I have ridden this bike a couple of times now and found it to be excellent for my style of riding, and yes you could ride it all day. This would be my choice of all the new Triumphs if I was to buy one. Great review as always! Keep up the good work!
Finally got a test ride on one of these beauties yesterday. Got an excellent PX and accessories deal from the lovely people at Staffordshire Triumph so the order will be placed today (in silver of course, I'm with you on the matt paint). Thanks for the review. Tally bally ho!

Hi captain, I find you great to watch and very informative. I've loved the look of this new tiger sport and coveted one since they came out. Your test ride and remarks made me start looking for one in earnest. So on finding one and part exchanging my 2016 xc800 though only 10 moths old. Gotta love the Triumph triples! That 1050 engine is a stonker and there are aspects about my old Tiger 1050 that I miss - the stability in corners is a joy and that seat is very comfy. Not sure about that adjustable screen though! I think it's a lovely looking machine (but that of course is entirely subjective), I do wonder why they're not more popular. Is there a style of bike that somewhere in the range doesn't include the triple engine? Nice bike. Begs the question with hindsight should you have bought that instead of your 800, suppose so.
Yes, in hindsight, I would have preferred this to my Tiger 800... There was nothing WRONG with it, it's just that I rode it in bad weather so never really explored it's riding capabilities. Based on the newer version, it should still be a very good bike, especially if you need the upright position! :-)

Some good second hand versions already a year old should make it cheaper... Thanks for watching and I hope that I have helped.
I had a 2009 non ABS, they are truly great bikes. Rode mine from UK, across France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany...and back. All weathers, 150 miles mad dash in a monsoon, 100mph for 100 miles in lashing rain. Engine just whistled away. Used for commuting and Sunday rides as well. Things to watch out for? Lights, HID or LED conversion is pretty much mandatory. Chain adjustment, if it's not bang on, that is what causes the notchy gearbox. Standard seat foam can be slimmed at the sides if you have short legs, and lowering plates are available. Lowering the bike transforms the handling. Finish is excellent, I left it outside in France in 35c heat for months, and outside of work in UK every day in rain, snow and ice. The bike looked as clean as the day I bought it when I sold it.

Hi captain, thinking of getting the tiger sport myself.would you recommend buying this bike over say something more expensive like the multistrada or the bmw s1000xr
Um, I would like to say yes, but I haven't ridden either of the other two so I can not give you an informed opinion. By other people's reviews whom I trust, I believe the extra power of the BMW makes it a stand out favourite... But I can only advise you to test them yourself as they might all have different positions and behave very differently... Andrew Nichols No, I don't think it is I'm afraid. Although if you are completely smitten, I'm sure you could import it. After all, e sometimes import US cars...
imam glad some one has done a proper ride not the typical PR spew. if you would like to ride a 2010 version to compare you are welcome to have a play on mine.
I rode one in January last year and wasn't too complimentary to it. I believe it was because I wasn't used to a taller bike and that the roads were greasy so I couldn't give it full whack! But thanks for the offer! Maybe when we bump into each other sometime! :-) Thanks for watching!
+Captain Rambunctious most welcome..I do admit if the bike was not fly by wireless but straight cable connection I would consider buying one. but of course its not. I'm going to see if they do a special edition. like the 8ball version they did. looking g forward to seeing if the street triple 800 turns out true.
darren phillips The Street Triple 800 does seem to be on the cards. My dealer definitely seems to think so. 115bhp, 75 ftlbs torque, same weight bike... Nuts... :-)
I always liked this bike. It's the older pre-adventure version of the Tiger. Looks like its now been re-branded as 'sport.' They never did well over here and now discontinued, at least in coming to North America. I don't think American and Canadian riders warmed to chain maintenance when other bikes similar came with a shaft. I don't mind chains because it gets me looking at the bike and looking for other potential usage issues.
I see... Are chain drives that maligned in the US then? Shaft just adds weight, after all, it's not an adventure bike.. Also, I hear quite a lot of criticism about shaft drives and splines shearing... Maybe it's just some people's preferences and they are exaggerating to get their point across? Either way, I reckon belt drives are the best... Especially the newer ones that are inlaid with tungsten giving them a warranty of 120,000 miles!! That's better than a cam belt! The only con of these is stones, so just stay on the tarmac! :-) Thanks for watching and for the comment! :-)
Chain drives are not maligned. They perform the best. But when Honda, Yamaha, BMW, etc. offer shaft drives in this class of bike, you don't have to take a can of chain lube with you on a long trip. I have to admit after riding belt drives now, that's kind of nice.
