CORRECTION - I just realized when I did an earlier reset on the watch I hadn't increased the flashlight to maximum brightness again, so it was 3/4 illuminated - the brightness on the Tactix 7/Fenix 7X is 44 lumens - above the iPhone 14 - still less than the I2X's 69, but not by half.
Great comparison! I've been comparing so many models and couldn't find someone showing how some features are just useless for some people in the Fenix and that makes the Instinct so worth the price.
I’m using an older Fenix 7 solar and now considering moving to the 2x Tactics for its pure simplicity and robust build. I personally don’t think a color screen is required and music etc are all gimmicks. I’d always vote for a longer lasting rugged watch.
Great comparison. I have the Tactix 7 AMOLED but I’m considering buying the Instinct 2X Solar Tactical due to battery capacity. Worried I might miss the touch screen and shiny objects the AMOLED gives me.
I took a chance with the Instinct 2x it suits me I like to run, cycle and head out into the wilderness hiking where i really don't need mapping just a get me home option and massive battery life. It's a really cool watch and it performs 😀

And this is exactly what I did, I went from the G-Shock GBD-H2000, which was poor in my opinion, to the instinct X2. The Garmin is better in every way for me.

Same here, but I have a black one coming for $399.99. I'll swap out the band with some color to personalize it a bit. I'm assuming more colors will be coming to the I2X (and I hate to miss out on that). I've had the original Instinct since June 2019 but I believe the battery is going. I've run the heck out of it and it has served me well.
@@michaelhansen6802 I got red which I'm excited to see. Yeah the instinct caught my attention recently and I just ended up going down the rabbit hole until I got to the instinct 2x. My last smart watch did not hold up well, so I hope that the Garmin line would do the trick.

The Garmin Fenix 7 is now on sale for $499 at multiple retailers, just $50 more than the Instinct 2x. While this is the basic version, i.e. without solar or sapphire glass, it seems to be a really good deal relative to the $449 “too new to discount” 2x. Considering that the Pro version may be released very soon, this discounting may be a prelude to perhaps a more permanent or frequent price reduction on the non-Pro Fenix watches.
Yes! But just know the base model doesn't have dual band gps - but otherwise it's a good deal vs the 2X, or at least a competitive different type of offering
With Fenix 7 standard not having a flashlight, dual band GPS and solar charging, I don't see it such a great deal for me as a mountain climber compared to the Instinct 2x, but it depends what matters the most for you (better screen and metal bezel vs more advanced GPS + flashlight + very efficient solar charging).
Bought the 2X and never had to charge it so far out the box as solar is so efficient. So glad i picked it over the Tactix :)

Thanks for this great review! I used to own the F7X, Enduro 2 and Epix 2. I sold all of them and now have the I2X Tactical and a 265S when I wear one of my Omegas 😊! I really enjoy the bigger size ( owned the Instinct 1 back then) the color scheme (coyote) and the fact the it pairs with my Concept 2 ergs! The flashlight is obviously the icing on the cake since this was the main reason to get rid of my Epix even though I loved everything else. I hope that Garmin is going to use the case for more and different iterations of the Instinct in the future, especially at this really competitive price!
That sounds great! Totally agree, although it'll always be hard for me to get away from the solid build quality and feel of the metal casing watches. Yes I will be curious to see what comes out next!
@@fitgearhunter I know what you mean. I owned a Marq Aviator which I bought used on the bay and that was by far the nicest Garmin. In the future I would get on again if I find one in pre-loved condition.

Not long ago I made wish the Instinct would add a flashlight, then they did. Bravo. I moved to the Enduro 2 before it came out and good luck prying this baby off my wrist now it's paid for. That said the 2X is fantastic. .... so for my next wish: Garmin gets a better LTE emergency / text / call feature option. I'm not getting younger and just the ability to get emergency help should I need it, in case I fall and can't get up for example, would be fantastic!
Yep - totally understand! The enduro 2 is still (IMO) the single best watch on the market to date. Period. Hope they add those features next time - great idea!
I do like the better battery life when using gps on the E2. I really hope they don’t start putting microphones and LTE into Fenix series watches. That would raise privacy concerns for professional users.
The existing incident detect feature works well when connected to a phone, though it needs to be manually triggered on inReach.
I hope Garmin maintains its position and lets Apple/Samsung get on with the true smartwatch thing!

