We are back! So happy to be kick starting our 2020 tour series with this incredible home, built on a budget by an inspiring young man in England. It's so exciting to now be able to share some homes from Europe with you all. Tom's story is really inspiring. Now at 20 years old, he has set himself up for a great start to life! The most impressive part about this is how he built a system on the house that collects rainwater, filters it, and uses it for the showers and stuffs. That's awesome

I’m so happy for the tiny home movement, because it’s enabled a lot of people to own their own home, instead of paying out of control rent, at least in the US! And the regular size homes are too expensive to purchase also.

Synthesizer Patel It’s land that he owns though, inherited from his grandparents. He also set up the plumbing and electricity himself, it’s very impressive. At least he’s financially independent. He gets to live life on the easy road. I doubt he’d live in this forever. He’ll most likely expand it and make it larger when it comes to having a family and such.
Why is everyone putting the man down. He was 17 when he started this. Bet the majority of you couldn't build or finish shit even with instructions and help.
Jealousy! They just wish they had done the same thing at that age and they are probably drowning in house debt! When some people are down, they can't handle to see another succeeding and instead of learning, they choose to bash!

It's more that it's selling a myth, 'a lifestyle choice for JUST 6k' but pays no mind to the fact that you need to own land to build it first, it's like all these guys putting out vids on erecting shelters in woodland, like "c'mon you lazy lot get out and do this yourself" but it's always on daddys sprawling acres, try felling trees yourself and enjoy the stars through your cell window
Anyone can build a tiny house - it's really not that complicated. But then most people have nowhere to put it... which is the real big obstacle, and one that's been conveniently side-stepped. Can you cut wood, screw it together, connect pipes, connect wires? Of course, anyone can. Can you easily get some land where a mobile home is permitted? Probably not. Can you afford to take time off work, and find a convenient place to build it? Probably not. It might look overly negative when you're trying really, really hard to be "nice", but it seems to me that most of the commenters here are living in the real world where things don't fall into your lap.
This is incredible, I can't believe anyone would give this a thumbs down. This young man has got a lot of skill and talent. Recycling materials and producing something to be proud of. I'm so impressed.
Tom is intelligent and energetic. He was light years ahead of me when I was 17. Building or even owning my own home at that age just wasnt on my mind. I really have to congratulate him on making himself such a fine looking tiny house. It's nice, I like it. Thanks Bryce for another great video. I wish you and Rasa the best. Take care my friend. ;)

Not just for those who build tiny. This saying goes in all directions! A lot of people also buy houses / apartments too big. They realize that later when they can't handle doing all the chores.
This channel has saved my life. Awhile back I was evicted from my apartment and I was drowning in bills. I was working but wasn’t making enough to pay rent. I had two weeks and I used those two weeks to study how to use my car as a living space. I had a Chevy G series van and I used this channel as a lot of reference for the most basic things I would need. then as I started to save money I would upgrade the interior and by things to really make it feel like home. Almost a year later and now I have a completely furnished living spaces all thanks to you. Thank you Living Big
Beyond amazing! My adult children could never have pulled this off. For those who comment about the number of tiny houses that are parked on family land, I would remind you of the many young adults that still live with their parents. And the long tradition of building a house on your family farm. This is no worse, probably better. There is nothing wrong with relying on family and friends to get through life!
The fact the most of these "tiny house" people inherite land doesn't make their achievement less praise worthy BUT, what people are trying to say is that even this whole "fuck the system/of grid" concept is still a dream for most lower income folks. Land is still way too expensive to get, especially when you have to spend more and more on rental. I'm all for simple living, investing etc but one cannot DIY or dumpster dive a piece of land.
30 years ago I would totally join you in mocking youngster that still live with their parents. But things changed and now most people have no option but to do it. My generation is economicaly doomed and things are getting worse, so is not anymore a lack of character but a total lack of perspective. I truly pity every non wealthy children I see.
I'm amazed how beautiful Tom's house is! 6000 GBP is impossibly cheap for a nearly full-fledged home like his. I'm 22 and already feeling a bit uncomfortable about the depth of planning such a project might require, but this talented person started doing it from the age of 17. The interior is so cozy and inviting. I really am blown away with the result. Kudos to Tom!

