    The Nintendo 64 was and still is an awesome console, I remember getting this on Christmas of 1998. The first two games I ever own was Pokemon Stadium 1 and The Legend Of Zelda : Ocarina Of Time. It's my favorite console of all time. :)

      I have to agree , easily one of the best consoles ever IMO. Unfortunately I had no chance to have it when it came out , but I recently bought it just to play those legendary plataformers (the Banjos ,CBFD ,DK, Super Mario, etc).

    I wish I had grown up with this system instead of being born the same year it was released. Oh well, I'm collecting old systems now. I have a red transparent N64 and about 10 games now.

      I surprisingly liked the N64 being completely skipped the console purely because of Financial reason and I'm basically too young to own more than one console per generation at the time. (owned a PS1 obviously)
      One thing N64 really trounced PS1 was its reliability I gone through 3 PS1 for the past 10+ years yet an N64 I bought last year probably 19 year old system still works flawlessly.
      The only thing that prevents me from enjoy N64 to the fullest unfortunately was the controller it was pretty fragile,quite ironic since the console was/is rock solid reliable.
      Very friendly console for collectors,and just retro gaming appreciators like me.

      TacoSpy Call me weird but I think the GameCube is Nintendo's best looking console... I'm not joking, the little discs, the bad-ass controller, the game cases, and the odd-looking cube are just real attractive to my eyes.

      buy a 1st gen wii instead unless you dont want that whole library of games. or if you want to get the gba to ngc adapter, which is only compatible with an original ngc. the original wii has a gamecube system built in pretty much. wii's have 4 controller ports for ngc and 2 memory card slots like the original ngc. the only thing you'll need is 1(4) ngc controllers and some memory cards and youre set, just buy games. plus wii's and ngc are pretty much the same price depending on where you look. ive seen both around 50 and below.

      That's why you should never let anyone borrow anything; especially consoles. I learned this the hard way too, but by using this Scroogelike philosophy I still have all my consoles and games from Nintendo to the Wii and PS3, with the Segas in between. I had to rebuy my N64, but fortunately it was cheap, but the games have held their value well. Ouch!

    I was a late bloomer, but I remember the N64's later years fondly. I was unable to get one until a year or so after it was discontinued, but I never regretted my purchase. I spent hours with Mario Kart 64 and Super Smash Bros. My Brother-in-law lent me Ocarina of Time, and I've been a Zelda fan ever since. And my N64 still works, though it's not overly fond of newer TVs.

    Well, the 6th generation consoles did some things better than their competitors. Playstation 2 was always better with simulation games, GameCube was a powerhouse with multiplayer and 1st party, Dreamcast had amazing fantasy and arcade games and Xbox was amazing with scifi games and a bit of simulation, also well known for its first person shooters. Console design, they couldn't be more different, I think in the 7th generation, it was only the Wii that really stood out, the Xbox 360 and PS3 kinda did the same thing.

      The n64 cartridges were big. But can't hold lots of data. Nintendo 3ds cartridges can hold up to 8 gb of memory and is smaller. SD card isn't a cartridge but it is way smaller than the Nintendo 3DS and holds ALOT More. A MICRO SD Card is EVEN smaller than the sad card and can hold more than the regular sad card

    It funny how when he placed the N64 and the Panasonic beside each other, I immediately thought to myself "the Panasonic doesn't work, does it?", and it turned out it didn't xD
    On the same note, if I go to a garage sale (for lack of better word), and I see a Panasonic or Philips CD-I, I immediately become skeptic and assume the sh*t doesn't work, however, if I see an N64, SNES, or NES for that matter, I automatically assume that they are still in working order--- I dunno, maybe it's because they are cartridge based that I think that way.

    • @zephiel123

      PikaLink91 Even the GameCube has a better build quality than most disc based systems (though i have heard some earlier models suffered from hardware issues. Luckily, mine hasnt yet. But i do have a newer model for backup.) PS1 probably had it the worst though. You literally have to turn the damn thing with the disc side facing down so it will spin properly. Great console..cheap design :/

    The biggest downfalls were the 4kb Texture memory, high-latency rambus memory, and shoddy control-stick that breaks more often than the original 360 Red Ringed.

      It's not about the quantity... but the quality of the games matter! I both had the PS1 and the N64 and they both have the same amount of GOOD games, if you skip all the bad/weak games. I had fun with both consoles at the time, but I think the N64 was clearly superior because it brought a lot of new things to the table.