I went with the instinct 2. It has an old casio feel, Its battery is insane "I work outside" so its basically forever. Didnt need fancy toppos, Just trackback feature for when I want to venture into the woods. Plus the things built like a tank.

As a hunter, hiker, cyclist & ATV rider, I've enjoyed my Basic Instinct 1 for a few years. I was all set to just upgrade to the Killer Instinct 2x Solar Tactical, but I wonder if the Fenix 7x might be a better choice with the mapping?

@@campingalan The Epix 2 was on a 35% off sale at Amazon so I bought that, sold my Instinct, and the rest was paid a years of service award at my job! Loving the display on the Epix 2, and 6 day battery life with always on display is irrelavant. I just charge a bit when I hit the shower.
I have the forerunner 255 and i domt run either, but i do go to CrossFit like yourself, im always worried ill hit the screen of the watch and definitely never considered the instinct because of the looks, im now thinking because the instinct is solid as a rock, do i get one? But also i used to have the Samsung galaxy watch 4 classic and Garmin is miles better, now that the 265 colour screen is out im having fomo and then i think should i just get the 965 🤷🏻♂️ so confused.
I hear you! Yes - lots of options. The 965 screen is incredibly brilliant, but more delicate w raised glass. I think you could be careful and not break it, even if you pick up a scratch or two. The instinct 2X is awesome though, but def lacks the detail of the amoled screens. Best of luck deciding!
Torch brightness on the 2x is a game changer.

I am a gshock fan and have a few but want to move to a smart watch and not paying $3500 for gshock smart watche!
I am law enforcement and need something tough and to use outdoors when I fish, hike etc.
I prefer the Instinct b/c I don't need the maps or precise GPS becasue I don't get lost. I don't need the music either because I like my ears open to the enviromnent when I'm training in. I just really need a watch to tell me the time (and look cool) and track HR related metrics in the background. Also, I review the metrics on the web or my phone. Reviewing anything on the watch just plain sucks, no matter how good the screen.
Even the 2X have a multy gnss reciever, but the difference between the other is that there isn't the capability of automatic turn of the setup gpx mode, for maximize the precision and even the battery. I didn't have one now (arrive soon the 2X) , please correct me if i'm wrong
No I think that's correct. I don't believe the 2X has sat IQ which can bounce from one satellite to two depending on conditions. I don't think it makes a major difference in battery drain, but it depends on how long you are out in the wilderness!
@@fitgearhunter thank ! I do Activity that are near the Mountain Rock, like 'via ferrata'- Iron Path? In this case the GPS fatigue, but are long activity too and with different exposition at sky. The new function that automatic change setup reciever it's a beautiful feature to save battery. I live without this, but i prefer hope in a future upgrade of the X2
Golf on the Felix 7X is like getting a free S62 golf watch. Maps work in autos as well. Bottom line can’t get lost anywhere with the 7X variants.

I hope Garmin will bring the map on the instinct series in the next generation. It will be the ultimate watch (for me at least)
Do you think they could add a map in the monochrome display? I think it wouldn't be a very useful map, especially because of its relatively low resolution
@@DeletedDenizen I'm an instinct user from the very first generation and I just skipped the X one because of the laking maps. I think they could've done it already. But in that case it wouldn't have had much differences to the Fenix series. The map on the monochrome display would have less resolution for sure, but overall having a map is always better than not having it. Anyway I keep my finger crossed for the next series.
That may be hard with the pixel density of the watch but would be impressive if they figured out how to do it!

