I could'nt believe my eyes when i saw some Batavus mopeds. The factory is just a couple of miles from my hometown and i never knew they exported this stuff to the States. Batavus is one of things that we, as Frisians, are really proud of, together with the Frisian horses, for instance. Those mopeds are very popular these days, there is a revival of classic mopeds going on in the Netherlands. Friesland is a provence of the Netherlands, as you might know. But we still have our own language and culture and Batavus is a part of our heritage, just as Harley and Indian is to the USA. All your footage is very interesting, btw.
ik zat ook al vreemd te kijken dat ik de Batavus zag. I hope he'll make a video about restoring that one.... would be intersiting for us Dutchies... :-)
Clinton-brand mopeds are rebadged Sachs mopeds from Clinton Engines Co. There was only a single model made, the 50-A. It used a Sachs 505 engine and was only made from 1978 to 1980. The Clinton 50-A had turn signals and the magneto system was augmented by an extra battery to keep all the lights bright. It had a detachable gas tank (nice for cleaning and rust treating) The tank held 1.1 gallon. Fuel was premix, weight of the bike was 119 lbs.
@@macelius thats coz yamaha brought out the fizzy ( fs1e) in the 70,s it was a big jump from mopeds as it was literally a motorbike of 50cc that could be made into 100cc by buying an aftermarket upgrade kit and it didnt look different :)
Gotta Say,.. have been on your channel about a week now. Can't quit wathchin! When I was a kid my folks bought me a moped, and I ran it all over our small town for a couple of years. This was nostalgic, for sure. At first I didn't know what to think about the white-knuckle ride past all the backed-up cars, but soon I was laughing my a@% off. Thanks for taking us along!! Looking forward to seeing the rest of the restoration. Great work, as always!!
When my dad passed away two years ago, one of the things I was sure to get from his workbench was the same tin of 3-In-One oil that I had used as a kid on my bike. The smell was a flashback to my childhood. Great sponsor for your wrenching. Thanks for the great videos Mustie1!
I so appreciate Mustie's videos. It's like going to small engine school. The 3-In-One plug is sure alright with me. I've been using it for 60 years. It may be old school but it hasn't changed and does the job.
A friend just gave me a 1978 Motobecane Mobylette that has been sitting in a shed for quite a few years. I plan on using this video to help me get it running again. Thanks for posting Mustie1!!!
This is the most tasteful and well-received (by me) advertisement or paid promotion in any video I have ever seen. I already love and use the product, but I will use the product going forward with the understanding that Mustie1 has endorsed the label and trusts the company to sponsor content for us to watch. Bravo, man!
Thumbs up for 3-1 Oil. I know it has been along for fix-it jobs in my family for at least 3 generations. Always enjoy your videos and have learned a great deal from your experience.
Love the 3 in one! Its been my go to multipurpose oil my whole life! Good for you getting them as a sponsor! What ever helps you keep making these great videos is a good thing!
Another great video brother, glad you mentioned the smell of the 3n1, smells like victory. Used it in my model trains and slot cars when I was a kid, still use it for many products today.
Mustie good product placement! 3 in 1 oil is good stuff! On your little ride it looked like a few people did not like that you were passing them on the right. A few people put their tires on the white line.
I must admit seeing how effective 3-1 seems to be after watching it been used in the last couple videos it does make me want to buy a bottle for a try. Advertising works
I've used it in motors, bearing blocks, on high-carbon tool and knife surfaces and on a long q-tip to clean mechanical surfaces...drizzeled it into chain drives and dripped it down into old choke cables and gas-feed cables on lawnmowers, & in my sewing machine. Shoot a little in on the bearing in the bottom of a weed-eater and lubricate any pivot point, in a mechanical linkage system. Also is great to use on model airplanes and model trains, battery operated model boats...and the uses are endless!
Mustie1, the smell of 3 in 1, gasoline, and Johnson’s paste wax are just a few that I like and bring back memories of pre teen years frankensteining my own bikes from parts in the junk yard or along side the road in the late 50’ early 60’s of Schwinn! Gasoline to clean them up, 3in1 to lube them (or take apart) and paste wax to make them look pretty and fly through the air - haha. Very good purchase and clean up/tune up! Should make for a nice little around town putter! You might take the beaver out to the regatta turn and capsize some sailors as they look at the beaver in awe - haha.
Coming Soon! Pamela Anderson assisting in a pair of New Balance serving up our favorite brand of coffee, and Modeling the WD-40. In all seriousness though I can't pedal my Schwinn without my 3 in 1. Dang I just wish they put 3 in 1 in a spray can for our buddy Mustie
3 in 1 oil has been a part of almost every project that has needed oil since I was a little kid in the 50s. My dad always kept a couple cans around and I have continued the habit.
