Imagine thinking a kid is schizophrenic just cause he's weird and you YES YOU are the problem for over exaggerating it. A literal child created that piece of art and labeling him as mentally ill because he doesn't fit to your specific tastes is frankly disgusting.

Yeah, like, I didn’t understand what was so weird about it. It just sounded like a cool painting of a detailed circle. Him describing is as “god” gives it quite an interesting abstract concept that deviates from normal godly depictions. I don’t understand what was so wrong about him expressing his ideas and thoughts. Isn’t that what art *is*?

Not a certified art teacher, but I’ve taught art to elementary grades because the school couldn’t find an art teacher. One six year old drew an obscene, highly inappropriate picture. He refused to share his art with the class, and folded it into a tiny square, handing it to me on the way out the door. I opened it up. CPS was called immediately.

The teacher dragged me to the principal and called my parent, no one would tell me what was wrong, so I'm just sitting there crying. Drew himself full body, with color pencils and in a cartoonish, child-like style. He was surrounded by a bunch of different things, but the one that stood out the most was a syringe, as well as some phrases regarding disappointment, and being sorry.
It was later discovered that he was on hard drugs. He’s dead.

I'm an artist, but this story is actually about a short story i wrote in my sophomore year at high school. we just finished reading Romeo and Juliet. the assignment: change the ending. I actually asked if I could write what happened after the lovers passed away, and my teacher gave me the ok! saying that she never had someone wanting to do that. my final scene: it was maybe a year after Romeo and Juliet passed away, and it shows how some people cant handle grief. Lady Montague and Lady Capulet ended up becoming close after their children passed away, while Lord Capulet never moved passed it, by that time the feud was null in void, but Lord Capulet just couldn't handle his daughters death, and in his grief he unalived himself, apologizing for him failing as a father. my teacher actually was both worried (at that time i just lost my Aunt due to an illness) but also really liked it! it was well written, and was in her mind an honest depiction on grief. A+!

When I was in 7th grade english class, we had an assignment to create a piece of media about Phineas Gage, since we were in our brain science unit. We could either make a step by step instruction manual on how they would load the boring holes with gunpowder, an article about the incident, or, a comic strip about the accident. Me, being a person who’d spend every waking moment drawing, chose the last option. Halfway through drawing this extremely detailed comic panel, thought, “wait, could I get in trouble about this?” So, I nervously approached my english teacher, and sort of danced around the question of including blood in the comics. When she said we could include as much blood as we wanted for accuracy sake, I happily went back to my seat and covered my entire comic in gore. Got a 100 on that thing.
Edit: I found the old comic strip; I really want to redraw it now

I would suggest drawing a sac of flour or rice or just any generally rectangular object in different positions (simple or complex)
And one of the most important things is to not think of something as this really big complex design, and just break it down into wayyy simpler shapes; I.E. A skull is just a giant circle and two rectangles attached to the bottom of it, a hand is a rectangle with more rectangles on it, a flower is a circle with a rectangle attached and with ovals coming out of the circles, etc. (This is just the very basic description of what I wished I learned when I started out drawing and keeping up with it. It gets to a point where I'm constantly breaking down objects into simpler shapes lol.) Hope this helps and you have a wonderful time drawing :]

That seems like a super overreaction and lots of assumptions based on what sounds like a cool piece of art. And I say this is someone who often stood out as the kid whose art did look different because I wasn’t paying attention to what the other kids were doing, but rather expressing myself. I don’t think you have to have schizophrenia or some sort of mental issue to produce dark art or something that doesn’t conform to everyone else’s idea of pretty.

I don't know where the "tiny kid and big parent mean something about power" comes from.
Kids aren't exactly great at proportions. Legs/arms are often to short or to long and oddly bent because they don't know better.
Also, figures near a house are often as big as the house... Why assume something bad if parents to kids size proportions aren't really accurate. I mean, many people teach their kids "You are small, your brother is bigger, mom is also bigger and dad is the biggest"
Dad is the one reaching for things on large shelves, dad has to crouch to get into the play house, dad can lift the kids up.
And I'm also not sure about the color theory. Maybe dad has a really oddly colored Hawaiian shirt and shorts? Also kids sometimes just pick random colors... And not everyone likes the same colors.

i was a pretty well known art kid at my school and I spent a lot of time in class doodling because of my (at the time undiagnosed and unmedicated) adhd. most of the time i only got in trouble for not paying attention. i think i disturbed my mom once because while figuring out i was gay i drew a lot of naked girls on returned homework sheets that i thought nobody would ever see. the only time that i can remember where there was ever a snaffoo involving me and art and teachers getting involved though, it wasnt actually my art but another kid signing my name on their art and leaving the pieces of paper around the classroom. I was weirded out and wante dim to stop, he was only doing it as some kind of joke about how i was an artist and he wanted to be an artist i guess? but the teacher took it WAYYY too seriously and tried to get the principal involved because it was somehow bullying. weird stuff

1:31:22 Honestly, this teacher is very hypocritical. Not only does she not listen to opinions against her own, she assumes what opinions on her side mean and if she deems them bad, she lashes out at them. She didn't wait for an explanation from her student, she shouted at her student. Insulting a work that was actually in her favor if she interpreted it the way the student did. The teacher also assumed that the student knew all about what this group meant. From my experience in school, they DON'T talk about it. If this person just happened to come across the design she would have basically punished someone for something they didn't know to be wrong.

