There really is dynamics though you can hear the difference in bell resonance when he goes to forte I think it's just the gain control from the phone mic making everything even out
C'mon, 24/16 time signature is actually only 12/8. Or even better put, 6/4. Therefore, each downbeat would have to equal a dotted quarter note. If you were to play quarter notes in 12/8, they would have to be played as quarter note triplets. It's only listed as 24/16 since there are only 16th notes.
I remember having to learn this in high school as the selected trumpeter to go to districts. It was "fun", I guess. I recall, back then, not being well-trained enough, being unable to make it as clean as I would've liked. Today, I can't imagine why the work gave me such issues. Thanks for bringing back the memories. Seeing as it is 2018, I hope you're continuing your musical journey.
Beautiful! I played this at a solo & ensemble competition in high school (back in 1997) and loved it. This makes me want to get the trumpet out and play again. :)
6 years late to this lol! Current high school junior who’s playing this for solo and ensemble in two days and in two weeks a big audition. I love your interpretation and will definitely be using it to help me!
Very nice, thanks for posting, I will look for this one! Isn’t it interesting how, in the “old days” variation was the same thing as a modern “jazz solo. “
@@trumpetjordy so many kids these days don’t have a clue what jazz is, and it’s a shame they are not taught, essence is really much more the creativity rather than a certain style or era. And after all, what is even a classical composition if not an improv solo based on chord changes that’s put in writing? You sound great by the way, do you have any favorite players you listen to?
In 24/16 a dotted quarter note gets the beat (how the notes are grouped gives you a hint on how it should be counted - if look at the beams, you have three 16th notes under the same beam). So there are 8 beats in a bar and all of the beats are subdivided into three 16th notes. I don't know why the arranger chose that time signature, because there are definitely more conventional ways of writing in a compound meter (for example12/8 - you would just have double note values and more bar lines, but it wouldn't really change that much how the rhythm is felt). Also, some of the measures in the 24/16 time signature variations don't have 24 16th notes in them, so I'm really not sure what the arranger was thinking.
I was a beginner last year, but I caught on pretty quickly and my seat was moved near the advanced players. My teacher said it was to help me improve more because the other beginners weren't any help to me. I was already more advanced than the other beginners within a few days. Before I joined band, my mom said things like "You don't have an instrument and you won't know how to play one" thinking I didn't have the sort of talent. My lesson teacher told me that I have a special talent for every instrument which is why I was able to handle all the stress catching up to the advanced players who have been playing for more than 5 years. My mom now encourages me to learn more than one instrument. (My insane goal is to learn every instrument and become a band teacher.) Which I don't think will work, but my mom thinks otherwise. I have a question though, does the size of the instrument make a difference in sound? My first Trumpet was a copper one from my grandpa he found at a garage sale. But it's from the 1970's and is super hard to tune. The sound wasn't all that great and I wanted a different one. Then one of my grandma's bought me a different one. It's brass and is a little larger. It's harder to play and takes more air but my lesson teacher said it makes a better sound than the other. It is also easier to tune in my opinion.
Better is subjective Kaitlyn, smaller bore horns .430 - .460 tend to have a more focused sound, but this also depends largely on the bell flair. Large bore horns .460 - .480 tend to have a more broad sound but it also depends on the bell flair... There really is no "better" sound there are only different sounds. The bell shape and thickness will have an effect on how bright or dark sounding the horn is. It all depends what you want. So do you want a bright focused sound or do you want to dark broad sound? or somewhere in the middle?

How does a 24/16 time signature work?
24 beats in a measure, 16th note gets the beat.
Shaun Patrick woah, that sounds... hard

Not really. In this context, it's just triplets in 8/8. Think triplets on top of "one and two and three and four and".