Yep you can't beat a drop of 3-In-One, i grew up with it too :-D That machine is so similar to the Puch Maxi moped, it used red A.t.f transmission fluid for the clutch/gearbox too. That bike steams along very nicely :-D.
I have been using 3 in 1 since i was a kid myself and i'm 59 now, and i have a bottle sitting on the shelf in my garage right now that i use all the time and it is a great product. Thanks for another great video Mustie.
Dang Mustie gone all sold out like metallica on us. Can't think of a better sponsor for a better guy than Mustie, I hope they're throwing bags of money your way!
German Sachs 500-505 series - one of the best moped engines ever! Some mopeds had a separate belt or chain drive with the pedals, but the 505 Sachs, had it all built in to the gearbox. I purchased a 'demo' 'Wards Imperial' moped with this engine, from Montgomery Wards in 1980, for $400, after they marked it down from the original retail of $750. It's the only new motor vehicle I ever bought! My gas- tank is built in to the frame like your Puch. At the time, their catalog listed another model with a tube-frame and separate gas-tank, similar to yours. Mine was built in the US by Columbia - the bicycle company, which they also sold as the 'Columbia Commuter'. In my state, these were restricted to 20 mph, but mine could barely top 15 until I removed the restrictor-plate from the carb. Then it would do 20 easy, or even a bit more. So I guess that made it the 25 mph version. 30 mph models used a smaller rear sprocket. Mine's suffered from being stolen and recovered from neighborhood delinquents in the '90s, then being stored in a leaky shed for awhile. But I fixed it up and got it running again a few years ago. Shutting off the gas and running the the engine to burn off the remaining gas for storage has saved the carb. 5 years ago, I also bought and revived a 1977 Euro Sachs moped. It has the 504 engine, with a separate chain-drive for the pedals, Km speedometer, and a strange headlight pod with a 'half' headlight across the top, and the horn behind a grill across the bottom. in the '70s, many states changed their motor vehicle regulations to allow these without titles, registration or tags. But then they relaxed the speed restrictions and many states now require registration and tags again.
You're a daredevil, Musti! Your camera lens makes everything look so close, when you were passing the cars on the right - I cringed when you went between the car and trash can.
Rick - same here. I was waiting for the scrape/crinkle/crunch as he was flying (going way too fast) beside that slow moving traffic, pressing his luck, in my book! Chuck in NE Kansas
If that was me I saw him coming, I'd have opened my passenger door! Don't get me wrong I like Darren and all but that was very dangerous and not very courteous Road Behavior. It's impatience like this that cause accidents
staind288: I'm sure he had plenty of room, and the traffic was going really slowly - especially for a moped to pass! But I think the wide angle of his camera lens made it look scarier than it was. Motorcycle riders do that sort of thing all the time, and you can understand why - they can easily get around, so why should they wait?
Rick Bailey I hope you are correct that he did but anyway they shouldn't do it because it's very dangerous and it illegal. Not to mention it's rude to other drivers on the road
Use to use 3 in one oil for lubing up the squirrel cage on the swamp coolers when I was getting them ready for winter and summer. I agree it's great stuff

Musty a lot of people don't understand about adding Stay-Bil to a fuel system if a motor is going tgo sit for any length of time. I use the stuff in all of my combustion motors, from m/c's to lawn tracktors and snow blowers. I have a '92 Lincoln Mark Vii Bill blasé edition that I have had for 20+ years. If I'm lucky the car is driven 500 miles a year,it currently has 61K on the clock and I picked it up with 42k.There are times the car sits for a season or two but I put stay-bil and the next time I fire it up it starts right up. Even when I store my VRod for the cold winters here in New England I've never had a problem starting. To me its an awesome investment
I remember the very first can of 3N1 fluid I ever seen was on Momma's sewing machine table. Little can about an inch and a half tall. When it got empty she use to have Dad refill it from his "Big Can" as she put it. That was 57 years ago, and 3N1 is still a great product I use all the time. Great Vid Mustie1. Keep'em coming & God Bless Brother!!!
Middle-aged guy riding a baby blue Moped with HANDLEBAR STREAMERS through town. They definitely think you're weird now Mustie. The "DORCY" battery was fun too!