Many youths of his age will be busy boozing and partying and may be into drugs. This young man Tom is a responsible and far sighted guy. Who ever marries him in the future is lucky ! Responsible !
I love this! I am a 14 year old myself, and I plan on saving my own money to build a rustic tiny house so I can live off grid in the woods of Alaska! That would be a dream come true for me, a life of solitary and peace is the lifestyle for me! Well done!

Hahaha. Good one. You pretty much will have a lonely tour of their mansions as the owners would be busy with their 70+ hour work weeks. Most of the episodes would end with you interviewing the owners in a hospital.
This tiny home really does remind me of the early days of the tiny house movement. The level of craftsmanship and care that went into building this home is beautiful to see. Absolutely love!!! Also, I chuckled when he called his sleeping loft the TARDIS. 😂

Close but WRONG, The government should reopen state and federal lands for use with THE HOMESTEAD ACT, and for veterans maybe kick in a bit for building materials instead of making US (yes, I have almost 30 years in) get huge loans from banks.... In 2009 I wrote emails to over a dozen members of congress suggesting the reopening of the homestead act, at least for retirees and disabled veterans, and pointing out that retirees from the French foreign legion (only takes 15 years with the legion before you can retire) all get a tiny chalet with enough land to grow their own food on... unless they instead request to retire to the vineyards and winery that the legion own (it was donated)... many of the legionaries with bad PTSD stay at the winery as they have their comrades there at all times to help them with their issues.... I wish the American Army had a winery for me to retire to..... back to the emails, NONE of the members of congress liked the idea,it probably has something to do with that guaranteed loan for a big house but only if I stay in the workforce and get some damned job u til the loan is paid off (thirty more fucking years).... cause banks pay congresstards, why else would congress have bailed out the banks but not forced the banks to apply that money towards mortgages? Remember, when the congress bailed out the banks with taxpayer money, they encouraged the banks to evict the taxpayers thathad paid the taxes used to bail out those banks..... Congress was criminal in that!
My comments are often critical of some homes but this, this is a result I can really appreciate. This is exactly what I really think of when I imagine a tiny home. I know it's a "to each their own" situation but this young man has created an exceptional result and with the use of good ol' recycled pallets, slabs, fighting a wasp nest, and the good fortune to have the grandparents land. The aluminium joinery and larch wood look fabulous. Good work Tom, you've got a bright future ahead of you.

It seems he failed to mention cost of maintenance, electric, plumbing, etc. monthly, as well as other costs such as food/insurance, etc. Most likely for a reason, because it’s not cheap. He lives in a house, badass. Does he pay mortgage on the property? Nope, that’s his grandparents. Does he have his own insurance? Still on their property, so he probably has them pay it. There’s a WHOLE lot you’re missing, he can build a house, that’s nice. But he isn’t self-sustainable in the slightest yet. Good day.

@Ezmyrelda Andrade Success is having the motivation at seventeen years old to build an entire tiny house, find environmentally sustainable materials from many different sources, set up plumbing, electricity, and roofing, and work hard for three years to make a dream a reality. Yes, he got a small plot of land, but with the amount of money he has saved through his ingenious design, he will surely be able to purchase his own plot soon.

