Not a lot of people understand the power in what she did here. At the time people were so ignorant and believe you could “catch” AIDS by touching someone who was positive. Clearly that’s not true and someone of her stature shaking his hand was a really big deal. 💜💜💜

If their blood mixed with a cut on each of their hands then there’s a possibility she could. It can be passed through broken skin, so yea this handshake could have been deadly or given her HIV which then can lead to AIDS. It was seen as a punishment from God and anyone who showed mercy were "God did not" was feared to be subjected to the same punishment. Princess Diana did more than just show that it wasn't contagious by touch, what she did is show mercy and compassion and treated these men like human beings, scared and alone, desperate for help and not the refuse thrown out by the divine that the rest of society saw them as. He used to get calls from hospital staff asking him to come down to the hospital and comfort people who were about to pass from AIDS. They called him because they knew no one else would come. My dad grew up in a remote town in Greece and doesnt speak a single word in English, he has no idea who any outside celebrities are, yet he knew about this handshake "Princess Diana shook hands with people who had AIDS" he used to tell me. THATS how impactful and historical this moment was.

I remember how big of a deal this was, by her doing this at the time; she humanized AIDS patients everywhere. Such a beautiful woman inside and out, her presence is truly missed.
