When I worked on Clark Fork Trucks back in 77-79 In Nashville Tn. All of the trucks came in gas and left propane... Most of there sales were to factories in the area and were in buildings most of the time. The changeover was easy as the truck came wired for both gas and LP. We replaced the carbs an added the heater, hoses, tank bracket and bammm, you have a Propane truck. We left the gas tanks on them and put a locking cap on it... :)
@@mustie1 judging by the teaser you showed at the end of this video... And you saying plan b... I'm guessing you didn't get it to start on propane, lol.
If it will run on propane that would be the easiest way to bring her back to life. Propane doesn't evaporate like gasoline does and it's much safer to use inside a building.
Can’t believe the ramps held the weight... Guess you’ll flip them over to bring-em back. Then the trailer held and you got it home. You’re one lucky dog... Another good find.

There are several levels of genius to what you are showing us. One is the truly vast wealth of mechanical knowledge you demonstrate and teach. But you do something else, too. You demonstrate how to enjoy learning from one's mistakes as you heartily laugh or chuckle at your wrong turns and setbacks. So not only would you win the Nobel prize for tinkering, if they had one, you could add the tag line of #therapy to your video descriptions because that is what they are. I've been watching for awhile and it just struck me how important and significant your laughter is! You laugh because you know intuitively what an over priced university lecturer once overcharged me to tell me : it's not important what you do, it's just important that you do it. You are the Einstein of internal combustion!
Really looking forward to next vid as you bring it back to full functionality - always amazed at how people will let an expensive piece of equipment turn to junk rather than simply fix it or at the very least, clean it, oil it and tarp it until a repair can happen - this is how we pick up stuff dirt cheap so a good thing that there are so many idiots out there providing cheap unmaintained good stuff! Get that next video up!
I work for a large forklift manufacturer in Europe and we sell a lot of trucks to the USA. I instantly recognised the NITCO decal on the Yale and knew it had been sold/leased through Northland. They are one of our dealers as well. :)
@@Ic3MaCc Not so sure, I really don't recognise the rocker cover on this one. Here in the UK I've only seen FE or F2 at this age - Yale, hyster and a few cushion tyre TCM's. May be an E5 (chain OHC) only engine I can find on google with that rocker cover but I've never seen one here in the UK.

I remember jumping on the forklift at work a few times when nobody was around to help. They are fun to play with but I had no idea they weighed that much. No wonder they put a stop to my joy rides. If you paint it and upholster that seat I bet it will bring some decent money. Those things are handy to have around a warehouse.
There's an old popular mechanics article I had years ago about building your own mini forklift. I built one many years back which I mounted on the front of an old lawn tractor. Had to make mini pallets for it but it sure was handy around the yard.
Mustie, I'm pretty new to your channel. I really like your style. Your videos are like hanging out with my cool uncle, the one that seems to know how everything works. Thank you! I am so glad I stumbled upon your channel. I like hangin' out with you.
Old lifts like that are gold, especially low hour ones. Solid, sturdy and very simple. A lot of companies abandon them because the labor charges (and parts scarcity if you do not have connections) make a new one more afforadable (to the bean counters). I deal with Nissans and Toyotas that have ten times that amount of use and are still going strong. Newer lifts have all kinds of wacky computer/electronic controls. Look around for a ~4 ton forklift jack. They sometimes can be very cheap, and are handy for more than forklifts. Lastly, keep up on the chains. You can let everything else leak, but if you lose a chain, that mast is coming down NOW.

