@luisgiraldo8848 There are certain scenarios where I actually prefer the carbine over the m1. If I'm fighting mostly mid range with some close range engagements. You nailed it with the whole thing about bolt vs semi/smgs, there's really no reason for anyone to use a rilfe unless for very specific things such as completely open map and stopping power over distance. The subs are absolutely capable of headshoting anything at almost any distance. For me this is basically bad design, subs should be reliable and outstanding weapons up to 60mts, after that dispersion should make them unreliable enough that you'd be forced to make a concious decision as to what to carry with you. As it stands now the "skilled" player has no real reason to opt between one of the other.
Well, the "option" becomes stuff like "do I use MP40 and satchel or use the bazooka?". Or being limited to the kar98 if you want to build stuff as engineer or deploy an AT gun. Same for Engineer loadouts. Or Allied Assault. Do I BAR, Thompson or get stuck with Grease Gun BUT GLORIOUS SATCHEL OMG IT'S SO BRIGHT!!!
In real life SMGs will absolutely take someone out even at 100 yards… wikipedia has the REAL TOMMY GUN’s effective range at 150meters and the MP40 had an effective range from 100-200m. The modern day MP5 has the same effective range from about 100-200meters. I myself own a few firearms and have shot a friend’s P90 PDW (modern Sub machine gun equipment) and 100meters is easy to hit a man sized target in the head and chest region especially when using a rest. Handguns like the 1911 had an effective range up to 50 meters.
@@cramsa Those effective ranges are done while the firearm is supported and shooting at nice clear targets on a shooting range. The second you shoot the gun unsupported in combat conditions the effective range drops drastically, Smgs are really only good out to around 50 yards in real conditions. So the effective range is a little further and it still only goes out around 200 meters. It’s a weapon designed for 2nd line NATO soldiers to have the ability to penetrate Soviet body armor. And 50 yards is way to long to be taking shots with a handgun, irl handguns are probably the hardest type of firearm to shoot accurately. If you’ve ever shot one you’d be surprised how easily it is to miss something even 10 yards away. In combat you probably aren’t hitting anything past 20 yards and that’s being generous. It’s why after ww1 the US developed the m1 carbine, mortar men and artillery soldiers were only given 1911s and when someone was shooting you beyond a close quarter distance there was nothing you could do.
I wish this game had ballistics based on calibers like insurgency sandstorm. Helps with the immersion if you know anything about guns. I get game balancing, but we are already playing a game that sacrifices gameplay for realism.
Personally, I actually like using the pistols! As MG I find them more versatile at close to mid range since they don’t require mounting to ADS. That said, I completely agree with where they are on the list.
I think the bar personally for me is a bit of a beast. It acts as a really solid reliable dmr with the capality to panick spray if you have to. But alot of it comes down to it feeling really good for me
DP-27 should be able to be fired without bipod, and the PPSH-41 should have semi auto select fire. (it did have select fire, but maybe the PPSH-41 would be overpowered with that)
The grease guns ability to headshot is because it's design is based on balance. The fire rate isn't super high, it's more metered, and the damage is balanced. The grease gun is, to me at least, a solid weapon and im glad it got put in, even though it doesn't spit rounds like the Thompson.
From what I've experienced, I would say you're pretty spot on Mono. If they ever added a scope to the StG 44, that would be crazy! Off topic, I think it would be fun if they let servers do American versus Soviet. Not historically accurate, but Company of Heroes 2 let people do it.
The thing is everyone would use the scope, it would just make it kind of unrealistic imo, as most stg’s used by the germans would’ve just been the standard versions. Just like having drum mags on thompsons
I agreed with you up until the m1 garand. Personally I think it has the best sights in the game, with the exception of scoped weapons of course, especially for hitting moving targets at range. I think it also has the highest velocity of the 3 rifles if I remember correctly, and perhaps I am a little biased because it is my favorite weapon. Im great with the gewer as well, and the svt ranks below those two because of the more busy sight picture for me personally, but with all things it does come down to personal preference as well. Also, mg42 I would put in the a tier. Its situationally good but the problem with it is the same problem with all the other mgs, that they are immobile and tend to get head shotted once in use. Still good list man.