I really hope this comes to the U.S. My Sprint ST can't last forever (or will it?), and the Trophy is just too big. My Speed Triple is fun, but this looks to be more commuter friendly.
It's a perfect balance between the Tiger 800 / Explorer / Sprint and Speed... Thanks for watching! So far, I don't think that Triumph ARE sending them to the US, but will see...
Not really Happy. I didn't intend to stir a controversy. I am a huge student of British/UK/Irish history. It is so under appreciated these days and even denigrated. British culture and its history are truly beautiful. As an American I will always stand with you. So Again I say with ebullience: Huzzah Britain! Britania Rules the Roads! TBH!
Thats lovely to hear! Ebullience?! I haven't heard that word for a while! Excellent use of it. I suppose I'm forever being ebullient when I should Tally Bally Ho!
Great and happy going review, really enjoyed it. wouldn't leave my riding jacket on the ground though, here in Oz you'd have sissle snakey under your armpits in no time. haha
Ha ha! I'm sure that I would know that if I were there! :-) Thanks for the advice though, will remember it if I ever get to ride over there! :-) Thanks for watching! :-)
Tally Ho CR I am interested in this as I owned one of the original ones and quite liked it before I traded it in for my GS. Really like not having to adjust a chain. Sadder sorry is my mate brought a Tiger Sport when it came out and met me at a café after owning it for an hour and dropped it in the car park Ouch thankfully we both can laugh about it now.Apparently I am on my last bike according to my wife but if I can get her to think different I might try and get a test ride myself.
It's definitely worth a test ride. Much lighter and more flickable than the old tiger sport. I don't know how it compares to the GS, as I haven't yet ridden the GS, but it's definitely a step up from the old tiger sport... Yes, the chain can be a pain when you are not used to doing it, but the centre stand definitely helps.. And it would be easier to filter than the GS just due to size difference! Good luck and thank you for the story! Sounds like most people's worst nightmares, dropping a new bike... Better if it's just a demo bike... ;-) Thanks for watching and for the comment! Tally Bally Ho!
First video seeing your face, was expecting at least a monocle ;-) Would you recommend a helmet with the build in sun visor, i wear glasses if that changes anything about it. I just started my riding lessons and need to get a good helmet soon, because those smelly lend helmets suck.
one piece of advice. don't sacrifice quality for features like flip down sun visors. After 30 years of biking I've learned (amongst many othet things) that you need to buy the best fitting and highest quality helmet that your budget will stretch to :)
Thanks for the info, certainly fit is going to have to have the highest priority. The sun visor would be nice to have so i won't have to switch glasses. From some browsing the Shark Evo One looks like a nice helmet so i'm going to try to find a local dealer that has those.
yes I use a Schuberth C3 pro for day to day riding. It's very comfy and quiet, and the sunvisor works a treat. Plus it's a modular lid (flippy fronty job) so I can recommend one of those
Ah, well they've remedied that issue. I found the older one to be a bit lacking in power and felt a bit flat, but this one is nice and lively... Thanks for watching and for the comment! :-)
Ha ha! Excellent point! :-) I was jabbering away far to easily... It shows how much concentration is actually needed to ride a bike and talk at the same time! Utter gibberish really does floweth out! :-)
Are they thinking about sending it over some time soon though? THat's a big shame. It's my favourite road going tiger... Thank you for watching and commenting.
Thank you. Yes, it is a bit weird, but I suppose you could get used to it. I remember feeling the same way about my old Tiger 800, but got used to it... Don't have it now of course... Thanks for watching!
Ha ha! Yes, one needs to be clean shaven for work these days! It is an excellent road bike... That's all there is to say about it really... Thanks for watching chap! :-)
the lights are just wrong. I converted my headlight to hid. Potty there is not Led like the new other models. I have a giving tall screen fitted and seams good and wind is directed round myself better.
I see. Cool about the screen... Yes, no idea why they haven't put the same time and effort in on the Tiger Sport that they have with the other Tigers and new Bonnevilles... Seems very weird....
+Captain Rambunctious totally true. if you look at the market all the other manufacturers now have the same format as the tiger 1050. It was ahead of the curve for years before the verses, multistrada, s1000xr etc. so why now do they let them selves down now???.
Very nice lively maching and morphs in style as you go round it. I don't know why they call it matt black, surely it's satin otherwise every finger print would remain forever. Yet another excellent review Sir and at one point it reminded me of John Cleese's Sex Education class in school. TBH :)
Ha ha! I have a few people that I idolise, Rik Mayall of course, but the Monty Python lot too... :-) Thank you, and thank you for watching! Honoured as always... Tally Bally Ho!
