Seeing the audience really put in terms how much of a true pop star she is. I haven’t seen a single person create a crowd this large in a long time. Let alone someone so new and fresh.
If people would treat others how they wanted to be treated, or if people would put themselves in someone else's shoes for a bit... this world would be a better place.
She's 100% right. Celebs aren't obligated to give you time. They're entertainers & that's it. Of course they should be greatful for their fans, but there's too many stalkers out there that do scary and crazy things. We all know restraining orders don't really do a damn thing. Celebs have died because of these crazy people.
I have never understood the fan mentality i have been a “fan” of people but i never followed their life like that to a point where i know things like their parents name or where they grew up like their entire background .
People asking to take her picture and walking up to her to talk is part of her job as a pop star. Especially because she touts herself as a member of a marginalized community and she uses that relatability to garner fans. By the same token, every worker who experiences stress in their work place can enforce boundaries they have in their minds, but that is not the case. Normal workers have to deal with unwarranted stress at some points. If the line crosses into criminal behavior than she has recourse. But it honestly sounds like she was ill prepared for fame and she is trying to self destruct a bit.
I wish the 1D boys would have spoken out this way. I remember one of them was home for a funeral and people saw him and demanded pictures with him while he was at the grocery store.
Why is it so hard to just treat others with respect? Celebrity culture has become so toxic, randos will feel entitled to anything and EVERYTHING just because they “blew up” whoever they’re harassing!
I agree with her.. people put celebs on a pedestal and forget they are people too and deserve privacy and respect too. the fans shouldn't be allowed to get away with this they can be crazy
Don’t like her music but no one deserves to have their boundaries violated like this. It’s probably for the best she walks away before resenting her job because of weirdo fans
Just because a fan sees her on the street and wants a picture makes them weird. I think that is wrong. Does she deserve a bit of respect on the days she don't want attention, sure. At the end of the day this is what she signed up for and every other singer learned to deal with it as those so call weirdos are the exact people giving her this career and paycheck. How about she shows a small bit of respect to them. She isn't just some lady like she was saying. Sounds more like she needs media and people training.
Honestly her statement worked if I saw her now I wouldn’t go up to her because of her statement so if I ever got a chance I will not or would not to approach anyone famous
Ok but its also so weird that she becomes overwhelmed while she put all that work to get the fame and notoreity. She should've donned a mask like marshmello or a wig like Sia. Shes entitled to he privacy but at the same time shes putting put the work to get famous. So i dont understand her being overwhelmed about it.
Also, "it comes with the territory" and "this is what you signed up for" sounds suspiciously like "what was she wearing" and "what did you expect dressed like that" like Chappell doesn't deserve this, nobody does
I will never understand why fans feel the need to stalk their favorite celebs or find where their families live. Imagine having such audacity that you look up someone’s house just because their daughter is a singer?
People are dangerous!!! How many celebrities have to be killed or hurt by a “fan” for their fears to be valid. I wish more celebrities would speak out about the lengths they have to go through to protect themselves from stalking and over obsessed fans. I think most celebrities know they’re going to be called ungrateful for speaking out against this type of behavior so they don’t. I think that needs to change because It’s wild that some fans think that seeing or stalking a celebrity in public automatically means they have the right to approach them.
I mean there is a level of privacy invasion that comes with being a celebrity but going over boundaries, touching them, stalking them and their loved ones… that is never okay. People just go way over the line and ruin things for everyone involved.
i also don't get why people are comparing her to other celebrities who do take selfies with fans outside of concerts/shows, like people have different ways of setting boundaries and what they're ok with/not ok with. it's not rocket science.
She is 100% right. No one deserves to feel unsafe. Yes, she's a celeb, so people are bound to be excited if they see them in public, but if they say no to pictures, YOU LEAVE THEM ALONE AND JUST SAY HI I LOVE YOUR MUSIC RESPECTFULLY! You most certainly leave her family alone too because as much as I hate the "but you chose to be a celeb" argument, their family and friends did not. She seriously just wants basic human respect with no stalking and no harassment.
Chappell is also from a small quiet town so I feel she isn’t used to the limelight and the wild life of the big city so I can imagine it’s very overwhelming and she’s totally in her rights to ask for privacy! I have seen her be very polite to fans on videos that ask her nicely and aren’t creepy about it for photos! She’s human too with her own thoughts and feelings! Paparazzi can be so horrible and invasive too!
