Jalen Carter is like a ‘new-age Warren Sapp’ - Chris Simms | Pro Football Talk | NFL on NBC
/ nflonnbc - กีฬา
You need to understand that he played less than 50% of the snaps but still had such a big impact
Exactly, more playing time... more havoc.
@@Drewb187He wasnt in shape at his pro day to play more snaps. The question with him was if you get him in Pro Day shape or Georgia playing shape or better.
criminals don’t quit being criminals and he is in that smelly crime town philly sewer
@@adrianbuck8772dude, his physique is fine Lmao. He lost weight during training camp and bulked up. Stop pushing this narrative
@@adrianbuck8772good thing he didn’t need to play a game on his pro day
Jordan Davis and Nakobe Dean were his UGA upper classmen. They’re high character guys who have that bond with Jalen. Perfect spot for jalen Carter.
And, they vouched for him when asked.
Nolan Smith was the big brother of those Championship teams too.
I’m just grateful that we got him I still can’t believe it.
I watched part of this game. The man literally broke through the line with ease in almost every snap. There was one play where he was double teamed. He literally strong-armed both of them and looked effortless doing it. 8 teams F'd this up. I would have taken him if I were Seattle. He clearly looks better than most DT, although my guy Keeanu Benton has started to look pretty good.
Forreal, I swear in that Patriots game he would have had like 5 sacks if the Eagles CBs pressed the Pats WRS. Mac Jones was literally snapping and throwing as fast as possible to avoid the sack.
Well really 5 teams messed up. 3 teams needed a quarterback and when you need a quarterback and there is one available you take them. It doesn't always work out but you can't build a team until you have a quarterback because if you don't that's how you become the jets. They have so many talented players but they won't go anywhere because they don't have a quarterback. Carter was only an option for the 5 teams that have their quarterback of the future or at least think they do.
"This shit is crazy" like Slay said. The man is literally in the backfield on every play. We are in for a treat. 15 yr career in midnight green. 🏆🏆
Did the same in the beginning of the season against the Pats OLine, preseason joint practice with Browns he pancakes All Pro Joel Bitonio
He is a monster. I waited all off-season to see this defense get in sync and I love it. Our rookies have been phenomenal. Jordan Davis + Jalen Carter on the interior learning from fletcher cox, one of the best. Our defense is in good hands
Finally some damn respect from Simms on my eagles
He's still a hater though. Suggested they hurt Jalen on the QB sneak.
@@Drewb187 no he suggested they kill him. Simms is an embarrassment.
@@transer1337Simms is ass
FUN FACT: This is the first NFL game EVER to end in a score of 25 - 11.

As good as Paris Johnson looks for the Cardinals, I'm still sick that we didn't take Jalen Carter in the draft. He was objectively the best player in the draft. So sick!
I doubt that corny Coach would keep him in line
I’m a cardinals fan and oline was much more important when you have a immature qb that signed a 200million dollar. For a first time gm and head coach that is way too big of a risk to take a guy that had the red flags he did. Who’s to say he’d be playing like this on a losing team without all his college buddies?
Hilarious how people try crap on Gannon after one clip when he’s absolutely staring as a coach with what he actually has at his disposal right now.
You can't never go wrong drafting A+ Left Tackle.
He also got into an top 3 Situation for him (49ers, Steelers) with good leadership overall and especially at the Defensive front. For him the Situation had to be right. Arizona also should focus on Offense right now aswell.
What's really scary is when Carter and Davis are in the game at the same time. It takes four offensive linemen to hold those two guys back.
I'm so glad that the Bears passed on him, even though defensive line was their #1 need and 3 technique DTs are the most crucial players in a 4-3 system and getting the best player in the draft at #9 is something that almost never happens
Me too
Don’t forget about Seattle and Vegas
Yeah having Carter would really bring down that well oiled defensive machine there in Chicago
Thankyou fly eagles fly 😂😂😂
Huh??
You also have to consider that Philly also had not only some of his teammates from Georgia, but also great leadership as well. Fletcher Cox, Brandan Graham, Kelce, Lane Johnson, etc. Howie knew it would be a good fit for Carter.
John Middlecoff made a great point about this at the draft. Jalen Carter is familiar with all of the SEC guys.. on top of that, they have guys like Brandon Graham and Fletcher Cox in the locker room. You’re not gonna act like an idiot off the field with those guys, then walk in the locker room and look at them in the face. Those are all pros, Brandon Graham sacked Tom Brady to win a Super Bowl, Fletcher Cox has been a top player. Those are great men to be around.