Enjoyed that though I am starting to worry that this channel is becoming one long Ad for Triumph Bikes and is losing the fun of ride outs that used to be there. I hope Triumph are taking a leaf out of Honda's book and developing their engines over time rather than reinventing them every couple of years. By doing that Honda have produced some amazing engine kit that lasts for years and can take anything you can throw at them really. I am glad this is beakless. A beak on this would have utterly ruined the looks of it. I find the colours a little dull and boring for a Sport but that could be changed by the owner pretty easily. At least it does not look like that 1200 Triumph Thruxton R whose colour scheme was dreamed up by a 16 year old designer after a weekend on E. Incidently, my mate Bernie let me ride his Triumph 1200 Thruxton R for a couple of hours last Saturday. Took it up to the back roads of Biggin Hill where I could give it some welly and find her limits. She shakes her head about if you push her hard and her arse gets all out of shape but she goes like a whore on crack and handles beautifully. I felt like I was riding what I imagine Joanna Lumley would have been like in her twenties. Smooth, sophisticated, gentle, and responsive to ride but, push her up to the envelope and she becomes a snarling animal that has to be tamed firmly. However, the seat made my arse feel like Graham frigging Norton had been at it for half a day when I took the bike back. I finally understood why Bernie has been doing a John Wayne walk since he bought the thing. Watching the walk around I imagined a huge Brummie biker (for some reason) standing in a showroom having the stats read to him by an enthusiastic, skinny and tiny salesman in a suit that is far too big for him with a face full of pimples and breath that smells of garlic bread, even at 9:00am. At the end of what seems like half a day of techno waffle the Brummie looms over him and says, "Yam am good at reading like. So, does it go like fook, or what?" I wonder how long it will be before this comes to Triumphs: www.mirror.co.uk/lifestyle/motoring/honda-nc750x-motorcycle-review-3263340
Yes, I would definitely have upgraded to this from the Tiger 800 XRT if I had stayed with Tigers... But they HAD to build the Thruxton R didn't they... ;-) Thank you for watching my friend... :-)
When they are first put on they look like angels with "halos". When they are bedded in they become "demons".. Have a look at them. Curious how they'd last on a bike of that Magnitude.
shaun wilson Yes, they are Pirelli Angels. I zoomed in on a few of my photos... I don't know about anyone who's run them very far yet, but maybe my local dealer has heard some ideas? I'll try to ask and find out...

Andrew Nichols No, I don't think it is I'm afraid. Although if you are completely smitten, I'm sure you could import it. After all, e sometimes import US cars...
Great comedic review. Please come to the US and do some stand up!!! Thanks so much.....Sal
Keep em coming Captain, good job :-)
Thank you Wez! :-)
I like this a lot 😊. I'd surely want one, nicer looking than the Non-Sport Tigers.
I'm going to need a lottery win to complete my garage now! Yet another bloody must have Triumph ;-)
There do seem to be quite a few! :-)
Very good, thank you Captain. This one is a contender for me.
You're welcome! I hope you like whatever you get! :-)
imam glad some one has done a proper ride not the typical PR spew. if you would like to ride a 2010 version to compare you are welcome to have a play on mine.
I rode one in January last year and wasn't too complimentary to it. I believe it was because I wasn't used to a taller bike and that the roads were greasy so I couldn't give it full whack!
But thanks for the offer! Maybe when we bump into each other sometime! :-)
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching and for the comment! :-)
Chain drives are not maligned. They perform the best. But when Honda, Yamaha, BMW, etc. offer shaft drives in this class of bike, you don't have to take a can of chain lube with you on a long trip. I have to admit after riding belt drives now, that's kind of nice.
***** Ah, gotcha...
loving that triple roar
It's quite infectious..
Huzzah Britain!!!!!!! Imperial measurements and BREXIT!
Mildly political! ;-)
TBH!
thats was not "happy" but Cappy!
Thats lovely to hear! Ebullience?! I haven't heard that word for a while! Excellent use of it. I suppose I'm forever being ebullient when I should Tally Bally Ho!
Triumph, In name and nature.
So in the UK riders arent greeting each other because they ride on the wrong side of the road
Mihael Berzak oh we are, we just nod hilariously!
@@CaptainRambunctious love the looks of the sport tho, im 205cm ~ 6 ft 7 inches do you thing it would fit me?
Great and happy going review, really enjoyed it.
wouldn't leave my riding jacket on the ground though, here in Oz
you'd have sissle snakey under your armpits in no time. haha
Ha ha! I'm sure that I would know that if I were there! :-) Thanks for the advice though, will remember it if I ever get to ride over there! :-)
Thanks for watching!
