Great video man also quickly becoming one of my favorite channels! Greg at mkt is working on a flipper now! I am waiting to see that before I make an order.
Jim, I really enjoy your videos and you are quickly becoming one of my favorite channels. It started with your Chris Martin Umnumzaan and now I can't stop re-watching your videos lol. I bet you could probably make a tool for the Yuna by having 2 pegs on a little wood block.
Thank you very much for the offer. For whatever reason, the Assassin doesn't do it for me as much as some of his others. GLWS, I'm sure it will go FAST!
Another great video. I like the way you cover a whole class of knives. I love flippers, too, but I only have a couple. Got started (mumble) years ago on thumb studs, so every time I pull out a flipper, I fumble for a second before I figure it out. But I still love 'em.
Beautiful collection, way out of my price range but I enjoy seeing them. My first flipper was a Kershaw Chive follwed quickly by a CRKT Hammond Cruiser. I like the flipper designs over other methods but I'll buy anything that takes my fancy although at the moment they have to be on the lower end of the price scale. My last flipper is an Enlan EL-01, inexpensive, not cheap, there is a difference, but a tank of a knife that is well designed and put together. Keep on with the videos, great stuff.
I know what the mechanics for in the push button vs. light switch flipper deployment. The rocker ones are almost on top of the pivot, and the push button ones are much farther back.
Hey I have only just really found you it brings a tear to my eye knowing all these amazing knives you can get in the states and because of the dam laws in Australia I can not get FLIPPERS here. I wont a Brous Division Flipper but dam customs. I live on a farm in Australia so I use knife everyday and recently snapped my edc so I need a new knife. I have the passion for knifes and watches. Thank you for uploading these videos it gives me the opportunity to see thing I might never get to see
I totally agree on your point about less parts, i've really gotten off my auto obsession. well, i've kind of quit buying any blades in deference to Knifemaking supplies. Thanks for sharing.
Hey Jim great videos man thanks for the wonderful work!I have some questions for you.Are you a fan of Anso's knives and do you own any,if so will you make a video of some of them? Also the same questions for Snody,Les George,Southard,Jake hoback and Sniper bladeworks. All the best Dean from Bulgaria.
Holy crap, someone else with a Maxx Q! Slowly working my way through your stuff and am really considering a Bodega FG or Will Moon Mark 7 for the 'next level' above the CRK Umnum I picked up last year.
I'm by no means a knife expert, but I have a pretty good knowledge of physics, especially mechanics. It seems like flippers that are up in front of the pivot (towards the blade) are easier to "rock", while the "push button" type flippers are further back (providing a longer, slower lever). I guess the Silent Soldier flipper is designed that way to make for a proper choil?
For EDC I prefer my knife to utilize the Emerson wave feature, a Karambit finger ring is also a plus. When I'm at home, I don't have a preference how the knife opens except for a few exceptions. I haven't found an OTF I like yet and generally I don't like butterfly's or switch blade types. Nothing really weird, but most everything else is fair game, flippers, spring assisted, praetorian style, etc.
Goodstuff. Flippers are fun and definitely have a cool factor. Not my first choice as a defensive blade but still a great fast way to deploy the blade. Definitely the hot trend lately.
Try having numb hands and not being able to feel your hands, from being cold and wet, (pre frost bite) (it can happen in 45-50 F degree weather) and try opening a thumb stud, a thumb hole, and a flipper. Manual and spring assist. I think with numb hands from the cold, I think a flipper would be the easiest to open.
Haha I just came from your vid of the Praetorian that you won! Congrats! But when you said "if the detent isnt right..." and "its a flipper that doesnt flip!" all I could think of was Hinderer lol.
Thats one of the cooler Wilumson's iv seen. I love IKBS. I had a period where I was worried about what would happen to the frame over time but nothing has happened so far so... Only knife I have with it is a Korth so I expected it to be perfect.
My favorite flipper is my $45.00 Kershaw RAM. There is no other flipper that makes that sound when it opens. Its sounds like a gun being charged. It flys open and the detent is the best I have felt. There is NO drag on the blade because of the HAWK lock system. I wish they made more knives like the RAM.
good vid jim!i like flippers as well they r just so fun to play with.i dont own any customs but my favorites that i own are my southard, zt560, Leek and bm 470 .my wife asked me if i have a nervous twitch problem because i flip my blades and i tell her that this is the reason why i quite smoking ciggaretts. i flip instead now she thinks its a good thing
