I was at the site of the fabulous Oregon Star Party a few days before the event and met a long time organizer. When I asked, "How much is party and how much is star?, she answered, "Its all Party and all Star." Great answer. I live over four hours travel from any club but like to travel to the star party at Bruneau Dunes, Idaho, USA hosted by the Boise Astronomical Society. They are a friendly and welcoming group.
Starparties are awesome. I had my first one back in 2006 when I was just starting to get interested in the night sky. Even as a beginner I was welcomed with open arms. And here in the Netherlands it is easy to keep in touch in real life because we live with so many people in so little space. Of course that gives us some of the worst skies available as well... I have made many friends for life on starparties and I've been on several astronomy holidays with some as well. Even better, I've met my wife through astronomy.
Great to see you passing down your passion for astronomy to your son. I'm sure that his interest in sharing time with you was very special. He will remember these times for the rest of his life.
I do not usually comment on videos unless it's worth it. This one definitely is. You normally produce good quality stuff, this one is superb. The atmosphere, music, information, it all matches up. As you mention, enjoy the moment, we're all gonna die one day. You surely know how to enjoy. I hope our day is still far, far away....
Love your videos, Dylan and this one was a delight. We have astrocamps down here in Tassie, all great fun like this one. Bortle 1 skies, however, are only to be had in the dark Tasmanian midlands....Deliverance country.. Nice shots of the Milky Way, too.
The local party of favor in my neck of the woods (Oklahoma, US) is the Okie-Tex Star Party, held in September or October each year at Black Mesa in the far NW corner of the Oklahoma panhandle. It is hosted by the Oklahoma City Astronomy Club. Black Mesa is a premier darksky location in the U.S. and, if the weather cooperates, it's a wonderful opportunity for starlight-shadow quality viewing. Highly recommended if you ever get this direction. As always, thanks much for sharing. Steve
Lucky to have clear skies in winter, hope it was good. Looking forward to a weekend away in the WA wheat belt October with some of my Astro Friends. Great vid. Keep it up
Really enjoyed the walk round talking to people, especially liked the guy with the C14, he looked like a right laugh. Can we crowd fund to get him a ZWO so he can at least image the planets, he's clearly living on canned beans after forking out for a C14 Edge and TV Ethos :D
1:00 , What Do You Look At, His Shirt Or The Bintel Video? Dylan You Are One Of My Favorite Astrophotographers! Keep Up The Great Work! I Am A Beginner 11 Year Old Astrophotographer
I've yet to go to a star party 👍I have organised outreach days though.....really cool seeing everyone and the telescopes ☺ who share the same passion 🔭
Great video, agree this is one of your best, and of great interest to fellow amateur astronomers because we all love a good star party, even reliving them through a video like this.
Awesome video Dylan. We met Saturday morning when you shared you hot water bottle with me. I feel we bonded in that moment ;) you little guy was amazing. So we'll behaved and so polite. Hope to see you next year
Ahh that’s great buddy. Was good to meet you. I could see you were a bit colder than me at that moment :) Zen was very patient so I’ll pass on your praise!
Nice star-party Dylan! Me too, just got back from astro-party in Negev desert by local astronomy association . Actually, it was a bit overcrowded for me, about 200 people showed up. Couln't get this feel of almost intimacy with night sky we all know. Most of them were observers, so the sky near them looked like a laser show. Had to move from them a bit to start our astrophotography magic :) Ended up with good 6 hours of Bubble nebula data. ...Ehhm, Just figured out - it's another gem hidden from southern hemisphere. Totally amazing object!
I don't know; "These five words scream in my head - been to star party yet?" Always enjoy watching your vids with the Down Under perspective. Dark skies, Dylan.
Brilliant Dylan. I’m in a fb group called the uk cloud magnets. They’ve been on a couple of star party’s and even arranged their own star party. Not much luck though as it’s been cloudy 😂
One thing imagers always say is that they can see dimmer objects in finer detail than visual guys, no, you can *image* fainter things, we can *see* fainter things. That difference is why I’m in the visual camp.
Wow... The eyepiece at 6:24 is more expensive than a lot of 12 inch Dobsonians! Don't even want to hazard a guess at the price of the scope it's attached to...
If a time machine existed, I would go back and bring Galileo and Newton to our time so they can experience what our modern optics can achieve, and how helpful their research in their time was. Not to mention how they would look at our blinky gizmos and stuff. I wonder if Galileo would be team visual and Newton team camera, lol.
what amount of time do astro imagers at a star party typically spend on targets? , do they spend all their time on a target or two or just seek out as many as they can? coming from a bortle 6 i typically spend 14 hrs on a target ,how well would a bortle 1 scale down on my integration time?
So many variables! Each imager is different. But the total time isn’t as important as number of subs. Aim for 40 subs on each channel. The total time varies depending on length of each sub to get the signal you want for the target you’re on.
sounds like the visual bug bite to me .. that cough.... dr televue gonna love you ..lol ...... never been to a star party ... excellent video dylan looks like there was fun allround ... thanks man cheers james D