I'm really happy watching this. I can tell this guy built this all himself, he reused things that would have been thrown away, and he accomplished a goal I would love to accomplish. Bravo, sir! People haven't needed money for thousands of years, look at the Native Americans. This doesn't need any sort of money, so that would be inexpensive. You should look up "off the charts" Or something similar to it on TH-cam. Yes, you'll have to buy land, or ask friends if you can live on their property, but I'm sure you could scrape together funds for a small area if land. Look at this man. He did what he could with the "game". I don't know your circumstances, but there are literally men on TH-cam who carve swimming pools using only sticks. STICKS! Maybe they don't have it so great, maybe they do, but either way, they don't need to have it off good in this game we call life, they make do with what they would have had thousands of years ago. Maybe you can do the same. I know that people live in cars that are in parking lots all the time. I know people talk about their lives in front of a camera and make money in ad cents. I know people live in solitary, where nobody can conceivably find them, and they manage to survive. I know people work from home, and make money trading their time for a salary, and as they work they apply themselves around the house, fixing it up, or doing small, random jobs, during the day to earn extra cash and work at night. I know people pick up seasonal jobs like lawn mowing, snow shoveling, and leaf raking. I know people step up and help others in need. I know it's harder for some people to stand, but nothing is impossible. In the end of the day, you have to look in the mirror. You have to see how you were born, what your social status is, the color of your skin, your income. You have to see yourself, and what you're doing in your current situation. You have to see your future, and who you want to see next time you look in the mirror. You have to see yourself and your circumstance. You have to realize that blaming society won't help. You have to realize life truly isn't fair, but it doesn't have to be. Most importantly, you have to realize that you're the only one who can change who you see in that damn mirror, and even perfect circumstance doesn't make a perfect human, but a perfect human can make perfect circumstance. I recommend you open your eyes and look for odd jobs, better wages, opportunities in both land and other forms of life, and positivity. I think people who are born poor are more blessed than people who are born rich. The reason: if you make it, YOU made it. Your mom and dad didn't give it to you, your grandparents didn't give it to you, nobody did. So don't hate the game. Love the game. Because the game might make you a better person than any rich man/woman could ever be. Maybe you weren't born lucky, but it's what's in the mirror that counts. I truly believe you can change you, even if it's through the help of others. I have never heard of a good friend who wouldn't want to help you in any way they could. Maybe you can move in with someone. Maybe they can give you s financial boost you need. Maybe they can give you their backyard. Maybe they can give you their garbage to make a beautiful house out of. I'm not by any means rich. I make things work. Yurts are extremely low cost, and effective. Solar panels are an investment, but it's a one-time payment. There are also so many tools to help reduce the gap between the rich and the poor. Soup kitchens. Go fund me. There (I think, I don't know where on this earth you live) are probably programs to redisperse money. Maybe there are food stamps. If you look around, I think you'll find more help than you thought could ever be there for you. I hope you can see at least some truth in this comment, and hopefully this might help your living conditions a little. ❤
@senior savage While for the most part (the majority of it I could understand), I would have to agree with you. What I don't agree with is your statement that nothing is impossible. There are several things that are impossible. A man becoming pregnant naturally ... being born a female & having the sex change to a man without getting the inside & groin area changed over doesn't count ... walking on legs that are either gone, severely damaged, asleep, or paralized from the waist down ... those are just to name a few "impossible" things. As I happen to have personal experience with the legs issue, I am very annoyed when others who don't think before they speak or, in my husband's case, cannot understand why I can't use my legs all of the time, as he has no ability to empathize. No amount of talking or even him seeing the results of me trying to get even a couple of steps with a leg or legs that have "gone to sleep" is practically impossible. If you can't feel your leg or legs, your brain can't register that you still have the appendages to walk, so, instead you have to try any way possible to get your brain to recognize that you do have legs by waking your useless low limbs up ... which most people can attest to being quite painful to go through. Strangers can see & understand the problems that I go through but my own husband can't. That is another "impossible" thing to add to the "impossible" list.
Bryce, you made Tom feel so good for this achievement. It is your mark, your icon, your modus operandi, to make the owners of these tiny homes feel extremely good about their decision to go tiny, the build and decor of each and every tiny home. I watch you often and you do it with every interview. Good on you. You make me want to be like you. People need a pat on the back, especially when they’ve completed a tough project like building a home. Now, I need a straight, honest, hard answer from you. How do you separate the big blow up of compliments from, the mediocre uninspired craftsmanship and design, to the truly inspired, excellent, art and craftsmanship that is beyond professional? Yes! I’m 42 and just figuring this out. College is great but so are trades. If he invests well and works hard he will be able to retire at 55 or younger and/or work part time after that. Lucky kid.
Debt is great for leverage. If you take some debt to finish uni to get a high paying job, then there's no problem paying it back. Or to buy an apartment that you can afford to pay the monthly payments. Problem is dumb people not knowing simple mathematics and being reckless.

