This track definitely stands out visually for sure. And the random boosts does spice things up.

Thank you! Musical analyses are done for each Booster Course, and there's a link to the playlist for my music analysis series, Melodies of Gaming, in the description, too.

There's a bit more to those dash panels in 8 Deluxe's version of Moonview Highway. I believe it's already said, but those dash panels are much larger than Tour and the original Wii version and take up an entire width. Oh, also, no trucks in 8 Deluxe follow any Bob Omb cars and because of that, they are seen on their own and only drive on the right side of the road alongside the Cars. All Trucks and Surfboard Trucks drive exclusively on the left.

    • @PeachToadstool
      @PeachToadstool ปีที่แล้ว +5

Ah, you're right! I seem to have mentioned the size difference in All Changes in Athens Dash, but not this analysis. And I didn't realise trucks stayed on the left side! Nice catch!

    *Other gameplay details not mentioned:*
-The wallride section visible at 2:02 was removed along with the trickable slope that elevated the grass patch
-All item boxes in the first section were removed except for the two standard sets and the extra boxes at the dash panel ramp. Those standard sets also no longer have gaps where the traffic would drive through
-The guard rail was also extended to cover both sides of the bridge
-All dash panels that spanned the entire width of the road are now removed, but the ones that remain are now the width of one entire lane
-Dash panels are now eligible to appear much closer to the finish line than before
-Vehicles in the left lane now travel 50% faster than vehicles in the right lane (before it was the same), and the spacing between all vehicles is now less consistent
-The exact number of vehicles on the map is now 16 compared to 28, with 3 being surfboard trucks that help the racer more than harm them
-Bomb cars are no longer absent from Time Trial mode. Additionally, they now have much larger hitboxes and can roam on their own without being accompanied by a truck
-Bomb cars are now exclusive to the right lane, and trucks are exclusive to the left lane
Overall, one would be surprised how different this course is compared to its Wii iteration... in ways that mostly undermine the course design established in the original. Awesome analysis though!
*EDIT:* Additionally, vehicles in the left lane drive unusually wide when taking the right U-turn before the bridge, and vehicles in the right lane drive just as wide when taking the left turn right before the bridge. No idea why this would be the case.

      - Oh shoot; you're totally right regarding the bank at 2:02 and everything in the geometry there. For some reason, this was passed up, probably because of my prior research already done for the Tour video, but that was a Biggest Changes video, so relying too much on that was bound to have something fall through the cracks, even when scanning the course again.
      - Item boxes many times aren't mentioned unless they're of particular interest--same for coins.
      - Not sure what you mean by the guardrail. Was this change made in Tour or 8 Deluxe? One extended guardrail is mentioned at 1:57.
      - I may have tried to include the long Dash Panels as part of an umbrella change than calling to them specifically, but I noticed them during research. Sorry about that.
      - I think the Dash Panels closer to the finish line are the result of the track compression made in Tour. Am I mistaken here?
      - Those are some really interesting additional vehicle details. It would've been interesting to have kicked back and just watched all the traffic and asked many questions about how they interact, beyond what was done. You did a great job checking out all of this.
      - See above.
      - See above.
      - See above.
Hopefully errors made here won't be repeated in a future analysis. It really goes to show that even 30 videos like this and some sort of significant mistake can be made in judgment. Thank you for taking the time to check all of this.

@@PeachToadstool -Usually, I agree that item box placements are rather unremarkable, though in this case I considered the placements to be relevant to the risk/reward course design present in the original track.
-In the original Wii version, you are able to fall off the sides of the bridge because there is no guard rail anywhere along it. That was changed in the Tour and 8 versions.
-I have not examined the course geometry of the second half enough to know whether this is intentional or just a side effect of the compression that went untouched (I am personally inclined to believe the former), but yeah, the last dash panel can now appear right by the last set of tollbooths rather than a good distance away from it.
But hey, do not worry about anything here that may have been missed. Your analysis videos nonetheless always maintain such a great standard of quality even in areas I know nothing about such as music, I am very appreciative of your effort! Meanwhile, I'm just some guy who really wanted Moonview Highway to return, got infuriated by how bad the gameplay of its remake is, and have been studying the course since to back up my claims.

    • @PeachToadstool
      @PeachToadstool ปีที่แล้ว +1

      - Fair enough! I do mention special items or coin setups, and risk vs. reward would be a good reason to mention.
      - Ah, yes; I see now! It's part of the bridge's redesign, so I used an umbrella coverage there, but where I erred is that it affects the gameplay, so at least that part should have been isolated as a gameplay change. It seems this is one of the sloppier jobs I've made from trying to take certain analysis shortcuts (an older video I created combined with just moving on too quickly). I'd like to say that I'll try to be more careful next time, but it's a lot of trial and error in balancing time spent assessing and create an overall interesting product. I come from the 'accuracy' side of things, so I screw up a lot when it comes to time, and so certain decisions can cause accuracy to plummet, like with Wave 1's general assessment last year. I'll see what I can do going forward.
      - There are some models you can check out to see what is happening from a different perspective. I use both direct footage that I take and models for a different view, and no one else is involved in these projects other than Tom with the thumbnails and Tris with Tour footage. So it's mostly a one-person project each analysis.
Thank you again for your time.

I was so happy this course has been so much more love in recent months. It had not been remade until Mario Kart Tour announced it in the Night Tour, and just only a couple weeks later, it got brought into Wave 5 of Deluxe! And the Switch version may not have the same chaos it did like in the Wii (since there’s not too many crazy drivers lol) but I’m just so happy this amazing highway course has been shown a lot of love.

Oddly I still prefer the Wii version aesthetically and I don't know why. Maybe it's because it better captures the aesthetic and mood of driving through a city at night that I used to do back in the day. The later versions feel too polished, if that makes sense. Either way this is some wonderful coverage about the differences that helped me better compare.

Those are the more percussive synth stabs (mentioned in the video) that are similar to what a DJ might have in the arsenal. Such samples can have a mixture of elements, like heavily modified vocals. If these stabs have vocals, they're nowhere near as apparent as the Shy Guys in DK Summit, which do say "1, 2, 3, GO!"