Stick a carb on it mustie, there is conversion kits for those.
thats plan b if needed
.. plan c is the 3 cyl diesel engine you got a few months ago ??
Another good find.
my mate clive here in uk is a fork truck mechanic and he says you got a goodun there once fixed and running , they are excellent
Excellent. Can't wait for the next episode. Thanks for the video! Always makes my day when Mustie1 has a new video available for enjoyment.
mustie thats a great buy sir well done and i love the way you just work out the answer keep your vlogs coming sir
This is a great project, right up there with the beaver and the dog pound van! Eagerly waiting on the next instalment.
Oh, and you should have had Brian going "BEEP BEEP BEEP" as you reversed the trailer... :P
Nice to see a forklift video. I have a forklift that I got for free that had a bad starter. I fixed that and now it's been sitting for ten years under cover and I need to resurrect it.
That last shot - I thought you'd put a beer keg on! We normally only get red propane cylinders.
Use the propane to keep the beer cold.
All silver around here....
@@notajp Beer kegs in the UK are all raw aluminium finish. Compressed gases area all different colours. Propane in red, butane in blue. Specialist gasses are have their own colours. And fire extinguishers are also all red but have different shoulders depending on what they have, red for water, black CO2, beige for foam and blue for powder.
But I prefer what's in the silver ones. Especially when served nice and cold. :-)
@@notajp Same here. I have never seen this size of propane tank look anything but raw aluminum.
My uncle used to hold spark plug lead and have you pass him a wrench. Giving a jolt is worth the pain he would say. Thanks mustie great vid, don't change a thing
happy for you, cant get better than that! the best tool to have like a tractor to a farmer. enjoyed your video and have fun...….
I am
I can't wait for this series of videos Mustie.
Happy you are watching out for your back, this lift will save you allot of pain.
I work for a large forklift manufacturer in Europe and we sell a lot of trucks to the USA. I instantly recognised the NITCO decal on the Yale and knew it had been sold/leased through Northland. They are one of our dealers as well. :)
Mid 90's that truck. Should be a mazda engine 👍
@Project Miranda I'm a forklift tech mate, all smaller yale forklifts from early 90's through early 2000's used mazda engines. (gas and diesel).
Just be FE Mazda motor then anything earlier than that would be a VA Mazda motor.
@@Ic3MaCc Not so sure, I really don't recognise the rocker cover on this one. Here in the UK I've only seen FE or F2 at this age - Yale, hyster and a few cushion tyre TCM's.
The VA/UA has a pressed steel rocker cover and is a push rod engine but only ever seen it in XL series hysters (80's - early 90's).
May be an E5 (chain OHC) only engine I can find on google with that rocker cover but I've never seen one here in the UK.
Way to Mustie! I'm jealous. Looks like you found a gem. I think it's about time we do a little modification on the garage opening so we can that rascal in. You will have countless uses for the lift truck...the ultimate back saver! Loved this video!
On this episode of Mustie Towing... Mustie breaks a chain, gets creative and overloads his truck!
Nah, in all seriousness... Nice work 👍 :) Though, I might recommend ya check out Ron Pratt here on TH-cam... He's a towing and recovery extraordinaire, and he might be able to teach ya a thing or two to make it easier in the future ;)
This is one of your more interesting finds. I had no idea that a propane fueled vehicle would run on regular gas. Looking forward to the next!!
The keys in those are pretty universal mustie. You can get one easy at a forklift dealer..if you was close id bring you one of mine👍👍
send it to him COD and some plug wires HUH?????
I rather enjoy how he talks to us while he films, as if we are there with him. It makes his content feel much more relaxed and enjoyable
ahh bloody cliff hanger or what !!!
Im just so amazed..you always make it look so simple..! Love how you know all engines so good..mustie you are da Man..!
I have moved a similar forklift on a trailer and truck and them things are damn heavy.
I don’t think I would move one like that again....
Sketchy ain’t the word
G'day, Mustie! Great Video! Oh, fiddlesticks! (what an amazing cliffhanger) "To Be Continued..." By the way, did you know, a used LP GAS YALE GLP030 Pneumatic Tire 4 Wheels Sit Down Model. Estimated Used Price: $8,950 USD. Including... Reupholstered, & New Paint! Am looking Forward to seeing this Forklift. (Maybe a little Restoration - After sitting outside for about 5 years) Considering the local repair companies couldn't fix it!!
Thank you so much!
Cheers! 😊🛠✌🏼❤️
Make sure the fuels pressure valve is working. ...had one about 20 yrs ago overload and blew a crack in the block.... absolutely SUCKED !
those nissan (datsun) motors are the best thing about old forklifts. super simple engine and plenty of parts and information. nice job, keen for part 2!
Well done :)
This crossover needs to happen.
You showed that "Live Free or Die" attitude dragging that home! Cheers from the Show-me state
PLEASE be careful offloading the forklift off of the trailer. My life would mean nothing without Mustie1.
You need a larger truck if you are going to haul equipment like the forklift.
Cheers
There's an old popular mechanics article I had years ago about building your own mini forklift. I built one many years back which I mounted on the front of an old lawn tractor. Had to make mini pallets for it but it sure was handy around the yard.
Will it run you know it will when you're done with it LOL God bless you
Mustie, I'm pretty new to your channel. I really like your style. Your videos are like hanging out with my cool uncle, the one that seems to know how everything works. Thank you! I am so glad I stumbled upon your channel. I like hangin' out with you.
I’m sure MUSTIE 1 is eyeing that red VW BUG also🚗
that bug belongs to the dude that was standing on the trailer, I think it is his brother.
It's the coolest dude in town, Brian. His channel is
vwnut 1967
They're friends
Old lifts like that are gold, especially low hour ones. Solid, sturdy and very simple. A lot of companies abandon them because the labor charges (and parts scarcity if you do not have connections) make a new one more afforadable (to the bean counters).
I deal with Nissans and Toyotas that have ten times that amount of use and are still going strong.
Newer lifts have all kinds of wacky computer/electronic controls.
Look around for a ~4 ton forklift jack. They sometimes can be very cheap, and are handy for more than forklifts.
Lastly, keep up on the chains. You can let everything else leak, but if you lose a chain, that mast is coming down NOW.
all that stuff and you don't have a portable compressor? harbor freight 65 bucks...love mine...two years now...
Mustie1 you brought back some fond memory's of changing LP tanks, and getting my knuckles frost bitten from escaping gas from the porphin tank.
19:26 did you try to stop the 6000 pounds forklift by hands?
Would have made a $200 flatbed tow worth the price!!!
This is awesome! Mustie1 and a brand new video for my birthday! thanks for all of your entertainment!