I don’t think Jalen is worried about what Fletcher Cox thinks
These dudes are coddled and pampered since they are 17 years old
They have grown men make excuses and look the other way for them for years before they ever enter the NFL
It really just comes down to Carter hopefully the young man steers clear of any serious problems and grows up to be a fine person but that dude don’t care what Brandon Graham thinks
@@PatTheRipper-zb7oj translation - my mommy didn't hug me enough and I am bitter at the world.
@Pattheripper-zb7oj I'm pretty certain that these guys work harder than you ever have in your life kiddo. There's a reason why they make millions of dollars and you just float around on TH-cam comments spreading negatively. They're just better than you, sorry.
@@PatTheRipper-zb7oj of course he does. These men are his mentors. As good as he is he don’t know everything. And this Eagles team is tight. We don’t have the constant infighting and players bad mouthing each other and coaches. Culture is important. He probably considers Graham and Cox to be damn near father figures. You have a very negative attitude.

When houston traded up I jumped for joy. But then they took Will Andy and I've rediscovered the despair of being a Texan.
Just be patient on Mr. Anderson (The Matrix) we goin to be good
@@evansspeightsdenzel Will isn't worth a second overall pick much less everything we gave for him. No amount of patience is ever going to make that mistake go away. He has never beaten any tackle with talent and never will. He cannot play on the strong side and never will. Even on the weak side he isn't great. All he can do is rush the backfield. Look at AR5's second TD run vs Houston, he just casually runs right by Will. Any good coach and QB will exploit Will's lack of skill by throwing screens to his side. Dude is a clown. Nick Caserio is a clown. The only thing that saves this team is that CJ looks like he is going to be great. And if CJ can get us in the lead, then Will can be useful since rushing blindly into the backfield is exactly what you want. CJ is the only thing that can make Will good. That's F'n sad. We could have had Jalen instead of a clown.
@@evansspeightsdenzelwill isn’t as dominant as carter never was Texans would’ve been good getting a edge rusher later on
@@doublecrossedswine112If Jalen was picked by Houston, he might him been a clown it's a different environment. 😊
@@robocat10 You know the head coach is DeMeco Ryans right? One of the top defensive guys in the league? And no, that isn't how things work. Carter doesn't turn into a pansy just because he went to a different team. Jalen has always bulldozed double teams on his own.
I am happy he with the eagles the best place for him
He's more Reggie White than Warren Sapp. Reggie used to throw guys his own weight with one arm, no lie. Or he'd run around them and mash the QB. Sapp was great but he didn't have Reggie's skills cause he was far slower than Reggie. I get what he's saying though... it was Politically Correct NOT to pick Jalen. You don't pass on Reggie White Reincarnated.
Boom! So right.
I’m a Falcons fan, but truly hope the Falcons and Eagles play so the Falcons brass can eat crow. Maybe Bijan Robinson (who we selected in place of Carter) can block Carter after he blows up that highly paid offensive line we have……
No Reggie was not faster than Sapp
Im a huge Eagles fan who enjoyed the game and was impressed with Swift like everyone else. But the O line made a lot of those runs possible. They were punching massive holes all day. Swift is able to shoot through those holes like a bullet, gaining huge chunks of realestate. He had not needed to bounce to the outside or squeeze through tight gaps. I can not overstate how important a good O line is for any sustainable running game.
He has the second highest double team rate in all of football and he is still absolutely recking shop! Thanks to the other 8 teams that let this man slide
What a pick !
Defensive tackle are starting more elite then edge rusher imo because aaron donald will really did change the position
What language are you writing in?
so sick that the Seahawks passed on him... Witherspoon may turn into an elite CB but he's undersized and it's not even certain he'll ever get there... Howie Roseman is not only smart, he's really lucky too... so kudos to him...
Sometimes it’s better to be lucky 🍀 than good
He’s not that Lucky, could of drafted Jefferson but passed on him its all a crapshoot.
@@motive7475it’s not that much of a crapshoot there was no eagles fan that wanted Reagor over Jefferson none or JJAW over DK. Ever since then, at least in the first round, Howie has drafted Need + Consensus.

All that off the field stuff helped Carter fall into the birds laps, thank god!!!! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
2 people died
As an eagles fan it’s pretty messed up what you said right there. We are fans of a sport. Those people who died have family’s still grieving and missing a loved one from now until forever. Sheesh have a heart
If not a football GM, Howie Roseman would be working in investment banking M&A for Goldman Sachs or Morgan Stanley. Most other football GMs would be managing a Home Depot. That's the difference.
Remember, with Javon Hargrave, the Eagles were gashed against the run last year and had to sign Suh to shore up their interior. Insert Carter for Hargrave - suddenly the Eagles are stout against the run.
