You must have animals in Sweden that don’t exist in the USA, right? The different flora and fauna is part of why we travel. You go to Hawaii to swim with turtles, Yellowstone to see bison, Alaska to see Elk, and Oregon (the beaver state) to not see a single beaver because of over hunting and habitat destruction.

Here in the northern part of America you can go to a local reserve or pond and see wild hatching baby turtles. The species was red eared slider.

    • @Annie_Annie__
      @Annie_Annie__ 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

I live in Texas and the pond by my house is full of wild red-eared sliders.
It was actually weird to me when I was a kid/teen and figured out just how common they are as pets because they’re such common pond turtles in my area.
I take my kid to go feed the ones near us. We feed them leafy greens and berries and mostly just whatever produce we have. They also really like dried mealworms (which the ducks and ibises also love).

Hey man, just figured I'd comment here to make it easier...
after you put your grass seed down, put straw down over it, this will hold the seed down in the wind, it'll help retain moisture for germination and it'll cover the grass seed from birds and chickens until it has time to sprout..

I built my Eastern box an outdoor enclousure out of 2 x 6's and covered it with a screen so nothing can get to him. The ground where he is, is relatively hard so ive never had a problem with him trying to dig out. Used a tray for water (which i change every day or every other day), have burried plant pots for hides and planted a couple ferns in there. He also has an indoor setup for the winter, but he really enjoys getting some natural rays.

I've trimmed a few bushes in my day to know how to make it stupid easy but simply put the trimming was a fine job, but to speed up the cleanup its worth investing in getting a large painting tarp. You put the tarp down where you're gonna trim so that the trimmings fall on the tarp, bunch up the tarp and then drop the trimmings + tarp in your dumpster and then pull the tarp back up. Saves you a lot of time.

I have an idea for Harriet. Use chicken fencing, the stuff that has the hexagons in them, and wood. You can dig in the ground a bit to bury the bottom of the mesh cage if your worried about her digging out. For a door I would recommend having the tip be removable.

  • @nogames8982

The black tubs can heat up a lot from the sun hitting them. Get one of those floating fishtank thermometers and check ot s few times a day. Planting things infront of it will help but until then mayne consider painting the outside white with dry lock or something?
Also some birds might think your snapper is a nice sized meal and pick him up and drop him. I would put chicken wire over the top til he's giant..

I care for a common snapping turtle, and they're quite sturdy. Ours is now almost fully grown, it took us 7 years to get him there, he was a slow grower too.
Just ensure they get PLENTY of calcium (I shove powder down the mice and fishes mouth 🤮) as we gave ours the same amount as the terrapins but his shell went a bit funny before we noticed and corrected his intake.

When my turtles are inside over the winter they will bask contentedly and not freak out when the family moves around their aquariums. As soon as we put them outside in the pond for the summer months they get super skittish and dive off their basking platforms as soon as anyone comes near. I think this is because in the aquariums their basking docks put them at about our head height. But outside they are much lower, so I think they see us as more of a threat when coming at them from above. That’s my theory.

READ THIS PLEASE: my friend gave me a leopard gecko that had MBD because he “couldn’t take care of it” in reality he just didn’t want it and neglected it so now it’s with me and I’m not a leopard gecko expert and I’m trying to rehome it and I was wondering if emerald scales would take in a Leo with MBD.

I don’t think Alex will see this or answer it but I think they would. Email his business email (probably on the site) to have someone answer properly!

I’d just be wary of hawks and of herons and the like.
I’ve seen herons eat things like turtle hatchlings (though, when it comes to reptiles, they seem to prefer anoles. They *love* those things).
Maybe put some mesh or chicken wire over the snapper until he’s bigger.

dudes got plant beds already setup and isn't turning them into turtle and tortoise enclosures. Also I think franklin deserves an aquascape ecosystem pond

Dude shouldn't have to use every part of his house(including plant beds)to home the animals. He may want to have those to y'know, garden? Fresh plants for animals, maybe? Kinda rude for some people to act as though he should do that even though he already does so much for the abused animals he saves.