This happens in all lines of work with women unfortunately, it makes me feel so heard that a woman in the public eye is saying no this isn’t okay. No this needs to stop. You know all the rest feel that way but it used to be bad for press. I’m so happy seeing times change…I hope.
the excitement that comes with meeting or seeing a famous person you look up to is hard to hide. i don’t agree with the stalking part or finding her parents and siblings. but taking a picture or waving back wouldn’t kill her. she built this.
I don’t think anyone is truly saying stalking and threats are ok tho? I’m not a fan, and I wish her safety, but there is something kinda disingenuous about this whole situation to me. This is someone who has been trying to be famous for a long time & says they were about to quit music unless they broke into the big time… and then once that happens, turns around and says they might quit due to some weird fans, which is drawing even more attention and press the more she talks about it. Like out of every one comment I’ve seen that is angry at Chappell, there are a thousand supporting her. So like… am I missing something? The vast majority of fans aren’t behaving like this… Not to mention that she’s been so personable with fans in the past, like replying to all her DMs and opening a phone line with an answering machine for them, so it’s kind of a case of learning you need firmer boundaries when you’re trying to be a pop star.
Didn't people absolutely hate Doja Cat and Ryan Gosling for declining to take photos with fans??? Why is Chappell's case different? I don't think celebs should get harassed or stalked, that's literally against the law, but if a fan wants to take a photo and you decline, the fan has every right to be upset and post about their experience. If Chappell can complain about people approaching her, people can complain about being declined a photo with their favorite celebrity.
because shes new and people find it natural to be in the spotlight for most of your life (Gosling was literally on mickey mouse club) to get tired of the fans. I think she is seeing the writing on the walls and shes going to have to either never go on tour and only push out albums (which I dont think that's how it works) or step back forever
I agree, I’ve always thought harassing people because they have fame/money is crazy and not right. She makes such a great point about it being the same vibe as a woman wearing an outfit deserving harassment etc
Parasocial relationships are scary. I don’t blame her. People like Bjork have had terrible experiences with deranged fans (fan recorded his unalive in dedication to her). Better safe than sorry.
Her concerns are valid, but I strongly feel her mgmt & label need to step it up on protecting family location & get her a security team. No, it’s not normal for someone to grab a celebrity or ever ok. But the vast majority of her fans would NEVER, & they can’t do anything about that. That’s an issue for security & creating a team that rises to this level of fame.
I could never imagine blowing up as fast as she has and trying to keep up with everything while still trying to live life. The internet is making people feel so entitled and feel like they need things from people. Like let them eat or walk or be alone!
Saying that because she's famous, she deserves to be attacked by crazy fans is akin to saying that a woman deserved to be r@ped because what she wore. I do hope people listen & take her seriously. It would be a great loss in the art/music community if Chappell retired at 26. She doesn't deserve this and I love seeing a woman standing up for herself, setting boundaries, and protecting her bodily autonomy.
I hope people understand that "invading someone's privacy" comes with a spectrum. Before we get to the worst part of the spectrum and lose a talented and/or influential figure, we better listen to them when they ask for their privacy
As a mom, what I will never be able to wrap my head around is the PARENTS who think it's ok to take their child out to influencers/celebs houses, studios, sets, etc. If my son had a favorite celebrity or influencer (gag me) and I'm sure he will when he's older... I will always teach him how to be respectful and how to be a fan from afar. You can go to a concert or show but you don't harass them online.. you don't go to where they are.. you don't cross any boundaries that you wouldn't want crossed. It's really that simple. These people owe you absolutely NOTHING.
In a perfect world, she would get her wish, but unfortunately, fame and fortune comes at a price. I feel bad for her private life being exposes, etc, yes, but it's kinda hard to feel bad about her fame. She knew what would happen.
She's not wrong, but asking for a photo isn't really the same as stalking, harassing etc. Going up and just yelling screaming touching etc yes is weird and not okay but asking for a photo?? Nah
I just don’t understand her saying “ I love you” and stuff. Doesn’t that just perpetuate the par-asocial relationship. She’s on CEO level and CEOs don’t clock out. Stalker fans are known to not be accepted. I think she needs to befriend more famous people that can understand what she’s going through and give tips.
You cannot control other peoples weird behavior. So when we say its part of being a celebrity, it comes with territory of HAVING MONEY TO HIRE ONE SECURITY GUARD and protecting yourself. You dont know who's out there and you can't control people. Soo like what else do yall want.
It’s so annoying how people want celebrities to be “just like us” but then as soon as we get one, people get mad because they set healthy boundaries. It’s crazy how hurt people are over this woman not wanting to be touched by randoms, surely that should be a normal expectation.
