Another design feature seen on the Allays, yet not on the Vex, is that their head is disproportionelly large compared to their body, implying they are children, since children of mobs, even villagers, have larger heads than the adults
this could especially be true on bedrock edition (since the wither and the warden both killed the ancient builders and the baby animals/villagers heads are comically large)
While the large heads are true, Baby Villagers have their head proportioned to their body, which is strange for Zombie Baby Villagers have large heads but not Regular Baby Villagers. Allot of the Animations have the baby villagers with large heads even the new game has the large heads but in game their heads are normal size with the rest of the body.
Adding another layer on to this theory, perhaps the allay are the result of the ancient builders attempting to bring the spirits of their children back from the dead. This would not only explain why they are smaller than you, but also their playful nature. (dancing, laughing, chasing after you, etc.) This could also mean when you give an allay an item, they see that action as you accepting them into your family. You are affectively a parental figure.
its Game mechanic if its involving lore it can be ignored they are made that way to give freedom to the players imagine they can phase through walls too then how would you contain them but then in a boat?
personal thought: the allays have incomplete memories - they want the items, but they don’t know why. they dance to the music that they know, but they can’t remember from where. they watch you with both childlike joy and profound sadness, as though they recognise you but don’t know how. but they help you all the same, because it’s all they know.
I'm also seeing connections between Allays and fairies. As some have already pointed out, the Allay's large head implies they may very well be children, given the trend of child mobs in Minecraft. Fairies, Pixies in particular, are often said to be very child-like in both appearance and demeanor, and some myths say they are the souls of children who have died.
Mini theory: Why is soul soil called soul SOIL specifically? Well since it is called soil, it implies it’s meant to grow things, but soul soil CANNOT be used to grow nether wart. So what does it grow? Souls. In a manner of speaking. Soul soil is just soul sand that hasn’t had souls infused into it yet, and soul sand is just soul soil that served its purpose; to harbor the souls of the dead. This would be why the sounds of soul soil being placed don’t include ghostly sounds like placing soul sand does, and why soul soil doesn’t slow down the player when walked on like soul sand does. I don’t know if I’m the only one to think of this but it fits PERFECTLY as far as I can tell.
You are right. Soul soil can be used to make a wither and for basalt with blue ice and lava. It would be cool to know if there was an old plant that the old builders used to survive the nether or something like that. Maybe the purpose of soul soil can be explained with its ability to make water elevators.

I think it's interesting that Mojang recently confirmed that, yes, there is lore in the game - however, they don't plan on ever actually confirming any of it.
The only lore we know about (most likely anyway) is that the new Legends game is a prequel to vanilla (the original game) while Dungeons is (most likely) a sequel to vanilla.
PERSONAL THEORY : i think the allay are actually the children of the ancient builders. I think they help you because you look like their family. Considering the builders couldnt alway be advanced they could have started out with helping the dying children. Because they look like steve but smaller more like baby zombies. Edit: hello! So i just looked it up and found the "happy birthday achievement" which damn the feelings but i think thats the reason they like note blocks it reminds them of when they were alive and when they were with the family every birthday and listening to the music disc and noteblocks.
that actually makes sense because think about it, the allay has a much larger head compared to its body this is a feature only seen with baby mobs which most likely means the allay are children
@@KTWhatsup so what i'm hearing is that the allay are the souls of children stuffed inside of animatronic prison suites which are headed by a man seeking to achieve immortality and figure out how to use their spirits or whatever's left of their anger as tools and energy say where have i heard this one before

I love how MatPat pieces together the "lore" of Minecraft, but I'd love to see his take on the connection between Minecraft Dungeons and the base game. Mojang has confirmed that the two are connected, and I'm curious as to how MatPat would fit it all together, especially with very lore-deep features (such as the Necromancer mob in Dungeons).
Theory: The Allay are the spirits of dead children born from the Builders, and whom have been abandoned during the evacuation to The End portal. And the reason why they are helpful is because they YEARN to be helpful as to make sure that they are never abandoned again
Theory: The allays are the souls of the ancient builders who’ve accepted death and are at peace, and the vexes are those who are still vengeful. The pillagers have found a way to turn the peaceful souls into vengeful ones by combining them