Idk why but it seems like there way less recoil in this video than what I experience. The garand is almost unusable for me, it kicks so high and getting it back on target is difficult.
whenever I was unlocking my level 6 rifleman, the carbine was the way to go for me. It's just so much better in close quarters than the Garand, and it has so much less recoil to the point where the 2 shot kills don't matter. Just spam it and it's surprisingly effective.
I actually used all the weapons and I think by far the S+ would have to be the mp40 at least for console, I have level 10 maxed out assault and although I use the stg anytime I'm on German team I always debate going mp40, am I the only one that uses the stg as a semi from mid to long and auto for only very close quarters? I need to also get used to pistols because they are my least favorite, so much kickback recoil. (I play one console so controlling recoil is a bit more difficult)
but i find the german counterparts to be the most fun cept for the grease gun because looking at what seems like a pipe that was been welded shut at the back is funny to me
I never understood why they make muzzle flash so big in games like if you’ve ever shot a gun in real life even pistols you don’t typically get hardly any muzzle flash and if you do it’s gone so fast you don’t even see it most of the time. In the daytime muzzle flash is almost invisible it’s really only potentially blinding at night. Recoil on a lot of guns is also massively over exaggerated like the ppsh for example the 7.62 Tokarev cartridge has almost no recoil but in game the ppsh always goes everywhere.
Just purchased HLL (for PS5 - I know, I know…). After having watched about four hours of tutorial videos before jumping in, I’ve come to the conclusion that having a general understanding of military history and tactical/strategic concepts is a huge advantage. Also, Mono’s videos are great!
The ranking is as a whole really solid, only thing is all the rankings are only taking into account 1v1 kills. An officer with the ppsh can suppress half a squad on his own while the rest of the squad get the kills with nagants, each weapon has a use outside of kills but yes this relies on having a squad working together.
The M1 carbine is beast once you get used to it. The iron sights make headshots so easy and you can spit rounds out as fast as you can pull the trigger but great list👍🏼
I take it a certain semi-auto rifle was excluded because of its anti-tank status... And the penchant for it's users to literally split enemy players in half like a watermelon :)
The Soviet rifle has slow bullet speed even in sniper scoop except the Mosin 1891 and the British long rifle when doing bolt action the sight has most steadily then other bolt action rifle.
Last Patch they fixed so many bugs with the sniper scope of the FG42 and now it's laser accurate and has no recoil, but sometimes it's not a one shot kill. Still i think the scoped variant is god tier. Don't know about the iron sights on the normal FG42.
Would have been really useful to state which class/faction these all came under and maybe a picture of the graphic, the ps5 version at least doesn't give the names in the loadout screen
Thank you for all the helpfull content you have made. I have lost track on have many videos i have watched. But it have improved my game experience. I'm playing the closed beta on ps5. And its a shame the coms is so poor on consolle players. Maybe possible to find groups of players after the game releases later. Keep on doing your great work and share your amazing great content with us 😊 it is really a pleasure to watch and learn from you
I think this is the game when you are an experienced and good player doesnt really matter what primary weapon you are using personally i can manage myself wiht every gun just fine
German assault is the way. Get G43 to start, then at lv 6 you get G43 and all the nades. I really need to get lv 6 rifleman to unlock G43 for that but lv 9 assault with an MP44 is too tempting.
hard disagree on the DP27.....it's speed of reload is WAY faster than any of the belt fed MG's sights are decent enough for most uses, and mag size is enough for covering fire especially with the quick reloads, great content though
They should take the grease gun out of assault and put the Thompson in, and then have BAR as the primary weapon for the Grenadier class, that would be perfect and better
Funnily enough, I play best with a bolt-action since I know I have to make the shots count. With Semi-auto rifles and automatic weapons my aim is a lot more sloppy.
I'd argue for the dp easy to stay on target good range hip fire is good close range just gotta know how to use it maybe I've just played enough red orchestra and other ww2 with it to feel just at home with it
@@monoespacial That's a bummer imo. I LOVE the k98k, after truly hating it at the beginning. Did you test out how long the one shot kill range to the body is?
