Born and raised in Minnesota. The high school tournament was broadcast on tv long before football. I remember watching as a kid in the 70s. Hockey is #1 in highschool sports hands down
But I also very much agree with you. My hockey team is the 3rd best in the state of Minnesota. I go to the really good school both academically and athletically
Anyone that loves hockey has to come to the Minnesota State High School Tournament at least once. In my opinion it is the best hockey experience in the world. I have been to many NHL games and NCAA games in my life. Nothing can compare to a tournament though. St. Paul is absolutely crazy that weekend with all the fan bases. The Xcel Energy Center is at max capacity for all the AA games. Tickets are harder to get each year it seems.
I played/coached for a house league in Phoenix, Arizona. I never played/coached outside of the state. Until 3 years ago, where I was giving a chance to coach in Minnesota for a season. I had a massive culture shock when getting there. The amount of resource available, time comment by people, and the support from the community was crazy. If we had just 5 % of that here, It would be a HUGE upgrade.

They stopped going to the Alaska Aces games, even though the Aces had successful teams throughout the years, winning 3 kelly cups. A combination of poor economy and losing interest due to people overall losing their attention span, they thought the team would always just "be there"...when it was announced that they were gonna fold and relocate, oooooh, then people all of a sudden started caring again, but by then, it was too late. They were fickle, and they paid the price for it.
Theres no way that an nhl team would work in alaska. The travel costs alone would be too much, topped with player salaries, team costs, staff salaries, and hockey fans in anchorage(which is where they would be based) are fickle as fuck. They let a successful echl team slip through their fingers and when it was too late to save the team, only then did they start caring again. So no, alaska isnt gonna get, and frankly doesnt deserve an nhl team

However I would like to know how this channel knows so much about the culture of hockey, because I never would have expected this video to had been as correct as it was.
I'm surprised ND isn't on the list, too. Apart from the University of ND being a powerhouse, many of the top high school teams play schedules with a lot of MN teams on them and do well.

I kinda expected to hear North Dakota and I'm a bit surprised that only one New England state made the list. But I have to say I really enjoyed this video so much information given and I'm excited to see if you have more videos.

San Diego Gulls is also the oldest active team which dominate the AHL attendance. Willie O’Ree ( The first African-American hockey NHL player) Play with the Gulls for number years in the 60s and can regularly be seen out and about in the community of San Diego his number hangs in the rafters at the San Diego sports arena( fun fact)
I live in Los Angeles, California and it is a growing sport, with more goalie coaching available than ever before although we don't have a ton of rink options. And yet I go to the 6th grade with 2,200 kids (6, 7, 8th grades) and there is only 1 other ice hockey player in my whole school. They started a PE class of ball hockey and I scored so many goals the first day, they gave me detention.... I told my dad and mom we have to move where there are more hockey kids and competition, so I appreciate your info and awesome videos. You rock!
My childhood in a suburb of Minnesota: Age 3, Bauer Beaver skates on the pond across the street the Dad's shoveled. Age 6, first team play, outdoor rinks only, standing in a snow bank for a bench. Age, 10, squirts, first traveling league play going to tournaments all over the state. Age 14, Bantam, first international play besides Canada. Age 17, member of State Championship team, the hype, the glory, the legacy in the community and mobs of college programs at every game. Age 50-something looking back...any other hockey I played after high school was disappointing in a way I only get now. I guess it's about the love of the game and playing for and being supported by a community of people that were in my life for many years. Hey awesome, I was born and raised in Hibbing and played goalie for us through high school. The Hibbing Memorial Arena is a really cool classic old building and I think one of the best, most grand/nicest for it's time, and definitely one of the biggest high school arenas in the state.
Minnesota high school teams have occasionally played prep school teams from out east, though I'm not sure how much that happens anymore. I seem to recall Holy Angels playing against some of the big guns in the east some years ago and the games were competitive.

I did my part in Wichita Kansas. Along with two friends we founded a High School Hockey League. Although it was Inline Hockey; we had many players that played in Junior Ice. We choose Inline because it was more accessible and affordable to the average Joe. We had 15 area High Schools playing as a club sport. We tried hard to get the school district on board but they instead choose bowling. Had local news come out a couple times a year to show a little slice of the action. We had approximately 200 kids and several 100’s of parents and spectators filling the building a year for a run of six years. Can’t tell you how much fun and hard work it was; but it was worth it.
Minnesota college teams are ridiculous. They are always good and they always play each other. The talent in the college teams in mn is out of this world!
Nice! My son plays SL2 (Bruins) - he is an 06. But he doesn't get to many games because he plays for 05 Gentry Galaxy and they travel out of state almost every weekend! Hockey is a small world!

Max Lee New York is up there because people forgot about long Island. The Long Island Royals. They used to be the kings park royals. One one of the best traveling teams in the east. I know because I played for em. 💪 🏒
Max Lee Illinois though? Lol. Chi folks are big babies. Lol
Illinois shouldnt even of made the list
You can't do Illinois/Michigan which is it?
Illinois has the Blackhawks and then nothing
As well as Pens Elite, Vengence AAA, and one of my teams, the Arctic Foxes has 7 Bantam teams. I also play for North Catholics middle school recruit and we are undefeated with almost 100 goal in 7 games
Why is Detroit called Hockeytown? TJ Oshie confirmed that Warroad, MN is Hockeytown, USA.
Actually its Eveleth, Mn. Home of the United States Hockey Hall of Fame.
Yes Eveleth has the USHHOF, but Warroad is Hockeytown USA. I read several articles.

Nice job. I am from Michigan and it’s a great state for hockey! Although there aren’t any D1 colleges for womans hockey! Way behind the times thanks to Red.
I think that's why Wisconsin is such a powerhouse they get all the talent from Michigan and Chicago
