Man I had one almost exactly like this but mine was a 125cc if I remember correctly and she would do 80mph wound right out but it wasn't very safe to do lol because at that speed everything shook and vibrated quite violently on it but it'd do 65mph highway speeds just fine and had some "get-up-n-go" to her for a moped I could grab the front brake, stand up then pin itt and shed sit still and spin the back tire just a rolling smoke and once it got going I could sit back down and it's stay spinning then id let off the brake and take off doing a rolling burnout for like 10ft I loved that lil thing it was like a fat girl- fun as hell to ride but ya didn't want your friends to catch ya on it hahahaha then in Dec of 2008 when we had no snow for a week straight I took it out for a rip around town and had a 73yr old man pull out in front of me and stop and I was doing around 45-50mph couldn't stop but had both wheels locked right up till I t-bones his car which landed me in the hospital for 3 n half months because I shoved 4 ribs through my thoracic aorta (heart) and after multiple surgeries they finally put me back together and my wrist has titanium plates and bolts in it, missing half the muscle of my lower left leg and took me over a year to learn to walk again... thankfully I was able to get a lawyer and unfortunately they didn't fight real hard for me so I ended up getting 90k settlement of which I got 54k sucks because I can't walk or stand for very long and it completely changed how I live my life... I guess I'm just grateful to be alive 🙏
Ya that is what i was going to write it was a mod that most people on scooters do to get more speed and have a but more fun out of there scooters. For him to say that the green wire was the problem was wrong it was that the carb was dirty and not getting enough fuel if any to the engine but you did put it back to stock if you like having it go a minimum speed. Put that green wire back the way it was and you will have more fun with it

correct. I have a BS EE and have done a lot of soldering. I can say if your iron doesnt have temperature control, its a hunk of junk. Doesnt have to be expensive to be goodm even my small all in one inline 65W iron for 20 bucks on amazon works well once broken in.

maybe that wire on the CDI unit was cut to give it more RPM or Top speed. I use to have one of these and enjoyed riding it so much mine could hit a massive 42MPH. great video and I am glad you got it back on the road again.
There is usually a small spacer between the two halves of the variator (front pulley). It stops the two halves closing fully up and serves as a top speed restricter by limiting the effective “high”speed gearing. Remove it and you will have taller gearing and faster top speed. Low speed take off from a standstill is unaffected.
Yep remove the spacer and put a cheap 24mm? Mikuni clone carb off of amazon it and it will do 70mph tops with a 150lb rider on a flat road. My POS 50cc scooter rips lol. Performance Exhaust helps a good bit as well. Remove the EGR restricted exhaust. My next upgrade is 100cc big bore kit. It needs more bottom end torque. It's still pretty darn slow going up hills.
The 3 most common methods of restriction are the variator, the CDI, and also the exhaust. Many times a small restrictor is placed in the exhaust where the manifold bolts to the muffler. It can either be simply placed in there, or is sometimes tack welded in place. Removing that gives the full performance.

As soon as I looked at this scooter, I thought get the old crappy gas out of it before even turning it over. And check to see if there is any oil in it. Those were my first two initial thoughts. The green wire is the rpm restrictor wire, to solder it together had nothing to do with firing this thing up. The spark was uneven on the first check for spark, because the plug wasn't grounded well enough. If the wrong wire had been cut, there would be no spark at all. My own scooter has two restrictors, one for MPH, that cuts the RPM back to 6800 @ 28 mph and if the wind is right, the road is right, you might hit 30. The second actually has a plug connection to be about to remove the cv cover, that limits max rpm to 7200. Its easy to pull out the wire at the cdi, and it can be pushed back in, no damage done. Obviously, unplug the second. This lets the thing free rev to over 9000 rpm, though in riding the bike, it rarely hits 8000, It hovers a lot around 7200 or even less, but the ability to rev lets the cvt close up, then you can pull the throttle back, is why. It hits 8000 or 8200 on long down hill wot. Just riding around town, there is more pull either way, but isn't much difference in power, if to just pull the wire at the cdi or to pull both restrictor wires. But in more open road riding is where the second disconnect is noticed. It can hit near 40 this way. However I have not as yet touched the cvt. haha i have exactly the same scooter model only from 2005. bought the little bugger also for 200 but euros, i did 10.000km on it already and it saved me a lot of money going to work during corona! in fact, it enabled me to work cause i started at crazy hours in morning with no public transport and i had no car nor money. i drove a bigger much newer Sym Fiddle i believe, but this one actually handles better, very small and nimble, and corners very well. I tell you people, as money gets tight and prices go up, get yourself one of these, they're great plus pretty reliable!
To check the condition of the engine, first check the ignition and then the fuel to the intake manifold. If it starts, then carburetor cleaning. The idle jet may be clogged.
I just bought one two week’s ago, it’s amazing how much faster they can be with $80 worth of Amazon parts and it runs unbelievably for a cheap Chinese gy6 engine
Keeping the bikes you like is an investment. Of your time and effort, they are increasing in value , good to see you collect them .. some bikes I have sold are double in value in a short time ...
Might be smart to have something like that on hand with gas prices the way they are. Here in the Lake Tahoe area it's been a steady $5.59 per gallon and it's not even summer yet.
Its fun to listen usa people getting angry about gas prices. Here in finland gallon costs 8.4 euros and its going up all the time. I would love your prices.
Part of the problem here is we didn't have that before all of this political nonsense. None of us should be financing a war we don't want nor padding pockets of the politicians which is what we're doing.
My cheap Grom gets 135 mpg and still enough for left in the tank to get you to a fill up point, and that mpg comes with me ragging it everywhere with aggressive breaking. So maybe if someone if looking for a good fule economic bike with a bit more speed and usability,go get a Grom (either the OG, SF or the newer ones)

