Listen to the last part of the overture of the Tannhäuser especially the last half is so conflicting cause I personally go through a tornado of feelings... From coziness to longing to feeling safe.... Then feeling restless.... And in the end encouraged to rise above everything and March out into the world and strike down a mighty foe
As an Australian with elementary schoolboy German, listening to this magnificent music with the language written out as the music progresses adds another dimension altogether for me. to be able to enjoy these performances in concert halls around the world from my own modest provincial city is one of the wonders of the modern world.
I am sorry to say that despite learning classical piano as a child, this is the first time that I have consciously come across Wagner. I am a grandmother now, and intend to go on a steep learning curve before I shuffle off. Makes me feel oddly patriotic to Germany and I am bloody English! If I was German I would be blubbing into my hanky.
I've been listening to, playing piano and loving most classics since my childhood as well; and within the recent two months have just discovered this masterpiece! I too feel a void. Well above 60 y/o now, and when I depart this human body, I pray this is the last thing I hear on my way out!!!
Isn't music wonderful! I have been in music all of my life as both a concert artist and teacher and the more you think you know, the more you realise that you don't know. A friend of mine played this wonderful composition on pipe organ roughly 50 years ago and I still remember the emotional effect it had on me back then. Every time I hear this wonderful piece I feel so thrilled with it every time that it almost brings me to tears of joy.
Been in this emotional club for >50 years..... nearly 80 now and it STILL hits me...... I can't play this loud enough.... makes me sad that younger generations may never hear this BEAUTIFUL music
I love, love, love the pilgrim's chorus. And not because my name happens to be Wagner. It builds, and builds, then the orchestra kicks in, then the women kick in and it builds to a crescendo that gives me chills. Gorgeous piece of music.
Absolutamente hermoso. Renazco, Richard. Gracias.
I believe its all about the innovative styles and techniques. To me Wagner was amazingly talented. Yes people throughout countless cultures exploited music for negative reasons but realists see music for what it is good music or crap. But Wagner's music is more than just good its legendary.
Wagner is great! He knew it and said it. He said he was the greatest. In my opinion, taking into account the physics and mathematics of music, he comes second to Bach. However, it is inquestionable that Wagner's music is inspiring, stirring, evoking and soothing, all at the same time!
Every time I hear this music it reminds me of where my Grandma came from, The Great Rhondda Valley and the Great Welsh Choirs 😅 I always cry when I hear this music 😢 Grandma I miss you terribly and I wish you was here😢
In his autobiography Wagner explains that he wrote this piece initially as a welcome event for the king of Saxony returning from summer vacations, when he was royal conductor in Dresden. He made use of this contacts in Dresden and managed to have about 300 to 400 singers (Wagner himself being one of them) and many other local musicians. He mentions that many singers and elements of the orchestra were so bad that to disguise them he had the idea of having the choir march so that the king would not hear the weakest ones except from a distance. The overture, which has the same leitmotiv as this pilgrim's chorus, was written last. And the voices in this part were also added later, after the release of the opera was received coldly by the public.
the first thing I would do with a time mashine is traveling back in the year 1720 and go to Mr Johann Sebastian Bach and show him Wagner's Ring and Tannhäuser complete
Bela performance.
Halleluja, Halleluja, In Ewigkeit, in Ewigkeit.
This familiar masterpiece is comfortable to the ears and the mind There is something extraordinary in this chorus From Tokyo of the Land of the Rising Sun 🇯🇵
What was infinitely more valuable to Wagner, and what excited his gratitude to even more superlative utterance, was the confidence which Liszt showed in his genius, and without which, it is no exaggeration to say, Wagner’s greatest works would probably have remained unwritten.