Going back to some of ur older theories, I think I remember that there was a theory about the warped forest being somewhat man made. It isn’t like any other part of the nether and what solidified that one for me was these two things: endermen (ancient builders) spawn there, like they’re trying to go back to what they had done before, or trying to return to what they had been. The other thing is the “trees” there. The “leaves” of the crimson forests “trees” are made of nether wart blocks, while in the warped forests, it is instead warped wart blocks (if I remember the name correctly) which implies, to me at least, that the warped forests where at one point crimson forests that the ancient builders warped to be more friendly to them, hence the lack of piglins and hoglins.
I've always had this theory about the warped forests and the endermen: i think the warped forests are corrupted crimson forests (corrupted by the endermen). They frequently spawn there, but no other mob does. The fog is purple and the forest is blue (both colors very uncommon in the Nether, they don't 'fit in'). Also, the hoglins (endemic specie from the Nether) are afraid of the blue mushrooms. I think some of the endermen from the End ended up in the Nether and are trying to settle there, and by doing so they are altering the natural environment (they are sort of an invasive specie). Sorry if there's grammar or spelling mistakes, english is not my first language 😅
It could have been a refuge created by the ancient builders. Hoglins run away from warped fungus because they were conditioned through the years to realize that they mean the builders are there and they would attack them. The blue of the trees and the nylium was probably made to make it feel more like home and the purple fog is just a byproduct of the blue mixing with the natural red. As for the endermen they naturally migrated toward them when they were able to warp between dimensions because they meant safety and knew they wouldn't be attacked.
Another detail to take notice of, the Allay death sound effect sounds eerily similar to the "Screech" and "Slam" sound effects, maybe those noises are echoes of the souls trapped in the caves, or maybe the allays are aware of the player's existence, and are calling out for help, the "Yearn" sound effect also sounds similar to that of the sound effect "Ascension" and "Call" again a sign that perhaps the Allay are in a search for the player, this makes a lot of sense especially since all allays in the world are in captivity, and are looking for a way out. The sound effects "Tremor" and "Roar" also sound like the warden.
Here’s a theory Maybe the nether once had vegetation because the basalt comes from blue ice coming into contact with lava meaning the nether would’ve once had a more welcoming look rather than the dangerous environment we know of today
@@anintrovertonyoutube5271 there is a theory on the channel that Minecraft is set during climate change. Underwater temples are underwater because ocean levels rose. Global warming makes for fire conditions. The Nether is on fire.

