FIRST ,,THANK YOU MIKE COE ,,FOR YOU SHARE THIS VIDEO ,,,FROM YOUR OWN PERSONEL ARCHIVES OF ATC RACING ,,,BACK IN THE 1980'S,,, I ,,MYSELF ,,DURING THE 80'S ,,,WAS RACING 3WHR'S TOO,,ALONG WITH MY COUSIN ,,WHO WAS 2 YRS OLDER THAN I ,,WE LIVE IN THE IMPERIAL COUNTY ,,,ALOT OF SAND AND DESERT OUT HERE. Only really good memories come back ,,when seeing this video ,,,i was in high school ,,at the time when this video was shot . Im still looking for footage of the races from saddleback ,pomona, carlsbad ,,and mickey thompson grand prix footage ,,maybe you could post some of those video's,,,if you have them ,,,thxxs again
yeah I remember Mike Coe racing the new watercooled 250r's in 86 sleeved down to 200cc for that class. If I remember correctly mike was so fast on the sleeved down 200cc that he would race in the 250 class and still win with it.
Yep ,,thats right ,,same with steve mendhall ,,for kawaski tecate's,,,i had a red 250 tecate,,bassani port on the head ,,bassani pipe and tip ,,white bros swingarm shock,,terry cables shocks in the front ,gunner gasser twist throttle,,,hossier, othusu, carlisle, short track tires, raced all the way up in to the early 1990's,,
This isnt just one race, they must have edited two motos together into this video because Coe has blue pants in some parts and red pants in others, including the interview at the end...I know Coe was fast but not fast enough to change pants in the moto and still win! Great Vid!
My brother Darrell Chapman used to race in Florida and won the Grand Nationals in San Antonio in the 80s, maybe around 83 or 84. He rode a Honda and his number was always 00. If there is any video out there of that race could you let me know?
i saw an old poster add that had eddie racing a custom suzuki atc. it had no info on the motor or the frame, i saw the pic on a suzuki quadracer website but i cant find the link but i definitely was a atc, had a 2 stroke pipe, and had suzuki on the tank, and the article had his name on it.
These races were the perfect mix between motocross and flat track, sad so many goons ruined three wheeler sales who couldn't ride them properly. Quads were boring to ride and watch by comparison.
@KARLish33 Mike Coe didn't stop ATC racing in 1984. And yes, this was the last year of the Airfooler being produced by Honda - but - a lot of non factory racers continued to use their well tuned Foolers well into 85. Some for money reasons and others just went with a 'if it aint broke ..' way of thinking. By 1986 pretty much everyone had converted over though.
Honda was experimenting with watercooled technology at this point. Visit airfoolers website for more info and pics of these early prototype water cooled heads.
we did some Young GUys on Old machines races down here in the south. but it was more of a private thing that a private collector funded to get us 'kids' to experience them
Holy crap!!! I am having some crazy flashbacks from watching these videos!!!! Thank you for putting them up. I really miss racing three wheelers.
This is where REAL rider experience was showcased!
i wish i lived in the years of ATC racing, 3 wheels for life
This is Great!

WOW NOW THATS SOME RARE FOOTAGE!
This music makes the video comedic.
+Dylan Tindall Old school the only music i would allow in a 3 wheeler race.

My era!
The KINGS of ATC racing
That’s some 80s music right there
Stupid question, if this was a race from 1983 how is White riding a 1985-kxt? Just curious.
Wes Soflomia they came out in late 83 early 84 as a 84 model year
@Wes - And because Jimmy White and Chris White got them early, both being factory Kawasaki riders and all.

Wow nice history here
Honda was experimenting with watercooled technology at this point. Visit airfoolers website for more info and pics of these early prototype water cooled heads.
It was an RM250 converted. very trick machine. could have really used the 87 LT250R motor with an RM cylinder though!!
Where in Santa Cruz is this?
Ya thts a tecate, not a Honda! Honda NEVER mounted the radiator in the forks, only Kawasaki
Flin they are racing them again but it is mostly up north it seems.
Awesome video. Were you the number 51? Figured so.Nice race brother..
