Yes, I think it is just one of those generalizations where one brand name is used to refer to any of it's type. For example referring to tissues as a Kleenex, or even terms like thermos or velcro are actually specific brand names. Perhaps to some people every skid steer might look the same as a bobcat from the outside but when you operate them there is a huge difference!
@@JimMackHeavyEquipment I agree and I have educated a few of them but it is annoying people don't call Chevy cars Fords why should they insult my skid steer. I have worked on some Bobcats and find them very irritating to work on. I kept saying to myself why in the heck did they design it that way...stupid
Perhaps. It was Keller Manufacturing who invited/designed the skid steer loader and they produced 6 of the machines before Melroe bought the manufacturing rights and teamed up with the Keller brothers to continue to improve the design. It was never called a "Bobcat" before Melroe and I would say that it really caught on and became famous during the time that Melroe was manufacturing them. ironsolutions.com/the-first-skid-steer/
The Door? What about the bucket when lifting does not have self-levelling so you end up tipping a bucket full of dirt on top of yourself, that would suck (right
18:41 that looks stupidly Life threatening, the very dumb high perch so-called backhoe seat position, A operator can easily be thrown off & into the path of the still moving wheels and or the attachment & simply be killed by all 3 dumber bobcat designs. And I'll bet that happened all over the world people getting killed in that what should be known as death mode, Plus while Up there & driving around the machine can & will easily flop & crush you to death & I'll bet that has happened also. Mega wrongful death lawsuits I'll bet have been victorious against that stupidly dumb brand which I'll never purchase ever.
I agree, though most skid steers and compact equipment can be a bit of a nightmare to work on. And then again, I see them having to removing cabs on pickup trucks just to replace the turbo and I wonder if maybe heavy equipment mechanics don't have it so bad. They wouldn't pay us to do it if it was easy.
Very comprehensive and to the point !
I've got my forklift, backhoe and bulldozer tickets and now I want to get my skid steer!!!
See don’t need those rakes and to many people they don’t do much but the bobcat with a smooth bucket is the the one that gets it done !
Yes, they do get it done and I always appreciated the idea the the skid steer is always having fun! th-cam.com/video/Rpszgytqkck/w-d-xo.html
I always thought these skid steers were four wheel drive. It looks like front wheel drive.
@@Spunky-iq8jm -All 4 wheels are driven. I own a 763 and 773.

Ok got confused for a sec cuz his directions were in the perspective of someone on the outside looking at the operator.
The Bobcat was invented by the Keller Brothers

Bobcat 753.
Sorry couldn’t make it through the history lesson, then design lesson. Hopefully they actually got to training at some point.
I love my Gehl 4615 and people that call it a Bobcat piss me off

Nice info thanks. Unfortunately it is only one third of proper info. Thanks anyway

Melrow had nothing to do with inventing the Bobcat

Ehhh most of the time we hate any bobcat because of the door

No doubt a good machine, but when it needs repair its a nightmare.

Bobcat sucks. Having to use foot pedals to control the bucket is a dumb design!
I know right
Sucks to suck with your feet bruh!
