- Lambing time is stressful.
All the questions bombarding us minute by minute, second by second...
Is she in labour? Is she ok? Why is she doing that? Why is she so loud? and of course...
SHOULD I HELP HER??
Today was one of those days for me.
So I shared with you what I look for when a ewe is in labour, and my decision making process on when I should step in to help.

My favourite Sandi phrases:
I hear babies! ❤️He’s already up! ❤️He’s already drinking! ❤️Good mama!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
My other favorite Sandi saying is "No Stealing" although we haven't heard that saying yet this go around.
She needs a t-shirt that's says "I hear babies " 😁
Because of you I was able to safely deliver the first and biggest ever baby boy lamb my ewe lamb and I had last week! Your videos helped me, a small hobby farmer, catch the signs she was in trouble and the fact that he was too big and her birth canal was too small! Not only was he huge but his shoulders we're stuck. One gigantic pull (just like you showed us time and time again) and he was out just in time. A few vigorous rubs later he was bleeting and mom was coming out of the shock of her first birth! They bonded well and he is growing fast and she recovered wonderfully! Thank you Sandi!!!!
YAY!! :)
Wow! That's amazing!! 🎉🎊Congratulations🎊🎉🐏🐑🐏🐑🐏🐑
Awesome job!
Name the baby Sandy.🐑 It's a boy or girl name.
Congratulations! How are the sheep working out on your small hobby farm? My husband thinks they might be too big of an animal for 2 acres. How many do you have?
My 90 year old mother watched you yesterday and she smiled for the first time in months. Thank you
God Bless her heart..so happy she enjoyed seeing Sandi's Ewes and Lambs ❤ hope you have many many more days of smiles ❤ hugs to you and your mom from Michigan
@@anitasnider8494 thank you
Oh what a joy to have caught a joyful moment for your mom. God Bless you both. Happy tears for you.
Give your mother a BIG hug from me...it's the perfect channel to raise the spirits and have a smile....Lots of love from Scotland...
Ohh💜
I love that you say "Today's going just like a gong show." Your younger viewers don't have a clue what that means. For me it's nostalgic. :)
In case you've felt unappreciated lately, we see your hard work and the love you have for positive sheep husbandry. Your intentions are always for the best interest of those precious creatures in your care. You can't fake your authenticity. Additionally, the time you take in editing the videos shows in the high quality pieces you produce. You are beyond awesome. Thank you! I know it's stressful for you but we love lambing season!! 💕❤️🥰😍
I loved your comment. It's exactly what I have been thinking, but could not have said it so eloquently. Thank you.
Sandi, the amount of physical and emotional labour that you deal with every day
most of us can’t imagine, yet you do it with a beautiful smile on your face. The 20-30
minutes you deliver tickles this 80 year old heart and makes my day. Thank you so much.
Be safe, stay healthy ..
I love how real you are for the camera. This is my favourite channel on TH-cam.
Felicia B ...I love her channel because it keeps me feeling REAL...I go from Weekend Warrior on TH-cam to looking at Sheepishly Me...A huge contrast but I seem to need both for balance...
I personally don’t like “live” TH-cam ... I enjoy what you do even if it’s a day or two late... so I would say keep doing what you’re doing no need to add anything.. hugs
I love it when u get them to foster, just makes a nice wee family. If ur happy to go live on Instagram, stay there, not without a mod. Dont keep rams for us, sell'em, we don't have to feed and look after them.
If the time comes that you have to let any of the"Billies" go then as a farmer that is what you have to do for your bottom line! We don't have to like it but you ARE A BUSINESS, before anything else! None of us that LOVE you will question what is best for your business! If anybody does then they don't need to becoming to your channel! That you let us enjoy the life you live is great! However, you HAVE To consider what is going to make your profit. We love you regardless of the decisions you have to make! Have a Blessed Day All!
DAWN USelto ...you are right...She isn’t a charity event..She needs to make enough profit to feed herself and her family...it costs a lot to keep a sheep for sentimental reason only...
You are right Ami, but Sandi has NAMED them Billy Sr and Billy Jr, and their sire is Prince William. So Dawn is using their names, not their sex. :)
Other than for emotional reasons, they are only worth keeping if their rate of gain is exceptional. Otherwise you risk losing money on the lamb crop they sire, feeding longer to get lambs to market weight. But if viewers want to fund their care, they could get vasectomies and get used as teaser rams, or burdizzoed and used to keep the grass and weeds down around the buildings using electronetting.
