@@21Darkdeath Apparently it's a bug, he recorded that line with a bunch of different inflections, and they used the one where Shepard's boyfriend dies regardless of your relationship or his survival.
Love this….it reflects one aspect of human life. Love is love…is love…well, you get the idea. Plus, I get off on how natural and realistic the characters are. The more humanistic they are, the better. Kudos to the designers.
I really really enjoyed this romance. I think the way it goes from helping someone and becoming their friend to having romantic feelings is very natural. I also like that Shepard doesn't have flirty dialogue until Steve has shown he is ready for a new relationship. It was fun to see how flirty they are (esp. Steve) outside of missions, and sometimes during the missions they kinda slip up and use names instead of ranks. I've always liked Steve as a character and this playthrough made me adore him even more.
This is a great romance. It doesn't matter who one loves as long as they are happy. Also since this is kind of a war/action/game, when one is in the trenches or has Dracula after you, no one gives a happy damn who the man/woman or the total stranger helping you out from the critter who wants you for dinner literally is sleeping with. All they want from that person is to hold up their end by having their back where everyone gets home safely. Just let folk be.
Thank you for this video! I like to headcanon that Steve is already a little attracted to Shepard, from all the vids and fame beforehand, and when they meet, those feelings come back despite himself. But experiencing those feelings in person with Shepard also brings back survivor's guilt and grief for his husband, and so he has to work through all of that again. Shepard unwittingly reopens the wound but then also helps him deal with all of those complicated emotions of loss, guilt, attraction, etc. When Steve is later able to truly move on, it's like he can finally take a clean fresh breath of air for the first time in a long time. Even for a male Shepard who isn't romancing him, I like this headcanon because it lends a few layers to some of Steve's lines and their overall caring dynamic, if Shepard talks him through the grieving process. A non-romanced Steve ends up moving on past Robert and Shepard alike, while a romanced Steve moves on past the grief and guilt and allows himself to live those feelings for Shepard openly and honestly. It's not a rebound, imo, but being able to finally close one book and pick up another. Side note: I don't usually like it when NPCs fawn over the PC, but in Steve's case and Thane's case, I like to headcanon an existing attraction before Shepard flirts, since otherwise, the flirting dialogue feels almost comically oddly timed by Shepard. ("I lost the love of my life." "We'll bang, okay?")
This is so awesome! Love the fact that it's Steve and Shepard this time. I prefer Shepard and Kaidan together, but this made me smile! This is beautiful too ❤!
James actually is one of my favourite ME characters. I know he isn't popular but I've always liked him (but it seems like all my faves are the less popular ones lol). Besides, he's very useful, I don't think he has ever even died in my games and I've played ME3 on insanity several times.
Totally understandable. Despite playing the ME games many times I still get overwhelmed every time I play the final mission Priority: Earth. So many feels.
Just my personal input, I think Steve would've been a better romance pick of they cut out his husband entirely and just made him the awesome pilot that he is and some other great personality points outside just the hanger talks. The fact that he and Shepard begin their relationship while Steve is still grieving over his husband have me bad rebound vibes. It's still got that he can open up and love again but it didn't feel natural in the time frame it happened. (Yeah I know Reapers, end of world, we'll bang okay! 😅 changes things.) Least we got Kaidan, wish James would've been on that list too lol but he only gets Ash and Drunk FemShep onesies.
A valid opinion. They could have made him grieve for someone else instead if they really wanted to take that route, maybe a close friend or other family member. I did actually enjoy the romance (maybe 'cause I really like Steve as a character), but I can see why not everyone vibes with it. It is fast-paced. I'm just glad the dialogue options when Steve is still clearly processing the loss and learning to heal aren't horny ones.
I love this pairing. Steve should have been the one that came and got him from the sushi place shootout. They could like fix that part because it would make more sense. With the voice actor for Steve it would have added more spice. Besides, Shep getting shot at and his boyfriend Steve doesn't show up until later, sitting in an empty room in a bar at that. And also can't accompany him to the Kahn gala nor be picked on his team in the Spectre vault. Also, on a side issue, why can't Shep regardless of gender sat down or lie down in his/her room/apartment when they want? I mean that's stupid.
Thank you! Tbh I can't play anything but default Mshep. I've tried, and I've seen some good-looking male Sheps, but they just don't feel right to me and when I don't like how my character looks playing becomes a chore 😅But I'm not judging people who do create custom male Shep. People can play however they want. I don't have this problem with FemShep though. I guess I just really really like how default Mshep looks.
Thank you for sharing your perspective! It's completely understandable that sticking to the default MShep feels most comfortable for you, as it helps maintain that sense of connection and immersion in the game. When you're attached to how your character looks, playing becomes a more enjoyable experience, and that's what gaming is all about - having fun! I absolutely agree that everyone has their own preferences, and there's no right or wrong way to play. People should feel free to create custom male Sheps or play any way they like. It's all about finding what resonates with you personally.