I admire this guy a lot. Seventeen and already thought to build his own house with his own hands. Surely people will say that he already got the land but the house was made by his own skills and that is rare nowadays. My brother is twice his age and barely can do anything on his own and still live with our parents. Oh well... This is what I want to do: building my own house no matter how tiny it is so I can be debt-free for the rest of my life. Good job, young man! 👍

I'm in the UK, and love the tiny house movement, I couldn't work out why it wasn't that popular here, the only ones id seen unfortunately looked like a child tried to build a mini shed lol but thankfully it's coming along nicely now. 💚 he's done a fab job.
He might have messed up by making this public video, because without planning permission you can't have a house on land although it's on wheels, as the hight comes into account. If it's a caravan depending on where you are it ok but the structure is much taller than a caravan. British law planning laws are nuts and only the rich get to do cool stuff. All that said: someone has to lead the way, and for someone this young to be achieving something so brilliant is just amazing. Hats off to the lad.

One of the most enjoyable Tiny House presentations so far for me. I love the simplicity, the no nonsense quality about it and the fact this young fella' had the gumption, determination, vision to build it for himself, and only 6000 pounds! I'm an Aussie but my family comes from Bristol and the area is so beautiful so it's such a nice place to live in your own creation-debt free! Bravo!
Kudos to Tom on turning his innate skills into a handsome, functional tiny home. Kudos to the older generations, like his grandparents, who bought land that enable people like Tom to "park" their homes.

It's more that it's selling a myth, 'a lifestyle choice for JUST 6k' but pays no mind to the fact that you need to own land to build it first, it's like all these guys putting out vids on erecting shelters in woodland, like "c'mon you lazy lot get out and do this yourself" but it's always on daddys sprawling acres, try felling trees yourself and enjoy the stars through your cell window
Anyone can build a tiny house - it's really not that complicated. But then most people have nowhere to put it... which is the real big obstacle, and one that's been conveniently side-stepped. Can you cut wood, screw it together, connect pipes, connect wires? Of course, anyone can. Can you easily get some land where a mobile home is permitted? Probably not. Can you afford to take time off work, and find a convenient place to build it? Probably not. It might look overly negative when you're trying really, really hard to be "nice", but it seems to me that most of the commenters here are living in the real world where things don't fall into your lap.

Tom is intelligent and energetic. He was light years ahead of me when I was 17. Building or even owning my own home at that age just wasnt on my mind. This channel has saved my life. Awhile back I was evicted from my apartment and I was drowning in bills. I was working but wasn’t making enough to pay rent. I had two weeks and I used those two weeks to study how to use my car as a living space. I had a Chevy G series van and I used this channel as a lot of reference for the most basic things I would need. then as I started to save money I would upgrade the interior and by things to really make it feel like home. Almost a year later and now I have a completely furnished living spaces all thanks to you. Thank you Living Big

For those who comment about the number of tiny houses that are parked on family land, I would remind you of the many young adults that still live with their parents. And the long tradition of building a house on your family farm. This is no worse, probably better. There is nothing wrong with relying on family and friends to get through life!

The fact the most of these "tiny house" people inherite land doesn't make their achievement less praise worthy BUT, what people are trying to say is that even this whole "fuck the system/of grid" concept is still a dream for most lower income folks.
Land is still way too expensive to get, especially when you have to spend more and more on rental. I'm all for simple living, investing etc but one cannot DIY or dumpster dive a piece of land.

I'm amazed how beautiful Tom's house is! 6000 GBP is impossibly cheap for a nearly full-fledged home like his. I'm 22 and already feeling a bit uncomfortable about the depth of planning such a project might require, but this talented person started doing it from the age of 17. The interior is so cozy and inviting. I really am blown away with the result. Kudos to Tom!