@@vwvw4 In a way, Sandi's viewers *are* contributing toward the Billies upkeep through the commercials TH-cam runs with the videos. If those lambs keep viewers coming back and attracting new ones, they have a monetary value beyond the "regular" lambs from their same group. Should Sandi keep them if they will not make good stud rams? That's her decision. I do like the alternatives you mentioned, but she won't pasture her sheep due to predator pressure. (Coyotes. )
Fully agree on this! Potentially it would be more sustainable to just keep one of the them? That way you get the viewers who love those boys staying and don't have to keep three rams that are unusable. Still hoping they pass the soundness check either way, but if they do and still aren't the quality of rams Sandi might otherwise bring in, I hope she does whatever is right for the business side of the farm.
Please do not do TH-cam live without a moderator who is avaliable. The live chat will be extremely toxic if left without a moderator and you don't deserve to deal with that with all the good work you do.
I agree! The majority of commenters are great, but just 1-2 trolls can ruin it for everyone.
Sandi, if you see this, I would be interested in possibly moderating. I'm in the US, but I watch a cat rescue livestream (Tiny Kittens) based in Canada who has moderators located in various countries.
@@melissajarvis4829 not just everyone but also the channel.
Research Flat Earth!!
;)
Dont need to do anything live except just a webcam. No youtube, no FB live, nothing like that. Just a webcam like most airports and other public areas have, so you can just tune in and watch.
I can’t wait to hear what Rex says about the Billy kids.
That one lamb was just huge. I’m thinking at least 17 pounds. Today seemed to go really well. Stay safe!
Don’t break protocol, we (TH-cam) while supportive and occasionally helpful, do not get a voice in your business decisions.
During the pandemic it's probably safer not to import problems. Don't change a successful business model to please viewers. Love your videos. Stay safe.
Carissa (I probably spelled her name wrong, sorry !) seems like a god send for you !
I’m glad you have someone to share a little of the work load with you ! 🧡
You literally took the words right out of my mouth. Good help is hard to come by and when you find it, it's a blessing.
That ewe had the whole run of colors, didnt she? White, Light, Medium, and dark!
So cute how the lambs wag their tails when they latch on. I bottle feed newborn kittens and they wag their ears when they're latched on.
at 6:24 the baby that is resting its head on it's momma looks like he/she is smiling!! So cute!!
The Unsteadiness on their feet and their New Sounds of Joy after the Babies are Born is Absolutely Precious. 👍
I find it so calming after a hectic, hard, busy day at work and coming home to do my farm chores, to after, sit and watch your lambs and sheep. I don't think anybody would want to see me feed and water my chickens and horses, and put eggs into my incubator, get my tractor running after winter....boring. They may laugh at me slogging through the mud to feed my animals, (we live in the west coast rain forest) and the mud can be ankle deep in the winter. I love your videos about your farm! My little farmette is almost 7 acres. I'm glad I stumbled onto this site of yours! Love your sheep!
The satisfied and happy look on your face with each lamb just makes my day.
I watch your videos everyday and love seeing you do what you love. I’m a dairy farmer from Oregon and know all about bringing life into this world and I love it. You can definitely see that you love your sheep and in no way shape or form can someone say you don’t! Your an amazing women. ❤️🍼🐑
Wow! What a day. I've only given birth once but I have so much empathy for these ladies. When you say you are going to give them some pain meds i say YES!
Thank you so much for inviting us into your barn Sandi! I know that isn't an easy thing to do. Also I was wondering for any of the sheep farmers out there (and I might ask it again if Sandi does a Q&A sometime) what happens if a handling system fails? I had a round pen fail (it... wasn't made all that well and I should've known better) and I had a chase down a mare and foal before they got to the highway! Has anyone had a handling system fail and is it like...sheep everywhere lol?
The ewe that was smelling you when you helped her lamb out the triplets seemed to be thanking you (ewe)! Love these videos!❤️
Sandi, I swear your ewes feel like" oh, the midwife is here, we can do this!" 🐑🐑🐑💖💖💖
I just love it when a new mother immediately begins to clean off her baby
My daughter said why do the babies scream mom when they come out 🤣🤣🤣😍.. She's 5 and she loooooves watching you pull babies out she is in all I love it..
