This kid is special. Disregarding the wind, he still beat NOAH LYLES by nearly a tenth of a second. With this being said, remember what Noah did last season in the 200 with so many people talking about Knighton? He broke through and achieved new heights in the 200. not only pro athletes I'm pretty sure Noah lyles has the fastest time in the world this year in the 100 and he for sure has been the best in the world at 200 meters since at least the olympics in 2021.

And of course I understand that there's a lot of factors that go into winning major sporting events. But the fact that the guy managed to run insanely fast this early in the season (wind aided or not) shows the extent of his potential.
Ok, let me rephrase my original statement. He's still young, lacks competitive experience against the world's best and might not qualify for the WC but it doesn't mean that under the right circumstances not only can he make the usa team but medal in the upcoming WC.

Tracks are different, different weather conditions and of course the pressure of an olympic final. So comparing this little training meet with the olympic final from 2021 makes no sense at all. The times were not even legal. If he can run 9.83 with legal wind then I'll say he has a shot to make the US team.

Ran against this kid at the Missouri class 2 State meet he beat me in the 200m, he was 1st I was 2nd. Great to see he’s where I thought he’d be. He broke every single record in every event he ran in. Special kid with great genetics from his Olympian parents. Can’t wait to see what he does next.

It is crazy what these athletes have been doing across the globe over the past 2 years. Just insane. COVID did something to track and field athletes.
Gave them more time to train and focus without needing to compete (in 2020, early 2021), fewer travel obligations. Possibly less need to cycle on and off PEDs since drug testing was reduced/eliminated.
Yes, stopped out of competition testing. There will be some big busts this year

For a little more context, at the 1988 Olympics, Carl Lewis won the gold after Ben Johnson was disqualified. Lewis’ time was 9.92. .
And Johnson’s was 9.79. and they did those times 35 years ago, using no-tech shoes in tracks considered downright mushy compared to today. The Mondotrack wasn’t used until Beijing 2008, and then it got a huge upgrade for Tokyo 2021 where several runners stated publicly how much faster the track was making them run.

@@AJT127 which is honestly one of the reason both athletes get pushbacks it’s due to the over reporting of them when there’s other athletes stories to uncover.
I think Abby is better received because she set new college PR and ran world class times whereas Boling outdoors doesn’t run times that would get you placed in the WC
I know their money generates clicks and money but at one point you gotta ask why you cover track is it for the money purely or the love of the sport (and to make money)
I think what's most impressive is the time he ran at his age. A time that puts him in contention in pretty much any race he was in, if he's actually allowed to run in them. Noah Lyles has never really been that strong of a 100m runner, so I won't overreact just became he got beat in it. But if anything could motivate him to get more serious about the 100m, like he says he wants to, this would certainly do it.

Erriyons record doesn’t count towards the high school list because when you go pro you forego your eligibility, hence the reason why Knighton isn’t listed as the 200m Hs record holder

We need to go to strictly age defined records. The HS rules are often set up to support the HS system not necessarily the athlete.

Some of these next generation sprinters are unbelievable. I was a sprint coach for a number of years and had some great sprinters, but Knighton and this young man are way over the top.