Better if it's just a demo bike... ;-)
Thanks for watching and for the comment! Tally Bally Ho!
Capn my Tracers a bloody great all rounder agreed?
Jolly good stuff, might have to take this one out as well as the Explorer. I'm off on Friday so I'll see what I can try :)
Already arranging this dear fellow! :-)
My tiger se is wonderful 2010 and I run it harder than my speed triple I think one for each individual ride
Nice review. I am undecided about this bike, does it make you smile?
It does, but nowhere near as much as a Daytona or my Thruxton! Immensely capable and fast and fun and comfortable...
First video seeing your face, was expecting at least a monocle ;-)
Would you recommend a helmet with the build in sun visor, i wear glasses if that changes anything about it.
I just started my riding lessons and need to get a good helmet soon, because those smelly lend helmets suck.
Ah, the monocle does not allow me to judge distances and speeds properly... ;-)
Yes for the sun visor, every time... :-)
one piece of advice. don't sacrifice quality for features like flip down sun visors. After 30 years of biking I've learned (amongst many othet things) that you need to buy the best fitting and highest quality helmet that your budget will stretch to :)
VeeFour Ah, yes, this is most important! I would recommend either Shark or Schuberth if you must have a sun visor...
Plus it's a modular lid (flippy fronty job) so I can recommend one of those
I had a slightly older 1050 Tiger and liked it for the most part but....upshifting was a bit notchy and below Japanese standards
Ah, well they've remedied that issue. I found the older one to be a bit lacking in power and felt a bit flat, but this one is nice and lively...
Thanks for watching and for the comment! :-)
I might have gone for one of these over my 800 if this version had been available last year.
By the way the density of oil is less than water, otherwise it wouldn't float on water. All pilots should know this ha ha.
And people wonder why I keep changing bikes all the time! They keep bringing out bikes that I want! :-)
Ha ha! Excellent point! :-) I was jabbering away far to easily... It shows how much concentration is actually needed to ride a bike and talk at the same time! Utter gibberish really does floweth out! :-)
Cant beat a Triumph, just wish they would resolve the sprag clutch issue with there triples, having just had mine done lol.
What's wrong with it? (Sorry for the late reply, been busy..)
nice bike that one is sir but aarrgh I have to keep my Good ol' Tracer and its too bloody wet to ride this week
Yes, it's horrible this week! Even worse for flying!
Tally bally ho huzzah Captain agreed old chum
Keep all of um , Guitar Rider Tiger . Thanks
It's a shame we can't get the 1050 in the U.S. anymore!
Are they thinking about sending it over some time soon though?
THat's a big shame. It's my favourite road going tiger...
Thank you for watching and commenting.
Bike review and bedroom advice, what more could one ask?
Ha ha! I'm not sure! :-)
that toe in thing on the gear shifter would annoy me. I had the same problem when I tried the ktm super adventure. good review
Thank you. Yes, it is a bit weird, but I suppose you could get used to it. I remember feeling the same way about my old Tiger 800, but got used to it... Don't have it now of course...
Thanks for watching!
Captain Rambunctious
welded a small extention to the lever.
Nice ride review Cpt, not my sort of thing but I can appreciate it's uses, it would appear that one Tash as fell off bro, lol, RSM8.
Only thing that I can think is cost? An extra £300 at Triumph prices? Would that make a huge difference in the market against its rivals?
+Captain Rambunctious
totally true. if you look at the market all the other manufacturers now have the same format as the tiger 1050. It was ahead of the curve for years before the verses, multistrada, s1000xr etc. so why now do they let them selves down now???.
I wish Triumph would have imported the Tiger Sport 1050 to the U.S.
I have a feelng that when you leave your house, you tell your dear lady wife " smoke me a kipper, I'll be home for breakfast! "
Yes! Every time! 😊
superocean heritage... very nice
Very well spotted! :-) I love the older styles... :-)
Love your work, I am getting a Tiger Sports 1050 2015 model.. Cant wait.
Superb! Nice choice. Enjoy! :-) Thank you for watching and for the lovely comment...
too late we saw your face :)
cheers mate
Very nice lively maching and morphs in style as you go round it.
I don't know why they call it matt black, surely it's satin otherwise every finger print would remain forever.
Yet another excellent review Sir and at one point it reminded me of John Cleese's Sex Education class in school. TBH :)
Ha ha! I have a few people that I idolise, Rik Mayall of course, but the Monty Python lot too... :-)
Thank you, and thank you for watching! Honoured as always... Tally Bally Ho!
