It's easy to look a "Beyond Oasis" and compare it to Zelda, but the deeper you go, the more you'll realise just how unique it is. One of the very best games here for sure.

Hell the Genesis was a sports gamers dream but as someone said no NBA Jam, or Madden, or Techmo NFL. ANOTHER BUMMER. Actually seeing this whole video DAMN. This is a great library. Strongly agree with Aladdin. Kind of don't care about Mortal Kombat because it is so widely available on pretty much every modern system and it doesn't even really hold up all that well. For me its a 15 minute nostalgia trip and that's about it. Aladdin is a timeless game though, and I had Lion King as a kid and thought that was pretty much equal to Aladdin. I'd substitute the Mickey games for those.

Dude, I just tried to play that on the Konami Contra collection for pc released this year and sound is totally off. I understand it has an internal emulation but genesis emulation is something people. never. get. right.

I am a diehard Sega fan for life. I think you were being generous with Alex Kid. I give Alex Kid in 1989 a 5 out of 10 and in 2019 a 2 out of 10. I got my Genesis in 1989 and it turned me into the diehard gamer I am today. I disagree with some of his reviews but not enough to make a fuss over it. I enjoyed this very much and I can't wait, the 19th can't come soon enough. I pre-ordered two Genesis Mini's (one for me and ine for my fiancee) as they will make an excellent addition to our retro game room. Wait...Strider makes a 4.5 out of 10?! No, I got this game when it was new and I still own it today. Strider is an excellent Sega Genesis game that deserves at least an 8 out of 10. For reference, I recently played it a few weeks ago and my only complaint is that it's too short. If I'm pulling hairs it is way to easy.
Yeah a 5 is definitely harsh for Altered Beast. A solid 7 to me. Yeah the graphics are dated and it's cheesy but that's also what makes it great. Never get tired of hearing "POOWER UP!". ;)

The large sprites were very impressive for it's time. Keep in mind, for home consoles, most people in North America were comparing the graphics to what they saw on the NES. A huge jump in graphic quality, for sure!
I loved World of Illusion as a kid. I got to share the 2013 remake of Castle of Illusion with my daughter and we both had a blast. I wish they'd remake World of Illusion, too. Thanks for taking the time to make this great compilation review! Makes me want to get a Genesis mini.
I feel like a bum. I remember watching Victor on G4 in the early 2000's. I had no clue he was still in content on TH-cam. It is nostalgic for me just to hear his voice! This is so cool for me finding this out even if I am late to the party! Subscribed and will now be looking through all the other videos probably all weekend.
The bean game is awesome with two people. I think it is much more lackluster solo. What makes it exiting is getting the giant combos of row after row of beans and having it bury your opponent.
Thanks for the review. As soon as I saw ghouls and ghost, I knew I had to get it. I work in the boreal forest 6 months per year and my brother in law visits every year. Ghost and Goblins is the only thing we play when it rains on the Snes mini, so now we'll have this one too ! :)

Great review. Cant wait to spend some more time with my favorite childhood console. I have to say though that I have a very soft spot for Sonic Spinball, I give it a 9/10 :) I always loved the challenge of getting to the end, its not an easy game.

I've said this before but do you think they can make some sort of attachment that'll allow you to play game cartridges in the mini? Because if you have game cartridges you still wont be able to play them unless you have a regular Sega Genesis.
I probably will but it's a little harder to find since you can't really usually find it in stores. Plus it would be more expensive since you have to buy all your games individually.
Still beyond baffling to me why the Sega Genesis Mini would not include a USB plug-in where the non-functional aesthetic slot was to insert cartridges. I would have happily bought future collections of games that were like 20 for $20. Maybe give them time to work on obtaining the licenses to some of the games missing like Aladdin, Mortal Kombat, etc; as well as releasing some of the missing sequels for series that only included one title from their flagship series: Sonic and Knuckles, Streets of Rage 1 and 3, Shining Force II and Shining the the Darkness, they could even release some Master Drive collections. Seems like a huge opportunity missed... unless they plan on releasing Sega Genesis Mini 2 sometime in the distant future.... :/
I've seen some reviews say that there is a bit of an audio lag, and that there is a software issue that causes the console read one push on the D-Pad register as two pushes on the D-Pad, making it hard to play, and Tetris unplayable. Is this true?
Electric Playground is still a thing?! Or maybe they came back? I dunno but that's the same guy I used to watch from the 90's episodes but just older! I always liked these guys better then X-Play. Sometimes on X-Play they acted like a bunch of jerks. X-Play would piss me off so much I came close to writing them a few times.
Not as many choices but you have a couple and you can stretch and add scan lines or you can make it all with a black border in 4:3 which is the way I prefer to play.