Maybe some accident from wherever he hails from led to amnesia, which is why you spawn in a random location and the world is so unknown to you, but your Ancient Builder instincts to explore and create are still in you. The trauma of the accident which leaves you alone in the middle of nowhere may have happened in a cave or in the dark, which Steve would've forgotten exactly what, but would still be tense or afraid underground, where its dark, which manifests itself as sounds and noises. something i'd like to add that wasn't mentioned in here is the fact that the sculk blocks, particularly sculk sensors, reuse some sound clips from vexes, further connecting them back to souls. also, a few of the sounds for walking on soul sand with the soul speed enchantment are literally slowed down versions of sound clips from vexes. AND, by extension, the sounds used for sculk shriekers are stretched out versions of those same audio clips. i think that alone goes to show that sound design really does play a HUGE part in the lore of the game.
* I have a little theory that the allay and warden are somewhat alike if you look at the middle of the warden exposed structure you can see 3 souls the exact max number of allays can spawn now that may not sound like much considering the fact that how could allays find themselves in the deep dark however there's a structure you can find in the ancient cities that looks very similar to a structure in the woodland mansions (so maybe the ill's first place to settle was underground in the ancient cities) and if it's true that the illagers were still using allays as little experiments than just maybe the warden and allay may have more in common than just looking alike (as the warden werid patch of sculk on its head looks very similar to the allays hair patch)* *Bonus: while I was amplifying the warden roar if you change the sound and lower the pitch it sounds very similar to the allay happy noice*
May pat play disks 5, 11, and 13 together with them starting at their number corresponding to seconds. For example start the 5 disk wait 6 seconds and start the 11 then 2 seconds start 13. The audio lines up to make sense maybe try incorporating that into your next theory.
Interesting theory! One small thing though is that they can spawn up to 4 in a cage. I’ve seen it in my personal game when I brought home 7 from two cages at a villager outpost, and fWip also brought home 7 from two cages, also from a villager outpost. It keeps surprising me to see everyone saying the max is 3. That might be more common, but it’s not the max :)
One key detail that unfortunately throws a wrench into this theory is allay duplication. If you give an allay an amethyst shard it will duplicate, which wouldn't immediately make sense if they're ghosts of builders
You should really make a theory about the strays. Just the name alone, stray, meaning to move away aimlessly from a group or from the right course or place. or not in the right place; separated from the group or target. (yes I looked these up cause I couldn't be bothered typing it). Plus, Strays are literally just skeletons wearing clothes and spawn in snowy biomes
You always seem to assume all the builders of old were under one nation but it makes much more sense if they had different countries or nations of their own, it would explain why there are so many that have died, wars between nations, each nation trying to get more powerful coming up with new weapons like the wither or warden, leaving losing countries too flee too other worlds like the end or nether
That’s where my skeleton theory came from. I think the skeletons are undead soldiers from a war between different factions of ancient builders. They see the player and assume they’re an enemy soldier, which is why they attack.
that's exactly what i was thinking! it doesn't make much sense for the ancient city builders and end portal builders to be one nation, since they kinda fled through a one-way passage-way
I'm not surprised Mat did a video on this. I always thought it was one of the more interesting things you could talk about in relation to Minecraft's lore.
The Allay must originate from the Ancient Cities. How did the Illagers get them? The Ancient cities tend to have some parts reconstructed with Dark Oak wood. And Illagers use Dark Oak anything. They saw potential in these spirits and is probably why they are obsesed with magic and spiritual things.
im pretty sure tht the outposts are not only lookouts for the pillagers but maybe also hunting grounds for allay, thats why you would find them in the cages.
@Luis Suazo well, some of these dark oak structures in these Ancient Cities have carpet on them. They are blue and light blue. However, yes. Im sure a lot of them did get owned when they first came.
Interesting theory but one lingering question remains, what’s up with the allay “duplication” with amethysts and jukeboxes or the passive regen while vexes don’t?
idk about the amethyst thing. But I'd assume that allays can regen cuz they are natural while the vex were created. Like how golems don't regen, but instead they need their created materials to repair. Maybe if a vex kills an allay it should get some health back?
It has probably something to do that amethyst is a subcrystal to quartz which has energy storing properties thus giving the allay more energy with the amethyst causes it to duplicate via mitosis
Maybe the allays can choose when to be visible, but the Illagers have a tool that allows them to see the allays even when invisible. The allay duplication is the allay telling another invisible allay that the player can be trusted, so that other allay chooses to become visible in front of the player.
The "Wisp" design is actually used in Minecraft Dungeons, as a mob that simply guides you to a chest iirc. And they specifically appear in a Woodland Mansion or other Illager related locations...
You know, you should do a theory on the enderdragon again, since the enderdragon head is powered by a block of redstone, and it's resistant to the wither affect, it might not be organic, wink wink
Man this theory gave me chills. I had long since grown numb to the spooky side and it just looked intriguing to me, but this one gave the side of hope, joy, the happy bittersweetness of existence that makes use human to begin with. It plucked some heart strings
One question I've had is where you, the player, came from. If all the ancient builders either died or were trapped in the End, how did the player, presumably a descendant of the ancient builders, come about? We seem to just be kinda dropped into the world, so maybe ancient builders are "born" by simply appearing? There must be some reason why the player appears so long after their kind disappears.
Personally I believe the player is a differnt creature entirely from the ancient builders as we can canonically respawn. Like the end poem says “You are the universe” In fact, I believe we are the exact reason the illagers are messing with life and death, they wanna make a respawning soldier like us.
@@marshalllee6376 yup We're similar, but most probably entirely different in a way That's because we are a player We aren't like the builders We're someone outside the game, someone entirely different Even Undertale called out us, the player Maybe the Illagers are trying to figure out what we are And to do that they need go create a player But that's impossible If what I say is true(I honestly think it may be) then there's no end the Illager's experiments
@@Padre_des_los_penitentes yep, however while the illagers still need to experiment, there something I noticed regarding the players abilities. “They sense the creativity in you, the same as they once had in them…” Me: *A literal warrior and hardly builds and mostly fights mobs and builds a house filled with materials and chests*
To be fair, even the staunchest of minecraft warriors still utilizes their power to influence the world (to dig, to place, to collect and store) just as their lore ancestors did. Even most adventure maps still have you build/place things in some capacity, and any PvPer worth their salt knows that blocks (and stuff like water) are the most powerful tools you have.
7:12 - When the color of the allay was inverted and was in black and white the face of it kind of looked like the Crying Child *Which, along with the fact that the Warden has 5 children souls stuffed in it and the deep dark is actually an abandon pizzeria, further supports the theory that Minecraft is actually a fnaf reference*
7:50 When I hear "Nether" in the context of minecraft lore and souls I immediately think _Soul Magic._ The "Soul Entity" or "Soul Wizard" is proof that you can use the souls of soul sand to make allied spirit mobs with soul sand; in Minecraft Dungeons you can use a modofied Soul Lantern to summon one of these Soul Entities, complete with odd robes and a red tie at the waist. Perhaps the Allay was once from there as an escaped soul from the sand, which helps you once it gets to the overworld.
I wonder what theory he’d make if the Copper Golem was added. Maybe depends if statues would spawn naturally. Possibly in the Lost Cities. They might of had some sort of beef with iron golems, and they would of fought with each other. Edit: MOTHER I’M FAMOUS
It's cool that we've brought the Allay into the game, thus adding lore and supporting previous theories. Now what's in my mind is, what kind of lore could be found if ever the Glare or the Copper Golem were to win? Was the Allay the best choice yet?
You argue the same for phantoms, were they the best choice since they brought lore? If you ask the community, no, everybody hates phantoms, but they brought lore so by your logic they would be best choice
9:16 you could easily; just like how hawking's Radiation comes out of Black Holes or even just have the creature be spawned from the soul soil itself because it's just pooped out. That or the fact it adapted to it's environment; we have countless examples in nature of animals that should've died because of it's environment but rapidly evolved to counter said problems. Venus Flytrap family is a great example. Hell one version of the Venus flytrap family doesn't even eat animals but adapted to directly eat poop. Granted those concepts are harder to explain to kids... so yeah you're correct Matpat.
what if the allays are spirits of the dead child of the ancient builders. The allay looks very similar to steve but notice the size of it more like a baby, maybe it was crushed by the warden as we can see the torso is kinda ruptured, the voice of the allay is also childish it would probably make sense as the allay dance to the music, they are helping out steve like small kids do. some who coudn't survive the warden got crushed under his feet and became a spirit.
I kind of want to say that Minecraft should have done something where these wisps could show the player in leading to where the Alley are being trapped.
Wait so lemme get this straight : Long ago there were Acient Builders right? Then they started building structures and eventually moved to the nether. As building more structures in the nether they bring pigs which evolve or become Piglins and Hoglins and building the Wither but forces them to go back to the overworld. They mine underground were they build a city and a stronghold hopefully protecting from the Wither. Then the Warden somehow comes and defeats the Wither. The Acient Builders worship it until the Warden(s) attack them. Forcing the Builders to make an end portal only discovering there is no way out. The Ancient Builders kill the dragons and make structures in the end realizing there is one Ender Dragon left they try to protect it by building cages around the end crystals. With limited rations they survive on chorus fruits eventually mutating them into Endermen . And that's were you join the game.... This is my take on Minecraft's lore
don't forget the pirates who tried to fight rising tides that were drowning their temples by setting out to find the heart of the sea, only to return with nothing or die at sea and turned into the drowned.
Personal theory: the allays are just the victims of zombies wearing very dirty bunny costumes who only come out whenever you type 1987 in the chat, and vaguely growl the words: I always come back
They really really need an official variant to the aether, or honestly just mods with integration to the lore! I remember when it was just a weird end credits
Hey uh Mr.MatPat. Big theory question. If Steve is a descendant of the ancient builders, how did he get to the overworld? All of the ancient builders are stuck in the end.
Villagers are also technically decendents of ancient builders. So I think Steve is just part of a sub species that is the closest related genetically to the ancient builders while villagers and Endermen evolved far more drastically to fit their own biomes. Could also be that Steve is a resurrected ancient builer via some long lost/forgotten ritual/experiment (which would explain the respawn mechanic).
@@aaronmccullers384 Both would make sense, i feel like the latter one makes more sense though. The Ancient builders were obsessed with beating death, so maybe this one did find the magic or is descended from a builder who did find it out
Theory: the ancient builders found the sculk and saw how it could be harnessed so they created the sensor and shrieker and constructed the warden statue as a way to show tribute to the warden for protecting them from the wither
When adding up all these theories together, it's interesting to see how many mobs could be descended from ancient builders: Endermen are ABs that adapted to the end dimension. Allays and vexes are spirits of ABs. The villager branch (including wandering traders, zombie villagers, witches, and all illagers including ravagers) split from the AB species due to a different, less hubristic lifestyle. Zombies and husks are ABs who caught the zombie virus of the overworld. Drowned are remnants of a seafaring civilization of ABs. Wither skeletons are remnants of ABs that died in the nether. Skeletons and strays have no real explanation yet, but they probably do descend from ABs as well.
I LOVED THAT BEATLE REFERENCE AT THE START “Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far allay” Those are lyrics from the song yesterday with the last word changed to allay
My theory as to the spawning conditions of the allay: What if they are the souls of those who were captured there? Like the souls of villagers or iron golems. A soul that has lost all hope and has succumbed to death, destined to laugh eternally in the world of the craft.
Maybe it's not actually reproduction, but instead they're making a ritual of using music and amythest to summon dead ancient builders (Allay) from the afterlife or something...
My theory: I think the ancient builders split up into groups, they must have had an argument about experimenting with souls or finding new dimensions. A group of them didnt want to experiment so instead they became peaceful (becoming villagers). And then the other group must have made the nether portal. Then they made the ancient city trying to go to the end. After the ancient city portal failed some of them just gave up on trying to look for the end and instead fascinated by the soul sand in the nether they experimented on souls trying to become imortal (becoming illagers). But the last of the builders who didnt give up on the end made the stronghold.
@@ZachManSM they could be evolved versions of the old builders that just got dumber cause they went with their peaceful ways because of which they did nothing more inventive

