Couldn’t be more right. Is better in almost every way to Super Mario World. Both brilliant games but Yoshi’s Island is the superior game in my eyes. Only thing better in World is the overworld design.

Nico: A long, long time ago, I did a video trying to beat Yoshi's Island without using a single egg, and I called this boss a Penguin dude. And you guys were pretty mad about that. Time for me to fix my past mistakes and introduce him correctly. Raphael the Raven is next!

Sluggy will always be one of my favorite bosses of all time. She was a ‘comfortable’ bodied boss fight I loved to screw around with, so she will always be in my heart.
And you don't get damage by her

To be fair, I love Sluggy's slime physics. When I saw her (it's actually a her? Ok...) fall off the ledge, I was super amazed and impressed, even on GBA!
What if I told you that there are official implications that Sluggy is actually not malicious and genuinely wants to be friends with the Yoshis and play?

Yoshis island has a lot of weird but original bosses

Yoshi is my favourite character.
Why?
Because he went out of his way to help Baby Mario get reunited with Luigi, instead of trying to ignore him.

My list:
#12: Burt: Way too easy to be fun.
#11: Roger the potted ghost: Easy, but his attacks can actually be a threat. Not to mention that if you aren't fast enough to get back to him you'll actually lose progress if there are still two shy guys.
#10: Big Slime: he can't even bloody hurt you. But the concept is really freaking sweet. And the blobs he spawns can be a challenge to avoid if you let them pile up.
#9: Bigger Boo: This guy behaves like a boo. If you look at him, he stops moving. But he also becomes invincible while hiding. So you have to look away before bouncing an egg of the wall in such a way that it hits the boss. With every hit he becomes even bigger. Untill he explodes from his size.
#8: Navel Piranha can be tough if you don't know what you're doing. You have to bounce an egg across the water so it hits the weak point. But this can be tough because he won't stay still for long. But you can just skip the fight entirely by standing on the very edge of the platform and throwing an egg at the beast before it transforms.
#7: Sluggy the unshaven: This punk has no weak points on his body. But you can just hit his heart. But you have to keep throwing eggs at it's body untill you hit it's heart. Which it then resets it body and becomes slightly faster. Keep this up for three hits to win. But you have to be quick, because while he can't hurt you on his own, he will attempt to slide you into the pitfall.
#6: Marching Milde: You ground pound this punk and he splits into smaller versions of himself. Keep doing this untill all of them are gone. Fun concept, but a little too easy.
#5: Big Koopus: He is a hefty one alright. You have to hit his head with four eggs before he falls over and leaves his belly wide open for attack. Jump on him to get eggs, because it takes more then six eggs to flip him over enough times to win.
#4: Tap tap: He can't be hurt. At all. You have to break the blocks under you untill there's a pit he can fall into. Then you knock him in.
#3: Froggy: Normaly, Kamek makes the boss bigger and stronger. Here, he instead makes you smaller. Attack froggy's insides as a small yosh to damage him. With every hit the stomach becomes bigger, so it's harder to hit the weak point. But based on Yoshi's eyes after the ordeal you didn't come out the way you came. *THAT'S DISGUSTING!!!*
#2: Ralphel the Raven: He can be really tough if you don't know what the hell you're doing. You fight him on the moon and have to hit the stakes on the floor to hit him. But, OUCH!!! RIGHT WHERE IT *HURTS*!!! Also, for the third phase, there are sparks to worry about.
#1: Baby Bowser: Is there really any other place for him? He jumps around like a madman in the first phase. Before becoming huge in the second. He shoots huge fire in the second phase and rocks fall destroying the ground. You have to hit him before he reaches you and well, bye bye. I can't in good conscience say he's anything short of truly epic.
Nice video! Never played this version, so it was nice to see all the bosses and whatnot, but I did play the yoshi's story for the n64, and thought your list for that game was pretty accurate.

yoshi's Island is such an awesome game but I was SO STUCK on some if these fights! I remember I was stuck for a bit- had no idea what to do against the potted ghost for a few tries. was stuck for the longest time on the hook bill fight, no idea how to hurt him. and the last baby bowser fight I simply could not beat it, it was too tough. I did finally beat him once and I was so happy.
Can you rank every boss in the rest of the yoshi games too?