I dunno why people say they prefer the sights on the G43 over the sights on the M1 Garand. Personally, I prefer the Garand's sights - the G43 sights are so small - its literally like a needle. Garand sights are larger and easier to line up (imo) I do agree that the G43 has a better recoil though.
when i first started this game i played only with the bolt actions. not on purpose or anything i just thought that was normal and everyone had bolt actions. yeah I got destroyed
Ever ran into a garrison or OP with a bolt action and had the team spawn? Or even just 2 guys? Also there is literally no advantage for running with a kar98 instead of a G43. Except maybe for bullet drop.
@@MyLostToys What I mean is that when you are destroying enemy spawn points, which is something everyone should strive for, the bolt actions are a death sentence.
@Parker Dunlop it's not just the medics. Riflemen, At players, support players and squad leaders that need smoke grenades all get it depending on the loadout they pick.
I'm starting to think the MP40 is just the best SMG in the game at first I used to like the thompson and the ppsh more but over time I just really appreciate how good the MP40 is at range and most of the engagements you participate in with smg's usually are at the 50-100 meter mark. I didn't see you rate the sniper rifles or the FG-42 in this video though. I was excited when I unlocked the FG42 it's a really cool fun weapon I don't think it's as good as the STG44 but it's up there.
G43 is so fun to use, I wish the game had stat tracking to see how many kills I have with that. The plus side of the Garand is that everyone can get one, so a US squad can do some serious mid to long range damage with those. They really need to fix the recoil on the Carbine and the Grease gun, at present there is zero reason to use them unless you want the engineer satchel or the support with the ammo crates.
Would be cool to see how long it would take for the mg42 to kill a team (50ppl) that is standing in a row. Thought of this when you talked about the mg42 at the end.
there's no argument for historical accuracy, if anything there should be more SVT-40s available since 1.6 million were produced. For comparison both G43 and STG-44 each had only 400,000 rifles produced.
I don't get this comparison to be honest as every weapon is tied to your role in the squad or the faction you are playing. So most of the times you can't choose you weapon anyway and you have to live with it.
Choosing which class to play is a decision mostly informed by weapon choice when it comes down to choosing between stuff like Rifleman, Assault or Automatic Rifleman. Especially when playing Allied, I will often choose rifleman just due to the garand instead of playing Grenadier (Thompson + many grenades) for example.
I dont find the firerate of the MG42 to be that useful. You only get 6 mags, 4 less than the MG34. If you're competent gunner, you will notice running out of ammo early on a good streak. Plus the violent screen shake make bursting mandatory, which is just soo much better on the M1919. I think the MG 42 js just better suited for close support of infantry - not exactly the thing that shuts down a flank for 15 minutes under good conditions
MG42 go BRRRR. The MG42 is just completely overwhelming when you're on the receiving end. You can even melt a truck that's passing by with a few seconds of hit fire. The volume of fire simply has no comparison. The "bursting mandatory" I really don't get. The screen shake doesn't really matter since you are pumping so many rounds, accuracy is barely a concern.
@@monoespacial The volume if fire is limited then again by a 75/100 round mag (Im not sure). By the same token any MG can rip up passing trucks, which really might be the only time where the MG42's dps comes into play - and then again it maybe amounts to one second difference at max, Ill take that chance. The low mag count on the MG42 is just contradictory to the volume of fire. I much rather have a sustained rate of fire with the 300 to 600 more rounds you get with the M1919 or MG34. With both MGs you can reliably kill at around 150 metres or even more, if one puts the time in. Accuracy is a great concern for me, as I said, Im locking down flanks, not supporting surrounding infantry. The bursting of MGs is official military doctrine and HLL actually is a place where this tactic applies very well. One shot of a rifle completely blurs your vision on a near miss, imagine 3-5 near misses. I dont get the hosing mentality other than in emergencies.
@@N.Eismann you get 6 mags of 250 rounds each for the MG42. Also, a coordinated squad will have riflemen and/or support players ordered to supply ammo, if not even proactively doing so. also, to spread some fun: th-cam.com/video/gFLF300I0ps/w-d-xo.html
"The bursting of MGs is official military doctrine and HLL actually is a place where this tactic applies very well". Dude, I don't think you realize bursting is done, amongst other things, to prevent the weapon from overheating. There is no such mechanic in HLL. You can fully control a full auto MG42 with 0 effort in HLL, and running out of bullets is definitely a problem that ranks way lower on the list than "I got headshotted because every weapon is super accurate at any range". Also, you're way off on the bullets/mag.