When messing around with allays, I noticed a sound effect subtitled "Allay allays" i thought it was wierd at first but I think it might be a implication of another meaning of the word "allay" which is to diminish. So are the allays diminishing? Note that this sound effect plays when the allay picks up an item. I suppose the allay is diminishing slowly by serving its purpose.
I wonder about the spawning mechanics of Steve. Is there a reason he spawns and respawns the way he does? Maybe when you respawn you are not even the same? But how would that explain beds...
Or we are the final experiment. The two gods in the ather who talk at the end, they created a immortal Steve to save their two favorite descendents, the endemen and the villagers. And spawn is where the rift Steve can from was. And the beds reset spawn because healing happens most when we sleep.
Posting this at my son's request: The allay a mistake, the Pillagers accidentally made them, which is why you can only find them in groups of 1 to 3. How many numbers does an Evoker make when he summons a Vex? They probably capture the mistakes (allays) when they summon Vexes.
ok what if they pull souls from the afterlife and convert them and the allay were ones who didn't get converted, maybe on accident or maybe the allay fought the transformation.
This may have been said several times but there is a little problem, the vex can pass through blocks but the allay can’t… I found that out the hard way. Let’s just say they have trouble following you in the forest. But aside the point if they are a ghost or spirit type of creature then why can they not pass through blocks like the vex P.S fun probably known fact is that an allay has a chance of spawning in a forest.
Whilst in the Mansion, I had a theory that the Allays were players the Illagers captured and slowly tortured to death. That would explain why iron doors were used, and why the Allay knows how to collect items.

