- Fixing a giant crack in my dodge ram 1500 showing how to do a frame repair at home. We used some beefy 1/4 thick 2x2 tubing to fix the frame this truck.

Awesome work. Most people would either scrap the truck or worse, kept driving it unsafely down our highways. I used to run into lots of deathtraps here in Michigan. 9 times out of 10 the customers already new half of their car was rotted away underneath and didnt care.

Love the dimes. Take some pride in those, I've seen mechanics who can't even chicken scratch. Truck is stronger then it has ever been that's for sure

Yes plowed with it all last winter and driven it every single day this year

I was always told frames are not allowed to be welded
Why? That’s how there made is welded together
Have you seen cracked frame at steering box and if so how do you address it

Hey there, thanks for posting this. There is a Ram for sale down here in Florida that I'm looking at possibly purchasing, that has extensive rust in the frame, with cracking similar to yours. From the Carfax report, it's spent most of its life since 2013 in Canada. I'm curious, what would be like a ballpark figure cost-wise for the repair you did in this video? Thanks!!
I have the same truck mine is rusted out we’re the sway bar bolts up what gauge sheet metal should I use I have a Lincoln electric 140hd welding with gasless wire

Any after thoughts that you think would've been a better option than the 2x2 1/4. Or how to go about the gap you bridged to make it all seem flush?
Gap? I used big c clamps to hold it all together
Did the 2×2 fit snug or was there space around it
@@scottierominger1141 pretty snug had about a 1/8 gap that I squeezed the frame with a c clamp to get rid of
nobody makes a premade repair patch for these year rams?? mine is rotted in the exact same spot...

I got a question bout doing some frame moddin can you put in a channel in the frame for an exhaust pip to pass through
Yes but I would weld a tube in place on the frame

this would not have happened if the truck had received a rustproof treatment
Minnesota salt is very nasty on vehicles
@@RacingRamFam you don't see Québec (Canada) salt ,i have a 300 c 2006 and i give rustproof treatment each year and it always like new

I live in north Québec, any car that got decent millages (200 000+) can't survive from that salt