Sandi, I NEED your posts to get through this quarantine. Did you see you are up to 150,000+? So glad you're keeping the black lamb in particular. I don't need TH-cam live. Thank You!!! HUGS from Austin Texas.
You can clearly see how much you LOVE what you do! You’re really sweet to your animals! ❤️
I wouldn't know where to begin walking into a morning like that!! You do such a great job with the lambs and ewes, it's really so much fun to watch and learn from you everyday.
That one baby was so talkative, it was adorable!
I don't know if you will see this... but you helping them is a real piece of mercy... especially the ewe lambs... they do seem a little confused about the pain and other birth issues. .. it's a hard job!♡
You should do a live feed of the baby pen. It would be cool to watch them all day
Also you should try peppermint tea in the mornings
Lillian Mount i agree! Put a web cam in the bottle baby area!
That would be so fun!
They would be awesome! But, she'd either have to turn the comments off or get a lot of volunteer moderators. Or just run it for a short time each day? I've watched other live feeds and when they don't have moderators, it can get ugly with trolls coming in.
@@melissajarvis4829 yeah I thought of that too. I wish people weren't like that she is so nice and she does a great job
I feel like TH-cam Live is a waste of my time. People ask the same questions or people coming in late ask questions that have already been covered in the video. So even if I come in Live I will close out and wait a few hours, so I can just watch the video. By the way, I've just recently started listening to your podcasts and I enjoy them very much. Thank you.
Yay we love Billy & his kids. Thank you for keeping them. We realise they are not pets but "workers" but we still love them.
Your Ewes are not fat, as someone said. They are healthy, and excellent Mommas. Sandi, you are doing a fantastic job. You've had quads, quints, triplets, twins, and the odd single one. Look forward to your videos each day. I'm sore, tired, but your videos make my day. Thank you!
Thanks for having us along. I would love a TH-cam Live, but yes, find a moderator...maybie a family member in another house so the distancing can happen but still help... We love the Billies...but for me mainly so you could eventually breed your own line! The Brock line has a good ring to it...
Please if you have 2 seconds... do the sit and wait for your puppy to learn not to jump the door. This will help build on more complex commands later. Recall and Sit are the two top ones...in my books. HUGS from Halifax and at the end of the day, you do what works for you.
Sandi , you should do what you feel confident in . You will always have people who disagree and trolls who want too upset people .
My point of view: As much as I think the boys are cute, do what’s best for your business. Although TH-cam is kind of business as well, but you probably get my point.
We are such a bad influence
@@joannakwiatkowska4362 Lol! We probably are... But those Billies do make me smile! I sure hope they pass the vet's vetting of them.
You sound so much more positive now than when you started the season.
The Birth of those Quads (4) really Warms our Hearts. ♥️ It definitely puts Everything we’re going through right now into perspective. 👍 Things will get better and a New Life for the Lucky Babies.
I love how you have such compassion for your ewes and lambs. So sensitive to their pain and discomfort and your love of the Billy's and Ruby!❤️🐑❤️
My opinion is get a moderator before you go live because some of the comments I see on youtube are aargh. I haven't seen any of the negative comments you have, but on other live streams. People hop on just to stir up shit.
Sandi , I admire your work ethic so much, you must be the most hardworking human ever how do you even get these videos out everyday !? Remember to take a breather once in a while ❤️
Been loooking forward to this video allday looks like another busy day for you sandi you do one amazing job with these ewes and lambs lots more baby yes stil no mini billys they are all cute please keep the videos coming looking forward to the next video god bless take care stay safe. So glad you kept the billy boys they are part of the family now they are so cute.
I look forward to your blogs every day. They are bringing me joy and hope where little else is right now. Thank you for sharing your day Sandi.
Ewes are being vocal when they lamb..... yup- I can relate- lol- was vocal when I had mine too. I think all ladies can relate, lol ❤️❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍🐑
I was quiet. My midwife said I could swear if I wanted to, but I just focussed on my breathing.