This kid is actually more Jerome Brown than Warren Sapp. If Brown didn’t die young, he would have been an all-timer.
Crazy both were selected at #9 in the draft
I knew he'd be great once the Las Chaos Raiders passed on him for a broken Wilson.
The only two owners above the Eagles that picked the top 10 that would have questions would be the Cardinals owner and the raiders owner. Every other pick looks to be working out just fine.
Crazy cause old Oakland raiders had some of the craziest ex cons on their roster
At this point Carter is the best DL I’ve seen in decades.
It all works out. We passed on Sapp years ago because of issues so it happens to all teams
Mike Mamula was just as good.. he led the league in hurries.
@@igglesjawn3975 lol as Sapp? My man come on.
@@igglesjawn3975Mamula just as good as Saap? 😂😂😂
Simms has ZERO credibility when it comes to talking about the Eagles. He dissed Jalen Hurts for two straight years right up until the NFC championship game. Even then he reluctantly apologized for saying Hurts and the Eagles were not legit. Simms praising Carter is the equivalent of him telling us water is wet. Eagles fans don't need to hear from Simms about anything.
Simms is the perfect example of “Those who can, play. Those who can’t criticize those who can.” He is the disappointing son of a former star. The failure in the family.
Did you hear what he said defensive coaches should tell their players to stop jalens qb sneak? He said tell them to headhunt and kill the quarterback. He's a fucking scumbag
SNOWFLAKING much?
why would the Bears pass on him? Missing Mahomes and multiple other players isn’t a good look on Chicago 🤦🏾♂️
Fletcher cox has been jalen carters mentor calling him everyday, he got his bull dog teammates with him. Veteran leadership and former college teammates play a big part too. So all that mess about his off the field issues is resolved because of the perfect surroundings he’s in. Jalen Carter and the eagles is the perfect match
Jalen Carter is number one player #1.💚
We got a set of monsters in Carter and Davis
The best part of the game is when I saw Jalen throw a pick right at the 1-yard line and I knew we were going to safely
At the end of the day he was racing which you take L for that..but the girl who was 3 times the legal limit and decided to get behind the wheel is the one really to blame as the cause of her death and well as the passenger..NOT JALEN..and people call him a murderer..wtf
Yeah its getting to be intellectually dishonest with folks on this. He did things wrong in that situation but the idea that he killed anyone at this point is pure slander.
@abaoaqu1333 it's almost like people don't want to talk about the girl bc she passed or to ignorant to look up the facts but thats what they are..I'm glad he fell to us
Great move Howie R!
@ 6:42 music 🎶 too me ears 👂🏾
Great comparison, both from APK!!!
This just might be the greatest D-line ever assembled in the NFL and right now is winning games for the Eagles.
He has more pressures than Aaron Donald on less snaps, and is graded first for interior defensive lineman in pff. He is something else man, forget droty he might really be in the running for DPOY!!
This guy was double teamed and still sacked mayfield at the same time as an untouched cox. Unbelievable.
The way mike says what he did it’s like he is implying that Carter killed those ppl
Pretty sure he's from the same town as Sapp too. Eerily similar draft night between the two also
They went to the same HS
He’s better than Sapp. He’s just as strong as Sapp but more athletic. Sapp probably has him beat on dirty play though. Sapp was one of the dirtiest player in league history
Carter and Sapp went to the same high school
It’s only week 3 before you crown him give it some time. I’m rooting for him. But it’s early
It's week 3 & he's playing less than 50% of the time AND putting pressure on the QB like the top DT in the league, the former Philly Eagle 😅
Do you see what he’s doing 🤣 he’s winning with brute strength. You don’t need time to evaluate that. If it was a scheme thing yes. But he’s physically breaking through double teams. Sorry don’t need to wait to understand physical dominance
@@tyrone-7794 i wasnt talking about his abilities. We can all see that hes dominant and a generational player. I was talking about the off field problems that scared teams away from him. Again, i am rooting for him and hope he makes good decisions in the league. but he did have some issues in college, and he's only 3 games into his NFL career.
Second time today I hear carter is the best defensive player on the eagles already. Crazy he fell to them.
Carter is a beast & any team will be better with a rookie player
Aaron Donald/ Warren Sapp hybrid
Thank you Falcons the most.
Man he is truly worth all the hype he is getting, he has Aaron Donald talent
Can we talk about the environment that Carter was brought into. Guys like Cox and Kelce
They literally went to the same hs apopka
It’s pretty obvious that the Eagles had the perfect situation for him and other teams were scared to bring him in because they knew they wouldn’t get out of him what the Eagles could, so they passed.
