- New Super Mario Bros. is now a game series, but it started as a Nintendo DS game that was meant to reboot the good old Super Mario Bros. games. This game has a couple of original bosses and a lot of Bowser Jr. fights! Let's rank those bosses from worst to best!

I like that this game had a nice variety of bosses, unlike the other NSMB games, which just used the Koopalings over and over.
Its sad when that is both true and DS has 9 Bowser Jr. Bosses

It would have been cool if they put a koopaling in the tower of each world and a unique castle boss like in this game in each castle.
Yeah, we don't really get any original bosses any more, apart from the sumo bro, and Mario Odyssey bosses.

Who else was they only one who got completely thrown of guard when they fought masked Bowser Jr for the first time. How was I meant to know he'd go into his shell when I try and jump on him?
My problem was that when I then fought Bowser the first time, I thougt I was supposed to jump on his head too.

Ground pounding does 2 damage to bosses in this game, meaning you can skip the final phase of every fight. Also you can repeatedly jump on bowser jr. after getting the first hit

To be honest new super mario bros. Came out before super mario galexy 2 so that one boss isn't a copy of another boss from a different version sequel of a game that came to be years after .

I'd have just lumped all Bowser Jr fights into one entry and then gone after the 9 bosses. And I will not have a bad word said about my boy Mummy Pokey! Trying to beat that fecker with Mini Mario or Luigi was an absolute arse ache.

All the NSMB bosses have never been returned (dis including bowser junior and the piranha plant) but they are all great bosses

4:39 It's kind of weird that world 5 tower is a lot easier than that of world 4 in all aspects. Not only is the Bowser Jr. battle harder in world 4, but also the tower stage itself with that rising lava. When I played it for the first time it made me think that the swampy waters in the forest were actually boiling because of that lava
Speaking of Bowser Jr. battles, those of worlds 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6 (first tower) are probably the only bosses you can beat without moving, by just throwing fireballs at them. Same with the first Bowser. Nine fireballs in just one or two seconds, and they're done for
9:28 That Mummipokey is a hell of a boss when you have to defeat it being tiny Mario. I don't know why they made world 4 so hard. Well, it's actually not that hard, but it's substantially tougher than worlds 3 and 5 (except for stage 3-3 maybe)
11:40 This battle gets a lot easier if you defeat giant Bowser first with fireballs, therefore preventing him to become mad. Then Bowser Jr. is a piece of cake

BTW, what of the Bowser Jr. battle in world 6's second tower? I'd probably place it one stage over its analogous battle in world 8's second tower, since it features lava, a tilting platform and lava bubbles at each side of it

If you ground pound on a boss it does more damage by first you have to ground pound then do a regular John totaling up to two
Correction nico, there are 10 bowser jr fights, there is a second tower in world 6 with the balance platform but with lava under it and fireballs

in the beta versions of new super mario bros, you were able to use a mega mushroom on castles. and what would happen if you would hit the mega goomba with the mega mushroom you mask ask? it instant kills the goomba

All the bosses in this game are pretty easy (like NSMB2), but they're fun nevertheless. Lakithunder and Monty Tank are cool designs too.
And might I add, ground-pounding any boss counts as 2 hits, and hitting one with enough fireballs instantly defeates it

Out of all of the New Super Mario Bros games the first one is, my favourite. It has original bosses. It's the most challenging game.
What's your favourite New Super Mario Bros game though?
Either New Super Mario Bros DS for the nostalgia and original bosses, or New Super Luigi U for it's unique style and difficult levels. But if I had to choose I'd say New Super Mario Bros DS is better.

You can actually beat Monty Tank in about a minute. See, what the game doesn’t tell you is that ground pounding (not in the Mini Form) on bosses counts as TWO hits.
So here’s what you do…
Immediately jump on the tank for the 1st hit. Wait out the Bullet Bill barrage, then the tank gains one level. You can still jump up there without Bullet Bills and this time, use a ground pound. This bypasses the third phase and defeats him.
Am I the only one who remembers all of these a lot more difficult?

On the subject of Bowser Jr. you can also kill him in two hits if at least one of them is a ground pound in the original “New Super Mario Bros.” game.
Monty Mole in the tank is my favorite. It took me forever to beat him
I always liked the bosses in the DS game better than fighting the Koopaligns in the other games.
IMO you should rate the Bosses also on where they are in Game. For example the First Bowser Jr Fight is better than the 2nd or 3rd one because eventhough He doesnt do much it is justyfied by being the First Boss in a Game from a Game series that didnt get a new Game for a very Long Time and the supsequent Bowser Jrs should be Harder cauz the Player allready learned the drill. Its very likely that new Super Mario Bros is the First Game of someone so the First Boss should be easy but the following ones Harder. For Sure the First Boss Fight isnt packed with cool effects and mechanics.