Nope - should not affect it - at least as far as traditional screen protectors are concerned - I don't know the alien brand/design - otherwise you're totally fine w solar absorption
You prefer the styling of the 2x reminds me of a good Gshock, the music is a key point for me so still rocking 255m

Yep, one of the great things I loved about my original Instinct (which I am upgrading to the I2X). Technically the Gshock vibe is "Retro" but since I've always liked Gshock since their inception and am older than that still, it may not be Retro for me. 😂

What is Battery life for Instinct 2x for your experience?
Well I kept the backlight high so battery life was impacted quite a bit. I was getting 12-14 days, with not a lot of sun exposure.
Can you play music on the fenix watch without having your phone near?
Only for Fenix/Enduro/Tactix and You have to have Bluetooth headphones connected and have downloaded music to the watch, but yes
Here price of Fenix 7 Instinct 2x Taxtical is same and Coros Vertix 2 is $100 more expensive. Which one to get? I am not into fitness too much, just want something that looks good in office and while jogging. Just need something that measures steps, HR, Oxygen all the time and gives some updates. Please help as I am not sure which to get.
Fenix 7 is same price?? Either the Fenix or the instinct are way more comprehensive solutions than the vertix. And the Fenix will look the best of all three I believe!

Yes rumors are that it is late May/early June. I would think based on past rumors that is probably accurate. I think it's gonna have some new features and a new heart rate sensor, and probably new style variants.
I like the instinct 2x.. but i will stay with the 7x because it gives you the opportunity to be free from your Handy :) Garmin pay and maps especially with the navigation is super.. and is also durable 🤙🏼

started garmin watches with forerunner 55. then upgraded to instinct 2. have been using for a year and a half, fallen in love with HRV monitoring.
and last week i just bought instinct 2x. know it is not a huge upgrade from instinct 2 but flashlight is a big thing too. you never know what's gonna happen next.
1000% agree. I have tested all these fancy high-end watches and yet here on my wrist sits the instinct 2X! It's currently my daily wear watch because it just does everything! And has the flashlight! And his way cheaper than the other series of watches that come with flashlights!
Mapping probably will be the one missing.
I find all the differentiation between Garmin products way too confusing, I still remember when the focus was on accurate HR and GPS, then along came the 3Ms (maps music money), and I thought they were useful..but now really?? Picking out watch weight and widths and thicknesses etc, one type of GPS over another, come on who really cares about this stuff..Steve Jobs set Apple on its current path by getting rid of BS products differentiation, Garmin should do the same.
Agree and disagree! I do for sure think there are too many iterations and styles and options and feature-differences, BUT I also do think that there are a lot of different personal preferences and wants and needs. Like bigger or bulkier or smaller or sleeker or more stylish or more analog or AMOLED display or MIP. Metal casing or plastic casing, etc. - I do think having a variety of different sizes is important, as well as a different set of screen technologies available. Plus - some want to pay for more extensive outdoor or training features, and some don't care about that at all. So I think the answer is more complicated.
And currently I like that Garmin sort of has a watch for everyone and hate that Apple is so restricted, it's why I stopped buying their stuff. They could do more to differentiate product lines to potential customers though

Edit: just saw your correction comment. Ik not many people care but how to the beam patterns compare? Is it brighter because it’s more focused? Do both flashlights use the same amount of energy?
Great question on energy - don't know! But yes the broader light on the 7X/T7 is nice in some situations, but generally find it to be better w the more focused and brighter

That is a tough one! Both are great prices. I would probably lean towards the F7 bc of the build design, screen, maps, and music.
Fancier screen on Fenix + Maps + Music storage vs dual-band GPS + solar charge + flashlight on Instinct 2x. Depends what you value the most out of these.
Which one did you choose? At the end it depends how you use it, I spend a lot of time trekking in the mountains so the solar 2x would meet better my needs 🥾
@@RNWLLSame here, I live near the Carpathian mountains and I hike weekly. For me the Instinct 2x was a better choice and I love it.