Be sure the tires are up to pressure. I rode one identical to that once that was at 15 psi they looked good but no, almost ate shit hard on a turn at the recommended speed.
Just picked up a scrap 60 volt Tao for $250 where buddy kept it out for four years and the batteries expanded because of the cold. And the funny thing is it turns even with the charger plugged in. So I might add a generator. And later make it more of a Liberty motor. The Batman II, more beefed up!
if you wanted to Maybe you could do some research and find Big bore kits in trying to make like a little project out of it. I know when I was younger I had a lot of Yamaha razz and I think like a Yamaha vino and I know they offered Big bore kits for them you'd be surprised you can gain a lot of speed. Not sure if they offer anything for your particular moped though but could be worth looking into as a fun project. Nonetheless keep up the good work love watching your videos you've came a long ways.
I like how you always check for oil after running them lol first thing you should do before checking to see if the motor turns over. But always fun to watch someone else bringing things back to life. Good job buddy keep up the good work.
I just picked up a modified 2022 ruckus a couple weeks ago I’ve put 666 miles on it as of this moment and 6.6 gallons of fuel in which has cost $29.78 if my calculations are correct it comes out to 101 mpg average and $0.0447 per mile which is slightly more then the 2021 Tesla model 3 plus extended range RWD which according to online was the cheapest electric car to operate in 2021 at $0.0308 per mile. I couldn’t find anything for 2022 models. Things a blast I highly recommend getting one to anyone looking at them or interested in anything similar
If you use a torch on the faded plastic it works really good and lasts at least 8 months I did it to my buddies truck on his bumper and then he sold it about 8 months later and it was still the deep black it should be
Not to be that guy but when you solder don’t heat the solder to the iron heat the wire up and put the solder on the hot wire it takes longer but it’s a lot stronger
You should try out SC-1. It’s amazing for cleaning up plastics. It hides all the scratches and gives it a glossy coat. That’s all I use. And it smells awesome.
I'm from Spain, mopeds un Europe are everywhere from 49 to 650cc, people here use them as the daily commute, i know in us no one really commutes un 2 wheels they are mainly for fun. In 49 CC category still to this date the vast majority are 2 strokes, there is also plenty of them tuned with bigger carbs, exhaust even Big bore kits some can get Up to 50 to75mph. 190lbs and 14hp, do the math.
You know you have to heat the wire up with the soldering iron then melt the solder into the wire if the wire isn't hot enough the solder won't even adhere to the wire I don't know what you were doing but it's correct
I hve to watch my kids moped all the time, last time it did 85mph he is only allowed to go 28mph i think that's right. The market to change them is huge.
First one to comment after watching the whole video nice work on that old thing haha, it’s always electrical with those old mopeds, I remember one time all I needed to do to start one was pop in a little battery
My problem with these are just no start at all. I got a 150 I’ve got a new carb cleaned old carb changed eclectic auto choke, has spark, changed the plug as well, changed gas and cleaned air filter, it’s all got proper timing. Idk what’s left 😂
Take a propane torch to the faded black plastic and boom new again lol not quite new but looks good again also a heat gun works well not as quick but can control it easier
Good Job! Picked that up for $200, plus a $50 Battery, and then sell it for $700? $800? Not sure if I would want to travel around using that slow of a machine. 25 to 30 mph is a bit slow as other drivers are quite likely to be traveling a bit faster, which is not fun when on a bike that small. I hate that our National leaders have brought the Country to the point where we are going to need such thrifty Gas Sippers to travel around on, but I am not thinking Gas prices are likely to go down any time soon. Even still, I think I would start looking around for Honda 125's to fix and rebuild. They too are very good on Gas, plus they have enough speed to keep up with city traffic. High ways, not so much. 65 mph with the wind at your back.
check your clutch. maybe there is a limiter installed there too. it schould look like a matel tube kind of thing. a vario limiter. with the cut wire and no limiter you should be able to go faster.
I think with a 120cc engine you could easily do 45 maybe 50 if the wind weren't blowing in your face. Maybe even 60, with nearly the same mileage. With those tiny tires I doubt I would even want 70.