And another development name for the allay, besides wisp, was pixie.
They are called pixie in Minecraft's pirate language.

Sorry if there's grammar or spelling mistakes, english is not my first language 😅
funny intro 😂😂
Слава Советской Армии! th-cam.com/video/CAutQJ004bQ/w-d-xo.html

Another detail to take notice of, the Allay death sound effect sounds eerily similar to the "Screech" and "Slam" sound effects, maybe those noises are echoes of the souls trapped in the caves, or maybe the allays are aware of the player's existence, and are calling out for help, the "Yearn" sound effect also sounds similar to that of the sound effect "Ascension" and "Call" again a sign that perhaps the Allay are in a search for the player, this makes a lot of sense especially since all allays in the world are in captivity, and are looking for a way out. something i'd like to add that wasn't mentioned in here is the fact that the sculk blocks, particularly sculk sensors, reuse some sound clips from vexes, further connecting them back to souls. also, a few of the sounds for walking on soul sand with the soul speed enchantment are literally slowed down versions of sound clips from vexes. AND, by extension, the sounds used for sculk shriekers are stretched out versions of those same audio clips. i think that alone goes to show that sound design really does play a HUGE part in the lore of the game.
* I have a little theory that the allay and warden are somewhat alike if you look at the middle of the warden exposed structure you can see 3 souls the exact max number of allays can spawn now that may not sound like much considering the fact that how could allays find themselves in the deep dark however there's a structure you can find in the ancient cities that looks very similar to a structure in the woodland mansions (so maybe the ill's first place to settle was underground in the ancient cities) and if it's true that the illagers were still using allays as little experiments than just maybe the warden and allay may have more in common than just looking alike (as the warden werid patch of sculk on its head looks very similar to the allays hair patch)*
*Bonus: while I was amplifying the warden roar if you change the sound and lower the pitch it sounds very similar to the allay happy noice*

