    Iris coming in sounds like skipper and 1st mate need an egg and bacon butty and a mug of hot tea 🙌 at the helm. Don't worry about egg yolk down the front of the smock, the water will get rid of that ! 🍻 Safe passage.

    Thanks again for letting us into your life, when that magnet busted I went or S===, all that time wasted, but not really you showed us all what can be fixed.
    I have also looked at Ebay on the Rex, it does also come over from the states but call me dumb but I can't find those other parts from Sailrite, it does look also that for a 240v kit is going to be 5 times what you paid for the inverter.
    The machine that we were looking at was over $2500, so thanks for sharing.
    You said it was just starting to get cold, today here out near Gundawindy was 31 then we got a wind about 5 pm & now it has gotten cold, on with the flanno.
    Cheers

    Thanks for the video , it’s amazing how every week we have something to repair on our boat also , if we couldn’t fix our boat our selves we wouldn’t be able to afford to keep it, we r from the Gold Coast and any marine trade is 100 dollars an hour which I find ludicrous

    I'm fixing a boat up for a trip around Australia and everything you touch ends up being bigger than expected. But as long as we keep moving forward we will get there. Planning to change the loo to a composting loo. I think every sailing channel I have watched has loo trouble. Love your videos, you guys are a great couple.

    • @SailingSVSarean
      @SailingSVSarean  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Roy Hey Roy! Thank you so much! Generally we haven't had too much trouble with the toilet - we haven't had to service that one for years actually. I looked into a composting head for the boat however decided to give it a miss mainly as we won't be able to keep constant stock of the 'dirt' mix, and decided we would rather use that storage for food items. The urine, you capture and either toss overboard or then have to pour off into a holding tank, which seemed tricky if you were voyaging.
      I think it'd be a great idea for your situation though as you can call into land to re-stock or pump off quite regularly. I have friends cruising Aus who love their system!
      Best of luck with the boat jobs - hope you get out cruising soon!

    Good old TC Iris was threatening to drop heaps of rain in Townsville,and I did some precautionary things so not to be stranded behind some creeks.It didn't happen though,hahaha.Glad you found yourselves a safe haven👍😊
    I've glued many magnets back in those motors,you know,I would have been tempted to glue the bigger part of that in,and leave the little bit out,I think it would work reasonably.But if there is a new one available,why bother I guess.All the best😊

    • @SailingSVSarean
      @SailingSVSarean  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wayne Doeblin Yes we were tempted Wayne - upgrading was our goal but yes we were adviaed that it may affect the armiture by having more effect on one part than the other. Who knows! Good to know gluing is an option if we don't manage to break a magnet next time! Thanks for the tip ;)

    Great Vid Guys, When Darren put those gloves on, I thought, hello; Dr Darren , Proctologist!!lol. I can relate to almost finishing fixing something mechanical & then at the last minute, something breaks or a screw/bolt goes missing! I was wondering how u guys were getting on when TC Iris formed up. My boat is on the hard in Gladstone, the shipyard rang me to say they were bolstering down. Fortunately all was well. Glad you guys were too. Enjoy the warmer weather!

    So close to a fix on the loo pump/macerator.....oh well., can't win them all Darren! I don't like parking in marina's during a bad storm, just too many boats.....Emma and Holyhead Marina and other's in the Caribbean comes to mind.....hard on boats. As you two know well.....mangroves rock if you can get to them in time and the tides cooperate!

    Hi lovebirds. Amazing to see you in real drama. I would be pooing my pants. But you two deal with it in your stride. Haha both the cyclone and the dunny.
    70 knots. Omg! Bit much for open water on a hook. Life has risks. But its the ying and hand of sailing i suppose.

    What would you do without a workshop on board? I appreciate now the dangers posed by a Cyclone. I think you hid your fears quite well once the escape route vanished. What would you have done had a marina berth become unavailable? As usual a great video with a glimpse of your life and interactions and team effort.

    • @SailingSVSarean
      @SailingSVSarean  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Frederic Koning Hi Frederic! Yes a workshop is vital I think - we are in there almost every day hunting for some item or another. Our last option with Iris would have been to sit it out on the storm anchor and hopefully have slept like babies ;)

    Life in the raw, so to speak. I’m glad you missed the cyclone. A couple of questions.... firstly, how did the broken end of the magnet change polarity and could you have reversed that bit, filed it flat and glued it back into the housing in an emergency? Secondly, don’t you peel your salami or was there a tiny bit that got missed? However I did think the casing was digestible but obviously not. It’s a pity you didn’t film your provisioning run and talk a little about what you buy, I think I noticed 3 jars of Tahini, please share your hummus recipe. Looking forward to your trip up north.

    • @SailingSVSarean
      @SailingSVSarean  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Stevie FordRanger
      Hahaha! Stevie you are terrific! I peel, McDazzle doesn't. Hence I serve up nibblies more often. McDazzle may start peeling his salami now tho!
      With the magnet. When it breaks it creates new set of N/S poles. We tried flipping the piece over however that didn't work. Great suggestion though I like the way you think!
      I will do a more detailed provisioning vid when we stock up for our 3 months of remote cruising coming up. Yes that was tahini! Can't say I use a recipe exactly. 1 can of chickpeas, about 2T cumin (or more), 2-3 cloves garlic, lemon juice or lemon flavoured olive oil, a little water (as my blender isn't very strong when the mix is quite gooey) and a giant gob of tahini - possibly 1/3 of a jar... It all depends what I have in stock at the time really ;)
      Hope that helps!

    • @steviefordranger198
      @steviefordranger198 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sailing SV Sarean Thank you for your detailed response. I use the chickpea liquid in the can and my blender can only handle it when I also add the lemon juice and a few chick peas at a time. Your “recipe” sounds much the same as mine, my girlfriend uses a stick blender which seems to work better than the traditional narrow bottomed blender. I think you’re right about Darren hahaha.

    • @SailingSVSarean
      @SailingSVSarean  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stevie FordRanger Oh nice! I was given a stick blender however havent used it. I will give it a try as my bullet does struggle. Thanks for the tip!

    Why couldn't you just put back in the larger magnet ..and put the small broken piece in your odd bit and pieces jar .. it would have still worked ..ok ..

    • @SailingSVSarean
      @SailingSVSarean  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Michael Senior Yes we were pondering that option however apparently the armiture of the motor needs to meet the magnet at certain points. It likely may have worked we are not sure that it would have been quite as efficient. And in the end, as much as we try to up-cycle, we just wanted it to work properly.