what would be the cheapest GOOD flipper to buy for EDC, and when i say cheapest i dont mean cheap garbage, but in the good quality range, what would be the lowest cost one availabe, midtech or custom,
Steel Ball bearings have a rockwell hardness around 68. These bearings are grinding on titanium (no matter what knife it is). So you have 68 grinding on 45 hardness titanium. Do you think something might get eaten away over time? There is an obvious advantage to ceramic bearings due to them not destroying your titanium handle over time. Bronze washers ftw.
Ceramic bearings are much harder than steel actually. But to answer your question, most makers put a hardened steel race (like a steel washer) into the pocket for the bearings to contact instead of the titanium.
I wish those washers were in all knives but unfortunately companies like zero tolerance usually do not have this feature. I have seen videos of peoples knives with shavings of titanium coming out of them when they are taken apart from those bearings. Its kind of scary.
Hey I'm right there with you! I have used knives forever and had all types but as far as folders go, I only have flippers now. The deployment and added safety is paramount. I have to say great video, although I really don't know how you can talk about flippers and not have an RJ Martin. He is the master at flippers.
I like flippers a lot more because they just seem to be more intuitive. When I grab my knife, from my pocket, my index always ends up landing right where the flipper is. There is no shifting of the knife to where i can position my thumb onto the stud and then proceed to toss the blade out..IMO flippers are just easier to use. :)
Jim, I like the way you do your reviews, you talk about knives as you were talking about a master artwork made it by God himself, I have in back order my division flipper and it is no my grail but I think it is a good start, keep the excellent reviews coming out!
Hey man, I flip over flippers too. Not that I can afford any of these uber unearthly knives, I still love any good flipper that is within my budget. thanks for the vid.
If you didn’t sell the junkyard dog already how much do you want for it? Do you have the box? I am a Kershaw discontinued collector strictly silver boxes only I’m salivating over that junkyard dog
Cool video...Although I only have 3 flippers, among a crap-ton of folders, flippers will be the majority purchase in future. For me flippers also fall into the 'gadget' realm and I like my gadgets!!!
Hey Jim (or other viewers). I'm interested in getting a knife, but I've never owned one before. I've been watching your videos for about a week now and you know a lot about knives so I wanted to ask if you could help me. I'd like to get a cheap for every day use and personal protection for under $100, preferably a flipper. I also love the smooth and organic style reminiscent of Stan Wilson's work. Do you think there's something like that for me?
Donald Evans Donald is right. When I made my first comment, the Vanguard Intrepid/Gemini series weren't out yet. Now that they're out, they are easily the best flipper under $100
The fewer parts u have the less things can go wrong:D says the guy who loves watches, but its very true, and for some reason the spring assisted knives feels kinda cheap in my opinion, dunno why but yeah
I love Anso's handles, not a big fan of his blade style. I won't give $nody my money (not going into the story), am buying a Les George VECP soon, never find the Sniper that I want, and am not sure which Hoback I want yet
Yes, nail on head. It's all about skill some have it, some don't. All about form, quality of the flick not quantity. Placing your finger flicker on the nub and Willy nilly jabbing about until something starts to happen, then finish it off with a quick wrist flick & smile. NO... not quality remember the old saying "slow is fast & fast is slow".
Really wild how after only a decade you can now get the same action as these thousand dollar+ knives on something under $50
Great video man also quickly becoming one of my favorite channels! Greg at mkt is working on a flipper now! I am waiting to see that before I make an order.
this is quickly becoming my favourite channel! Congrats
Jim,
I really enjoy your videos and you are quickly becoming one of my favorite channels. It started with your Chris Martin Umnumzaan and now I can't stop re-watching your videos lol. I bet you could probably make a tool for the Yuna by having 2 pegs on a little wood block.
dude, you're pretty much my new favorite knife reviewer on youtube! ( and i watch knife vids everyday) keep up the good reviews
I totally understand Jim. When I started making folders, I started with flippers because I just love them.
Yes, it is now called the Division Flipper. Check my other two videos on it...
Thank you! That was a Kershaw Shallot that was custom etched
Thank you very much for the offer. For whatever reason, the Assassin doesn't do it for me as much as some of his others. GLWS, I'm sure it will go FAST!

