he's absolutely incredible. no disrespect to other uk actors/actresses who've tackled roles with impressive faux-american accents, but he's the only one I've ever heard who can mimic standard american speech to absolute perfection (sorry, hugh l. and michael sheen, etc...i still love you !). not a trace of welsh or any other uk accent in his very natural delivery (which always seems so effortless), ever. he really should be an accent / dialect coach in addition to acting. and i adore his pacino - it's spot-on ! !
Damons Idris from "Snowfall" does a spot on American accent, but it's regional to the Carson area of Los Angeles in California. There are thousands of American accents. Rhys does a great non regional, which I'd compare closest the Virginia, Washington DC area.
His accents are great! His English accent in The Americans fooled me completely!! The Mexican accent, as a Mexican -American wasn’t good but it’s amazing how he can do all those other accents beautifully

I don't know. Hugh Laurie and Christian Bale (another Welch actor) have pretty flawless American accents.
