    Thank you for the video!! My hair is the exact same length, curl, and density as yours!! The thickness is SO hard to deal with and I always have a hard time finding the best style products and techniques, so your video helped me a lot!! What do you do at night with your hair? Is there a pillowcase or scarf, or do you put it up or anything you use to keep the friz down?

  • @sylviamae17
    @sylviamae17 4 ปีที่แล้ว +29

    Don't use deva curl because it has destroyed so many people's curl patterns perm or natural. Also do not use mousse because majority contain alcohol and will chemically burn/fried your hair, I'm a victim of this I had nice tight wavy beach curls and now my hair texture is frizzy and my ends kind just curl, I have to braid or diffuse my hair to have some type of wave. I would stick with gel, any hair products with no sulfates, Shea Moisturizer works best on me and if diffusing with heat always use a heat protection spray. Trust me on not using those products, I have been trying to regain my natural curls/waves for the last five years and I'm finally seeing progress.

    • @KianaJens

      Gosh, this breaks my heart and I am so sorry this happened to you! Hair is part of your identity and it’s not fair to have it taken away. I am very on top of the Deva Curl situation as my focus in my collegiate studies and research is around ingredients of products. My Deva Curl products are in the back of my drawer, continuing to be unused until this situation is resolved and answers are clear. Take care love!❤️

    Thank you for posting this vid 😩 I def got some ideas on how to take care of my perm. I use the shea moisture hibiscus smoothie.
    I just wanted to ask you, how do you sleep with your perm? Do you put it up? Use a bonet? I use to out mine up but I think it pulled my curls and my perm didn't last as long so I switched to a bonet.

    • @KianaJens
      @KianaJens  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I actually don’t do anything with my hair when I sleep. I used to put it up too but then I ended up w stretched out curls the next day. When I just leave it down it turns out much better in the morning. In the morning I usually have to add a little water and oil so straighten out any fizz I accumulated during the night

    My personal advice for everybody that is planing or desided to do a hairperm should cut their hair in same shoulder or right above shoulder length for their first time hairperm but if someone wants to cut even more shorter around ear length for a curly Bob or curly wawy Bob is a timeless hairfashion classic that is truly a recomended for pretty hairperm looks of timeless woman beaty.

    Your hair looks lovely!!! Styling really is everything with curly hair! And a perm like yours is exactly what I want as well! I have type 2b/2c hair naturally, so already follow CGM-- but I'd really like to go curlier! I saw you said your stylist used grey rods mostly-- but could you tell me if you got a basic perm where the rods laid flat, or a spiral perm where they were vertical? Thanks a bunch!

    • @KianaJens
      @KianaJens  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much! That is super exciting and will be an easier transition for you as you are already introduced to CGM! I have a spiral perm that is two weeks old. I have baby fine hair, but lots of it. What products should I be using? I use Aussie, Maui, Not Your Mother's, Miele, and Matrix's A Curl Can Dream. I shampoo and deep condition once a week with a co wash in between as needed. I apply a deep conditioning mask in the shower, then place a processing cap on it for 20-30 minutes. I then rinse that out, ending with a semi cold rinse. While my hair is wet, I apply my curl cream, mousse and sometimes gel. I want plumper curls, but haven't tried a brush, don't want frizz. I will plop or microplop with a micro fiber towel. Then I air dry. I am good for half a day, then frizz sneaks in. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance

    What do you do after you go swimming or are out camping and can’t tend to your hair normally after getting it wet?

    • @KianaJens
      @KianaJens  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      After swimming in chlorine I think the only option is to rinse your hair. Optimally, I wash it with shampoo and conditioner. If I am camping and swimming in a lake I will let my hair air dry when it is down. After it is dry I will put it into a top knot. If you tie your hair up when it’s wet after swimming in a lake it can get a little stinky. I try as wash my hair as soon as I can. During a camping trip I would mostly plan on wearing your hair up so you don’t have to worry about styling your hair when you should be enjoying nature! If you want to style your hair for pictures or something like that I would recommend trying to rinse your hair, apply a small amount of product just as gel, and use a denman brush to style your curls. If you are camping, you would let your hair air dry while the curls set in place.

      It definitely sounds like your hair is severely damaged. Right after my perms my hair is tougher but I do loads of hair masks and heavy conditioners and it typically fixes itself within a month or so. I also tend to stay away from sulfates during that time because they are stripping. My hair has never been extremely damaged but these things help me.

      Yes!!! I like the liquid coconut oil from Shea moisture! However, I don’t think it would work well for thin hair. I have EXTREMELY thick hair and it gets a little weighed down after a few days of applying it without washing.