Interesting theory! One small thing though is that they can spawn up to 4 in a cage. I’ve seen it in my personal game when I brought home 7 from two cages at a villager outpost, and fWip also brought home 7 from two cages, also from a villager outpost.
Bro, there's so much death in this universe, and they all spawn different ways..
I imagine strays are those in exile, shunned away so they retreating to the cold tundra, hostile yet welcoming if your smart
They see the player and assume they’re an enemy soldier, which is why they attack.
that's exactly what i was thinking! it doesn't make much sense for the ancient city builders and end portal builders to be one nation, since they kinda fled through a one-way passage-way
I had an old theory that was basically the order of the stone but there were more then just 5 clans. sadly though, the ancient city blew it.

I think the allay regen is more of a gameplay thing, but the duplication must have some meaning
It has probably something to do that amethyst is a subcrystal to quartz which has energy storing properties thus giving the allay more energy with the amethyst causes it to duplicate via mitosis
ehh😏umm🧐 funny 😃😏
Maybe the allays can choose when to be visible, but the Illagers have a tool that allows them to see the allays even when invisible. The allay duplication is the allay telling another invisible allay that the player can be trusted, so that other allay chooses to become visible in front of the player.
5:34 this also ties into how an allay can help you retrieve items after death; relief and vex makes you die and lose items; worry
Imagine dying and being trapped in soul sand, then you get hope by a player picking you up, only to use you as part of a nether roof ice-boat highway.
Well actually, soul speed is theorised to be the freeing of souls in soul sand and soil and the speed boost is what you get in return for doing that.

Like the end poem says “You are the universe”
In fact, I believe we are the exact reason the illagers are messing with life and death, they wanna make a respawning soldier like us.

That or the fact it adapted to it's environment; we have countless examples in nature of animals that should've died because of it's environment but rapidly evolved to counter said problems. what if the allays are spirits of the dead child of the ancient builders.

They mine underground were they build a city and a stronghold hopefully protecting from the Wither. Then the Warden somehow comes and defeats the Wither. The Acient Builders worship it until the Warden(s) attack them.
Forcing the Builders to make an end portal only discovering there is no way out.
Honestly these Minecraft theories are some of the most compelling the team has put out. Well done you guys I’m really enjoying them!
When adding up all these theories together, it's interesting to see how many mobs could be descended from ancient builders:
Endermen are ABs that adapted to the end dimension.
The strays are super interesting! They are clothed skeletons and use arrows that cause slowness showing their intelligence!
Strays could be ABs that got stranded in the snow and skeletons are just ABs that turned into zombies and there flesh withered away because of age
@@Thepurpleclonetrooper to add on to this, maybe there was an archer race of ABs or something like that
Theory crafting is hard

I LOVED THAT BEATLE REFERENCE AT THE START “Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far allay”
Those are lyrics from the song yesterday with the last word changed to allay
Ah a Game Theory video at the last day of vacation and the day where I got my period. Thanks for cheering me up mat, needed it
My theory as to the spawning conditions of the allay: What if they are the souls of those who were captured there? Like the souls of villagers or iron golems. A soul that has lost all hope and has succumbed to death, destined to laugh eternally in the world of the craft.
One thing you haven't solved yet, how does duplicating Allays work with the lore?
Yeah and then after the illagers saw the success of the ancient builders they tried to replicate it.
i sub partially to this theory
The villagers are obviously a different species than the ancient builders.
@@ZachManSM they could be evolved versions of the old builders that just got dumber cause they went with their peaceful ways because of which they did nothing more inventive
10:10 "My favorite explanation for everything in this game..." Matt Pat 2022. It is true that this is his favorite explanation and I like that he pointed it out.
Matpat can u explain this so-called "editor dungeon" ? 10:09