People really hates the Eagles. They are mad we got Jalen😂😂
He dominated, and only played 25 snaps…
I agree with Mikes point about GMs being scared to make career ending mistake.. But to me, a rookie QB is way more likely to fail in todays NFL than a 3 technique DT or top OL.
And NO ONE is talking about Jordan Davis who might even be better!
Jordan Davis is ballin
Other team who passed on him are punching the air 😂😂
Say what you want but BG, Cox, Sweat, Hurts, Kelce, Johnson, Mailata, etc… all happen to be highly skilled but humble. Seems like a conscious effort to draft guys who are actual leaders (in mentality) as much as they are elite athletically. I understand why they would pass on the guy but you can’t tell me this isn’t the perfect spot for him to grow. Sheesh, did 8 other teams really s**t the bed on this one.
Getting Carter means the Eagles are playing with house money. They are feeling good.
Yes, he was borderline dominant, but let’s see him during a game where he has to play all the snaps that the opposing team has ran with the time of possession advantage
Don't you think Carter is thriving in Philly in part because he has so many buddies from Georgia to help keep him on track?
I am more reminded of Reggie White
#98 is "HAVOC"
Warren Sapp didn’t see his friends dead and flew the scene
Which is why Carter is better
Chris Simms should never be allowed to talk about the eagles again after calling for our QB to be hurt. Keep the eagles out your mouth Chris
The teams above the eagles dont have the locker room the eagles have. jordan davis, nekobe dean, former gerogia leaders
To some ppl though character matters!!!. No one mentions he left ppl for dead on side of road that he street raced!!😢
Best part is that it wasn't even the eagles pick. Thank you new Orleans.
I'm so glad the Raiders passed on this guy for a player coming off a broken foot who's managed 1 QB pressure so far in 54 snaps.
Mannnnnnnnnn....And Josh mcdumbaas just let him walk on bye and drafted a cat that's slower off the line than I am...
In the case for the GM's that did past on Carter: these young GM's have a 2 to 3-Year to try to turn their organizations around so if they end up taking a risky pick Like Carter with the red flags and doesn't pan out, they're out of the job. It's damned if you do,damned if you don't.
It's insane to take a very common thing young guys do before their brains fully develop and make it seem like he's this menance to society. Especially coming from people 45 and older who went through their entire teenage and young adult lives where DUI's were literally simple tickets and they drank and drove accordingly... People make mistakes and to pretend like star athletes must be perfect misrske free people is actually at odds with the type of preferential treatment and access to everything being a star athlete tends to attract.
I need this to be the last week the talking heads bring this shit up.
REGGIE WHITE
Oh ok so he's a multi time all pro and multi time pro bowler and a first ballot Hall of famer or whatever Warren was fun fact jalen played Tight end or h back in high school like Warren but anyways im not ready to say he's Warren Sapp but this is the same media that said tua was done and he wasn't an nfl qb man it'd be so funny to have to watch the media hand tua the mvp trophy
and what do you think's going to happen to Tua when he faces Carter in a couple of weeks?
The Falcons passed on this wrecking ball at the #8 pick in the first round.
And this becomes yet another critical mistake in a history of critical mistakes in Atlanta Falcons history.
The first mistake occurred after its founding when Rankin Smith wanted Vince Lombardi to be the coach. Lombardi was interested, in 1965-66, but he wanted to come in as co-owner and Smith rejected this as a possibility. The Packers’ defensive backs coach, Norb Hecker was then hired as the first Falcons head coach.
But Smith was in no mood or mindset to give a coach time to develop a team, like the Cowboys’ organization built a winning tradition by keeping Tom Landry from the team’s founding through 1989 when the team was sold and Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson replaced Landry and continued the winning tradition.
And Norm Van Brocklin, the next coach, had the team on the rise till Smith and Atlanta’s puritanical crowd demanded Van Brocklin’s ouster because Van Brocklin confronted a sports reporter and had words with him.
I could go on.
It’s the Falcons wheel of Karma, and release , somehow, will certainly be nirvana.
Chris Simms with something positive to say about the Eagles? Is he ok? 😮
It’s one game…. Let’s talk week 17….. media turns everything it’s a overreaction
Sorry about your team not getting him
It’s actually been 3 games
And the fact the Raiders passed on him for a MF with a messed up foot 😒
That’s a stretch…Sapp is a HOF’r.
