Slight story spoilers below: . . . . . . This was an eye-opening part of the game for me, the part of the game that really let me see the effect of Egil's madness and disdain for Zanza firsthand. I was expecting to walk into the heart of enemy territory, with radical followers of Egil waiting to cut Shulk down at every step along the way. What I was greeted with was the desolate ghost town of a once-thriving city, patrolled by nothing more than the soulless mechon that we've battled through on our way here, as well as a small collection of mass-produced faces, likely acting without a mind of their own anymore. The scattered remains of Telethia litter the city, showing how long it has been abandoned, and the lack of care Egil has for the crumbling city. It's a sad, haunting atmosphere that reflects just how lonely Egil is anymore. Egil was so caught up in revenge that he pushed away everyone who loved and looked up to him, and Agniratha is the perfect visual metaphor of it.
This. Is why the moment you come here is one of the single most powerful moment in the game. The first time I played this masterpiece and got here. When I looked at the desolate city. I didn’t even need to go to the tower to find out the back story I knew exactly what happened. And just sat there staring blankly at the screen. Didn’t have any thought process to continue on for a minute. Cause everything I figured out was about to be confirmed. 10/10 storytelling. Was expecting a massive fight and got a desolate city ruined by a battle fought long ago.
Mechonis as a whole is a metaphore for Egil and his mindset. We check outside, see nothing inherently wrong; egil had replaced the old arm that had been cut off with a new one, leaving the old one in the water almost as a reminder. We go inside, as we try to wrap our own head around it trying to understand him and his motives -- agnertha and vanea provides us with better understanding. We can get into his head a bit now; but his heart is where the turnmoil really is so we go to mechanis core to try to reach him one more time. In the end, there's no way to know whether we almost obtained peace with egil or that his sanity and clear headed-ness was temporary before he would inevitablely slip back into the madness.
Now that I hear this again on Definitive Edition it reminds me of the Land of Morytha in XC2, even more so with the added vocals. Even thematically they are very similar. A city, once bustling and prosperous, then a terrible tragedy strikes, and now it is just ruins and desolation. The song makes you feel heartbroken. Outstanding job by the developers and the composers.
The same could be said about Elysium as the music that plays when you first arrive can give you the same feeling as you see nothing but ruins and the lonely church. It’s funny how Klaus caused not only 1 city to be in ruins but 3.
Holy shit this remixed soundtrack is giving me goosebumps with those vocals. This is probably the best Remake i've played since the original Resident Evil.
I just reached Agniratha. I was so amazed when I heard this remastered version for the first time. This remaster of Agniratha night is so majestic with the choir. I definitely prefer this over the original.
While I was here I always changed the time to night just so I could hear the vocals, they add so much more to the meaning of the song and I reallt felt the weight of the people that used to live there
I never got anywhere close to Agniratha in my playthrough of the 3DS port, so my only knowledge of this theme was from Chuggaaconroy’s playthrough. I was really excited to hear the theme remastered, and this did not disappoint.
This theme gives me a similar vibe as the Hyrule Castle theme from Twilight princess. Desolate and hauntingly beautiful. You really can feel how this was once such a vibrant location and now all the history and memories slumber under a veil of death and loneliness. It’s like the location itself is weeping for its past inhabitants
I thought that Agniratha had the best music from just the day time alone... then I get a good listen to this and I'm even more convinced of that thought.

This place was so jaw dropping! I seriously thought that it would've been a place filled with Machinas but no... just an empty Abondoned City like Morytha because of the Zanza's greed. It was so sad seeing mindless Mechons there and Abondoned homes and streets. Morytha, Hyrule Castle (Wind Waker and Agniratha were the only places that left such a depressing feel. Agniratha an Abondoned place filled with life but because of Zanza is now Abondoned. Morytha, our home, also destroyed by greed and is just destroyed and very depressing and Hyrule Castle from Wind Waker was unexpected not knowing that Hyrule was flooded out and you just see Hyrule Castle beneath the waves... The very place you grew up with in Ocarina of time with people cheering that Link saved the day was now flooded by the gods because of Ganondorf's hatred and greed playing a haunting tune of Hyrule Castle and the statue of the Hero of time broken. These places are the most depressing places I've witnessed in video games yet and how could I forget Elysium as well! I was so excited to witness paradise but instead a depressing wasteland! How I love Xenoblade! It's such a masterpiece! It's truly my second favourite video game franchise of all time and forever!
Finally found the version with the vocals. THIS was the one I entered Agniratha on, and I'm so glad I did. The daytime version is amazing too, but this one just settles in your heart in a way that makes you feel the story behind the city.
Those two missions, that one mechan with a nasty spike. I never beat it, so now those two unfinished missions that led me to it are now going taunt me. But it's ok. It can rot in the rubble. Edit: I discovered I could get back here, and being over 10 levels higher, managed to beat that monstousity. But it's a bittersweet, hollow victory; just glad it's done with.
@@valkyrion_ex1173 I know, but I didn't have (good) enough haste/agility/spike gems to go around and it was pretty late game - right before mechanis core and the plot goes nuts - before I got started with upgrading colony 6 for gem crafting on the go and crafting more gems in general. And there's a high entia that gives you a level 6 gem for doing a sidequest for them, was the first level 6 i had received. I got several more later by crafting.
@@ShadowSkyX Yeah, I guess it is quite tough if you dont have good enough gems. I'm at Mechonis Field and I just beat Revolutionary Bifrons (520 spike damage) using only Purge cause I was too lazy to slot in Spike Resist.....wasn't pretty lol. But I managed anyway 🤣

