Here in southern California we are still working in the field, not sure for much longer that will be but pushing 7 days a week 12 hour days just in case we stop working.

I leave them everywhere.. Top plates, fascia board, etc.. One day, many years from now, someone will find them. Will TH-cam be a thing then? Not too sure!

We took a load bearing wall down and put a beam in about 3 weeks ago. I wrote "Coronavirus 2020- no bueno bro" obnoxiously big on the beam before it got sheetrocked.

I can't imagine how much tree's were cut down in order to build every home/building worldwide. Its unimaginable. Without tree's oygen levels will for sure drop in 50 to 100 years. Who am I kidding? Nothings going to be done about it lol

I may be wrong, but it looks like a Hitachi (Metalbo) polyurethane hose. They get more flexible with use.

Hey matt quick question about the hangers on the girder. Do you just pull the distance in off the birdsmouth of the girder that the girder is away from the corner the hip is bearing on? Or are you just laying the jacks out 24" O.C.

Maybe I cant see it in the video correctly but I was wondering how does the roof get air flow when you put blocks between the trusses where they sit on the walls and it looks like there is no gap in the peak for air to get out from a ridge vent. Also what is the reason for the sub fascia?

I love framing and the aesthetic appeal of the hip ridge but I dislike the waste or cut-off amount.
Our local authorities wont allow us to use the drop-off upside so the waste adds up

Why do you snap a line at 48 1/2"? Does the OSB line up with the sub fascia or main fascia? Thanks
Steeper the pitch, the more it’ll hang over the edge. If it was flat roof, you’d just pull 48”. Since it’s pitched, 48” would hang the sheet over enough to push drip edge out.
question, im from the uk so we do things very differently but i wanted to ask you abotu the blocks you put between the trusses at wall plate level, what the shirtless guy was doing from 10 mins, is there any gap left between the blocks and the plate? for airflow and if not is there any airflow into the roofspace allowed for anywhere else?

They don’t keep up. If you drop them that’s $300 bucks down the pipe nothing beats the pneumatic nail guns. Now impact drivers and saws Zalla and circ saws those are good.

what is included in the definition of framing a house ? If you hired a contractor what would be included for the square foot price ?
Rough Framing scope includes the following:
- Wall Framing.
- Roof System or Trusses.
- Roof Sheathing.
- Shim & Shave studs to ensure walls are laser straight for drywallers.
- Porches (depends on the builder | we frame all of our exposed porches, typically post and beam style)

Surely there is no reason for carpentry in the United States to save up to old age. As easy as security is prioritized. There is a great deal of attention to the quality of the construction so it does not matter if a man slips down from the roof

what do you mean artificial, they have engineered or man-made wood made out of wood chips, LVL, LSL, OSB
And there is now recycled plastic that looks like wood that gets turned into decking, flooring and even patio furniture.
I think I commented on another of your comments but the USA and Canada harvests timber in a very sustainable matter. The days of clear cutting and leaving the land devoid of any trees or landscape are long in our past. Now we do what is called patchwork clear cutting folloed by replanting. I will find you a section in California and pin you the link on google maps

Zoom in, that is predominantly redwood forest, the patchwork is selective harvesting to lesson the impact on the forest habitat. What the map does not show is that the forest is generally speaking replanted and it is done in cycles so that there is always habitat. The EPA ( Environmental Protection Agency) and CARB ( California Air Resource Board) have very strict regulations on this type of stuff.
On a last note, don't look how the world's metal supply is harvested that we all use, as it is generally really hard on the landscape leaving big holes in the ground especially in nations like China with little regulation. In the USA I believe we recently passed a law stating the land must be restored once the mining operation is shut down. But metal is totally different subject.

No I mean artificial timber. Because in underdeveloped countries and many Asian populated countries there is no concept ko farming timber and they mostly cut down fruity trees commonly mango trees for furniture purposes only. And there is no law against cutting of Fruity Trees. So can I ask you it it possible we introduce an artificial manufacturing of timber which may not be costly , environment friendly , protected from sunlight and other extreme weather conditions and very effective in other material testing experients its load bearing capacity and strong in seismic conditions , lateral and shear forces etc.

Do you ever build houses that are not framed out of wood?

ohh my God . I strongly condemn such brutal killing of trees. They are shields for our next generation.
Quite contrary, wooden frame construction is much more sustainable and eco friendly than galvanized metal or especially masonry, it’s nearest two competitors.
Our wood in the USA is farm raised it isn't generally old growth timber but douglas fir grown in tight formation to force upwards growth which perfectly straight and the trees are generally not real old at least in tree terms, like 20 to 40 years old depending on the areas growth productivity. Also the OSB (oscillating straid board, aka the sheetimg) is made from the cut off chips when the trees are turned into dimensional Lumber so there is actually very little waste... Even the saw dust gets turned into fiberboard and the bark gets turned into ground cover mulch for Californias (the American West) arid landscape. As for construction wood waste it useally goes to a green waste recycling plant where it is sometimes composted, burned for renewable energy (in a low emissions electric plant) or it is sometimes even recycled into a different wood based product.
And on that note the USA is actually a world leader for reforestation projects only recently falling ro second behind China but that is because the USA has been doing reforestation since the 1930s so I would imagine there isn't a lot left to reforest.