I understand everyone's views and yes she is entitled to privacy but where is the gratitude for what those fans have done for her. She acts like she is some lady but know you are not. Most of the world knows who you are. She really can't take 2 minutes and give back what she was given. Shit, I know taylor Swift has nothing to do with it but you know why she is so beloved? She spend 10 hrs doing meet n greets in her early days, hugs and thanking every person. Even know her last tour she will walk through crowds, hug her fans and cherish them cause without them she wouldn't have this incredible life. It's okay if it want to not allows be touched or hugged but you need to give back because as fast as it was given, it can be taken way. Also there will be stalkers. All celebs have them. I don't think she is cut out to be in entertainment by the way she speaks. Lastly she needs needs to stop with the whole women and harressment. There are men who get harnessed too. Also woman are never told to yo chill. They have never more been in power than now and she is acting like it's not. Ugh the feminist bs is gross.
I understand her but people just asking for a picture isn't harassment in itself and many appreciate it even tho it can be overwhelming but it's great that she's communicating that *she* doesn't like it so that her fans don't do it ❤
I get her points to a certain extent but asking for a photo doesn’t sound like harassment. I see why people would want a photo & Chappel can respectfully decline it. I bet most asking for photos are well intentioned. But now she’s said this publicly, people shouldn’t approach her if they know this.
I'm not surprised that her fanbase turned on her. I predicted this would happen the last time Spilly talked about her, her fanbase and her relationship with them always felt like a ticking time bomb to me.

She’s allowed to have limits and boundaries, and privacy. All celebrities do… This does not allow anyone to stalk/harass/unalive them. Remember what happened to Grimmie. If her bodyguards starts knocking out the crazies, don’t act surprised. Harassment is never ok.

I think it is accepted in part for the financial side of these creepy behavior, to reinforce "super fans". These celebrity often have security guards and so on. But yeah, it needs to change, to become more humane and safe. She said what many where scared to say.
I just can’t wrap my head around it, why would anyone have to go to extreme lengths to harass an artist? If you like them, enjoy the music, purchase a concert ticket, and leave it at that
I'm happy for her that she is making people realize that this behavior is completely deranged.... also , people need to realize "celebs" are HUMANS, they just sing and act, which is their job, their bread and butter , and yall become crazy over them. There's admiration and then complete obsessiveness .
I totally agree with her...the entitlement of fans these days is getting scary. We need re-educating on how we treat any public figure. I also think public figures need to stop throwing around the word "love"... they need to stop feeding the parasocial relationship. Telling strangers you love them is weird. Appreciate your fandom by all means , just reflect the boundaries that you expect.
I’m glad she said something! I love her music! I’d never ever go up to her, Or hug her or whatever! Ew wtf? More Celebs need to say something. At the end of the day, Guess what? Every celebrity is a human. They go to bed, They get cheated on and cry. They don’t „have to“ hug or whatever u!
Okay, if anything, if these entitled fans aren't getting the memo about celebrities needing their physical and personal space or perhaps unaware how parasocial relations work (particularly in the age of social media), a certain Eminem video entitled "Stan," which was released in 2000, certainly is an eye-opener. Believe me, just watch it for yourself. It's relevant now as much as it was over two decades ago. Just saying
I’m sorry but if doja cat can tell her fans she doesn’t like them and still go on tour then I believe chappel deserves to do the same exact thing..I don’t think there’s an agreement where if you upload music that you consent to be harassed by people…these deranged fans need to touch grass
How are you forgetting how people have treated doja???? She was treated awfully like there's a reason for her massive switch up I'm not surprised if chappel does the same if she continues to do music

Props to Chappell for setting boundaries!!!! That’s huge. Especially for a celebrity to do. I think this is the first time I’ve openly seen a celebrity do this. She ate. People are crazy.
Here’s the thing though she’s not a normal person. OK when you are a celebrity people are gonna come up to you and ask to take photos with you. That is just how it goes. The stocking is not OK like the stocking should be stopped seriously stocking is ridiculous that somebody would feel like they should stock their favorite celebrity getting angry when you say you don’t wanna take a photo with somebody I mean it’s literally your job to saying I understand that but when you’re in the public, I like that you also have to realize it’s also your job to see your fans talk to your fans socialize with your fans or else you won’t be able to build that bond. How do you think? Taylor swift built a bond with her fans? She didn’t say that they couldn’t come up and take pictures with her if you don’t wanna take a picture with somebody just say like I can’t right now. People should not get mad if they say that they can’t remember if she’s going places without security she needs security. She’s not like a super famous singer, but she’s also not like not well-known.