Not sure if I'd mentioned this before, but 3-in-one eats rust. I used it on a brake line union as it was rusted into a "T" and would not come off. I let the 3-in-one soak over lunch for about an hour and a half. Came back out and the rust came off the line like wet sand, and union came out of the "T" fine, but still required a back-up wrench and some force. I now use it when doing brakes to prevent the line from twisting behind the union. And when dealing with nut-on-bolt combo, I'll soak it behind the nut. I've come to realize that the only thing that really helps metal siezed into metal is to heat the outside metal then remove the inner metal.
You feel this vehicle is safe for highway travel? Yes, I do. It's not pretty, but it will get you where you want to go. You got no outside mirror. It's lost. You have no functioning gauges. No, not a one. However, the radio still works. Funny as that may seem, the radio's the only thing that's really working good. Don't ask me how.
Have you noticed that Hoppies #9 smells different now than it did 50 years ago?! It used to keep the no-see-ums away when you were hunting. This new formula has no effect on the skeeters and gnats!...& It's not as strong a scent.
Loving the handlebar tassels Mustie. Easy rider out on your hog, the open road, the wind in your hair and a jacket that says, "if you can read this, my girl must of fallen off" on the back... MUSTIE MC FOR LIFE BRO!!! ✊✊✊✊
How strange is it that I enjoyed seeing an ad for the old favorite, 3-in-1 Oil? That takes the cake. I hate ads. Even the "ads" are good on your channel, LOL. Thanks.

I’m 13 and personally an amateur small enginewrencher myself and find in my opinion there is nothing better than the smell of 3 in 1 and gas in the morning
yep 3 in 1 always takes you back to the good old days it always and still has its own distinct smell that slight oily and detergent smell....happy days
As a little guy ( 5 years old ) my Dad gave me a used, rusted peddle car, a pliers and a can of 3in1 oil. He said if I wanted to ride I had to fix it. We were poor but I didn't know it. He taught me a great life lesson with that little car.
Hi Mustie. I am a believer in Three and one oil. My Dad let me use it to oil a music box for my Sister, back in the early 60's . i keep at least three bottles in my shop. Great job on the repairs. Bobby
Aluma-weld sticks weld anything aluminum with propane torch. I have way too many of them, maybe 200 sticks. I fixed holes in my aluminum jon boat. I think they would work to put that nipple back on the fuel shutoff.
yep.. "lumiweld" and similar brand sticks can repair that kind of stuff really easily... its probably a common fuel tap size and if you dont have any sticks already a new chinese tap is probably cheaper... but always useful to have an on hand
I too love the smell of 3 in 1 oil! One of the first things I bought when I moved over here to Thailand! I use it all the time! The pic of me in my profile photo is on the jungle coaster, up in the mountains outside of Chiang Mai, Thailand about 40 miles from my house!
This video brought back memories for me. my first moped when i was a kid was a crescent 1260 with a Sachs 505 motor. awesome little moped and i still have it. about the oil, the top screw and the bottom "plug" you saw is the axle for the start mechanism that pushes on the clutch, you take the cover of, lean it to drain it, then fill it back up to the edge of the cover. i have the service manual for it, but its on paper. and you are missing the decompression lever on the cylinder so that probably leaks if someone didnt plug it. Love your Vids man. so relaxing to watch

Ahhh, the smell of 3-in-0ne oil when I was a kid filling up my Sturmey Archer rear geared hub on mu Raleigh Chopper. Great memories.
same here,,used it on my chopper and grifter. was in a tin can though when i was young.
He should take it For a Drive on the Freeway
Three in one oil brings back memories especially the noise the old metal cans made great product
Good ole' John Candy.
I like the motorcycle projects mustie1 does. I hope he does even more because I really enjoy watching them.
I use 3 in 1 as cologne I love the stuff, unless I am going to a guns show then I use Hoppes #9 as cologne.
I use that cheap pep boys stuff personally
Have you noticed that Hoppies #9 smells different now than it did 50 years ago?! It used to keep the no-see-ums away when you were hunting. This new formula has no effect on the skeeters and gnats!...& It's not as strong a scent.
Loving the handlebar tassels Mustie. Easy rider out on your hog, the open road, the wind in your hair and a jacket that says, "if you can read this, my girl must of fallen off" on the back...
MUSTIE MC FOR LIFE BRO!!! ✊✊✊✊
Getting dem sponsors now. 💪💪💪
Your name is awesome.
I guess I'm lame or sumthin
baggins1 indeed you are.
How strange is it that I enjoyed seeing an ad for the old favorite, 3-in-1 Oil? That takes the cake. I hate ads. Even the "ads" are good on your channel, LOL. Thanks.
Literally laughing out loud during your test ride.
