👍👍👍 .. right on 😊. Anything that reflects light will reflect heat. The misunderstanding creeps in when people think that a wall of logs behind the fire is a 'heat reflector'. It is not! This setup (providing wind does not get in the way) will also tend to direct smoke towards the heat pocket between the fire and the reflector / wall and up .. hot air rises. If you draped a thin clear plastic sheet around the awning / room area, enclosing it and a 'space blanket' on the Ute (aka 'Bakkie' to the West of you 😏) you will create a Mors Kochanski 'Super Shelter'. Not even a T-Shirt will be required .. more a fan to stay cool 😁. Good share .. thanks. Take care .l
The price of these things is totally insane. We built our own years ago out of three discarded signs we found in an ex-sand quarry. Put on hinges and tent peg holders and it has been great as a wind guard ever since. I never thought of it as a fire reflector and to be honest have never used it as such but I guess it would do that too.
I absolutely love it!! Wendy and I were watching your videos (as usual LOL) and she said "find one"... I found it online and showed her the price - She said "NEVERMIND". $500USD for afew pieces of aluminum??? No way in hell... I will order my own aluminum and make it myself for less than $100. But, I Like it!!
These absolutely work. There are a number of Japanese camping TH-camrs that have used thermal imaging cameras to show the difference. Smaller versions of these are really popular in Japan where they need BYO firewood and often have small fires with these reflectors to maximise heat. I purchased one from that is less than half the size and it reflects heat like crazy. I can hold my hand on the other side of the reflector 2cm and it's ice cold. If I have more than 2-3 people sitting around I actually sit the firepit on top of the reflector and it stops the heat being absorbed into the ground.
Don't get me wrong, I know the price is premium! The panels are 4mm aluminium with a custom finish, the hinges are 316 and the thing comes in a bag that looks like it would outlast my swag - just for reference, that's where the money is being spent. I know the manufacturing cost of these and it's eye-watering, there is very little profit in them.
These are expensive to get to Canada too :P . I'm Canadian and just found these a few minutes before your video. I do bonfire/campfires in my yard year round and I think the price trade off here is something that will last forever. I have some plastic sheet from an old shower wall I intend to stick foil to as a try. Should be about the same size. I've done -30s C in the wind and setup various mini shelters nearby using scrap fence panels. I've tried Lea Valley Tools's refletcive stuff for hanging under and behind your camp chair with no measurable success. I'd love to see a video of this with a thermometer used. Thanks and good video!
hahaha I thought fred was into it with another dog and nearly spat My beer out when I realised it was just a stick... I thought it was a wind break for sure but its interresting how it works I would have never thought it would do so much... On a side note that brand axe you have I got a the next model down sized to the one you have to try and holy hell its sharp, I actually cut My finger running it along the edge thinking it wasnt as sharp as it is, love your work Harry.
$399 USD = 630.69 AUD not including shipping yeah nah mate sheet place would be about $50 - $60 a few hinges and a few hoops from bunnings use or borrow a drill and angle grinder and some tent pegs and you'd probably knock it out for under $100 and an arvos work.
Enjoy your TH-cam clips and your cooking chips mate we come across your book and purchased it and we’re gonna give some of your hook ups ago hope your camping is going okay 👍🏻🍺🍺🍺🇦🇺
This goes well with snowpeak $15 spoon and $50 plates. It's not camping, it's overlanding; and there's an overlanding tax that comes with it. Oh, don't forget the $500 overlanding table. lol
Very interest Harry! Nice to learn something new. But wowzers so Expenno. Maybe you could make your own design and we can buy them from you made in Oz? 😂
Please have a 95% off sale and I might consider picking this one up. Oh, look! Yay! I found a different brand on Amazon for $10! That's a $380 savings!!!
Fred is a star, great product but do you need it really, how much more crap do people need seriously, utube all about plugging suppliers products lately, over it 😡😡😡😡😡

A trip to Bunnings a couple hinges a couple panels of lightweight chequer plate aluminium and Bob's your uncle

$632 is steep for 4 metal panels I see the benefits for sure but that’s to rich for my blood. Great video as always Harry

@@firetofork 100% mate especially with metal price skyrocketing, I can see the value in it good quality does not come cheap!
Love these videos as I live vicariously though you Harry and your unquenchable thirst for the best quality camping and 4wd gear.
Great Work mate.
Love the Fiskars Axe in the background.

It,s good to see Fred again and looks like he still loves the sticks.
So good to see Fred doing what Fred does best... Growling at his sticks🤣
He really told that stick who's boss 😆
Well, he’s the Branch Manager after all…
@@nh9395 🤣
@@nh9395 love it...made me laugh!!
Honesty just thought it was to block the wind but from what you have said it's a pretty cool idea.
Love your cooking channel Harry, not so keen on the shopping channel though🙃
Do you find it pushes smoke towards people as well.
Actually the opposite, it draws the smoke on a windless day
Good to see Fred again !
So great to see Fred again, but damn, every video of yours I watch costs me money!🤣 (I have noooo regrets)
I have an almost exact duplicate of his gear! Cost me thousands!! Especially with shipping from AU to USA. But like you said, "NO REGRETS!"!
Would of been good to of got your thermo temp gauge, and showd the temp in different areas, to show the difference...
Cheers Mark...

Nailed it!
You wouldn’t make one the same quality as Harry’s one for under $100 , there not small thin sheets
@@brettchattaway5242 you might be right depending on the metal place you buy it but $630 is still undeniably ridiculous.
Yeh mate it’s pricey alright
Where does it say US $$$? The company is Canadian and the Canadian $$ is on par with the AU $.
Great review thanks. How thick is the aluminium?
4mm mate
EFRT have been using this for ages. Good gear!
Always great to see Fred as the co host. It just would not be the same without him. Cheers from canada.

Check out oz barrier the make same thing but made in Australia
What hatchet and axe are you running mate ?
Fiskars X27 mate
Did Fred have his own microphone for this episode?
I want one but damn they are expensive to get here… probably just as expensive to ship from WA to NSW 😂😂

Fred having to much fun in the background
I wonder what one of these would be like with $20 of gold leaf stuck onto the side facing the fire.
Wow Harry whats with the shoes??? Haha
🍻 Fred!
Love to get 1 👍 - a honest review, thanks
I would think a shiny car sunscreen would have the same effect.
significantly cheaper too

Waiping it should help 🤣
Fred ! 🐕
Fred- Its my turn to talk and i dont care if your not done 🤣
If you're homeless and not a camping enthusiast I'd recommend cardboard, aluminium foil, and twine it to some sticks in the ground.
Harry with shoes on?
yeah...was that really Harry?
It's easy to confuse the USA and Canada, because they're both in North America. The Canucks love the USA. Otherwise, they'd have a border with Mexico.
00:55 never, ever, seen it before in your VLOGs. Maybe, I'm blind. It's not a fire deflector, it's a convection and radiation reflector.
$400?! I'm making one so much cheaper...
Had to laugh - translation from C to F for American audiences but no translation for “flanno” :D
😂😂😂 translation- flannelette shirt
Fred is a star, great product but do you need it really, how much more crap do people need seriously, utube all about plugging suppliers products lately, over it 😡😡😡😡😡
I have no financial interest in this at all. I haven’t been paid a cent
$400 use for what???? don't get for the use for. Just for the heat , and the fire already created heat already it cost like gold.

Ooo look its another youtuber plugging a product, sweet 4 minute advert.....
Yeah all doing it
This is completely unpaid. I have zero financial interest in this.
and yet here you are, taking the time to watch and comment.
I had to waipe my arse after Fred killed that stick, listening in headphones I had him chewing my leg lol
