How I make my own Chex Mix snacks

  • I love Chex Mix. My mom made it when I was a child. Now I make it myself. I make mine a little different, using small snack crackers I think I might enjoy along with the Chex cereals and nuts.
    See the full recipe on my web site at:
    www.white-trash...
    And some people tell me my voice has a natural ASMR quality.

    This looks fantastic! Will be making this soon. Love the tip about using the shaker to disperse the dry seasonings! When I learned how to make it, the dry seasonings were added to the wet. But your method makes more sense. The sweet/salty nut combination is perfect. I think a gallon Ziploc bag filled with this mix, a new dvd and a 2L of soda in a nice basket/pail would make a cute Christmas gift -- for a neighbor, teacher or anyone needing a symbol of your appreciation. Thanks for sharing.

    Flashback for me! My mom used to make that for bridge parties. She also made a sweet version that had walnuts, M&Ms, and cinnamon sugar, and she melted butter with maple syrup. SO good!

      That does sound delicious. I've thought about M&Ms, but butter and maple syrup never occurred to me. I'll have to make a note of that idea for next year. Thanks for the inspiration. -Dennis

    Gosh I love Chex Mix. I often make it for the holidays but didn't get to it this year. Now your video has me hankering for chex mix, so may just make this tomorrow for New Years Eve!

    I add my dry seasoning to my wet mix, seems it more evenly distributes that way. Thanks for the video!

    This is so weirdly American! Going to have to try it! Even if, here in the UK, I have to get half the ingredients online!

      Thanks Robin. It is weirdly American. I looked up the history and it was invented during the early years of television, with the idea of American's having a homemade snack they could enjoy while watching TV. That amuses me. -Dennis

    if you like sweet and salty, you can try asian chex mix. it's the same cooking method but it uses sugar, soy sauce, and furikake. you can order that online if you don't live by any asian grocery stores.

    Nov 22, 2010. Thanks Dennis, I found a video on your wonderful channel showing egg custard pie. You call it custard pie and don't mention "egg", but I believe it's egg custard.
    Thanks again.
    I wish you lived by me. I'd get fat real fast. Yummy in the tummy.

      Where I grew up it was called custard pie. Egg custards were a stand alone desert. Whatever the name, it's a delicious treat and your mentioning it makes me want to make that pie again. I love custard, or egg custard. Thanks. -Dennis

    I made this today, still warm but I’m eating it anyway! Delicious…..I did add 1 cup of oyster crackers because I had them. Why can they make the chex cereal with the three kinds of cereal already mixed together? Or maybe they do! Lol

      I made two batches this season. I love Chex Mix. Thanks for the tip on the oyster crackers. That seems like an excellent idea. I'll add a note to my recipe. -Dennis

    Hey Dennis Chef Kevin here again to ask for a possible recipe request that I made at work which I feel like you would enjoy making, it is Gruyere cheese Gougeres. They are comfort food for this time of year. Let me know what your take is on it!

    • @MobileHomeGourmet
      @MobileHomeGourmet  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Kevin. I did some research on these and they look easy to make - cheese puffs made with choux pastry. I've made cream puffs before; so these shouldn't be too difficult. I'll add them to my to-do list, but I don't know when I'll get to them. Thanks for the suggestion. -Dennis

    Great video. I hope the fires go out, so so sad.
    Could you please do an egg custard pie or minced meat pie video? I'll search your channel to see if you've already done one of these two pies. Thank you again for all your wonderful and correct videos.

    Could I double the butter/worstershire, and seasoning, but not the dry ingredients? I love BOLD flavors!

    • @MobileHomeGourmet
      @MobileHomeGourmet  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, but bake it a little longer because butter can be as much as 20% water. You'll need to bake off the water, but it should be okay, if a little buttery. -Dennis

    • @MobileHomeGourmet
      @MobileHomeGourmet  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes Nick, pumpkin seeds would probably be quite good. I've seen some Chex Mix that contain popcorn. There is a lot of room for variety here. Thanks for the question. -Dennis

    Thanks for your recipe. I wish General Mills' packaged 'Traditional' Chex Mix was truer to the original recipe (or a later variation, like yours) instead of adding rye chips, mini bread sticks and removing the key Worcestershire sauce (all horrible modifications). It seems like it's catering to a regional taste, instead of the original recipe. At least I can make it myself, but it would be more convenient if they used 'Traditional' more appropriately to their packaged product.
