As a Black woman who enjoys the *Flagrant* podcast from time to time, I can admit that I’ve heard Andrew Schultz make jokes that were much worse than this. However, in this case, the issue lies in the context of the joke and the harmful stereotypes it perpetuates. The stereotype of Latina women being "feisty" often carries a sexual undertone, implying that their fiery temper somehow makes them better sexual partners. Similarly, Black women are often stereotyped as masculine and violent, and these types of jokes reinforce those negative perceptions. While we understand it's intended as humor, it doesn't make it any less hurtful, especially when Black women are frequently the punchline. Being labeled as "ratchet," "vulgar," or "unladylike" opens the door to greater vulnerability to violence and abuse, both in the workplace and in intimate relationships. The outrage isn’t just about one joke-it’s about a long history of behavior that has now been brought to the forefront. Their views on Black women and our lack of desirability to them inhibits their ability to defend us, even though we’ve been some of their biggest supporters, are troubling. This is why we’re upset.
Andrew made the joke. Fuhad and James didn't defend black women. Black men know racism exists and the fact that to be in business you have to deal with people who do like Andrew which is called micro aggressions. The do repeated boundary stomping in little ways until you realize after a year or two they are being totally racist and disrespectful under the guise that they are your friend. In business black men have learned to move on ignore it and play it off as a joke as a defense mechanism why because the business contact of the person like Andrew would gain other more important and financially valuable contacts who aren't racist. They did a business move on camera and the black women who were fans called them out on allowing the racist disrespect of black women. Yes Andrew may have given them supposed final cut of the podcast and they probably left the joke in but that doesn't change the fact that Andrew has been and made a racist joke about black women. In the power dynamic of wanting to network and grow James and Fuhad gave up absolute control of the video because of fear of being labeled as difficult to work with by a white/Jewish Comedian. Black men and women know that simple words like "Difficult to work with" in Hollywood are used to black ball black and white celebrities who stand up for moral principles. So yes the blame should be on Andrew because he has been very demeaning of black people in his comedy.
Opinions and a little constructive criticism is allowed. Forget what people say lads. Great work 👏
