130 of 182 riders dropped out of a recent AMATUER bike race in Spain when anti-doping agents showed. Seems like athletes of all levels in Spain have issues with PEDs.
My country needs to take this more seriously. The should be banned from 8 to 10 years. With that kind of sanctions athletes would think twice before doping
They should be banned for life. That said, we have know idea how many countries appear to be taking this seriously while simply covering up positives like the US, Russia and many more
If you cheat, you should get all titles striped from you In a minimum of a five year band. Or just let the athletes cheat because of anything else it’s unfair to the rest of the competitors.

When you are on this level, you are subject to unscheduled out of competition test, and almost every top 3 performance at major championships are tested. The tests are extremely sensitive. Way more than just 10 years ago. Doping should NEVER be allowed or encouraged (making special events for “enhanced” athletes with huge prizes). It trickles downward. Once you normalize doping, will young athletes beg for these to compensate for lack of talent or discipline, and ambititous coaches might dope athletes without consent. This possibly happens already, and it will happen much more often, once you get cynical and categorically states, that everyone dopes.

Not saying that it can't be done, but the level of medical control that is required, the "luck" of not getting randomly tested at the wrong time, and get the timing exactly right prior to championships is substantial. As stated, the levels that are detectable has increased significantly, and the substances that can be tested for, have also increased. The vast majority of athletes you see in major championships, even those that occasionally grabs a medal, scrape by economically. They don't have the resources to hire expert medical help. They are not medical experts themselves. Not everyone is in NOP (as it was under the wings of Salazar and Dr. Brown). The cynical approach, that the system doesn't work, and everyone does it, will ruin sports. I know, that some parents are that ambitious on their kids behalf, and will gladly get their kids whatever they (or the parent) desire. One thing that might be rampant, is the use of TUE's. There are probably a few unwarranted TUE's out there. I don't know if you are a parent to an aspiring athlete, but what would your response be, if he/she requested PED's?

Weren't there two other Spaniards banned recently (maybe late 2023), a women's 100m hurdler and a pole vaulter? They were both top-level in their events, able to reach semis in world-class competitions. Both those cases revealed the Spanish doping authorities had some questionable practices in their home country documentation as the two were caught in foreign competitions with other countries doing the testing.
I do believe many are natural. The difference between natural and enhanced athletes within bodybuilding and powerlifting is insane. We don’t see that difference in athletes. And my logic here is not that means they aren’t doping but rather that if they are then I don’t care because the difference between enhanced and natural is so small.
I hope this is satire. There is a huge difference between natural and enhanced athletes. And even so with your “logic” a small difference of .3 seconds in a 1500 meter race can be the difference between winning gold and losing.

As a former elite athlete who left my sport due to being tired of competing with chemically enhanced “athletes,” I can attest that the VAST majority are cheating. I can’t even watch sports anymore.
I find it funny that if two elite guys like this are doping, why can't people imagine that probably most elite athletes from all over the world are also doping!
SO why aren't they caught though? I'm not saying that some of the ones that aren't caught are not doping, I bet some are, but not all. The problem is that we get so used to super shoes and intense training and the question laid in front of us is “what if”. That “what if” is why people get addicted to anything and that could be PEDS, drugs, phones, and other forms of instant gratification. I think the only solution to this is to keep it the way body builders compete and there should be a place for these athletes. I DO NOT think we should have a doping Olympics or doping worlds finals however I do think we need to have races where these athletes can compete either unattached for no points or rewards or in their own division against dopers.

False. Most athletes don't cheat. In reality, 30% of them probably do or probably have. Most athletes rise to the top being clean because they grow up to resent cheating and strive to be the best. There are the weaker minded individuals that are groomed or do anything to win that cheat for the wrong reasons. But most are clean. To reach the highest level requires training and consistency that no normal human can appreciate unless they experience a few weeks of trying to train at the intensity and volume it takes..

Shoes and swimsuits are available to everyone. Doping protocols are very secretive and are only available to people with the right connections and deep pockets. Instead of putting everyone on the same footing, allowing doping would just end up with the athlete with the combination of "best" doctor and willingness to take serious health risks winning every competition.
That is an argument but you have to understand swimsuits and shoes don't have major health risks. A lot of athletes dedicate their lives to a sport. It is kind of sad when people assume they take PeD's even when they are clean. Don't get me wrong there are people who take PeD's and get away with it. I couldn't imagine almost qualifying for the finals and then later figuring out you were cheated out of it by someone who was too lazy to actually race fair. Shoes and swimsuits can be obtained through being a good athlete and getting a good sponsorship. I think having to separate leagues could be cool but it could lead to magor heath risks and many people (including me) wouldn't stand to watch it. (However, I do think as long as there are no electric compounds involved and not too much leverage added shoes and swimsuit technologies should advance on their own terms. )

Look back at cycling during the Lance era, sure everyone was doping, but only the guys with the right doctors (e.g. Michele Ferrari) had any chance of winning because they had the best doping strategy. In high dollar sport, doctor's proprietary protocols are going to be secret and sold to the highest bidder. Everyone acknowledges that Jan Ulrich was a better talent than Lance (and also was doped to the gills), but Lance had the better drugs so he won. It made the sport less fair and more dangerous.
Please do not make assumptions from such a shallow analysis about the professionalism of a federation. 2 cases do not imply a whole country is corrupted, Spain is a decent size country, americans.