Hands up if you think that US troops should have the M2 Carbine select fire! It would balance the whole STG44 thing but on the the other end of the battlefield nicely. The steady thump of the STG44 vs. the M2's 1200rpm can of kickass.
M2s didn't make it to the European battlefield in WWII, but some were fielded at the end of the Pacific Campaign. So maybe it will make an appearance when they release the Japanese expansion.
from what ive understood, the devs have said they will have 4 updates this year. of those there will be british forces, paid dlc, and meta/content chage patches. they've also said that they will never split the player base by locking people out of maps. to me this sounds like the paid dlc will not be the british forces, but something else. most likely more cosmetics. i think paid british forces is just people assuming that they will charge for what will most likely be the largest patch, and not what the devs are actually saying.
I disagree about the M1 Carbine. The fact that its a 2 shot further out isnt a big deal to me, it has barely any recoil and Id rather take it over an SMG thats basically useless at range. I cant tell you how many times Ive won fights vs SMGs even after they land a shot on me because I had a rifle and I just one shot them. Then if youre at further range where they have to hit you like 4 times, its a wrap.

I think the bar personally for me is a bit of a beast. It acts as a really solid reliable dmr with the capality to panick spray if you have to. But alot of it comes down to it feeling really good for me
At the end of the day it is mono's opinion about the guns..we all have our own preferences
No! How DARE you have your own opinion!!!!??? IT MAKES ME SO MAD!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DP-27 should be able to be fired without bipod, and the PPSH-41 should have semi auto select fire. (it did have select fire, but maybe the PPSH-41 would be overpowered with that)
Why should the dp be fired without a bipod?
G43 is by far my favourite gun. Its a powerhouse
Yup, G43 is awesome.
I use it as a poor man’s sniper rifle at medium ranges… it drops the enemy like a sack of potatoes.
G43 is mega. It makes the officer class incredibly powerful for the Germans!
If the tokarev have better sights it would be right up there too
The grease guns ability to headshot is because it's design is based on balance. The fire rate isn't super high, it's more metered, and the damage is balanced. The grease gun is, to me at least, a solid weapon and im glad it got put in, even though it doesn't spit rounds like the Thompson.
One thing that I appreciate is they didn't go over board with the realistic recoil.
The grease gun claps due to its ability to stay in the fight longer, just like the stg having a low rate of fire and 30 rounds.
They could create a map somewhere in Germany/(maybe Berlin) for Operation Unthinkable.
Love the m1 garand as well sooo satisfying
Idk why but it seems like there way less recoil in this video than what I experience. The garand is almost unusable for me, it kicks so high and getting it back on target is difficult.
whenever I was unlocking my level 6 rifleman, the carbine was the way to go for me. It's just so much better in close quarters than the Garand, and it has so much less recoil to the point where the 2 shot kills don't matter. Just spam it and it's surprisingly effective.
How would you rank the FG42?
3:35 lol I can imagine a soviet soldier saying this
Don't be sleeping on the grease gun!
The stg was a pretty rare weapon to see in ww2 wasnt mass produced and was only used by top ranking military members
despite the fact that you might be using an inferior gun it doesnt change the fact that it can still be fun to use.
but i find the german counterparts to be the most fun cept for the grease gun because looking at what seems like a pipe that was been welded shut at the back is funny to me
I never understood why they make muzzle flash so big in games like if you’ve ever shot a gun in real life even pistols you don’t typically get hardly any muzzle flash and if you do it’s gone so fast you don’t even see it most of the time. In the daytime muzzle flash is almost invisible it’s really only potentially blinding at night. Recoil on a lot of guns is also massively over exaggerated like the ppsh for example the 7.62 Tokarev cartridge has almost no recoil but in game the ppsh always goes everywhere.
Try the one with the stick magazine it has less recoil than the drum.
It doesnt i was talking bullshit
M1 carbine is my favorite, I always end up liking jack of all trades master of none weapons. Never useless in any scenario
I know this is 2 years old, but what about my trench gun?
I love turning enemies into bloody messes with it.
I'd have to agree with you here.
STG44 is an absolute beast.