I pretty much missed all Rik Mayall's stuff...I must've been shagging a lot at the time :D
Hepcat Harley Some top level shagging...
Love it!
So, does it go like fook, or what?"
I wonder how long it will be before this comes to Triumphs: www.mirror.co.uk/lifestyle/motoring/honda-nc750x-motorcycle-review-3263340
Oh my! I theyd have released this in the States I'd have one instead of the T800 B-)
Yes, I would definitely have upgraded to this from the Tiger 800 XRT if I had stayed with Tigers... But they HAD to build the Thruxton R didn't they... ;-)
Thank you for watching my friend... :-)
Bugger another one to add to my list to test ride ;)
As always!
Splendid to finally meet you dear chap! Sorry it was so short lived... I'll have to repay the favour and come up to Derby! :-)
Put a shout out old boy if your up this way, love to meet up for a blast.
Plopracer I will indeed! :-) Thank you for the invitation!
Pffft. I've flown a plane loads of times online, and I hardly ever crash :)
Ha ha ha! :-)
Great review as always, thank you. might well be my next bike....I even like the black!
Excellent. It even grew on me over the time! :-) It is a lovely bike...
linda mesmo
Get some proper tyres on it! Great bike porker🪐
pirelli angels?
Bugger, not sure... I knew I should have checked something... I'll have a look...
You get used to it with your toe (shifting gears) 😉 did a testride of 2 hours. Any other women riding this bike? 🏍️💃🏍️
nice video
Thank you for watching Jake.
Looks like a shark! And the bike looks nice too! Ha ha! Sorry about that. I do find the bike quite aggressive in its appearance, which I like. Comfy, is it? Tata!
Very comfy, all day long... Very capable with lots of punch. I liked it.
Thank you captain! Keep up the very good work. It's a pleasure to watch your films. Tomorrow is a whole-day-long-trip with the mates. Lovely! Only me on a Triumph, only me on a triple. Tata!
John Mård Fantastic! Enjoy! :-) I did a full 10 hour day in the saddle yesterday! :-)
We are so lucky! I sometimes wonder what i would do if the motorcycle wasn't invented... Scary thoughts! Right now I'm watching a film called "Spotted, squirted, defiled & updated". Old Thrusty and filtering song! Tata!
John Mård Ha ha! That was a fun one! :-)
"hazard lights... won't need those, it's not a Harley" My new forum call sign - full credit to you.
Ha ha! Thank you...
Glad you enjoyed it!
So, what I’ve learnt is that it’s not a Speed Triple...
Spot on! Although in a lot of ways it is. Maybe a practical speed triple...
@@CaptainRambunctious lol, good man. It still seems like you enjoyed it. I’ve got my eye on a new one at £8995 on the road....but then I’ve also got a mortgage to pay etc. Can’t have it all I guess. All the best.
"Matt Paint" . sounds like a private investigator.
Excellent point! :-)
I heard you say your 6'1"so my assumption was correct
Spot on!
I used to be 6' but I've lost an inch and a half due to wore out back and hjoints so if you are tight on it I should fit
Russell Cupples You should be fine! :-)
I really want a Rocket 3 to be honest
Russell Cupples Have you seen my Rocket III hooning video?! th-cam.com/video/GQFK_9sL4T0/w-d-xo.html
You should definitely get one if you can!
Captain are you a big man ?? If not the way you fuss about footing if a big man got on some of these bikes they wouldn't fit .
Captain, you are trying too hard. Relax!
Cider Press maybe I’m more relaxed these days than in my earlier videos...
great video 😀crisis lol
Ha ha! Thank you... :-)
damn it... I wasn't first
;-)
well that got questionable REAL quick lol
I have no idea what you mean... ;-)
Captain Rambunctious haha lol :D and thats why I love you :) lol
I used to like watching your vids ...but i wont bother anymore on the back of the derogatory comments you made in this one ..shame ... your ex (French) fan ....unsubscribed
I'm very sorry to hear that... All derogatory comments are always made in jest...
Ride safe...
Not a road bike baby boo boo but not a sports bike
First time I have watched one of your reviews. It will be the last.
Fair enough. But thanks for watching!
Poor man's s1000xr, Dated
Is it dated? I think that the Missenden Flyer would disagree with you, and I think he prefers this over the BMW, but when it comes to choosing between these bikes, it really only comes down to minor details and preferences, rather than money. I wouldn't bring money into it, as they are both good bikes!
Thanks for watching and for your comment... :-)
Ride safely.
Yes, Looks and technology the tiger is a relic
Captain Rambunctious
Sir what watch are you wearing?
This is a better bike than the bmw by the way