F.B. Leach Lordy, I wish I was quieter! I think my Dr. Did too, lol. I was breathing so hard that to this day I use those breathing techniques if I’m in serious pain or need a dentist needle.
Meghan Plamondon I just had my fourth baby 11 days ago, no epidural. I was quite vocal myself 🤣
Oh my I’m so happy I looked at the time. Thank you Sandi for making my my day better!
You certainly had a very busy Wednesday. So many babies. You have some very good ewes that have so many doubles triples and quads.
Congratulations and great job.!
I've been worried about us encouraging naming the lambs. Let's not detract from the need to eventually send these guys to market, as adorable as they are.
I agree, I worry about all of the people that get attached to lambs, want them names, ask over and over for her to keep them. People have to understand this is a business and she has to do what is right and keeping rams that aren’t good for breeding is just wasted profit. I have a handful of angus. I adore the calves and the mommas but I don’t name the calves because ultimately they go in my freezer. Holding on to them would defeat their purpose and take up pastureland for no benefit.
Yup I thought the same, it’s nice for us to say ohh keep there beautiful name them but yes it is a business and she has to remain focused to that..
The Billies are darn cute. But, I get it that you're not raising pets. ROCK on Sandi. You will make the best decisions.
Love your videos Sandi, you asked if you should do TH-cam live, but you should do what makes you feel comfortable and works for your set up! ❤ If Instagram live work best for you, then don't feel pressured to do TH-cam also! You have so much on your plate just now and it's so inspiring to see! Lots of love from Scotland! Stay safe and enjoy the highs and lows of lambing ❤
At this season of our lives, I am so grateful for you and the joy you give. Thank you so very much ♥️
Just continue as you are, no live youtube.
" she looks like she swallowed a barrel" I laughed way to much over that!
Thank you for keeping the Billy's boy alot of babies today love so much makes my day so happy thank you so much Sandi
Every day we learn from you Sandi
Listening to the one little newborn calling out so loudly made it quite clear why they are indoors. Any coyotes within 20 miles would hear that and be on serious mission for dinner. It is so nice to see how safe they are in your setup. It really makes you wonder about the predator losses in Australia and New Zealand 's large grazing flocks. Even with the best guardian dogs, the losses must still be hard to take. Did anyone you talked to on your trip mention that issue? I know its not a pleasant topic.
I like your videos just the way it is, keep doing what your doing - I don't like toxic people who think they know it all. Your videos are great the way it is. Thank you!!!
I love her but the one with the quads head babies with all different kinds of coloring so beautiful all of them
HI Sandi! You are doing really well with your sheep! I get a newspaper called Lancaster farming and they were reporting the same what you have experienced with your sheep here in PA.
Hi!! I love your videos so much!! You do so much work for these lambs I can’t imagine the dedication.
What a wonderful video today, Sandi!!! I'm excited for each new day of videos. I wish I had your energy! :) Glad you kept the "Billy Gang," but I understand that you are trying to weigh the future value of doing that.....but they are SO darned cute! LOL Of course, I'm starting to feel like that about each and every lamb that has unusual coloring...HAHAHA
“Nipple confusion” is my new favorite phrase 😂😂😂❤️❤️❤️❤️
I don't have sheep, I don't want sheep ----- I look forward to seeing your videos after work each day! Thank you for all the enjoyment you give!
Keep hanging on to the little miracles! It helps with the rough times! You are amazing! Yes, please go live on TH-cam, I love watching the lambs births etc.
I would love to see a live feed, but you should always do what you feel comfortable with. I love you and your channel no matter what.
My heart is so full right now that im crying happy tears 😃 look at all this beautiful happy babies and mommas you have ❤ you so needed this with the loss you had and im so happy for you ❤ you have to do what is right for you Sandi your a business woman and then a sheep mom too.. We all understand that.. Hope you got some rest after all that hard work you did ❤ almost done girl you got this ❤ much love n prayers from the USA
well done farmer... (that is a big compliment in texas and at TAMU)
Good afternoon Sandi! Thank you again for sharing with us. As always; blessings from Texas!
Sandi, you are one of the hardest working, most compassionate and inspirational women I know (of). Thank you for your empowering, educational videos.