Love the way you overtook all that traffic
I did not have "sachs" with that woman !!
this made my day
You should be writing comedy. So funny

Thumbs up for a great video, looks like a quality moped for sure. Also big thumbs up to 3-in-1 oil for helping to keep your videos coming. It's a great product.
Clinton-brand mopeds are rebadged Sachs mopeds from Clinton Engines Co. There was only a single model made, the 50-A. It used a Sachs 505 engine and was only made from 1978 to 1980.
Congrats Mustie on 3in1 Oil sponsorship , good to see a high quality product, (3in1) recognize the potential benefit of an association with another high quality product, (Mustie 1 videos).
When you took off the gas cap and said "smell it?" I sniffed! LOL
357magdad me too 😂
Me too, also, as well and me.
Funny you should say that...whenever he starts up old engines I swear I can smell engine oil...
That's one more thing I like about Mustie...he talks to ya, just like you were there...and his Witt is phenomenal!
I really enjoyed this video.
Reminded me so much of my youth and moped days.
Thank you so much for sharing this.
Im a former Zundapp moped rider from Sweden.
When Mustie took the Clinton out on the road I thought I was on board with a TT rider.
I’m 13 and personally an amateur small enginewrencher myself and find in my opinion there is nothing better than the smell of 3 in 1 and gas in the morning
Watch out for the open mail box Mustie!
3 in one was always used in our home. They must have given you a couple of cases the way your pouring it on. Love your videos, I learn a lot.
I’d happily take that to work every day! That ride was terrifying though, I expected you to come off :p
yep 3 in 1 always takes you back to the good old days it always and still has its own distinct smell that slight oily and detergent smell....happy days
Thanks WD-40 Company for sponsoring Mustie1
As a little guy ( 5 years old ) my Dad gave me a used, rusted peddle car, a pliers and a can of 3in1 oil. He said if I wanted to ride I had to fix it. We were poor but I didn't know it. He taught me a great life lesson with that little car.
"I DID NOT HAVE RELATIONS WITH THAT MOPED"
OH yes u did!
That is what I was thinking the whole time. Good he gave it a good blow - clean out that hole
Hi Mustie. I am a believer in Three and one oil. My Dad let me use it to oil a music box for my Sister, back in the early 60's . i keep at least three bottles in my shop. Great job on the repairs.
Bobby
You got her screaming like a F1 car!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anything you can't fix? Your awesome, keep the videos coming.
French Toast, Coffee and Mustie. What could be better in the morning ?
A sausage/egg/cheese/potato biscuit! You asked, my friend! :-) Chuck in NE Kansas
...and of course Mustie1 and coffee!!
Sounds delicious! What is it exactly? Ryan, UK
You look like a model in that shirt !!!! Thank you for the support
That's a ton of traffic!!!!
Paultro 84 all massive cars too
Everyone's waiting their turn for a Mustie1 signature :)
thought the same thing myself, might of been a funeral
just summer time traffic
I was thinking "it's like he's biked in downtown traffic before" .....LOL!
Mustie, you should have seen me leaning left when I saw that mailbox door open. You are a wildman !
I think I may have Lumi-weld sticks. Wonder if Mustie has any or tried them?
i like the bonus footage at the end with the sailboats! nice touch.
sounds like an air raid siren :)
yeah sure does.. i think the tyre/tire is rubbing the guard/fender
I always loved working on mopeds. If you have compression and spark all you have to do is clean the carb and make sure fuel tank flows. It will run
We have ourselves an OUTLAW!!!
That was my childhood too. 3 in 1 oil used for everything. bike, fishing reels. I had an old puch moped so this one brings back some memories.
Just gonna chuck some oil down that guy. (What oil you gonna use Mustie?) 3 in 1 for all your lubricating needs, bam!
I too love the smell of 3 in 1 oil! One of the first things I bought when I moved over here to Thailand! I use it all the time! The pic of me in my profile photo is on the jungle coaster, up in the mountains outside of Chiang Mai, Thailand about 40 miles from my house!
Their slogan was "you meet the nicest interns on a Clinton"
Kinda impressed with that little old 2-stroker. It's definitely a runner.
3 in 1 oil has always been around forever and it's great stuff ! Is that an L/S Moped, it has a cup holder ?
This video brought back memories for me. my first moped when i was a kid was a crescent 1260 with a Sachs 505 motor. awesome little moped and i still have it. about the oil, the top screw and the bottom "plug" you saw is the axle for the start mechanism that pushes on the clutch, you take the cover of, lean it to drain it, then fill it back up to the edge of the cover. i have the service manual for it, but its on paper. and you are missing the decompression lever on the cylinder so that probably leaks if someone didnt plug it. Love your Vids man. so relaxing to watch