Story 25 with the high school kid who wrote the graphic story about the guy eating his own heart reminds me of a story I wrote when I was about 9. It involved a girl who starts to date a boy and her mom finds out and gets super upset because the guy’s father raped her and was a violent person. Later in the story, the mom, who is a TV anchor, is live on air, and this rapist dude breaks into the studio, stabs her in the chest and rips out her heart, live on TV. My parents got calls about this, probably wanting to know how I knew about rape. I don’t know what they told the teachers, but I know that I just knew about stuff from watching TV. I watched all the same shows as my parents and my much older brothers and sisters. The story was not a cry for help, more like a pilot for a TV show.

Just wanted to throw in my story. I sketched a dream I had one night on the back of a worksheet I did in math class. The dream was about this hole that would end the world if something was thrown into it. I drew a stick figure throwing something into the hole, and the world blowing up as a result. Taken to office next class, questioned, and eventually handcuffed by actual police with threats of being arrested. I had a panic attack because of this and was unable to explain myself, but I eventually calmed down and explained the dream and what the drawing was about, and at that point they realized that they had overreacted and apologized. I got off with a 1 day suspension, but it took away my motivation to draw and to this day I still have not gotten it back completely. It was not fun, but at least they accepted that they overreacted, and I am actually a good person, so we have that.

I grew up with, and still have, unrestricted internet access. Basically, I saw a lot of gory and gruesome stuff. Sonic.exe was my favourite to be honest, I would always see brutal scenes of Sonic's friends getting murdered. I have some scary drawings inside a greg heffley ripoff book, and it's kinda cool looking back. Even earlier than that, my father (not being the best dad in the world, as you will see) one time made me watch Rick and Morty, and that was before i adapted to gore. I saw Santa blow up, and began crying. To this day, I still draw horror-type stuff whetever it's traditional or virtual.

When I was in middle school my English class was given a book report assignment. We were told we could do the report on any book we wanted and since my favorite book was Stephen King's IT I did my report on that. Now the report itself wasn't the issue, the cover page drawing was. Unbeknownst to me my teacher had an extreme version of coulrophobia (fear of clowns) and I had drawn a hyper realistic, full color, drawing of Tim Curry as Pennywise. The reaction would have had you thinking I had become a serial killer myself. My mom laughed hysterically (she was the one that gave me the book when I was 11), the principal bit his lips and refused to say a word as the teacher screeched like a banshee and my mom wheezed and almost fell out of her seat as she tried to apologize to the teacher for belittling his fear. I was simply told that I could never give that teacher any drawings again.

I hate the demonization of people who draw dark things wtff,, like. I draw blood sometimes because people bleed 😱 sometimes a piece is more dramatic/dynamic if the character is in pain. it's interesting and imo normal for kids to explore safely through drawing. just because my characters hurt each other doesn't mean I'm going to hurt people. physical pencil/ink/brush to paper art can serve to tell a story just like a book does.

Just remembered this one. I went to one of those Rudolph Steiner/Waldorf education schools at one point. It was meant to be my transition from homeschool to a public high school (I voluntarily asked my parents to be homeschooled because of bullying in my previous years, and we were a more "out there" family who thought "let the kids teach themselves instead of being forced to conform to a strict curriculum" was an interesting pitch for what essentially ended up being a weird pseudo-cult of a costly, independent private school, but I digress. TL;DR of it was that Rudolph Steiner believed in a weird pseudo-christian, spiritualist racial ascension theory and that autism was the work of the devil, blah blah long story it's an interesting rabbit hole though). Anyway, because I was an edgy emo goth "outsider" from the city and a new student to all these kids who were raised on Steiner by rural farmers, hippies, antivaxxers and new age spiritualists who believed in rainbow babies and indigo children etc etc, I got bullied worse than I did at public schools because I wasn't all sunshine and sparkles and hand felted rainbow hats with himalayan salt lamps and kumbayah lovey-dovey shit. So one day I announced I was pagan and practicing wicca, and these snotty girls decided to draw all over my workbooks with crude stick figures of me as a witch and said some shit about how I was "offending the good spirits" with my "evil magic" and "had to take a vow of silence to apologize to the fairies" blah blah blah dumb bully kid shit. So what I did in the middle of class was I decided to use my acting skills and mess with them a bit. I put on my best demon-possessed blank expressionless face and walked slowly like the girl from The Ring up to the blackboard, picked up a piece of chalk, slooooowly and painstakingly drew a pentagram and then walked even more slowly back to my seat and sat down without making a single noise. Everyone's jaws dropped and I'm pretty sure I saw my teacher smirk in a barely contained approval of the middle finger I had just given them all. Was it petty? Yes. Was it funny? Also yes.

The next assignment was about a hedgehog's anatomy, and he came straight to me after giving us the task, asking me to just draw a normal hedgehog, not it's skeleton. One day, I was feeling really angsty and drew my at the time fursona, a basic flareon with glasses, in a pure black room with eyes that said something like “They’re all watching me.” Teacher takes it, looks at it, and just walks back to her desk. I didn’t really care so I just shrugged it off. A week or so later, I’m in the office with EVERY single one of my teachers, my mom, and the guidance counselor. I have a tale, but it is really just a case of an overreaction from a teacher.
Elementary school (2nd grade if correct), class party for St. Patrick’s day. One of the stations we were at was just for drawing/coloring in printed out coloring book pages. Most of the kids picked a page with a unicorn, and I wanted to color a unicorn too, but I didn’t want mine to get confused for someone else’s and wanted it to stand out from most of the aggressively pink and rainbow unicorns. So how else do I color my unicorn but by using darker, warmer colors (red, orange, yellow). The body was red, eyes were black, and the hair was colored as if I were coloring fire. I thought it looked so cool, and it certainly stood out as intended because it was the first thing that caught my teacher’s eye and caused her to call my mother, and told her that her child “had satan in her”. My mother loved the drawing when I went home.