Close but WRONG, The government should reopen state and federal lands for use with THE HOMESTEAD ACT, and for veterans maybe kick in a bit for building materials instead of making US (yes, I have almost 30 years in) get huge loans from banks....
In 2009 I wrote emails to over a dozen members of congress suggesting the reopening of the homestead act, at least for retirees and disabled veterans, and pointing out that retirees from the French foreign legion (only takes 15 years with the legion before you can retire) all get a tiny chalet with enough land to grow their own food on... unless they instead request to retire to the vineyards and winery that the legion own (it was donated)... many of the legionaries with bad PTSD stay at the winery as they have their comrades there at all times to help them with their issues.... I wish the American Army had a winery for me to retire to..... back to the emails, NONE of the members of congress liked the idea,it probably has something to do with that guaranteed loan for a big house but only if I stay in the workforce and get some damned job u til the loan is paid off (thirty more fucking years).... cause banks pay congresstards, why else would congress have bailed out the banks but not forced the banks to apply that money towards mortgages? Remember, when the congress bailed out the banks with taxpayer money, they encouraged the banks to evict the taxpayers thathad paid the taxes used to bail out those banks..... Congress was criminal in that!

My comments are often critical of some homes but this, this is a result I can really appreciate. This is exactly what I really think of when I imagine a tiny home. I know it's a "to each their own" situation but this young man has created an exceptional result and with the use of good ol' recycled pallets, slabs, fighting a wasp nest, and the good fortune to have the grandparents land. The aluminium joinery and larch wood look fabulous. Good work Tom, you've got a bright future ahead of you.

People haven't needed money for thousands of years, look at the Native Americans. This doesn't need any sort of money, so that would be inexpensive. Yes, you'll have to buy land, or ask friends if you can live on their property, but I'm sure you could scrape together funds for a small area if land. Look at this man. He did what he could with the "game". I don't know your circumstances, but there are literally men on TH-cam who carve swimming pools using only sticks. STICKS! Maybe they don't have it so great, maybe they do, but either way, they don't need to have it off good in this game we call life, they make do with what they would have had thousands of years ago. Maybe you can do the same. I know that people live in cars that are in parking lots all the time. I know people talk about their lives in front of a camera and make money in ad cents. I know people live in solitary, where nobody can conceivably find them, and they manage to survive. I know people work from home, and make money trading their time for a salary, and as they work they apply themselves around the house, fixing it up, or doing small, random jobs, during the day to earn extra cash and work at night. I know people pick up seasonal jobs like lawn mowing, snow shoveling, and leaf raking. I know people step up and help others in need. I know it's harder for some people to stand, but nothing is impossible. In the end of the day, you have to look in the mirror. You have to see how you were born, what your social status is, the color of your skin, your income. You have to see yourself, and what you're doing in your current situation. You have to see your future, and who you want to see next time you look in the mirror. You have to see yourself and your circumstance. You have to realize that blaming society won't help. You have to realize life truly isn't fair, but it doesn't have to be. Most importantly, you have to realize that you're the only one who can change who you see in that damn mirror, and even perfect circumstance doesn't make a perfect human, but a perfect human can make perfect circumstance. I recommend you open your eyes and look for odd jobs, better wages, opportunities in both land and other forms of life, and positivity. I think people who are born poor are more blessed than people who are born rich. The reason: if you make it, YOU made it. Your mom and dad didn't give it to you, your grandparents didn't give it to you, nobody did. So don't hate the game. Love the game. Because the game might make you a better person than any rich man/woman could ever be. Maybe you weren't born lucky, but it's what's in the mirror that counts. I truly believe you can change you, even if it's through the help of others. I have never heard of a good friend who wouldn't want to help you in any way they could. Maybe you can move in with someone. Maybe they can give you s financial boost you need. Maybe they can give you their backyard. Maybe they can give you their garbage to make a beautiful house out of. I'm not by any means rich. I make things work. Yurts are extremely low cost, and effective. Solar panels are an investment, but it's a one-time payment. There are also so many tools to help reduce the gap between the rich and the poor. Soup kitchens. Go fund me. There (I think, I don't know where on this earth you live) are probably programs to redisperse money. Maybe there are food stamps. If you look around, I think you'll find more help than you thought could ever be there for you. I hope you can see at least some truth in this comment, and hopefully this might help your living conditions a little. ❤
@senior savage While for the most part (the majority of it I could understand), I would have to agree with you. What I don't agree with is your statement that nothing is impossible. There are several things that are impossible. A man becoming pregnant naturally ... being born a female & having the sex change to a man without getting the inside & groin area changed over doesn't count ... walking on legs that are either gone, severely damaged, asleep, or paralized from the waist down ... those are just to name a few "impossible" things. As I happen to have personal experience with the legs issue, I am very annoyed when others who don't think before they speak or, in my husband's case, cannot understand why I can't use my legs all of the time, as he has no ability to empathize. No amount of talking or even him seeing the results of me trying to get even a couple of steps with a leg or legs that have "gone to sleep" is practically impossible. If you can't feel your leg or legs, your brain can't register that you still have the appendages to walk, so, instead you have to try any way possible to get your brain to recognize that you do have legs by waking your useless low limbs up ... which most people can attest to being quite painful to go through. Bryce, you made Tom feel so good for this achievement. It is your mark, your icon, your modus operandi, to make the owners of these tiny homes feel extremely good about their decision to go tiny, the build and decor of each and every tiny home. I watch you often and you do it with every interview. Good on you. You make me want to be like you. People need a pat on the back, especially when they’ve completed a tough project like building a home. Now, I need a straight, honest, hard answer from you. How do you separate the big blow up of compliments from, the mediocre uninspired craftsmanship and design, to the truly inspired, excellent, art and craftsmanship that is beyond professional? Maybe you don’t. All of them deserve the pat on the back. I enjoy your series so much. I enjoy the look at the tiny houses. A big part of my pleasure is how well you treat the owners. Well done, man! Yes! I’m 42 and just figuring this out. College is great but so are trades. If he invests well and works hard he will be able to retire at 55 or younger and/or work part time after that. Lucky kid.
Debt is great for leverage. If you take some debt to finish uni to get a high paying job, then there's no problem paying it back. Or to buy an apartment that you can afford to pay the monthly payments. Problem is dumb people not knowing simple mathematics and being reckless.
This is so adorable! The outside is so pretty and cottagy, but the inside is a mix between a dorm and leftovers from Mum. It makes my heart happy. 'You never know what you are going to need...' Awwwww! Good on you, Tom!

