  • In 1914, Frank Lloyd Wright suffered a horrible tragedy when his lover was murdered. By 1915, Wright was on his way to California to escape his grief. While in Los Angeles he would evolve his style to try and create a California-specific style based on Mayan architecture. It marks an interesting path of exploration for him that would influence him for the rest of his career.

A clearly, concisely explained and well-illustrated account of a turning point and underreported chapter in Wright's career, well narrated with an actual human voice. Nice work.

The Millard, Storer, and Ennis houses are, in my opinion at least, the most beautiful homes Wright ever designed. The Millard house is really my favorite, lovely and personal, while the gorgeous Ennis feels like a Mayan temple. Whoever said that the Ennis House was "more suitable for a Mayan god than an American family" was right on and I'm sure that the Ennis family felt like gods in that majestic house. Living in it has to change your psychology, and I'd love to find out for sure.

I’ve never learned just where FLW lived while working in California. I imagine it must have been somewhere normal, meaning he had no part in the design. I enjoyed your photos that I’ve never seen before and video.

Interesting. But, why pan the narration hard left? It's annoying with headphones.
