    It boils down to what you want to do. Let's be honest if it's for hobbyist and personal use the Air 2S is more than enough. If your doing paid work then the Mavic 3 is worth it. It would be nice to have the Mavic 3, but I'd rather keep the Air 2S, use the $3K and go to Hawaii for a holiday and fly the Air 2S to my heart's content.

      I personally did couple of projects with Air2S and believe that with good editing/grading skills you can achieve outstanding results with that little drone. If I was into much bigger projects I would go into Inspire category as Mavic 3 Cine is touching this level of drones.

      it's mostly a hobby for me, but, along the way I have sold some clips for commercial use, at least for the customers I worked with they cared more about content than image quality, grading/editing in post also kind of reduce the importance of image quality, after all, I think video is more about emotion than pixel peeping

    For $200 more than the Mavic 3 FMB I bought the Air 2s FMB and a new MacBook Pro 14". I shoot in DLOG (although using HLG more often now as I get better at grading), scrub and grade the video in Final Cut Pro. If you're a "professional" then you should be at the Inspire 2 level. I don't really see a market for the Mavic 3....it's simply not worth it. The Air 2s is good for up to IMO a prosumer. Anything beyond that go with the Inspire 2. Keep up the good videos.

    Thanks Stewart and Alina for this great review. I love how you always emphasize "its not what you have, but how you use it that counts." I also appreciate the real world comments and point out when you have to pixel peep to really see the difference. For me, size is a real issue. I can fit my A2S in my normal camera bag along with my mirrorless camera whereas I could not when I had the Mavic 2 Pro. It needed its own bag. And as they say, the best camera is the one you have with you...

    The price is the killer for me. Most people viewing the footage shot by hobbyists & content creators are not going to notice any difference in quality. Especially if they watching something on a mobile device posted to a social network (most compress content pretty hard). So it’s going to be really hard to justify the 2x markup for the baseline Mavic 3.

    • @kernzilla
      @kernzilla 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      gosh I see it exactly opposite, $2200 for this ship a great value IMO. and what is "2x the price"? the normal M3 is like $600 more than the Mavic 2 Pro (that was released like 3-4 years ago!). agree there are aspects that will be indistinguishable, but can't deny the tele lens, dynamic range, frame rate, etc are HUGE advantages for viewing on mobile/social that will be extremely noticable -- and were not possible in this price range previously. Let alone the real-world quality that pros rely on to make a living. Cant beleive the amout of skeptisim revolving around the M3. Guessing its a reaction from these amateurs realizing they'll need to up their game to be a legit pilot ... shame really, for this should be motivating & inspiring rather than all these "influencers" bashing it because its more expensive than their Mini 2 ... i give it 3-6 months before all the nay-sayers end up buying it and eating their words ...

    • @tecwzrd
      @tecwzrd 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @@kernzilla comparing the Mavic 3 to the Air 2S it is almost 3x more for the fly more combos. ($1,200 vs $2,999) for the DJI Mini 2 the price difference is 5x more for the fly more combo. Unless flying at night or when dynamic range is highly needed (which can partially be overcome with ND filters) there isn't a huge "need" for the Mavic 3 for most hobiest. If you're a professional making money off drone footage then I can understand, otherwise it will be a pass for most people. Even then the Air 2S more than meets the needs of even professional pilots.

    • @cwbrn
      @cwbrn 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@kernzilla I'm glad you think the opposite. Opposing opinions are a good thing 👍 I'd just like to point out that we're comparing the Mavic 3 to the Air 2S, not the Mavic 2 Pro. The Air 2S superseded the Mavic 2 Pro as the flagship consumer drone, so that makes for a fairer comparison. So yeah, my "2x markup for the baseline Mavic 3" remark is referring the price differential of the Air 2S compared to the Mavic 3. And I was being generous to DJI by rounding down to 2x. I have no doubt the Mavic 3 is a good drone, but in the consumer market, economics plays a fundamental part. In fairness to DJI, the Air 2S is 2x the price of a Mini 2, so there is a precedent 🤷‍♂️
      As for the derogatory remarks about amateurs and influencers: having the latest drone doesn't make anyone better than anyone else. There are terrible professional drone cinematographers as well as exceptional amateurs out there. As Stewart would say, it's not the drone that makes you a good cinematographer 😉

      @mrreddog 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@kernzilla I disagree. Im a "legit pilot"' but not a youtuber or filmmaker. For the 1% that will spend hours upon hours editing the higher data count, it will be an amazing flying camera. But lets face it, most use these for youtube & social media, they wont put the much longer & higher data count to use. M2P & Air2s will do just as good for the 99% of users. You wont see any difference on youtube & most wouldn't be able to tell the difference on a 5k or 8k tv. For the average drone pilot, they wont use the higher rates due to more work/time/data editing their shoots. Its a very nice, truly pro system, but I bet most will keep what they have. Not knocking the M3, its just unnecessary to 99% of pilots, in my opinion....

