    This is so cool - I just happened upon this video and couldnt believe its interviewee - I used to hang out in this guys neighborhood for years on the Forest River in Savannah sometimes catching a quick glimpse of one of the incredible Ferraris that would speed by past my friends house and on down to the secluded private property where this family lived. Great lil movie and wonderful story about a mutual love for these incredible machines...God, I miss Savannah and Back Street and the Forest River...paradise.

    In my opinion the Berlinetta Boxer is the most beautiful Ferrari ever. (I was a teenager in the early to mid eighties)
    And in black it still looks otherworldly nearly 40 years on. Bellissimo!!

    I too am an owner. it is a 180 degree v-12 and not to be confused with a proper flat 12.

      I get that the firing order is different than most “flat” engines, but BOXER is even in the damn name. 180° isn’t a V, it’s a flat line.

    Jay,the engine is a boxer, an opposed configuration, not a vee, Thus it is not a V12 --that is why it is a BB, a Berlinetta BOXER, You of all people should know better. I knew your Dad and imported the BB 512s, maybe the very one you are driving..

    He talks about the smell of the "Italian leather." Well, the leather is English from Connolly. Of course, he also seems to believe his car has a V12, which is also incorrect.

      Hmm, it actually does say F-12 or Flat Twelve ie. "Boxer 12", hence the acronym "BB" (Berlinetta Boxer). Maybe check again :)

      +pezzonovante888 Well for a true italian style Ferrari weren't honest either. It's a very wide 180 degree V12 aka. flat 12 that shares the crankpins for two pistons and ain't a true boxer engine.

    Really, the 512bb is a boxer 12. Not v12. Maybe you should peak under the hood sometimes, while waxing the car ;D %12bb stands for: five liter 12cylinder berlinetta boxer.

    He sounds like a guy I met at a local cars and coffee with a new Ferrari. I asked him how many cylinders under the hood, he said he didn't know, he just picked it up from the dealer yesterday...

  • @imbluz

    This guy was blessed to have such a cool father who had impeccable taste in cars. Yea, the 512BBI was one helluva looker. Too bad it didn't exceed the popularity of the 308 series. I guess Magnum PI took the accolades and ran with that model which bestowed a limited image of Ferrari to the public. But the 512BBI would see itself as passé once the 288 GTO hit the market in 84' and 85', which was a better and faster car than the 512. Then, unfortunately, one of the ugliest Ferraris had to rear it's head, the Testarozza. That body design was not Pinnanfrina's best. They should have kept the 512BBI body style with that newer and improved motor.

      Disagree with you. The testarossa looks awesome, dramatic and unmistakeable that you wouldn't get all the previous stupid comments of "pity this guy doesn't know he hasn't got a v12"... They'd probably instead comment "pity this guy doesn't know he has a Pontiac Fiero"..

    "There the only cars I know anything about". Then why don't you
    know what kind of engine it has in it?

    • @owlcritic
      @owlcritic 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      EXACTLY! its a "flat" twelve, not a " V " twelve, hence the name boxxer, because the pistons are comming at each other at 180 degrees, just like two boxxers swapping punches.

    • @Impulsegt1
      @Impulsegt1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      quote from wikipedia "Flat-12 engines are generally not true horizontally opposed engines (boxer), but rather 180° V-engines. A true boxer has one crank pin per piston, while in the 180° V-engine, two opposing pistons share the same crank pin."

    • @pschierhorn
      @pschierhorn 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It's technically a 180 degree V12, a boxer would have a different crankshaft setup (in a V, two pistons share a crank, while in a boxer each one has its own - Ferrari is the former). Know your shit.

      As part of my goal list, I'm working towards either a Testarossa single-mirror or 512BBi. Once I have it, I'm going to make a video like this, and intentionally state the wrong specs, just to tweak the "know yer crap" commenters. :) lol

    • @drewkezalb9029
      @drewkezalb9029 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Know your shit!😄 BB. What does the 2nd B mean?

  • @bluetoes591
    @bluetoes591 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Uh...BB stands for Berlinetta Boxer. In other words, it has a horizontally opposed engine configuration. Like a Porsche 911, or a VW Beetle, or a Subaru Legacy or a Panhard Dyna Z, or a Chevrolet Corvair or a whole pile of motorcycles and small airplanes. What makes it a boxer is the firing order.
    The repetition of the term V12 by somebody who is simultaneously claiming to be an expert in this video almost made me leave before halfway, however the sweet sound of FLAT 12 made me stay. V12s sound totally and completely different.