The thing I liked more about this game is not the levels or the bosses, it is the frincking Music! It slaps so god damn much!

I figured out that thing about naval piranha as a kid. I noticed that you could get very close and wondered if it would work. It did.
Naval piranha was one of the most epic boss battles I can remember from my childhood ngl. I remember being shook and not knowing what the trick was at first then had that aha moment once I figured out to skip the egg on the water lol
I admit that most of the bosses are easy to defeat, just throw eggs at them or stomp them. Although, i still had fun doing it! My favorites are the Frog Prince who swallows Yoshi, Burt the Bashful, Baby Bowser and Bowser. They were so fun and exciting :D
I like the design of this game, it's like a painting. There's a lot of colors, cute enemis like the eggs and the masked guys, the music is catchy and pretty. Everything is beautiful!

Hookbill the Koopa is my favorite boss in Yoshi's Island. I feel that his fight has a good balance of difficulty. Other highlights are Baby Bowser, Raphael the Raven, and Bigger Boo.
For Naval Piranha, I usually elect to defeat her with the one-shot technique, but her fight is decent.

6:01 I think that the Naval Piranha Plant boss inspired the Lava Piranha boss in the original Paper Mario game
Im pretty sure that the bosses squashed, stretched, and rotated more for the purpose of showing off the technical capabilities of the Super Nintendo in conjunction with the Super FX 2 chip in fun and creative ways.

I was scared of this level because of the most difficult boss ever!!!
But you can cheese the fight by hitting the piranha plant before the cutscene starts

Number 5 on the list is basicly related to that one boss in sonic 3 where you just have to have the robot chase you untill it jumps into the quicksand.

Two of the bosses that I can easily draw from this game are Salvo (Seen In 1-8, 6-4 and 6-8) and Sluggy (Seen In 5-4). Sluggy’s my comfort boss due to how adorable she is next to Salvo and by the fact that she can’t hurt you when you touch her, unlike Salvo who spawns minions that hurt you in his debut level which is 1-8.

I feel that, aside from Rafael’s and Bowser’s castles, the forts and castles could be placed in any order, with their status as a fort or a castle depending on their placement. There is absolutely no difference in level length or boss complexity. I’d have Prince Froggy in a castle.

I just beat the game and I can agree, baby bowser was a great boss and I felt so rewarded by beating him.

Does anyone realize how brutal or inappropriate defeating most of the bosses in this game is
Burt: striped naked
Boo: swells up and pops
Roger: pushed off a platform and shattered
Frog: hitting the uvula multiple times
Naval: hitting a swelling wound multiple times/hitting it with a projectile the same size as it
Milde: squished so hard it tears apart
Koopa: stomach pounded multiple times and it’s shell broken leaving him naked then falling to his death
Sluggy: Literally his heart being destroyed
Raven: Hit in the nuts multiple times and sent flying into space
Tap-Tap: Is disintegrated by lava
the face the Yoshi makes after defeating the frog is the face i make when my fart smells worse that i thought it was.
Salvo the Slime is 1-8 castle and Sluggy the Unshaven is 5-4 fort, not 3-8 castle
Why doesn’t Kamek ever think to shrink Yoshi and englargen the opponent

Did anyone else get to piranha the navel and totally miss the signs about making the eggs ricochet? I remember trying over and over again to flutter just above the water and throw an egg and it eventually worked. Yoshis island and sonic 3 are the two games that have always been there for me

I do have 2 tiny points in Salvo's favor:
1 - In these later levels, he no longer drops bits of himself as he's defeated, meaning one should be precise with their shots using the eggs at hand, as Salvo keeps a key that, I think is either required for progression, or for 100% completion.
2 - Salvo is just a pretty sick name to have. Though not as good as Rafael, that raven had it good and classy.
I'm actually amazed Roger the Potted Ghost was above this dude by 3 ranks, how did that happen? I mean, gag aside, while the Tug a War fight is a neat concept... it really isn't all that engaging or impressive or epic or... y'know. At least Salvo had some good slime physics!
