Sameee, I was a Beidou main before Zhongli's banner and I was desperate for an actual shielder. I went full hp Zhongli from the get go. No hesitation, no regrets. I C2 him at his rerun and I might C3 him this rerun.
I joined genshin because I kept seeing him on tiktok HAHAHAH, his character banner was long over when I joined (I rmb saying “how long do u need to play this game to meet Zhong li wtf he’s the sole reason I started playing”

To get the best of both worlds, I'm running him with 2p Tenacity, 2p Noblesse. I also gave him an HP% sands, Geo DMG cup and a crit circlet as well as using a deathmatch on him. With geo resonance, even at 33k total HP, the shield is strong enough and you also deal a good amount of damage (80k+ bursts). So happy to finally become a Zhongli haver after failing the first 2 times.
I started playing Genshin because I thought Zhongli was cool and wanted to drop meteors on my enemies. I rolled on Gorou and Itto thinking Zhongli would not get a rerun for a bit longer, so I just pray that I have enough to get him and don't fail the 50/50...

Burst zhongli's damage is negligible. for abyss use, it isn't worth investing in at all. unless the floor buffs geo dmg, burst dmg, or both. you're better off giving your main dps more freedom to do what they do. That being said waifu/husband > meta so my cryo zhongli does 25k normals.

Awesome guide! And honestly, it's nice to know that even at c0 Zhongli's kit really is more or less complete. He was my first ever 5 star who came home on my first ever 10 pull along with Mona, so he has a special place in my heart. This banner has finally made my genshin dream come true, as my zhongli is now c6. His constellations aren't necessary, but I love him too much not to get him the best. pulling on zhonglis banner for yanfei cons, tbh i dont mind losing or winning the 50/50, since winning will make my yanfei less fragile and die less and geo resonance for my albedo, but loosing will let me have a guaranteed for venti/ayato so wishing on his banner is basically a win-win lol

I had enough primos to get Ganyu, she came pretty early, so i rolled on Zhongli banner, 2x 10 pull, i wanted 2 copies of Xingqiu, he was at C4, made 2x 10 pull, pulled 2 Xingqius and a Zhong outta nowhere, so now im unprepared, no weapon, artifacts, mora or talent books for him :D This will help me to build him. I need him as a strong shielder mainly, have both Ganyu and Hu Tao who could really appretiate a strong shield :)

The difference in shield health between full HP shield bot and ~30k HP Zhongli with %Geo/HP/CD or CR is around 4-6k, while sacrificing 30-40k+ additional burst damage. Burst DPS is the more optimal build, but shield bot is F2P and low investment friendly.
I used the sub dps build ever since his first release and he is my first 5 star but now that my dps's are built really well I'm transitioning into the sheild bot zhongli build since his burst is now a dps loss
One of my absolute favorite characters in the game, I built him similar to you, with a focus on offensive power with a Staff of Homa. My version however uses 2 piece Noblesse and 2 piece Metilith
Had Zhongli C1 since before his buff (almost totally unneeded, btw, he was way strong even before it), now I’m at C2 and was lucky enough to pull a Homa for him. He’s just so fun to play, and has a great personality (not to mention Keith Silverstein’s glorious voice talents).
i wanted ganyu but somehow managed to accidentally pull on the zhongli banner and get him instead i’ve got nothing prepared for zhongli so this guide was really helpful! i prepared a lot for ganyu tho pls come home soon
Zhongli is still good unit. When you get to inazuma, best start building healer along side with zhongli. Those wolf will rip you apart, no joke here. So new player, don't rush to inazuma. Best build your supports up.
P.S., I'm going get his c1. That will be it for his build for me. Probably wait for Mr. Hydro man, and dendro characters, dendro archon. A fully build archon team, can wait.
Do you have one like this for Ganyu? This is the best guide I have seen for Zhongli. I think is the best out there. Trust me if you saw my viewing history you would considered me an authority on it. I play the game for hours while watching guides in the background. Hey, don't judge is my stress relief after a shitty day.
Honestly the main reason why I just want to build him as a shield bot is cause I feel like ill forget to do his burst + its easier to just do full hp for now.
on his first rerun i was fresh outta wishes, i had just spammed all my wishes on i think the childe banner before it so my hopes were VERY low, lady luck was on my side and 30 into pity i got zhongli! to this day that was the best luck ive had because of how gamebreakingly great he has been to my account

It’s overall a really good trade off, if you’re running him with other DPS characters they easily outdamage his ult (Raiden for example can get around 200-300k after her ult ends at c0)
depends on build i guess? for someone who want their meteor have high dmg usually running crit weapon stat and Geo dmg goblet and crit change/ dmg circlet. and using pettra, nobless and Milith, mix of this three. from my personal experience i running full 4 set HP nobless zhongli so when i drop the meteor i wanna zhongli bring something to the table, a buff atk. its not much but for me its fits me so well.
His C1 and C2 provides me some huge return on investment. Abyss runs are easier and the double pillars means you always have a geo resonant object on the field. I definitely do not regret it