I admire this guy a lot. Seventeen and already thought to build his own house with his own hands. Surely people will say that he already got the land but the house was made by his own skills and that is rare nowadays. My brother is twice his age and barely can do anything on his own and still live with our parents. Oh well...
This is what I want to do: building my own house no matter how tiny it is so I can be debt-free for the rest of my life. Good job, young man! 👍

I'm in the UK, and love the tiny house movement, I couldn't work out why it wasn't that popular here, the only ones id seen unfortunately looked like a child tried to build a mini shed lol but thankfully it's coming along nicely now. 💚 he's done a fab job.

@@livingbig I hope it does grow, but UK planning laws are so rigid. Even if you own land it's hard to get planning permission on such houses.
He might have messed up by making this public video, because without planning permission you can't have a house on land although it's on wheels, as the hight comes into account. If it's a caravan depending on where you are it ok but the structure is much taller than a caravan. British law planning laws are nuts and only the rich get to do cool stuff. All that said: someone has to lead the way, and for someone this young to be achieving something so brilliant is just amazing. Hats off to the lad.

One of the most enjoyable Tiny House presentations so far for me. I love the simplicity, the no nonsense quality about it and the fact this young fella' had the gumption, determination, vision to build it for himself, and only 6000 pounds! I'm an Aussie but my family comes from Bristol and the area is so beautiful so it's such a nice place to live in your own creation-debt free! Bravo!

@@januzzell8631 yes, there are lots of tucked away shacks and hobbit houses here in West Wales. I live in the thick of it. Cornwall and Devon is another hotspot.
