Can you remake Super Mario Bros in Super Mario Maker 2? I can't believe I actually attempted this but I did. In total this took around 20-30 hours to complete over 4 days. I am going insane. Help me.

I beat every remake level without a death. After that I played the original and I died 3 times in world 1. Funny how the physics can change the difficulty.

My guess: their new corruption detection system automatically deletes levels with overlapping solid blocks and they didn't want to add an exception for pipes so they just removed pipe overlap instead

7-4 is a pretty long one, sure, but I like the idea of hinting at the correct pathway using statues and other background elements. It's something I honestly don't really see anyone else do!
While we're adding bullet bills without blasters, let's add bonzai bill blasters.

I saw an interview (I can't remember the source) where one of the devs said there was a lot of debate early in production on whether to have different physics on all the SMM1 styles. It was voted down to keep things simple for the devs and players.
@@tbirddddd wait they all had the same physics? Wow. No wonder they originally had wall jumps and ground pounds for all styles (the sprites exist.)
@@MrGamelover23 Not quite what I meant. The basic jumping/bouncing physics are based on NSMB for all styles. Some wanted to emulate the proper jumping and bouncing for SMB, SMB3, and SMW.

For 1-2 you should’ve made the tracks loop so if when the lift goes down, it then moves over to the other track and moves up
I was going to say how you can recreate it with thwomps on top of doughnut blocks, but this is an even better idea, since it works both up and down.
If you mean putting multiple lifts on the tracks to make it work like in the base game, it sadly doesn't work. The lifts don't all load at the same time while you play, so by the time you reach that part they will be all over the place, it doesn't look good and doesn't feel right
You could loop the lifts in 1.2 with offscreen tracks

I do wish they’d let us have three sub-areas, though (or, to prevent levels from being excessively long, just let us separate the single sub-area into two smaller ones with two different themes).

As someone who tried to remix SMB1 levels but stay faithful to the layout back in MM1, it was oddly satisfying seeing you run into the same problems I did, _especially_ the looping paths in the later x-4 levels.

He can’t make springs that shoot you five million miles into the air, also "pray you land in the right spot to not die" was bs
The main issue is the poison mushrooms, which can only be used in the Ground night theme.
If I were him, I’d just put a spiny in those question blocks so that he can use multiple themes.
Wind levels would also need to take place at night in the desert theme, and would have wind in sections that didn’t have wind in the original.
At the very least, we can see what a 7-3 and 8-3 remake would look like.

They're called "One way doors" by the way.
They should really add more sub areas, "turnable" pipes, pipes that go to other parts of the same area, and level clears that happen as soon as you meet the condition rather than going to the end (i.e. beating a specified boss in a castle stage).
Also, it should be set up to where if you specify an enemy as the level's boss, then the game automatically gives it more health to where it needs 3 hits to kill (aside from Bowser, who can't be touched).

Truly amazing work!. This is probably one of the most impressive projects i've seen in MM2 so far. I have started my own project called Super Mario Bros HD in Mario Maker 2, where i recreate Super Mario Bros but in the New Super Mario Bros U style cause i thought that would be a cool twist on the whole mario maker remake ideas. It took me almost a hour just to finish W1-1. The time that went into this project must have been alot. Truly impressive work for sure

I imagine most of the 1-1 recreations are a way to get to grips with the tools. It's easier to learn how to turn ideas into levels of the ideas already exist :P
Plus is can be used as a gimmick too, I made a 1-1 level where you if you play normally in the overworld you come to an impassible wall. The real level is a massive vertical stage that you bomb into though the bonus room.

Just played and dropped a like on all 34 of your current courses. Valiant effort on the SMB1 recreation given the constraints. 8-4 took me over a dozen tries. Very good work overall. I'm sure it was frustrating and time-consuming.

fun fact: every bonus room in the original super mario bros. on the nes (and probably the same can be said for the all-stars remake) is contained in the same level. if you remove the scroll stop and use a cheat to walk through walls you can reach other areas.
Solution to the 1-2 lift problem: put tracks off the edge of the screen so the lifts will move in a circle
You should remake all of Lost Levels. World 1 through D.

I actually did this a couple weeks back too. But I tried to combine 2 levels together instead. I made 1-1 and 1-2 combined together so that you can have the sub areas in 1-2 underground. I just made a pipe go to the overworks and then take you back to the underground in the correct way.

You can't put other items in cannons so although it would function in this one instance, one block high blasters would still be a cool addition

Mayro: I was considering adding a coin block so the big Goomba could never respawn, but I decided it would be better to prioritize the level's main layout over LITERALLY half a tile, so the Goombas sadly had to stay wrong.

One thing you didn't even mention that is missing in MM2 in your video, what about the underwater vertical flowing/sucking water?
I mean, most players avoided those areas because of the insane button mashing necessary to get back out, and the only reason to go into them was for a few extra coins, but they are still a mechanic that is completely missing.

I remade this in super mario maker 1 with some of the issues like the bonus levels being on ground. I used the dark semi solids to make it as close as possible to being underground

@2:56 - how I did that in my W1-2 remake in SMM1 was to just make a large circular track that basically went out of bounds at the top/bottom of the normal SMB play area. It worked for the visual effect, as long as you didn't try to ride it all the way up/down which would spoil how it was made.

I actually remember recreating the whole of Mario 1 in SMM 1! I don't remember if I had uploaded them or not, but I've since deleted them to make space for other levels I wanted to make. It's kinda cool to see how you handled things differently. For one, I made everything 1 block lower so that the hud at the top of the screen would always have 2 free rows like in the original game. This prevented me from using that enemy displacement you used in this recreation since the bottom layer of blocks would always be 1 block high (but I also just didn't think of that trick in the first place). I also used two ice blocks at the top of the screen of water levels to prevent the player from swimming up there. Overall, though, I think I took many of the same approaches that you did in this recreation. I think I missed out on a few secrets in some levels because I was using let's plays of the game as reference rather than the maps you used (which I didn't even know was a thing until much later). Anyways, I really enjoyed this video! I just wanted to share my process of tackling the same challenge because I think this is a really interesting topic (sorry about the long paragraph).
