    Man! How many of us raced these things with the stock suspension and motor with only a pipe, silencer and some jetting? Plus back then I weighed in at 160 lbs and didn't know any better. I'm glad I grew up and lived through the span of racing these things.

    I rode one a friend of mine had. It was fun, I remember being impressed with how fast it was. I couldn't believe it was a 250.

    My brother got one of these. My father bought it brand new for $500 from a guy who waited until late at night at the Big E in Springfield Massachusetts and snuck into the back of the Honda display tent when no one was around and cut the chain with some bolt cutters then rolled it out of the back. He backed his van up to it and tossed it in one-handed because he only had one arm. That was his thing because no one would ever suspect a one-armed man to be able to lift anything that heavy by himself. We also got a brand new 1985 Honda CR 125 for $500 the same way. A year later, I was riding the bike with some friends and stopped at a local store at the end of one of our trails to grab something to drink. While we were in the store, the environmental police showed up and wanted to see our registrations (that's Massachusetts for you), but I didn't have one. We all had to stay in one area close to the cops and he told me that since I didn't have a registration he'd need to take down my VIN number while he was with one of my friends bikes. I knew I was screwed so I asked him if he minded if I shut off my gas, and he said no problem. I jumped on the bike and took off. A couple hours later he showed up at my house (thanks for ratting me out guys) and wanted to see the bike, but my father and I already had a plan and we just showed him a different bike (my legit '83 XR 200). He didn't know any better, and no one got busted (thank God because my old man would've been P¡$§€D). Good times.

      These were found in an old Honda dealership on VHS. I had them digitized a few years ago, most all of the ATV lineup for both 1984 & 1985. Glad you enjoy them!

    Funny how they dissed the Kawasaki Tecate at the end. I have both. The Honda is definitely a more well built and refined machine, but the Tecate is a rocket.

    I'm curious as to why Honda switched the orientation of the chain from the right side on '84 and earlier R's to the left in '85 and subsequent years.

      I thought it was over 80. Dang thing has nearly 40 hp. I believe the 350X is close to over 65 mph. My '85 200X can hit 57 stock.

    WOW this is great thanks for sharing!
    Very well done this clearly had a healthy Honda budget too. The bike mounted cam shots are great - back then it was prob nearly as hard as what Bruce Brown went thru for On Any Sunday!
    Love the story how you got them. You got to wonder if Honda ever digitized the masters & put on DVD at some point. But they prob did these no better than the bikes themselves & walked away.
    Did you say you have other models? Still have my 85 200X bought new in the crate at 16!
    Still makes me sick all the new bikes they cut into pieces thanks to a bunch of idiot powers that be trying to save thair fellow idiots didn't respect these bikes. Makes as much sense as blaming guns. Oh well then let's ban knives too! 🙄
    I've heard stories that these chopped up ATCs showed up at motorcycle mechanic schools. Brand new. 😩

    In this video I’ll wager my money that those two riders were more than likely Dean Sundahl & Maybe Curtis Sparks ?? Dean for sure …. But do you know who the skinnier guy was ? Just curious….

    • @MacWorthVintageATVs

      I believe it was Dean Sundahl and Mark W if my memory serves me correctly?

    • @stephenmiller5023
      @stephenmiller5023 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MacWorthVintageATVs I knew Dean personally and also rode with Bob “ Ace “ Williams here in San Diego area tracks . Bob , Billy Tally & Broc Glover started “ 3-B Lightning “ building High horsepower race 3 -wheelers and selling aftermarket accessories. Bob was seriously injured on one of their 465 Yamaha powered creations out behind shop when the throttle stuck wide open & he crashed & suffered a massive head & neck injury that pretty much ended his career and eventually his life . He and all those early ATC Riders had some serious talent & riding abilities. I even went to school with Sam & David Coe , and knew Danny Duncan Senior way back when he was just starting out Duncan Machine & used to help out from time to time in his shop in Santee with projects & cleaning up shop in exchange for machine work on my 155cc & later 180 cc Honda methanol burning track 3 Wheelers . But Old Dean once he hired on with Honda as their rider to race In Baja was the star of our group . I even worked with Robin Davis back then as we both worked at An International Harvester dealer shop in El Cajon , and she was FIRST & I believe only Female Honda 3 wheeler factory sponsored racer way back then as well . Those were the good old days for sure. 😎👍

      True statement. I say if you can’t ride don’t buy one. Hand full of people got them banned. I’m sorry for the people that got hurt. But if I jump off a roof. Are they going to banned the second story. Not right. I own 2 of these & loved them.