This is setting up the scene for a "Must Watch" 2023 track season. The Jamaican, Canadian & other men have gotten stronger but it looks like the USA has stepped up to meet all of their challenges. Can't wait until the World's this summer. The kids are coming.
Zambia 🇿🇲 Decent
I'm going to say what no one else wants to say but what all really high end athletes are thinking. First of all, is this kid really just 18 or 17? Secondly the fact that him and his female counterpart at Monte Verde have BOTH ran near world leading times as high schoolers really brings into question what's really going on. One great athlete? Ok, in get it. Assinga was having trouble breaking 10.9s this time last year, literally. 3 of his first 5 100m races last year were 10.9 and most of his 200m races were 22 ish. Less than a year later he's running near world leader status? Same with Hodges, she's running mid 23s in the 200m all last year. No one knew who she was on this level and all of a sudden she runs a 22.33, 4th in the world? As a 16 year old junior? I'm curious to see what they all do when they are on a 'real' track in a 'real' race that's official as a real pro event like diamond leagues or worlds type events. I find it hard to believe these times are not something suspicious to say the least. Yeah, call me a hater. Whatever.. but I've been doing this for 30 years and when FloJo ran the way she did everyone said 'hold on' and when Ben Johnson smoked the field everyone said 'hold on' ... 0.6m wind is not much over the limit. I get he beat Lyles will be the argument but no pro is in form yet. Lyles isn't even close to being where he's going to be. Even in their state finals for high school Assinga was running high 21.95. That's not even 10.5 months ago. His 100m was 10.69. He ran 10.97 on May 7th in his state sectionals race with 0.7m wind in his face, basically nothing. How is someone who is rational supposed to take this? I love greatness, I truly do but he seems like he is 1.5 years ahead of where he should be. I guess the thought would be, he should break the world record in everything without a second thought. He's by far FAR FAR the greatest high school track athlete of all time and Hodges is probably the best female athlete of all time after what they've done.
I also want to make sure people know he's a great kid. I love his attitude. He's smart af too. Hodges the same. I love they are here running for us and themselves. I will definitely be rooting for them all day long without a doubt. No hatred towards them at all. I'm just saying what most people who have half a brain would be wondering. Wtf is happening right now. He was born in Georgia but has lived in Zambia and is a dual citizen, I hope he runs for America but if he runs for Zambia I will cheer him on like I did Bolt. I think Hodge will run for the British Virgin islands but I'll still root for her too.
100% agree. But it’s a combination of things. 1/ bouncy hi tec shoes. I bet they don’t even check who’s wearing the Nike illegal-Flys at the small early meets. 2/ top pros take all early events as warmup. Beating Lyles or Degrasse early means nothing, because of their tapering schedule. Anyone really think they’re gonna go all-out early season and risk injury at a shitty little meet and risk losing out on actual performance money later? 3/ small meets are hype machines on purpose to drive interest. They have inconsistent wind tech (I bet it was 3 wind or higher, and this track is way out in the open with no wind deflection around for hundreds of meters), and they love to see tailwinds because it creates low times, which are perfect for hype and to attract new memberships to their “fast track”. They coulda turned the race around and run it the other way. 4/ HS gear use is off the charts these days, because it’s so easy to get online. HS runners are not tested, unless I’m mistaken.
Final note: wind-aided results are underplayed by the general public. Wind gusts give a huge push. There’s a reason they don’t count at all.

That’s the beauty of competitive athletics, there’s really is no “one guy or gal”. On any given day somebody can come out and do something “outrageous”!
The sport (track and field) is evolving, the competitors are constantly pushing each other “to better”.
Most of all, there’s no room for big mouths and bragging, all the “talking” happens with “the feet on the track”, the performance.
Last time was Erriyon Knighton making his debut. Now it’s Assam Asinga throwing his hat in the ring, 9.83 😮. The field just keeps on getting deeper. Not to mention Lyles, Kerley, Bromell, AND Michael Norman is moving from the 400m to the 100m ~ a lot to watch!

So this guy has gone from 6.86 to 6.57 tying a national record, 22.30 to 20.48 smashing the high school record indoors. 20.76 to 20.11 outdoors just off the record and now from 10.44 to 9.93 basic outdoors in one year? This is beyond sus.

He gets props for running through the line, unlike that other junior show boater lately. Just sick of these athletes of all ages who play around with slowing way down before the line. Usain started it with his 9.69 world record but the man was the GOAT and rightfully deserved respect, the others not yet.
Usain Bolt would have been less of a star if he had run through the line accomplishing a potentially better time at the Beijing Olympic and thereby earning less money during his Carrier. Unlike you Usain Bolt is not Short Sighted. He recognized that at the end of the day he was not in the track and field business but instead the entertainment business. That looks like Clermont.,near Orlando, maybe 10-12 years ago? I was competing there, it was one of those "last chance" meets for qualifying times, and they ran a 100 meters with not one big name runner ( though someone super fast like Walter Dix was supposed to run ) and I think everyone or at least 7 out of the 8 ran 10.2 something or faster. ......Florida.

Definitely have to give props to Asinga. He's run some serious times, so he appears to be the real deal. Probably shouldn't read too much into this just yet, though, as far as Lyles is concerned, because he's obviously looking to peak for this summer's World Championships in Budapest. Lyles is always at his best in the big meets when it matters most. In fact, this loss might just inspire him, just like Knighton's 19.49 inspired him last season, and we saw what happened after that.