I used to play ones like Elevator Action, Paperboy, and the Atari collection on my Commodore 64, so the graphics look fine. I guess we have been locked at home too long, because it looks like fun, so going to order one....

I need to get Strider 2 on the ps2, it comes with the original arcade version. I would actually give strider a 9 myself, it was one of the first games that used an 8 meg cart which was huge back in the day. A near perfect conversion with a better soundtrack.

In it they specifically give a side-by-side comparison of Strider on both original hardware and M2's emulation attempt on the Mini to demonstrate some problems that it has; namely his sword sounds different (like crap) and there is an annoying sound delay every time you use it.
Definitely a mixed bag for a collection. Great to hear your thoughts on every title. 🤔 Still bizarre they will not contain a series of games, just one per franchise. Is there a hardware limit?
M2 is the ones that handled most if not all the ports for this. they are very meticulous and are right now probably the best at porting. They are perfectionist and if they did what you say and ported 100 games, it would have taken years to complete this.
I think you should compare the different collections versions of the xbox 360, vs the xbox one, vs the steam version, vs the multiple mini and retro console versions of the genesis collection. Because it seems like there are games that are only on certain versions.
I’m glad all big companies released mini consoles but they really missed out in my opinion. They should have (and still should) release a 1:1 hardware versions in original packaging that would have the 42 games built in and re-release some cardridges as well. Think how much cooler it would have been unboxing an actual original hardware Genesis. The only original thing in the minis are the controllers which are the most important part for me but still i hope they would still do the hardware versions with perfect gameplay and zero lag and controllers that have the original ports.
Nice review ! To me, the presence of Virtua Fighter 2 sounds like "Hey, look ! Virtua Fighter 2 on the Mega Drive !". While I get why hits like Aladdin or Sonic 3 & Knuckles didn't make it, I sure would have traded Alex Kidd and Virtua Fighter 2 for Rocket Knight Adventures and Streets of Rage 1, which really SHOULD have been in the selection. Also seeing Castle of Illusion is there, QuackShot shouldn't have been left out.

Altered beast is a classic and one of my first games on my sms, I still love it, it was part of my childhood.

Great review. I played Gunstar Heroes earlier this year for the first time and was amazed. It's definitely a 10, and I love it.

meh. This thing is easy hackable like the SNES MINI, and you can upload your own ROMS.
Yeah, you can actually fit hundreds of games on the built in memory of the snes mini. 16 bit roms sizes are tiny.

Nice video. I think Sega missed a major opportunity here to include Sega CD and 32x versions of a couple of these games.
Phantasy star 4 is easily a 10 out 10. But I agree all of them should be on there. Wish this minis would go extra mile and put like 100 games there
M2 is the ones that handled most if not all the ports for this. they are very meticulous and are right now probably the best at porting. They are perfectionist and if they did what you say and ported 100 games, it would have taken years to complete this.
Considering they already did Phantasy Star 1 for the Sega Ages line that could have easily been on here.
I think you should compare the different collections versions of the xbox 360, vs the xbox one, vs the steam version, vs the multiple mini and retro console versions of the genesis collection. Because it seems like there are games that are only on certain versions.
Cool reviews, by the way there's a simple and well known software out there that allows extra games to be added to the Genesis Mini.
Tetris is in there because it never got officially released on the Genesis. There's something like 4 copies in existence. PS - I enjoyed your rundown

I’m glad all big companies released mini consoles but they really missed out in my opinion. They should have (and still should) release a 1:1 hardware versions in original packaging that would have the 42 games built in and re-release some cardridges as well. Think how much cooler it would have been unboxing an actual original hardware Genesis. The only original thing in the minis are the controllers which are the most important part for me but still i hope they would still do the hardware versions with perfect gameplay and zero lag and controllers that have the original ports.
Nice review ! To me, the presence of Virtua Fighter 2 sounds like "Hey, look ! Virtua Fighter 2 on the Mega Drive !". While I get why hits like Aladdin or Sonic 3 & Knuckles didn't make it, I sure would have traded Alex Kidd and Virtua Fighter 2 for Rocket Knight Adventures and Streets of Rage 1, which really SHOULD have been in the selection. Also seeing Castle of Illusion is there, QuackShot shouldn't have been left out.

Is there any way to improve the smoothness in graphics on this console??? I have a 4K 55in TV and god every fucking game looks super blocky. What can I do???