    • @kernzilla
      @kernzilla 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@cwbrn appreciate the input here, and agree opinions SHOULD differ. I think your comment here is really well said in ways. feel like comparing M3 to Air2S is like comparing a Corolla to a 4Runner though. Not really a fair comparison. The “2x markup” will be easily justified by the right people, and won’t think twice about it. DJI over-delivered on the Air2S in my opinion, and is SUCH a great value for $1300. Looking back, it makes sense they would pack the Air2S with features no one expected at the price-point, so that the M3 would fill the gaps better with the seemingly-discontinued Phantom 4 Pro.
      Not sure my earlier comment was derogitory, it stands true that a LOT of folks are upset about this based on the price criteria alone. To them, I say go get an Air2S and some ND filters and 99% of your goals will be achieved for 1/2 the cost. A ship like this should open pilot’s eyes as to what is now possible and achievable, and create a level of excitement for content creation. Rather, seeing a lot of the opposite. Too much hyperbole surrounding the M3 at the moment, and folks shouldn’t get lost in this. Lots of folks say the equipment doesn’t matter, and in a way this is true. But you ask any true professional or capable creator on the matter, and they will say “the gear doesn’t matter, until it does”. This is why you don’t see 28-400mm zooms at the Super Bowl, or Mavics on a Michael Bay filmset.
      Big picture, I’d rather see people take all this negative effort about griping about the price, and turn that towards contemplating how this ship would impact/inspire their work and carry the true excitement that flying drones creates. The justification will happen, if someone finds the value in the ship and wants to work it into their workflow to improve their content creation.

    I have to say, I am not a photographer, but a content creator and so I've run into camera work by accident. You pack a ton of information in your videos, and I appreciate you showing what happens 'in post' - editing, color grading, etc. As a novice, the AS2 gets me closer to what I need than the M3. I don't have the skills, knowledge, or 'the eye' to make the M3 work like I would want it to and how pros can. It seems the AS2 is for us 'hobbyists' and M3 for the Pros!
    This video has helped me see that 'most expensive' isn't best for me, since I would be so overwhelmed/confused by the M3 and I would never be able to get results I wanted or expected. It would be terrible to spend that kind of money only to find out that it was out of my league. I'm that kind that needs the camera to do most of the work, and I just have to go with 'good enough' most of the time. So, I really appreciate the fact that you take the time to educate folks like me!

    The problem with this category of drone is that if a cinematographer or studio has the budget for this they will much more likely go for the Inspire or fly an Arri/Red. It seems like a niche product to me. You're a professional that needs the flexibility of ProRes but you also need it to be small and light, and only need one focal length...
    For me personally as a realestate cinematographer, once I need to upgrade to this level of equipment I'm 100% going for the Inspire 2 because it's in a similar price bracket as the Mavic cine but has much more flexibility with an interchangeable lens mount.

      I live in Ireland. An Inspire 2 drone (without camera) is euro 3,500. As expensive as the Cine version is, it's about 1/3 of what you'd spend on an Inspire 2 ready to film. Pro Res licence is about the same (US 1,000 approx).

    I don't think the Mavic 3 looks nearly three times better (as the cost would reflect) and sometimes worse to me but the extra flight time and secondary dedicated zoom camera will make this a very popular "do everything" drone to add to a professional's repertoire. As always though, DJI sends it out with half baked firmware that immediately needs obvious features implemented.

    • @kernzilla
      @kernzilla 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      disagree with you on the price/quality analysis, M43 is going to present nearly inspire-level quality & dynamic range, and creators and going to fall in love with the control they have over the media.
      but i'm completey with you on the half-baked firmware/features issue here. Something like this would indicate they released it too early, and are having a hard time with the hardware cooperating with the software.
      Would love for other folks to contribute here, been making a shortlist in my mind of what’s missing:
      - Active track
      - Master shots
      - Quick Shots
      - Hyperlapes
      - POI
      - .DNGs for the tele lens // auto-only for video settings
      - 4k 120fps
      - 1080p 200fps
      any addl input appreciated!

I am currently on a Mavic Air 2 and I love it; But the camera is a bit lacking when compared to both of these new drones. What the Clincher is for me on the M3 is the Obstacle Avoidance, the Zoom function(hopefully upgraded for more smooth operation), and the possibility of using a Cellular connection...

    I'm just learning this drone stuff, I bought an air and crashed it 3 times in sport, these things are tough 3 x blade changes and a couple of knackered legs and it still flies. I then bought an air 2s fly more with the smart controller and instead of buying another 3 batteries I bought a mint second hand air 2 fly more of eBay. These videos really help to get the best images and I probably will buy a Mavic pro3 cine at some stage but the 2s is some bit of kit. I am more interested in the mini3 pro as it lets you shoot where bigger drones are a no no. Thanks for the video, it all helps.👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

When I originally bought the MA2 with the Fly more combo and smart controller at the beginning of the year, the S came out a few months later.