It's so sad viewing this when bolt action rifles was one of the main reasons to start playing this game :D
Bolt make less hit marker on longer range.
The iron sights make headshots so easy and you can spit rounds out as fast as you can pull the trigger but great list👍🏼
actually the 35 mag ppsh is very accurate if you dont zoom in on ads
You think the magazine size really matters? Shouldn't it be the way you fire it?
@@ImperialGit at least it feels to me this way, that the mag ppsh shoots more accurate if you dont hold your breath than the drum ppsh
Lets see how the fg42 and trench gun will rank
Waiting for the devs to release the PPS smg for the soviets...
@@thomaskole9881 yeah, they shouldn't make mag ppsh and make pps instead of this one leaves us between pps and drum ppsh
Probably be extremely powerful especially if there will be a scoped variant
Last Patch they fixed so many bugs with the sniper scope of the FG42 and now it's laser accurate and has no recoil, but sometimes it's not a one shot kill. Still i think the scoped variant is god tier. Don't know about the iron sights on the normal FG42.
Wow the enemies from these clips miss shots?!amazing
Would have been really useful to state which class/faction these all came under and maybe a picture of the graphic, the ps5 version at least doesn't give the names in the loadout screen
Buenos vídeo Bro
Thank you for all the helpfull content you have made. I have lost track on have many videos i have watched. But it have improved my game experience. I'm playing the closed beta on ps5. And its a shame the coms is so poor on consolle players. Maybe possible to find groups of players after the game releases later.
Keep on doing your great work and share your amazing great content with us 😊 it is really a pleasure to watch and learn from you
My guy has background music from "Into The Breach you earned my sub!
Yes! Amazing game! I'm a big FFT fan and Into the Breach is up there with it as one of the best strategy games ever made.
+1 for the Into the Breach music
What about FG-42? I enjoy it very much.
Another helpful upload, appreciate the work Mono 🥃
No problem 👍
I think this is the game when you are an experienced and good player doesnt really matter what primary weapon you are using personally i can manage myself wiht every gun just fine
This is why I leveled Rifleman first - gotta get that third unlock.
German assault is the way. Get G43 to start, then at lv 6 you get G43 and all the nades. I really need to get lv 6 rifleman to unlock G43 for that but lv 9 assault with an MP44 is too tempting.
Go Rifleman/Assault. Get an engineer to drop blueprints. Hammer them into existence. XP FOR DAYS
@@monoespacial Still such a grind for XP in this game. It gets so tiring.
How do I get the fps counter in the top right?
Who's got love for the Dp-27! One of my favorite guns in the game
You forget the Grease gun also has the highest damage and range of the smgs.
I have the same headshot mystery with the MG-42. It just happens and idk why
Used them all my top 3: 1. Shotgun, 2. M1 Grande, 3. MP
The nagant revolver belongs to the depths of hades.
Thanks for the list. Please explain footage @14:19. Cheers
hard disagree on the DP27.....it's speed of reload is WAY faster than any of the belt fed MG's sights are decent enough for most uses, and mag size is enough for covering fire especially with the quick reloads, great content though
@Parker Dunlop not when you reload at least 2-3x faster than every other MG in the game
I'm with you on that one, I always have tons of fun with it. It's noticeably different from the other MG's but I've not really found it to be worse.
I found that the ppsh with the drum is far worse than the stick mag. It has more recoil and feels less accurate for some reason
They should take the grease gun out of assault and put the Thompson in, and then have BAR as the primary weapon for the Grenadier class, that would be perfect and better
i just run m1 grand , gewer , and the svt40 just cant pass on the 1 tap lol
Do you have to be a certain level to get the mg itself
Funnily enough, I play best with a bolt-action since I know I have to make the shots count. With Semi-auto rifles and automatic weapons my aim is a lot more sloppy.
Makes a lot of sense
how ye all doing
I'd argue for the dp easy to stay on target good range hip fire is good close range just gotta know how to use it maybe I've just played enough red orchestra and other ww2 with it to feel just at home with it
Sometimes I like using the bolt action rifles just because of the bolt action itself.
Yes, bolt actions are very satisfying.
My favourites are the M1 Garand, G43 and SVT-40
Thx mate!