Parrots are past survivors confirmed
I’d love to see a theory on who is Steve and why he is an exception to the rest of the builders
me too
he already did that
@@Keyboard3939 no he didn’t
Unfortunately in an interview for the Minecraft Movie Mojang stated that Steve isn't supposed to be a single person instead he is supposed to represent the player, and is up to creative interpretation.
@@king_conor133 ok well my point still stands. Who are you in this world? What is the nature of the player. How is it that your race is gone but you and you alone remain
Minecraft: Can I copy your homework?
MatPat: Yea just don’t make it obvious
Vexes in 1.20 snapshot
When messing around with allays, I noticed a sound effect subtitled "Allay allays" i thought it was wierd at first but I think it might be a implication of another meaning of the word "allay" which is to diminish. So are the allays diminishing? Note that this sound effect plays when the allay picks up an item. I suppose the allay is diminishing slowly by serving its purpose.
Also, there’s a subtitle called “Vex vexes”. Quite similar.
@@txtp oh well that’s new
That solidifies the connection
It’s the allay being nice and removing a burden.
But the word to allay also means to help. It means that the helper helps.
I wonder about the spawning mechanics of Steve. Is there a reason he spawns and respawns the way he does? Maybe when you respawn you are not even the same? But how would that explain beds...
Maybe normal Survival is just a modification to make gameplay more fun, and Hardcore is the real setting for the lore or something.
Or we are the final experiment. The two gods in the ather who talk at the end, they created a immortal Steve to save their two favorite descendents, the endemen and the villagers. And spawn is where the rift Steve can from was. And the beds reset spawn because healing happens most when we sleep.
2 words: Cloning Machine (this is a joke but now I wonder)
In Minecraft Dungeons, you respawn solely through totems of undying, so it's definitely just a game mechanic
I mean, its gameplay wise, not lore-wise
Posting this at my son's request:
The allay a mistake, the Pillagers accidentally made them, which is why you can only find them in groups of 1 to 3. How many numbers does an Evoker make when he summons a Vex? They probably capture the mistakes (allays) when they summon Vexes.
Glad to hear your son’s theory!
ok what if they pull souls from the afterlife and convert them and the allay were ones who didn't get converted, maybe on accident or maybe the allay fought the transformation.

Actually a really smart theory
This is the first video from Game Theory that makes me want to cry. Great job, you’re making me cry over Minecraft 😭🥰
1:45
The fact that I didn't immediately pickup on that Fnaf reference probably means I've would a little too much Game Theory.
This may have been said several times but there is a little problem, the vex can pass through blocks but the allay can’t… I found that out the hard way. Let’s just say they have trouble following you in the forest. But aside the point if they are a ghost or spirit type of creature then why can they not pass through blocks like the vex
P.S fun probably known fact is that an allay has a chance of spawning in a forest.
Whilst in the Mansion, I had a theory that the Allays were players the Illagers captured and slowly tortured to death. That would explain why iron doors were used, and why the Allay knows how to collect items.
@vliduu zeeb creepers 👀
@@Ked7 Exploding it's not interacting.
Glad to look back now with their updated models and confirmation of this theory.
I really want someone to make a “lost city revived” map/ world on Minecraft that you can buy… just really curious to see how peoples minds see the ancient cities in actual Minecraft…
At 11:23 its started to get really wholesome
Forgot to mention that when he said that the allys are the old builders i noticed that the allys head looks similar to steves head with the cyan like hair
You mean reallay wholesome?
I'll walk myself out
Bro I started crying at 11:30 that story hit harddd
Are ya winnin son?
I had this question in my head about the Allay, “How old are they?” But I told myself that it doesn’t matter. But I at some point thought the Allay could be children soul’s, because they have high pitched voices, are small, could only carry items not use them, and has a cute dance. I’m not saying that adults can’t have any of these, but it was a mini theory that came up in my head. Great for sharing this story, MatPat! 😊👍🏻
Is it bad that I made my allays as slaves
Can't wait until MatPat hears about 1.19.1 having Allay duplication using Amethyst Shards...Thats gonna add a whole newer dimension of LORE

mob bestiary? not canon bro
minecraft dungeons 100% canon even confirmed by devs, so why is he not using it?
it's like 180 from fnaf lore, in fnaf he only goes with everything that scott said but in minecraft he takes random stuff from random sources
OMG!!!!!!
7:00 That also explains the weird pixel size their textures use! As of they chipped away at their very textures to mold them together and let them float through walls!
