That relluctor wheel doesn't fire the injectors , it's used to give spark at/near TDC.....you didn't have to remove all that, just the valve covers and upper timing covers.
We bought a non running HSE. I took it apart and found a broken piston ring that had carved the cylinder. Got it running on the first try using cobalt tools. Erheart range rover were amazed about how I took it apart without what taking the frontend apart. They were shocked when I told them I made it ran the jag was a stupendous engine to work on
It's called a CAMSHAFT Gear/ Sprocket or known as a Cam Phaser. The previous Mechanic did not Torque the Cam Phaser Bolt to the manufacturers specifications.
u can change the guides without the tools ive done it i worked for south bad land rover in redondo beach. that relucter wheel coming loose is common. the guy who did the job before if he would.of left the nut loose that car wouldnt start. the phaser breakd internally and thats what loosens the left threaded nut

It’s the Vanos Impulse wheel and it’s used to advance or retard the camshaft.