Honestly, it’s really messed up how she’s withholding music because of crazy Fans. Not everyone is like this. If she wants personal space, everyone should respect it; however, she shouldn’t punish the Loyal Fans that respect her personal space and privacy. She already called them out. So many people get pictures with celebrities in public. Adam Sandler is a good example of a Celebrity who doesn’t mind taking pictures with fans. He’s a cool dude. The Loyal Fans always ask permission for Photos. The crazy Fans don’t, they’re not Real Fans if they don’t ask permission for a Photo.
While I do understand, it’s also her music, she has the right to decide not to release it and you’re not entitled to it, whether you’re a loyal fan or not, and the minority or not, crazy fans can do a lot of damage to a person, mentally or even physically, Christina Grimmie is the biggest example, if she decides she wants to step back from the spotlight, that’s her right. She’s not messed up for doing that, she’s not punishing you, she’s protecting her peace If you’re only respecting her because you expect to get rewarded for it…you don’t actually respect her

Her mom, who was a cancer patient for over 15 years I believe, finally died two years after Christina's murder, she was so hurt I guess it was really hard for her to continue fighting cancer without her daughter, she loved her so much. It was horrible, there's a lot of videos about it here in case you want to know more about her story. She was also a finalist on The Voice on Adam Levine's team and her voice was beautiful, it still is tho, just listen to her music.
And Rebecca Schaeffer before her.
@@tonyrosamusic oh wow djeez °-° did they arrest the fan? °-°
@@DarknessDust He k-lled himself right after, sick
Seeing the audience really put in terms how much of a true pop star she is. I haven’t seen a single person create a crowd this large in a long time. Let alone someone so new and fresh.
I could never be a celeb lol i'd get canceled for beating someone up I don'T play about my personal space
SAME 😭😭
If people would treat others how they wanted to be treated, or if people would put themselves in someone else's shoes for a bit... this world would be a better place.
I agree
I wish the 1D boys would have spoken out this way. I remember one of them was home for a funeral and people saw him and demanded pictures with him while he was at the grocery store.
Right
Chappell is so right!! So proud of her for speaking out I can’t imagine being in her shoes it would be so scary
Same..
Right
Why is it so hard to just treat others with respect? Celebrity culture has become so toxic, randos will feel entitled to anything and EVERYTHING just because they “blew up” whoever they’re harassing!
Finally, a celebrity who IS GOING TO START a CHANGE. THAT OLD WAY OF CELEBRITIES IS SO TWISTED.
I agree with her.. people put celebs on a pedestal and forget they are people too and deserve privacy and respect too. the fans shouldn't be allowed to get away with this they can be crazy
Right
….Why would she get backlash for wanting personal space? The entitlement in this world is real.
Right
Don’t like her music but no one deserves to have their boundaries violated like this.
Right
I mean there is a level of privacy invasion that comes with being a celebrity but going over boundaries, touching them, stalking them and their loved ones… that is never okay. People just go way over the line and ruin things for everyone involved.
Right
i also don't get why people are comparing her to other celebrities who do take selfies with fans outside of concerts/shows, like people have different ways of setting boundaries and what they're ok with/not ok with. it's not rocket science.
Right
Chappell is also from a small quiet town so I feel she isn’t used to the limelight and the wild life of the big city so I can imagine it’s very overwhelming and she’s totally in her rights to ask for privacy! I have seen her be very polite to fans on videos that ask her nicely and aren’t creepy about it for photos! She’s human too with her own thoughts and feelings! Paparazzi can be so horrible and invasive too!
Right
Shes been pushing for years to get famous and get success. Tho shes in entitled to he privacy... All this conversation seems disengenous to me.
For sure one of your top uploads yet!
The only thing I disagree with is it's not only women celebrities who have to deal with this it's men to sometimes worse then women
I was today years old when I learned I’ve been mispronouncing “Chappell Roan” in my head this entire time. 😂😂
Wait now I need to know what you saying!!! 😂❤
I was definitely saying Chappell like Dave Chappelle 😂
@@Chewtubehuskyhouse😂😂😂
@@markramos1216😂😂😂😂 oh the irony
Perfect blue. Type of parasocial, kinda crazy.
😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 oh the prince 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Oooh good one!
I completely agree with her!!
Yeah asking for pictures and being upset is totally normal but touching someone without their consent is not excusable
I'm glad she's speaking up about this!!