Hi Marcialuc. Wonderful Piece and great presentation. I love it very much, and I thank you for it. There are two very minor Errors I would like to Point out. One, at 00:42, the word you typed as "Wanderstad" should be "Wanderstab". Also at 2:02 you type the next line as "Der Gnade Heil ist dem Büßer beschieden" when the lyric repeats the line "den Herren, dem mein Lied ertönt". Two very minor Errors that do not detract from the Beauty of the Piece or your wonderful presentation. I only state it here for completeness. Thank you very much again and God Bless You!
How is it possible that we can produce such beautiful music in a world that is in terrible condition for many people around this planet, are we losing interest in the fate of the only house we have? Who could we blame, the many or the few?
Listening to this magnificent piece of music........can't keep it dry......It was played at my father's funeral........this music is so touching, so beautifull......drama all over....
What's better than listening to Wagner's Pilgrim's Chorus?
Listening to it twice.
And singing it.
@@krischan67 Genau!!
I have listened to it at least 100 times. I will never get tired of it. I would love to be in the chorus singing it at least once in my life.
💯
EVERY TIME I LISTEN TO THIS PIECE OF MUSIC OF WAGNER, AS IF I HAVE BEEN TO HEAVEN. IT BRINGS TEARS TO MY EYES AND GIVES ME GOOSE BUMPS.
I concur, it's stunning
Listen to the last part of the overture of the Tannhäuser especially the last half is so conflicting cause I personally go through a tornado of feelings... I just felt that.
So do I.
As an Australian with elementary schoolboy German, listening to this magnificent music with the language written out as the music progresses adds another dimension altogether for me. to be able to enjoy these performances in concert halls around the world from my own modest provincial city is one of the wonders of the modern world.
The first classical record I bought as a teenager, and the one I want to hear as I finally close my eyes on this earth.
its something I would like to take on my final journey ,when you recall the crap you have heard during your time on earth/
Dear John; I am totally with you "on that"
Wolf in Canada
That was my first record as well 1962 and it is a timeless music
to the "Halle--lujah" ! "HALLE-LUJAH" !!!!
Music to die to - or for. But seriously, this has always been one of my favorite selections from Wagner.
"Joy is not in things; it is in us“

Words cannot express how beautiful this is
Wagner, simplesmente um gênio !
No need to speak or understand the German language to appreciate (and feel) this master piece.
Danke Meister Wagner!!!
Damn straight!
Wagner ist einzigartig u. unverwechselbar .Immer wieder gerne. Peter Mannheim😊😊😊
Absolutely outstanding!.....I had the volume up full and at the end there were tears in my eyes. Beyond perfection.
Been in this emotional club for >50 years..... nearly 80 now and it STILL hits me...... I can't play this loud enough.... makes me sad that younger generations may never hear this BEAUTIFUL music
I Couldn't agree more. Absolutely astounding music. One of, if not THE first classical music pieces I ever heard and I truly hope it will be the last.
I love, love, love the pilgrim's chorus. And not because my name happens to be Wagner. It builds, and builds, then the orchestra kicks in, then the women kick in and it builds to a crescendo that gives me chills. Gorgeous piece of music.
Me too! The emotional kick, the Tingle Factor ...AND, "The Wick" (volume) needs turning up to "educate" the peasants!!
It's actually a boys chorus that kicks in at the end.
I just tried meditating to this music, and… wow! I should use Wagner as a meditation tool more often. Most of his music has a deeply spiritual nature.
I also felt that: spirituality
absolutely beautiful performance. pure Wagner POWER
Simplesmente majestoso e contagiante.

I saw the opera at the Metropolitan Opera in New York and this scene was really well staged. I just can't for get it.
Every time, I find myself in tears
+Gerry Aryanson yes brother
Comovente
Magnífico, aflora a sensibilidade!
I am a total heathen, yet I find this sublime, soul-stirring.............
So ...you didn't vote for Trump then eh?
Soul-stirring indeed.
Heathens get the full length of the sword

Definitely Not Dagoth Ur and subsequently eat france.
even though i do not understand what they say still it is extremely beautiful
...better look it up in your language, because this "german" subtitleing is full of bugs.
@@abuazrinal-salam2452: No kidding - it goes right off the rails at 6:20.
You can buy the translation in the music store and that was the first record I bought

it is the most beautiful piece of music in the Universe, there is no comparison term, it is sublime...

Indeed
Simplemente, GRACIAS, MUCHAS GRACIAS. Y gracias además, por la traducción. ¡Bien hecho!
When the women kick in, words fail. Like reading the Christmas story of Luke in the original Greek.
This dynamic is very good, not to noisy.Tempo one of best ever.
Greets, my friend! May you have peace and happiness all the days of your path. Thank you for your time and care.
I highly recommend you Roger Monroe on TH-cam!
Thank you for adding these lyrics...such powerful words match the magnificent score.
Wonderful wonderful wonderful music of a genius!

more than wonderful
With this piece Wagner beautifully and majestically painted man's faith in God into music.
If eternity has a sound- this is it.
Nicely put.
¡¡¡ Impresionante, genial, maravilloso !!!

"Seligen Frieden" is the key here after redemption