Well, that was just so amazing to watch, every day always has something new for me to learn, and wow so busy on the sheep maternity ward today, lots and lots of beautiful 🐑 lambs, ah I’m so pleased your keeping your Billy’s, x
The Billys are cute but remember she is running a business, and farming is always a thin-profit affair.
Looks like you are at peak lambing. They just keep coming and coming. Good thing Carissa is on hand to help out with all the chores and assist with the lambs.
Love how you tell the ewes they’re good moms and the babies welcome. It’s not like they know, but I do the same when I daily tell my chickens good morning and good night daily I unlock and lock their coop.
How is the ewe that went down and had the quads? At this point I’m assuming she didn’t make it or is still doing poorly.
It truly AMAZES me every time you deliver these babies!!!!!! All l can say is WOW YOU ARE FANTASTIC!!!!!!!💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
I have a strange day and this video made me feel alot better. Its so comforting to know some stuff stay the same.
Hello.
Really, I thank you very much for making the decision about everything.
Know these things, but not as you are always with them.
Thank you and your family.
We are hobby farmers with 30 ewes? You show love and compassion just like my daughter and me. Love every one of your videos.
As far as TH-cam Live is concerned, you do whatever makes you most comfortable....
If no moderator, protect your heart and don’t stream live. I loved the “Oreo” trio! Now, time to get some cookies!
Sandi - Great video. Great to see the bounty of newborn lambs. Hope the rams you kept works out for you. Blessings to you, Mark, and your family. Stay safe, and stay strong, firmly in His grip.
Great job as always. You are awesome lady. You have a love for them. So nice to see. I miss calving time 😢😢
You saved the black lambs for us... LOL you love them sandi- the painted lambs always grab your heart
The billies thing makes me smile. It's good to try something new from time to time to see how you like it. I run into this from time to time when I keep bucks or grow out something just to see what it looks like as an adult. Even if it ends at freezer camp I got the mental satisfaction of seeing where it leads. Besides, you know you're going to love your billy lambs when it comes to lambing groups.
Sandi’s smile is soo nice
I would love to see you live on TH-cam but you do what’s best for you and your sheep
I would love to see you go live! I really love your channel and I'm in awe of all that you do! Don't listen to the haters. They are the crappy ONE PERCENT & the rest of us 99% ABSOLUTELY love your blog!
You do a great job with the pregnant ewes! Keep doing what your gut tells you when it comes to helping a ewe in labor. I personally think it’s better to help and have a living lamb and mom than risk it and the mom and possibly 3 lambs die.
No do not go live! You have enough to do without worrying about comments, Those of us who watch at 3 am or the next day feel cheated when you go live and we miss out on you giving your regular info. If they want live watch your other channel do not ruin this one.
What a day for your and your herd. All all I can say is "You go girl".
Sandi.
Thank You for showing us your work with the ewes birthing the of lambs. Sandi you sure are a great sheep farmer, you have a great working knolage to handle the tuff lambing problems step in to correct the problem.
Take Care Be Safe Alway's Around all Farm Equipment.
Keep the boys for fun!!!!! You deserve to have a happy day...... Stay healthy and safe. Hugs from Minnesota
I don't think you need to do live TH-cam, Sandi it's more hard work, you have enough on your plate already 🥰
Sandi you are such a good midwife ❤️ love how you praise the ewes and welcome the lambs ❤️❤️❤️
I understand fully what had to be done when it comes to Farm Animals. My you were very very busy with Lambing. They all are Cute and Adorable. But you also have to make a living. Sorry at least one wasn't a Ewe. Stay Safe and Peace Be With You All ☮️
I know in cattle, they will use steers for some purpose in the herd.. Is it possible to get the Billy Bob Boys snipped & used in a similar capacity? If not, you should do what's best for your flock. It's easy for us to love them from afar without footin' the feed bill 😂
The new quads are my favorite so far. Although the Dalmatian one from the beginning (the cheeky one) is always fun to watch. Looks like the Billies have different colored noses! Easier to tell apart that way. “Billy Black Nose...”
I dont see any reason to add another step in your TH-cam productions by going live. You already are doing a good job and have plenty to do now.
So glad you are keeping the Billies!! I know it can be hard but they are such loves! Thank you!
I love the triplets, covered in slime, staring right at the camera.. LOL. What an amazing life you live Miss Sandi.