Spoilers Listening to this after Mechonis Core, 1:30-1:55 hits the hardest for me. Going through Agniratha already hit hard the first time round, but then you add in the extra context that Dickson - Shulk's surrogate father for 14 years, and a recurring ally throughout the story - is one of Zanza's disciples. He stood alongside Zanza when the latter was possessing Arglas and launched his assault on Mechonis. Dickson bore witness to an attempted genocide and didn’t give a shit. Every time I hear 1:30, I replay that brief flashback of Dickson in his Giant form, standing alongside Zanza and Lorithia, and it reminds me of why Dickson is one of my favourite antagonists in the whole series. The fact that his whole "surrogate dad", "lonely adventurer" image was a complete facade that he kept up for decades, just to keep clinging to the power that Zanza gave him. He watched as Zanza annihilated Agniratha, he tried to kill his adopted son, effectively stood by to a second genocide, this time with the High Entia becoming Telethia, and was willing to allow the world to be endlessly destroyed and reborn just as long as it meant he could retain his power. It’s even implied that he’s not that loyal to Zanza, as he says at the Colony 6 Telethia battle that he’s perfectly fine with Shulk being god instead of Zanza, plus he also willingly gives up after his boss fight at Prison Island and just allows the party to advance to Zanza. Bit of a tangent, but yeah, Agniratha's beautiful, Dickson's one of my favourite twist villains ever, this game's amazing 10/10 holy fucking shit can't wait to play Xenogears in like a month's time hopefully.

I've decided I wanna do NG+ runs of Definitive Edition and XC2 first but then I'll get round to it. If it’s any consolation I've played the first hour of Xenogears at a friend's place and it was fucking amazing.

Ever since 2005, we've lost many things near and dear to our hearts. So today, we remember our fallen minigames and mechanics of the Yakuza franchise. :(
While I truly admire that like 80% of the soundtrack was remastered for DE I have still always preferred the OG OST over the new one, probably due to nostalgia tbh. But this track right here! Imo this is the absolute best remastered track! Adds all the feels to the original song but the added vocals really push it over the edge to make it even more sad and filled with emotion over the base song. The base song feels more desolate and abandoned without the vocals but this song feels like it truly is tragic that Agniratha could not be saved and all that is left is a shell of a once great place with only destruction to remind you of what happened.
Crazy to think that the whole game up to this point was leading you to believe that you’d be breaking into a heavily fortified compound to take down the mechon once and for all only for it to completely subvert those expectations and you come across a desolate city, and the truth of the great battle.
...you know. It always bothered me how we never actually got to explore the new arm of the mechonis or even use the legs to climb up the remnants of the mechonis. Yes, with the shadow gone, it was supposed to suggest it was gone forever, but at the same time... with this game's philosophy of "if you can see it, you can go to it" ...I'm still bothered you actually don't go up towards the false arm, right leg, hell the junks is a literal boat, what's stopping the machina to seek refuge in the dead titan?
It's pretending to be one. It's been built up as the final battle since the Fallen Arm and it's not until the core that you realize there's still another leg to go.
[Big Spoilers] No we're in Agniratha, and they're mentioning how this kinda forshadows how Alcamoth will later become almost as desolate with the exception of mindless servants(Mechon, Telethia), some people who might've long forgotten who they are(Faces, Former High Entia)
I love this music, and I love the game as much. Got it little over a week ago, and I loved the music. Still do, but here’s the thing. The remake’s music just doesn’t sit well with me whenever I played, all it did was make me want to play the original over this. Then I switch to the original songs, and that feeling stopped. So yes, I love the new graphics, but I prefer the old music. Thankfully I can change them, or else I might not actually by playing Definitive edition. All I can finish on is that nothing, I repeat, nothing, can ever replace the unbreakable hold that the original game has on my heart.
That’s understandable honestly, I sometimes felt like switching to the original music but told myself that I should experience all the new stuff including the music and then on my 2nd playthrough or new game plus I’ll play using the original music for the nostalgia factor im missing
that's interesting, I've quite liked all the new music so far aside a few (like the boss theme, ugh), I also agree that I'd be just as fine w/ the original soundtrack
@@Seiyol that is understandable, as anyone who never played the wii version probably wouldn't understand the nostalgia that it gave, no offense. Just when you've played a game several times, and a remake is made with remakes of the amazing music, the new music often won't sit right.