Good old GY6 50cc motor. GY6 engines are plentiful and very strong engines.
Also.Sc-1 is the best on the market for restoring the factory look. They claim a new bike in a can and its a product I stand by. Use it on my fourwheelers and motorcycle all the time.
That's a nice little town ripper. It don't matter if you get seen with it that's a smart idea cause it's great gas mileage to.
I buy fix and sell about 50 mopeds/scooters a year. it's fun to watch someone else work on them lol
I stay away from Chinese scooter though
That green wire Is often cut people think its a rev limiter
I found that if you get the proper air pressure in the tires it goes a little faster
Hi in the uk that ped is a boatian bt49 good little bike it’s downfall is if you leave it out in the rain it’s petrol tank fills with water. The kids cut that wire to the ecu and the wires to the variation case as they think it de restricts them not so sure myself
So close. Mo = motorized ped =pedestrian. Bicycle riders are pedestrians #mopedshavepedals
honestly you makke so much more than the viewer perceives, youve taught me so much about patience and concentration. id just like to thank you for teaching me these key characteristics in life. Joe, youre the man
You can take a torch and lightly heat up the plastic and it will bring out the shine, just don't get it too hot!!
Heat guns crack plastic.
My wife has decided to start riding her V-clic Peugot , she hasnt riden it for 9 years . I kept it going and used it for shopping trips. Its generically the same as the one in the video
haha i have exactly the same scooter model only from 2005. bought the little bugger also for 200 but euros, i did 10.000km on it already and it saved me a lot of money going to work during corona! in fact, it enabled me to work cause i started at crazy hours in morning with no public transport and i had no car nor money. i drove a bigger much newer Sym Fiddle i believe, but this one actually handles better, very small and nimble, and corners very well.
Such prices for gas are wonderful!
Here in europe it is about 9,19$ per Gallone. So, you are a lucky guy.
@@alessiolukas5219 wow
its 4.69 in pa
Its fun to listen usa people getting angry about gas prices. Here in finland gallon costs 8.4 euros and its going up all the time. I would love your prices.
Part of the problem here is we didn't have that before all of this political nonsense. None of us should be financing a war we don't want nor padding pockets of the politicians which is what we're doing.
@@Hanky_Bannist8r same in europe. It's an increase of 30%.
This is what I’m talking about !!!! Keep up the great work
I had a Yamaha Zuma the governor is part of the cdi somebody tried to remove the governor.
Also I quick bit of heat will return the plastic back to new.just don't melt it.
You never said if it was 2 stroke
clearly hear the sound of a 4t and the exhaust is another visual hint of the 4t chinese junk lol
I'm a disabled vet I love those scooters you'll love that scooter too I drove one for all the summer and then I got hit in front of the post office when I got off of it but they're wonderful enjoy your scooter I don't know where you live at but you got a lot more snow than we did here in Missouri
I have owned 3 mopeds in my life and loved them all. People laughed at me while I drove them but when u tell 100mpg they dont. $$$$
Be sure the tires are up to pressure. I rode one identical to that once that was at 15 psi they looked good but no, almost ate shit hard on a turn at the recommended speed.
yeah i rode an icebear that was low and it handled so squishy rerally affected its top speed to.
Love your videos so relaxing.
I have zero interest in mopeds, but I love watching you work. In my book, you're the best. I've learned so much from you. Thanks man
Just picked up a scrap 60 volt Tao for $250 where buddy kept it out for four years and the batteries expanded because of the cold. And the funny thing is it turns even with the charger plugged in. So I might add a generator. And later make it more of a Liberty motor. The Batman II, more beefed up!
Use 60v dewalt batteries or even several 20v in series and parallel
if you wanted to Maybe you could do some research and find Big bore kits in trying to make like a little project out of it.
I was gonna say they cut the wire for a reason to get more speed but awesome videos keep it up
That green cable going to your CDI is the Revlimiter cable it’s like a governor that’s why they cut it has nothing to do with your spark
I like how you always check for oil after running them lol first thing you should do before checking to see if the motor turns over. But always fun to watch someone else bringing things back to life. Good job buddy keep up the good work.
You should do a performance build on this I been watching other videos were they have been getting very good results.
Modified, so it has a gy6 instead of the stock GET engine ?
Cut the wire again and take the restrictor out of the exhaust!
Pledge "Reviv it" works great on dull plastics too!
If you use a torch on the faded plastic it works really good and lasts at least 8 months I did it to my buddies truck on his bumper and then he sold it about 8 months later and it was still the deep black it should be
my man is just a walking W
In those engines loads of speed limiters , like wires on ecu , or stuff under belt cover where is a clutch, anyway loads of speed limiters. :)
Always check oil level before (trying to) starting 🤦🏽♂️ green wire, I agree, overriding the speed limiter, otherwise another fab video
That scooter looks and runs great nice job.
serious? it looks like a scooter from 25 years ago...also its a cheap chinese scooter...break down a lot...doesnt even have a front disk brake....
@@maikelpeeters7328 those things are pretty much bulletproof
Not to be that guy but when you solder don’t heat the solder to the iron heat the wire up and put the solder on the hot wire it takes longer but it’s a lot stronger
You should try out SC-1. It’s amazing for cleaning up plastics. It hides all the scratches and gives it a glossy coat. That’s all I use. And it smells awesome.
maybe they cut the wire because it was rev limiter etc. I remember cutting some wires from cdi on scoorets to bypass revlimiter. just guessing.
Your a great technician and your camera is always in the best spot for us to see. Are you in Michigan
i might need one of thoes with gasolie in canada at $1.70 a liter keep up the good work
An excellent buy. (2,000 miles over 9 years? Not even 5 miles per week)... Cost to put it back on the road? Some carb cleaner...
You know you have to heat the wire up with the soldering iron then melt the solder into the wire if the wire isn't hot enough the solder won't even adhere to the wire I don't know what you were doing but it's correct
You can use a Hot paintstripper for the black surfaces
Well you please do an update video on the cheap big bore 400ex
I hve to watch my kids moped all the time, last time it did 85mph he is only allowed to go 28mph i think that's right. The market to change them is huge.
I see it pretty often, people want to call these mopeds. They aren't. They are scooters. A mopeds has pedals, a scooter doesn't.
I was 14 years old and had the same scooter, drove it all around Florida and New York! So memorable for me … but
Best way to make plastic like new is little heat works great