Hey Jim, I just love your knives and your passion for for collecting fantastic gems like these. Oh yea, the videos are top notch too!
Thanks for the great reply.I', looking forward to the VECP video thanks!
Who else is binge watching Jim Skelton videos
I always watch lol
Little confused is the Divine now the division knife and I just put my pre order in for the framlock silent solider 2 flipper. Love your channel
Jim for a proprietary pivot use two paper clips glued to a wooden skewer with ducktape wrapped around it use a lot of ducktape hope I could help
Beautiful collection, way out of my price range but I enjoy seeing them.

I hear that. But I hope you do get one to see your thoughts comparing it to the others you have.
Hey I have only just really found you it brings a tear to my eye knowing all these amazing knives you can get in the states and because of the dam laws in Australia I can not get FLIPPERS here. I just remembered!! Kershaw Tone, and you can get it at Academy Sports. I will add an annotation to the video now...

I really like your channel dude, it is well done and you have a great selection.
Great overview of those flippers. Someday I'll be able to make a flipper, not just fixed blades. Great vid
Chuck
I am uploading a for sale vid right now... and the Mikkel proto is in there. Should be uploaded within the hour...
Try having numb hands and not being able to feel your hands, from being cold and wet, (pre frost bite) (it can happen in 45-50 F degree weather) and try opening a thumb stud, a thumb hole, and a flipper. Thanks a lot, much appreciated. Yes I am a member, but I just kind of read and soak it in rather than post.
Sorry, sold it weeks ago. I do have a sale vid up on my channel though, and have a couple remaining
Excellent video Jim. Recently subbed and have been enjoying your videos. You have some stunning knives!
Haha I just came from your vid of the Praetorian that you won! Congrats!

Thanks bud... i am trying SOOOO hard
Love this channel! Best sub in a while. What knife was that back one to the left with the skulls?
Hooray for flippers! I've got a couple coming from mosier that can rival if not best the bodega in terms of flipping

David Mosier sure makes some amazing knives, no doubt about it.

Thanks Erni!

+Matthew Talsazan beggknives.com/
Medford does make a flipper it's called the TFF-2
Damn man, what do you do? Your swimming in customs and I'm here with my spyderco sage 1. lol I'm just pulling on your leg, you rock man
What? No custom Southard? Jim, you're slacking.. :)
Hey man, I flip over flippers too. Not that I can afford any of these uber unearthly knives, I still love any good flipper that is within my budget. thanks for the vid.
Do you like cold steel knives at all ?
How badly does there need to be a Spyderco Sage flipper?! (Well, I guess the Domino is that, pretty much, but I'd still like to see a Sage flipper)
thats what i was thinking
damn that's a good idea. The Sage series celebrates lock varieties, but why not one with a flipper?
If you didn’t sell the junkyard dog already how much do you want for it? Do you have the box? I am a Kershaw discontinued collector strictly silver boxes only I’m salivating over that junkyard dog
I love flippers keep making vids ur awesome and ur collection is freaking amazing
Thanks man. Yeah, he is doing a flipper now, but not a Praetorian :-(
Oh man, that Yuna makes me so happy!
A selection of great flippers, very nice
I can watch your vids for hours
Another useful video. Thank you.
It's on the list man, believe me. But that list is verrrry long right now lol
Def prefer flippers too. Ease of use and very intuitive.
I'm interested in the junk yard dog. How Much ??
Indeed, I am not changing it!
Cool video...Although I only have 3 flippers, among a crap-ton of folders, flippers will be the majority purchase in future. For me flippers also fall into the 'gadget' realm and I like my gadgets!!!
***** Hello...And style, flick, flick, flick...xxx
Love your vids man, love that lightfoot too.

+Richmond Boswell CRKT Foresight. I realize it's been three months since this comment, but hopefully this still reaches you.
Check out Kizer knives and the Ray Laconico collabs. Vanguard Gemini and Intrepid. Bout $80 or so
Donald Evans Donald is right.

I prefer thumb stud and hole but that's just me. Flippers are fun only when watching tv.
Love the long the long vids
wish i had money enuf to email you for one of your super cool knives very nice knives
Whats that ring your wearing man
LOL. Too many great knives out there, not enough time or discretionary funds to own them all :-(
Oh hell yeah... we should talk SOON! lol
I've never had a flipper, it might just be a phase but I'm loving spyderco's solution.
You make some awesome videos.
i love this channel!
verry well put for not knowing exactly why you like them
take care
Did you sell your junk yard?
This was pre-Mokuti Dominator I see
Love the video thanks
Great video. My wife is going to kill me, when I start ordering some of these knives.
keep tha background for your future videos :) nice-clear-cool
Ohhhhhh, do tell!
You used a different voice there for a second.
What is that skull
I really like my ripples there high quality and cheap. Flippers tend to be much more satisfying to me and mucj faster deploy
