This kid is special. Disregarding the wind, he still beat NOAH LYLES by nearly a tenth of a second. With this being said, remember what Noah did last season in the 200 with so many people talking about Knighton? He broke through and achieved new heights in the 200. not only pro athletes I'm pretty sure Noah lyles has the fastest time in the world this year in the 100 and he for sure has been the best in the world at 200 meters since at least the olympics in 2021.

And of course I understand that there's a lot of factors that go into winning major sporting events. But the fact that the guy managed to run insanely fast this early in the season (wind aided or not) shows the extent of his potential.
Ok, let me rephrase my original statement. He's still young, lacks competitive experience against the world's best and might not qualify for the WC but it doesn't mean that under the right circumstances not only can he make the usa team but medal in the upcoming WC.

Tracks are different, different weather conditions and of course the pressure of an olympic final. So comparing this little training meet with the olympic final from 2021 makes no sense at all. The times were not even legal. If he can run 9.83 with legal wind then I'll say he has a shot to make the US team.

Ran against this kid at the Missouri class 2 State meet he beat me in the 200m, he was 1st I was 2nd. Great to see he’s where I thought he’d be. He broke every single record in every event he ran in. Special kid with great genetics from his Olympian parents. Can’t wait to see what he does next.

It is crazy what these athletes have been doing across the globe over the past 2 years. Just insane. COVID did something to track and field athletes.
Gave them more time to train and focus without needing to compete (in 2020, early 2021), fewer travel obligations. Possibly less need to cycle on and off PEDs since drug testing was reduced/eliminated.

Boling 9.98 wind aided converted to 10.13. That's the level he was at 10.13 100m and 20.3 200m.
I think what's most impressive is the time he ran at his age. A time that puts him in contention in pretty much any race he was in, if he's actually allowed to run in them. Noah Lyles has never really been that strong of a 100m runner, so I won't overreact just became he got beat in it. But if anything could motivate him to get more serious about the 100m, like he says he wants to, this would certainly do it.
Wow! He officially holds the fastest 100 meter time ever recorded in high school under all conditions. 9.83 is absolutely a dream for any high school athlete to ever run, let alone a sub 10. This is absolutely absurd and very commendable!
I'm going to say what no one else wants to say but what all really high end athletes are thinking. First of all, is this kid really just 18 or 17? Secondly the fact that him and his female counterpart at Monte Verde have BOTH ran near world leading times as high schoolers really brings into question what's really going on. One great athlete? Ok, in get it. Assinga was having trouble breaking 10.9s this time last year, literally. 3 of his first 5 100m races last year were 10.9 and most of his 200m races were 22 ish. Less than a year later he's running near world leader status? Same with Hodges, she's running mid 23s in the 200m all last year. No one knew who she was on this level and all of a sudden she runs a 22.33, 4th in the world? As a 16 year old junior? I'm curious to see what they all do when they are on a 'real' track in a 'real' race that's official as a real pro event like diamond leagues or worlds type events. I find it hard to believe these times are not something suspicious to say the least. Yeah, call me a hater. Whatever.. but I've been doing this for 30 years and when FloJo ran the way she did everyone said 'hold on' and when Ben Johnson smoked the field everyone said 'hold on' ... 0.6m wind is not much over the limit. I get he beat Lyles will be the argument but no pro is in form yet. Lyles isn't even close to being where he's going to be. Even in their state finals for high school Assinga was running high 21.95. That's not even 10.5 months ago. His 100m was 10.69. He ran 10.97 on May 7th in his state sectionals race with 0.7m wind in his face, basically nothing. How is someone who is rational supposed to take this? I love greatness, I truly do but he seems like he is 1.5 years ahead of where he should be. I guess the thought would be, he should break the world record in everything without a second thought. He's by far FAR FAR the greatest high school track athlete of all time and Hodges is probably the best female athlete of all time after what they've done.
I also want to make sure people know he's a great kid. I love his attitude. He's smart af too. Hodges the same. I love they are here running for us and themselves. I will definitely be rooting for them all day long without a doubt. No hatred towards them at all. I'm just saying what most people who have half a brain would be wondering. Wtf is happening right now. He was born in Georgia but has lived in Zambia and is a dual citizen, I hope he runs for America but if he runs for Zambia I will cheer him on like I did Bolt. I think Hodge will run for the British Virgin islands but I'll still root for her too.

Erriyons record doesn’t count towards the high school list because when you go pro you forego your eligibility, hence the reason why Knighton isn’t listed as the 200m Hs record holder

We need to go to strictly age defined records. The HS rules are often set up to support the HS system not necessarily the athlete.

If De Grasse is in form AND there is a huge tailwind I think The Dark Horse has a decent shot. He seems to run faster with a tailwind compared to other sprinters, though he runs worse than others into a headwind. I think it's a bodytype thing, I would assume Kerley would gain less benefit from a tailwind, but would be able to power through a headwind much better.

That’s the beauty of competitive athletics, there’s really is no “one guy or gal”. On any given day somebody can come out and do something “outrageous”!
The sport (track and field) is evolving, the competitors are constantly pushing each other “to better”.
Most of all, there’s no room for big mouths and bragging, all the “talking” happens with “the feet on the track”, the performance.
Last time was Erriyon Knighton making his debut. Now it’s Assam Asinga throwing his hat in the ring, 9.83 😮. The field just keeps on getting deeper. Not to mention Lyles, Kerley, Bromell, AND Michael Norman is moving from the 400m to the 100m ~ a lot to watch!

Yeah he was a junior last year I ran against him when he was a sophomore. His stride is so smooth and it just looked like he was jogging.
Definitely have to give props to Asinga. He's run some serious times, so he appears to be the real deal. Probably shouldn't read too much into this just yet, though, as far as Lyles is concerned, because he's obviously looking to peak for this summer's World Championships in Budapest. Lyles is always at his best in the big meets when it matters most. In fact, this loss might just inspire him, just like Knighton's 19.49 inspired him last season, and we saw what happened after that.

This is setting up the scene for a "Must Watch" 2023 track season. The Jamaican, Canadian & other men have gotten stronger but it looks like the USA has stepped up to meet all of their challenges. Can't wait until the World's this summer. The kids are coming.

April is notorious for wind assisted times. Famously William Snoddy ran his hurricane assisted +11.2 in early April 78, faster than the WR at the time ( I think it was 1st April in fact!!)

I still maintain that Noah Lyles is not a top 100 meter sprinter. He is not a world champion in the 100. This young gun would likely not fair as well in the 200 as would Lyles. Lyles generates phenomenal speed over a distance...the 200 is his race.

I recall Matt Boling had estimated over 4 plus wind at 9.99 and it was the greatest thing ever. No one counts wind aided times in lists. The wind can vary from slight to very strong tailwind so you never count it but clout chasing keeps it for Boling and now this. He and Erryington are the 2 fastest HSers ever with legit times.