Right
I agree, I’ve always thought harassing people because they have fame/money is crazy and not right. She makes such a great point about it being the same vibe as a woman wearing an outfit deserving harassment etc
Honestly don't really know who she is, but I am like "yesss bish set the standard!!!"
Good for her!
Parasocial relationships are scary. I don’t blame her. People like Bjork have had terrible experiences with deranged fans (fan recorded his unalive in dedication to her). Better safe than sorry.
He also mailed her an acid 💣 that they luckily intercepted!
This girl is spiraling 😂
Well said.
It’s disgusting that this is even a question. Be human to human for a minute
Right
doja cat said this too but people hated her for it. she did say it way harsher tough lol
She is bringing back 80s vibe music. Come on people don't ruin this 🥲
You cannot control other peoples weird behavior.
Right
I understand everyone's views and yes she is entitled to privacy but where is the gratitude for what those fans have done for her.
I understand her but people just asking for a picture isn't harassment in itself and many appreciate it even tho it can be overwhelming but it's great that she's communicating that *she* doesn't like it so that her fans don't do it ❤
I dont know her because I am not on tiktok😊
amen to her. people who are pressed to her rants are red flags...
She thinks highly of herself because I have never heard of her
Now ya have!
She basically said “thanks for the money, but fuck off”, I’m not surprised either.
Its about time someone called out these crazy stans
She's so cool for this response
I love this for her. Set your boundaries Chappell!
Right
Do we not remember what happened to Christina Grimmie? Such a terrible thing happened and I do not blame others for having fear
christina grimme was at a concert venue, over the years theyve taken better measures. a better example to what chappell fears- being that she doesnt want to be bothered off the clock on her on personal time is what happened to John Lennon. but of course no one wants to use his story because hes a man. his own apartment.
She’s allowed to have limits and boundaries, and privacy. All celebrities do… This does not allow anyone to stalk/harass/unalive them. Remember what happened to Grimmie.
If her bodyguards starts knocking out the crazies, don’t act surprised. Harassment is never ok.
There’s fans, and there’s killers. Know the difference, most killers disguise as “fans” to get close to celebrities only to strike.
I still don't know who the fuck this is lol
This is why Hannah Montana wanted a double life 😩
Sis ate and did not lie
Let’s not forget what happened to Christina Grimme….. people didn’t respect her space and we all know how that turned out!
christina grimme was at a concert venue, over the years theyve taken better measures. a better example to what chappell fears- being that she doesnt want to be bothered off the clock on her on personal time is what happened to John Lennon. but of course no one wants to use his story because hes a man. his own apartment.
If you like them, enjoy the music, purchase a concert ticket, and leave it at that
This is actually really refreshing and I respect it .
I'm happy for her that she is making people realize that this behavior is completely deranged.... also , people need to realize "celebs" are HUMANS, they just sing and act, which is their job, their bread and butter , and yall become crazy over them. There's admiration and then complete obsessiveness .
she is not the first person to have a stalker
I see both sides the fans side and the artists side but being a bitch about it also gives your fans a right to stop supporting your music.
Glad she's calling it out anyone mad at her for saying is definitely weirdo & need to be watch
I’d never ever go up to her,
Or hug her or whatever!
Ew wtf?
More Celebs need to say something.
At the end of the day,
Guess what?
Every celebrity is a human.
They go to bed,
They get cheated on and cry.
Just saying
I agree with her and we need to normalize this and healthy since there's a strange parasocial relationship with celebrities and influencers or artists
Shes just like us! When we are off the clock, we are no longer at work. Just thankful for having a job that pays the bills. And i love that for her! Set boundaries, people are weird!
She’s not messed up for doing that, she’s not punishing you, she’s protecting her peace
If you’re only respecting her because you expect to get rewarded for it…you don’t actually respect her
you are not entitled to her music whether you're a loyal fan or not
@@galaxyshii8853 actually her label could force her. Halsey (much more seasoned) was even being forced into making stupid tiktoks for her album and she hated it
I am so sad about this. It won’t stop. Regardless of what she said.. and thats so f-ing messed up.. I hope she is safe🥺
It is Never okay to be obsessed over a stranger. All artist talk about the dark side of fame. Unfortunately, body guards and boundary notices to fans have to be made clear. With social media of today it is really hard to be anonymous.
if you're a person calling chappell names over this then you're just showing how fucked up you are, icb ya'll are getting mad bc chappell wants privacy and basic respect
I dont have tiktok or listen to this type of music, so idk who she was, but the woman has a point.
I keep hearing people say “common sense isn’t so common” and i think that pretty much sums up this situation