By the way : you can't shoot through the front window of the american truck 0:55
imo the thompson is op. I've sniped so many germans from waaaay too far with it. It is an absolute beast
Are you certain that a G43 has the same stopping power as a Kar98k? I assumed the Kar98k has a longer 1 shot kill range.
I thought so too, but no, they are the same
@@monoespacial That's a bummer imo. I LOVE the k98k, after truly hating it at the beginning. Did you test out how long the one shot kill range to the body is?
@@patrickbateman7444 Hey Patrick! I was your SL on Kursk on the server exodus yesterday , funny to see you again!
Man my fave gun the damn m1 garand I tried automatic rifleman but idk that my my baby
I honestly am better with the bolt actions than I am with any of the smgs
I think the bolt action rifles are boss because most of the fights are between 50 to 200 feet.
Ever ran into a garrison or OP with a bolt action and had the team spawn? Or even just 2 guys?
Also there is literally no advantage for running with a kar98 instead of a G43. Except maybe for bullet drop.
@@monoespacial My apologizes I don’t understand the two questions...
@@MyLostToys What I mean is that when you are destroying enemy spawn points, which is something everyone should strive for, the bolt actions are a death sentence.
@@monoespacial Ok I’m on Xbox and I really hope HLL Makes it to Xbox by end of the year because a hardcore WW2 shooter on console is what we need.
@Parker Dunlop it's not just the medics. Riflemen, At players, support players and squad leaders that need smoke grenades all get it depending on the loadout they pick.
2 years later and we still don’t have select fire for guns that should have it.
Yea the Carbine should be balanced by heavily reduced recoil - which would also make sense given the smaller caliber and damage.
Would be way to OP in my opinion
The first assault rifle fielded and used in combat is one of the best weapons in the game? Who knew? Great video though
What graphicsgard u use?
3080 with an I7-12700
@@monoespacial Funny, i have same gard/AMD Ryzen 9 5900X and yours graphics quality looks so much better than my,
I would swap the garand with the mg42. Otherwise spot on.
I have tried so hard to get used to the stg but my accuracy with it is just comical.
How is zooming even more in on left click?
Left shift
Im pretty sure the G43 is not a 1SK at 200m.
Would be cool to see how long it would take for the mg42 to kill a team (50ppl) that is standing in a row. Thought of this when you talked about the mg42 at the end.
Probably as fast as you can swing the mouse from one side to the other of a line of 50 people while still maintaining accuracy.
i dont get why soviet assault class doesnt have the SVT as an option, is it for historical accuracy?
there's no argument for historical accuracy, if anything there should be more SVT-40s available since 1.6 million were produced.
Mg goes brrrrrrrt. DAKKA make me happy.
Into the Breach soundtrack? Love it.
Yes! Best strategy game after FFT!
I agree with you 100%, Germans really have the best guns while Russians have the worst (except SVT40 ofc).
Why isn't the shovel/knife weapon included in the list?
Big oversight. Time to re do the entire video.
Hey Mono any word on the paid DLC for British forces?
from what ive understood, the devs have said they will have 4 updates this year. of those there will be british forces, paid dlc, and meta/content chage patches. they've also said that they will never split the player base by locking people out of maps. to me this sounds like the paid dlc will not be the british forces, but something else. most likely more cosmetics. i think paid british forces is just people assuming that they will charge for what will most likely be the largest patch, and not what the devs are actually saying.
@@romulus304 thanks dude
I disagree about the M1 Carbine. The fact that its a 2 shot further out isnt a big deal to me, it has barely any recoil and Id rather take it over an SMG thats basically useless at range. I cant tell you how many times Ive won fights vs SMGs even after they land a shot on me because I had a rifle and I just one shot them. Then if youre at further range where they have to hit you like 4 times, its a wrap.
Should have waited for the trench gun 😄
How is this compared to enlisted?
Less janky, better movement and gunplay. Way more unforgiving and you NEED to communicate and use voip to have a good time.
should add the maxim as a deployable gun by the engineer
You can see in the roadmap that they will add deployable heavy machine guns

Is recoil turned off for online videos?? i can tell you my game doesn’t play like this!
Are you on console? Recoil for some weapons was changed in update 11 on PC, but for the most part... This is just me controlling recoil.