You know you can negate spike effects with Monado Purge, right? Or just craft a bunch of Spike Resistance gems

Topple Lock, Monado Purge, Spike Defense Gems, and combine them if one falters.

Yeah I think the new engage the enemy is an ok song but I hate it. The new one lacks sorrowness and creepiness.

Going through Agniratha already hit hard the first time round, but then you add in the extra context that Dickson - Shulk's surrogate father for 14 years, and a recurring ally throughout the story - is one of Zanza's disciples. He stood alongside Zanza when the latter was possessing Arglas and launched his assault on Mechonis. Dickson bore witness to an attempted genocide and didn’t give a shit.
Every time I hear 1:30, I replay that brief flashback of Dickson in his Giant form, standing alongside Zanza and Lorithia, and it reminds me of why Dickson is one of my favourite antagonists in the whole series. The fact that his whole "surrogate dad", "lonely adventurer" image was a complete facade that he kept up for decades, just to keep clinging to the power that Zanza gave him. He watched as Zanza annihilated Agniratha, he tried to kill his adopted son, effectively stood by to a second genocide, this time with the High Entia becoming Telethia, and was willing to allow the world to be endlessly destroyed and reborn just as long as it meant he could retain his power. It’s even implied that he’s not that loyal to Zanza, as he says at the Colony 6 Telethia battle that he’s perfectly fine with Shulk being god instead of Zanza, plus he also willingly gives up after his boss fight at Prison Island and just allows the party to advance to Zanza.
Bit of a tangent, but yeah, Agniratha's beautiful, Dickson's one of my favourite twist villains ever, this game's amazing 10/10 holy fucking shit can't wait to play Xenogears in like a month's time hopefully.

I've decided I wanna do NG+ runs of Definitive Edition and XC2 first but then I'll get round to it. If it’s any consolation I've played the first hour of Xenogears at a friend's place and it was fucking amazing.

Fei and Citan in particular are really engaging. Gonna start Xenoblade Chronicles 3 in October to help me get through my final uni year, then I'll do all of Xenosaga afterwards.

While I truly admire that like 80% of the soundtrack was remastered for DE I have still always preferred the OG OST over the new one, probably due to nostalgia tbh. But this track right here! Imo this is the absolute best remastered track! Adds all the feels to the original song but the added vocals really push it over the edge to make it even more sad and filled with emotion over the base song.
The base song feels more desolate and abandoned without the vocals but this song feels like it truly is tragic that Agniratha could not be saved and all that is left is a shell of a once great place with only destruction to remind you of what happened.

Crazy to think that the whole game up to this point was leading you to believe that you’d be breaking into a heavily fortified compound to take down the mechon once and for all only for it to completely subvert those expectations and you come across a desolate city, and the truth of the great battle.
Adding vocals to the night theme might be the best thing about the entire remaster

I love this music, and I love the game as much. Got it little over a week ago, and I loved the music. Still do, but here’s the thing. The remake’s music just doesn’t sit well with me whenever I played, all it did was make me want to play the original over this. Then I switch to the original songs, and that feeling stopped. So yes, I love the new graphics, but I prefer the old music. Thankfully I can change them, or else I might not actually by playing Definitive edition. All I can finish on is that nothing, I repeat, nothing, can ever replace the unbreakable hold that the original game has on my heart.
That’s understandable honestly, I sometimes felt like switching to the original music but told myself that I should experience all the new stuff including the music and then on my 2nd playthrough or new game plus I’ll play using the original music for the nostalgia factor im missing

the DE is my first time playing xenoblade and the remastered tracks seem better to me in almost (if not all) cases.
@@Seiyol that is understandable, as anyone who never played the wii version probably wouldn't understand the nostalgia that it gave, no offense. Just when you've played a game several times, and a remake is made with remakes of the amazing music, the new music often won't sit right.