Gosh Florio HATES the eagles 🦅
I’m so pissed the hawks passed on this guy. Yeah their pass defense is bad but it’s because they get 0 pressure!! (And their DB’s are hurt) it’s not that they don’t have players back there. Spoon was a luxury pick when they had massive needs on the line! 🤦♂️
I was screaming at the tv during the draft when it happened then convinced myself maybe we’ll have the LOB 2.0. Idiot. I knew they fucked that one
Y’all got another player we was gonna take if carter wasn’t there robinson
Go take a look at old films of Jerome Brown. Screw Warren Sapp, He looks more like Jerome. The Size, The Power, The Drive. The push he gets on OL is Freaky Scary. The Potential JC has is off the Charts. This guy is pushing through Double Teams. He has Reggie White, Jerome Brown Potential. And looks every bit of them.
The Birds got themselves a Bonified Super DT in Jalen Carter! Watch Out!
Where did this crap about him not being a hard worker come from? What a load of BS. Because he showed up to a meaningless pro day after his friends passed during a race he was in a little out of shape? Yea no crap he’s Human.
I never understood that. Multiple media folks followed up with his coaches and Kirby Smart on camera refuted this talking point. But once a narrative starts ppl just run with it. Kirby talk about how he got hurt early in the year and instead of mailing it in for the draft rehabbed back and played hurt because he wanted to be there for his team. If that's a lazy guy, give me all those lazy guys.
Did you say Warren Sapp? Jalen Carter has played in 3 NFL games. Let's keep things in perspective.
You relax
Well 3 years ago he chose Reagor …
Look at the Eagles draft last 3-4 years . Incredible talent players under 25. Love you mention reagor but don’t mention the studs was drafted
He made up for
That big time
-Raiders had to pass on him -> JC in Vegas is a bad bad combination and they knew it.
-Seattle -> Pete wanted Richard Sherman 2.0, but it's easier to find great CBs than great DTs so this is a mistake.
-Cards -> they needed oline help for the COD guy who plays QB, so I don't mind them passing on Carter.
-Atlanta -> I have no idea what they're doing. You never ever choose a RB so early in the draft...
-Bears -> Even worse, they actually needed interior dline help. Why they passed on him I have no idea.
pete already found sherman 2.0 in the 5th round last year. he wanted his troy polamalu to pair with him
@@divinecomedy7311 Oh I see.

This is the dumbest fall in the draft ever. All this guy ever did was dominate everyone he ever played against at every level of his career… We have some real geniuses running these multi-billion dollar organizations.
He ended up in the right place anyway, that defense will grow together and will be an absolute menace to anyone they play for years to come.
They just gotta take the chains of Brown cut him and Blanketship lose I feel like they can be a good maybe even great combo 2 heat seeking missile with good ball skills and Brown can cover the slot

How are these people allowed on tv? Even if this is their radio show, just let it stay off camera. These guys do not know how to look on camera
This happens like every draft. Stop. Teams wanted other people. Some teams don't investigate somebody they don't necessarily want of need. The picks before Carter went to homes that wanted them. The bears didn't appear to be interested. People were scratching their heads the eagles even traded up 1. As in giving up a pick in the trade when they almost assuredly would still have gotten him without the trade. REWATCH THE DRAFT. it wasn't like it was a massive theft.
It's hard for me to believe that professional teams would pass on him based on the accident he was involved in. Remember Ray Lewis's incedent was controversial, and then he won the Superbowl that year. Because, same as Carter, had nothing to do with his phenomenal talent. Even if it did reflect poor character, (which it didn't) HE'S DEFENSE! They're supposed to be animals! The Bears passed on Mahomes. Passing on Carter is just the next worst decision ever made by that disaster of a program. Congrats to Philly for having common sense
Stupid is forever folks, Carter will do something ridiculously dumb again very soon. It’s remarkable what kind of chances talent provides. Mock me now but more attention and adoration guarantees future problems

Florio always just dogs people for “what they should’ve done”. “Why didn’t the Bears take Carter?” Like he would’ve made the right moves. He’s always operating from hindsight which is 20/20 and makes it seem like he would’ve known what to do and has never made a mistake in his life, even though we watch him make mistakes and blunders every single day. He’s so delusionally arrogant. Like sooo far beyond reality it really makes me scratch my head
The seahawks are stupid for not taking him
Do people still listen to Simms? And didn’t he just call for people to headhunt and “kill” hurts?
If you put THAT DL on the worst team in the League… That team would win 4 extra games JUST from the DL.
That’s a fact
I was so pissed Seattle passed on him and it didn’t make any sense to me. Pete probably wasn’t attracted to him like he was Witherspoon. Jalen probably wouldn’t let him touch him and grope him like others did. I’m an Eagles fan now and I hope Jalen embarrasses Seahawks this year just so I can here Pete mumble and look stupid