I’ve had zhongli built as a shield bot (4p millilith, black tassel) and he still does decent meteor damage when I use it. He’s so easy to build for low investment. Just get as much hp as possible and he’ll already be useful. He keeps my 4 geo team alive and healthy with no healers.
Tbh as a player that didn't have zhongli until today (i pulled him today, instant maxed him and cleared abyss with him today), his comfort shield has been a much needed thing for me, no more shall i need to put any effort in dodging. This abyss clear has been the least restarts and super effortless 36* (and this is coming from a f2p day 1 asia player, so best believe we're min/maxing primos).
my zhongli is just weekly boss co-op slave, with 42k hp, 2200ATK, 150ER and C2 to spam shield for the co-op team so they dont die.(which they still do) got him from his first banner and he has been ocupying all my team 1st spot, ever since.
I'm so happy that I was able to obtain a HP%/GeoDmg%/HP% 4-piece Tenacity set for my Zhongli that DOESN'T sacrifice Crit! Got mine to 70.9% Crit Rate/140.1% Crit Dmg and 38943 HP (sadly with only 122% ER 'tho) with a Deathmatch as his weapon, all that's missin' now is to get him his C2 and my Zhongli will become the perfect Hybrid-build Geo God!
Just a small note about sub dps zhongli, an energy recharge sands with heavy crit value/atk is also an option, specially with a quickswap team or if he's the only geo member in the party.
I remember i destroyed my Lithic Spear because i raised it for Hu Tao and i just unlocked the Inazuma craftable spear, now my team comp is Zhongli, Hu Tao, Albedo and Xingqiu and the only good spear i have for him is Black Tassel
Exactly what I have been looking for, someone that pointed also a middle of the road build that has a bulky shield but also some damage. I'll use l80 Favonius with HP/HP/CRIT-R(will choose for now CRIT over GDB as he ascends with GDB) Tenacity and 1-8-8 talents for a start and maybe improve from there. Now to dream with lazy playstyle with Daddy Z.
Mine is 4x millelith with deathmatch so I was able to use Hp/Hp/Hp artifacts and still maintain 55/100 crit. If I continue to farm, this could get even better. He's almost 50k HP and manage 50k+ on burst. I don't really care about damage, my focus is shield, but this way he's balanced.
I got C1 Zhongli (f2p luck) at AR50 - AR52 i think and since then, i built him over leftover artifacts. I am now AR57 and i HAVENT CHANGED HIS ARTIFACTS. As i progressed, i only changed his weapons. First weapon was a crescent pike (f2p problems lmao), blackcliff (if im not using Hu tao) and now i switch between Engulfing/The Catch Pretty decent burst damage 100k with my shit build, shield is virtually invincible, his pillars work well with my Traveler (lvl 90 geo traveler go brrrrrrrrrrrrt) I'm happy that i pulled for zhongli, though i regret not pulling eula after zhongli's rerun banner (f2p problems)
You never mention Physical Zhongli with Crescent Pike (though I still use Homa), also there is a new Cryo Zhongli build with Shenhe, Yun Jin and Chongyin that is pretty fun lol

I use the Favonius so that I don't need a battery when using xiao and make my rotations smoother when using mono geo comps.
which other f2p weapon would you recommend if I dont have the Favonius, and the Catch is on my Raiden?

Got mine to 70.9% Crit Rate/140.1% Crit Dmg and 38943 HP (sadly with only 122% ER 'tho) with a Deathmatch as his weapon, all that's missin' now is to get him his C2 and my Zhongli will become the perfect Hybrid-build Geo God!

Just a small note about sub dps zhongli, an energy recharge sands with heavy crit value/atk is also an option, specially with a quickswap team or if he's the only geo member in the party.
I'm gonna be picking up my own Zhongli this Tuesday after he went to get milk during his last rerun 😭😭😭

I remember i destroyed my Lithic Spear because i raised it for Hu Tao and i just unlocked the Inazuma craftable spear, now my team comp is Zhongli, Hu Tao, Albedo and Xingqiu and the only good spear i have for him is Black Tassel

Exactly what I have been looking for, someone that pointed also a middle of the road build that has a bulky shield but also some damage. I'll use l80 Favonius with HP/HP/CRIT-R(will choose for now CRIT over GDB as he ascends with GDB) Tenacity and 1-8-8 talents for a start and maybe improve from there.
Now to dream with lazy playstyle with Daddy Z.

4p emblem is so underated on zhong dong
Mine is 4x millelith with deathmatch so I was able to use Hp/Hp/Hp artifacts and still maintain 55/100 crit. If I continue to farm, this could get even better. He's almost 50k HP and manage 50k+ on burst. I don't really care about damage, my focus is shield, but this way he's balanced.
I got C1 Zhongli (f2p luck) at AR50 - AR52 i think and since then, i built him over leftover artifacts.
I am now AR57 and i HAVENT CHANGED HIS ARTIFACTS.
As i progressed, i only changed his weapons. First weapon was a crescent pike (f2p problems lmao), blackcliff (if im not using Hu tao) and now i switch between Engulfing/The Catch
Pretty decent burst damage 100k with my shit build, shield is virtually invincible, his pillars work well with my Traveler (lvl 90 geo traveler go brrrrrrrrrrrrt)
I'm happy that i pulled for zhongli, though i regret not pulling eula after zhongli's rerun banner (f2p problems)
You never mention Physical Zhongli with Crescent Pike (though I still use Homa), also there is a new Cryo Zhongli build with Shenhe, Yun Jin and Chongyin that is pretty fun lol

Highly recommend shield bot zhongli. At 56k HP I have yet to see his shield break before its cooldown ends.