    • @slavathecar
      @slavathecar 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The reason N64 was not nearly as succesful as the PS1 was because it refused the move with the times, the things that made it bad then make it good now ironically but still I just pointed out that it didn't have much games and many people even try to collect the whole library, I know that the ones that were were great but that's not what I meant, I didn't say anything about the quality of the games but their quantity because that was the topic of converaation

    • @SimonvCleef
      @SimonvCleef 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Slavko Gelo I understand what you say and i respect your opinion. But still the N64 didn't have so few games after all. And some games you could play for weeks/months and didn't get bored with. Still part of quantity has to be quality based (or how long you can play a single game). For example do you know ho much games were released on the first atari (even before the nes system)? They were releasing does games like madness. :P But very few were good. Same thing can be said for the complete ps1 library. Overall it would be kind of disappointing, but if you only look at the good ones or the games that are still oke, than it would break even with the N64. Also you mentioned success... it's kind of hard to decide which one was more successful. You would've to ask yourself if total sales of the console is enough or that you've to look in retrospect which console made more impact on gaming overall. Like you said the N64 had a lot of things keeping it back from becoming a super selling machine. It was expensive, the games were always a lot more expensive (some even 80-90 euro's... euro weren't there yet but i recount it in euro's), the library was indeed a lot smaller than the ps1 library (almost every console has a smaller library than the ps1... i think) and one of the most important things: the ps1 or playstation could easily be hard modded. It was one of the first consoles everybody (or at least a lot of people/casual gamers) hard modded back in the days. It's the same with the success of the wii. Part of it is that it attracted casual gamers, but I think a bigger part of it was because it's one of the easiest consoles to softmod and that it was dirt cheap so low risk. If you can mod a console... and be able to have a lot of games for it... it's way more interesting than a console that is nearly impossible to hard/softmod and that has games that are very expensive like the N64. I know... I know the N64 also can have an add-on and is able to play copied games. But nobody had such a thing at that time. Sorry if my answer became a bit long... but i wanted to explain that success is something hard to measure. Same thing can be said for the DS btw...

    I've had both Playstation 1 and the n64. I liked the n64 for multiplayer racing, wwf, and FPS games while I played Final Fantasy and Resident Evil on Playstation. It seemed like PS was my "solo play" console(resident evil, metal gear solid, final fantasy, ect) and my N64 was my multiplayer console(Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Mario Kart 64, WWF Attitude, Wrestlemania 2000, No Mercy, ect)

    I remember being in Year 4 so I was 8 years old and me and my freinds we're talking about video games. He and everyone else had the PS2 (wow so many years when the PS2 was the system to own) anyway him and another friend we talking about Jak 2 and I didn't have the system, just the 64. They we're trying to get me jealous because I didn'y have the PS2 yet and I was talking about all the brilliant games I had for it and they just laughted and I was like 'Shut your tits, come round and play it' Okay I didn't say tits but you get the idea. We played Goldeneye, Mario 64, Perfect Dark, 1080 and Majora's Mask and his hands were glued to the controller, he couldn't put it down he was that addicted to the games. Not so shitty now is it? I never knew the Nintendo 64 had memory cards that could be plugged into the controller. However, I did know that you could plug in a rumble pack into the controller and I have one and I also have a transfer adapter that plugs into the controller that allows for the use of GameBoy games in the Nintendo 64(I never could figure out how to use it though. Maybe you might know how to use it and know what games it works with.). I like the N64 for a lot of the same reasons you do. It is very simple, trusty, reliable, and has easy to learn controls. Since it is cartridge based, there are no mechanical moving parts to fail and no CDs to get scratched. The problem with all the disc-based gaming systems is that the CDs scratch so easily, game cartridges however, provide you with reliable gaming and don't scratch at all. Video games in the form of a cartridge are really made to last for years without trouble. The gaming systems they have nowadays I don't like. They have very complicated controls that are difficult to learn and a lot of the game titles for them seem ridiculous and they are all the same( First-person shooter) I really like your videos by the way. They are very professional in appearance.

    Those were the days. Three different consoles, three unique experiences. The N64 had carts and Nintendo, Rare, and stuff just not found elsewhere due to the cartridge format. The PlayStation has the third party companies, and a ton of JRPG’s. Just a little bit of everything. The Saturn had awesome import games, and was powerhouse in the 2D department. Saga games were great, 2D fighters and my favorite genre, shooters, or space shooters, whatever you want to call them rocked my tiny little world. Those were the days.

    One thing Mark is right about is how that "32/64 bit" era was the last to have unique, distinctive exclusivity between consoles. You wanted great party/multiplayer games (that also had solid single player) - you got a Nintendo 64. You wanted an edgier and mature single-player experience you got a Playstation. If arcade games and shooters were your calling - a Sega Saturn was your choice. The lines since then have blurred - stylistically and subjectively things cross over now.

    Very true. Matter of fact I found a N64 at a Savers for $10. Problem was it looked like it had been sitting in someone's basement for the last 15 years, Dust was literally falling out of the vent holes.... But I bought it anyway. Took it apart and gave it a good cleaning (even found a colony of dead cockroaches in it) Despite all the abuse booted it up and it worked! Just like it did in 1997. These systems are tanks!