That wire cut on the cdi is the governor it makes it slower
The gass is shot. Just gotten a ZX6R fuel was like that and would run sometimes but very lumpy. Fresh gass and runs a dream
Easy way to check is the bulbs 12 or 6 volts on foreign machines info sometimes scrubbed off the battery👍
use a blow torch over faded black plastic it brings it back to new
My problem with these are just no start at all.
65 mph with the wind at your back.
you might want to check the cvt too. belt, TD, pulley, rollers, etc...
check your clutch. maybe there is a limiter installed there too. it schould look like a matel tube kind of thing. a vario limiter. with the cut wire and no limiter you should be able to go faster.
I like the color you will have a blast in the summer time with it
I just bought a VIP scooter in good shape for a $100 and all it needs is a battery, a starter switch, the front brakes cleaned and bleed.
they cut the wire to de restrict it if my memory serves me right
did ya make a batt. box cover be for you put the rug back?????
I bought a Piaggio Zip 50 for 50€ with no spark, I bought a new ignition coil for 37€ at the dealership and worked fine. sell it for 300€
That wire is probably the governor if I had to guess. Usually a pink or purple wire though
I think with a 120cc engine you could easily do 45 maybe 50 if the wind weren't blowing in your face. Maybe even 60, with nearly the same mileage. With those tiny tires I doubt I would even want 70.
Get the heat gun on the faded black plastics
Might be cool to do it up with vinyls like an old suzuki or yamaha with the yellow
2 more hours I finish night shift then I can’t wait to watch this , YAHTZEE !! 😂😂❤️❤️👍🏼👍🏼
did you finish

Was the auto petrol cut off working good. This can stop it firing. ??. I know im 10 months late but just started watching your feeds. Keep it up ok.