      Omg that’s awesome!! You will love it:) honestly, I just told my stylist I wanted tight curls but not pushing it to a ramen noodle situation. She used 2 sizes. The smallest (gray) and then next size up (pink) so my curls were not all uniform. I don’t know the actual size of the rod.

    • @KianaJens

      I am very gentle with my hair. You wouldn’t want to crank on your curls. Once the period of bond forming has passed after your perm the curls will remain the same until over time they gradually grow out and loosen. As long as you are not rough with it it will be fine

      The next day I wet my hair a little bit with water and use one spray of the Shea Moisture 100% pure coconut oil. I rub the product into my hands and then use the “praying hand method” to distribute the oil into my hair.

    Your curls are outstanding! Do you still have a perm? These curls would suit you even more on longer hair and be superlative if you lightened your hair by a couple of shades! Has the thought of growing it out longer and hi-lighting it ever crossed your mind?

    • @KianaJens
      @KianaJens  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Thank you so much! I do actually still have a perm and I love it. I think the curly hair really gives me more personality. My hair is as long as it’s ever been at about mid back length. I’ve thought about lightning it and have had others mention that to me a lot recently. I’m just worried that the reds in my hair will be more prevalent and I’m also worried about damage because I really value that my hair is healthy right now

    • @victoriaredhead7832
      @victoriaredhead7832 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KianaJens I agree that your curls really match your cheerful and bubbly personality - and they look great! Wow, mid back length is kinda long, but must look gorgeous all curly! Reds are only normally an issue when lifting much darker hair up by several shades, whereby the hair can take on an orange hue after bleaching. However this is easily corrected using blue/purple/lilac toner to cancel the red/orange tones - look up hair color wheel for more info. As your hair is already comparatively light, it would only require mild bleaching to lift it up a couple of shades and should cause virtually no damage if you condition it regularly. I don't think you have anything to worry about if your hairdresser is experienced in coloring permed hair. Why not speak to them about it?

      @@KianaJens No problem! Hopefully it may give you the confidence to go through with it seeing as you've already given it some thought. The benefits would be huge in my opinion. Here's a link to a video of the process on a much darker haired model. Notice the yellow/orange hue at 2:08 and how it is corrected with lilac toner in this case to give a white blonde color. Also notice how using a hi-lighting cap mixes the hi-lighted and unhi-lighted hair very evenly - this technique gives particularly good results on curly hair, and would work better in your case because you have a light base color to start with Hope this helps! th-cam.com/video/ETmg8TTkMYE/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=MakeupTV

    Hi can someone help me? i’ve watched plenty of videos but it’s really confusing on which products to use and what to use together. I got medium curl rod i think and a week after i got my perm my hair is not that curly because i don’t know what products to put in it. I’m using a morocco oil cream but that’s it and it’s frizzy. main thing i want it to have is to define my curls and make my roots curly.

    • @KianaJens
      @KianaJens  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! Ok so what I’ve learned is that with a perm, not naturally curly hair, your roots will not have that much volume naturally. To have that you would have to tease and style the roots. Next, I personally like to pick a cream to pair with a mouse or gel. However, I have extremely thick hair so the cream doesn’t weigh it down. If your hair isn’t that thick, skip the cream and use a leave in conditioner or conditioning treatments in the shower. Avoid thick products to put in your hair. That may be the reason your hair is weighed down with no curls, the oil cream may be really thick.

    • @KianaJens
      @KianaJens  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would recommend the Shea moisture leave in spray Manuka Honey. And a light gel or mouse. I like both from not your mothers curl talk line. Stay away from the foam in the curl talk line. Lastly, I would recommend applying your products to soaking wet hair for the most definition. I learned how to do this watching curly girl hair method videos on TH-cam. Also, learning how to use a denman bush and diffuse will be your best friend.

      @ang1229 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kiana Jens Thank you! I’m thinking of using a leave in conditioner and a curl smoothie. Would i need to use a gel with the smoothie or anything else or is that good enough?

    • @KianaJens
      @KianaJens  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would pick either a leave in or a curl smoothie. And then pick a gel that has the hold you are looking for 😊 you can always buy multiple products but don’t use them all at once. So pick one cream type product for moisture and one holding product like a gel for a wash day.

      Oh my! Yes this is what I got with one perm. However, my hair holds styles really well. I remember my stylist saying that sometimes perms do not take as well on hair that doesn’t hold much style. I would reach out to your stylist and ask some questions. It will be a while before you can get re permed without totally damaging your hair. Also- I would ask how you should be applying product and fixing up for hair for the day to make it look the best it can. See if they have any ideas.
      For reference if it helps- I get my hair permed every 6months. By the end I don’t really need it re done but my roots have grown out by that point.
      I hope it works out!!!! ❤️
