I want to know one thing. Is Magnus Carlsen from this planet? The way he beat Kramnik a world class player and the rest of the Super GMS so decisively is beyond belief.
Thank you so much for posting this. I’m crushing with the London, but my full backs were when the position they’re queen to take the left side, which now I know to place the rook there to protect it, and not being able to bring my second bishop out because their bishop is already in place (bishop to f5). And now I know to be flexible with that bishop before bringing it all the way up. Great stuff thank you!

Judit Polgar once said that Magnus is extremely dangerous with his knights, so one thing that you have to do is swapping his knights. I am not surprised that he took a decision by entering endgame knight vs bishop and he simply outplayed Kramnik with his knight play in more or less equal position. Kasparov and Fischer were bishops lovers, but Magnus is a dark knight master.
I want to know one thing. Is Magnus Carlsen from this planet? The way he beat Kramnik a world class player and the rest of the Super GMS so decisively is beyond belief.
4:13 that's impressive because you'd think the best outposts for the knight should be c5 and e5, both controlled by the bishop, therefore white should have the worst minor piece. But together the Rd2 and Nd3 work great along with the pawn chain while the bishop has no target.
I really like the dynamic pairing system on this tournament. This way the strongest players are always playing against other strong players and we see a whole bunch of marquee matchups. Kudos to Karmnik for getting so high in the tournament and have an opportunity to challenge Carlsen.
Magnus deserves all the plaudits he gets of course but for me the real story of this tournament is Kramnik. How good was he?! He had Naka on the ropes in blitz and even out of retirement, he manages a third place finish. Just amazing.

2:46 Can somebody pls explain to me why Kramnik decided to recapture the bishop with the h pawn and not the f pawn? I heard the saying that you should capture with a pawn towards the center but opening the f file for the rook is also not a bad idea right?? I mean, white's queen side seems not easy to break, so why not just attack where the white king is??
This is probably one of the most common suggestions, but he has addressed it a few times and I agree with him. Basically as I understand it, he doesn't want too much focus on rating (just look at how Alireza is doing in this tournament)
if "doubled pawns" are so bad, why would kramnik offer to trade bishops to double pawns (and open a file adjacent to the king) ? Is this an error/inaccuracy/whatever?
Heres my take. Eventually an exchange will be made. Black might prefer the knight on D5. Yes you want to avoid doubling pawns if you can. But his opponent is Magnus its gonna be tough playing a flawless game.
Chess is complex. Sometimes doubled pawns are bad but it depends on the position and what material is still is play. Doubled pawns are often a liability in the endgame but they don't matter much if you're attacking (you might want your pawns doubled to create open files you can use for your rooks for example). Carlsen tends not to bother about having his pawns doubled at all - I recently saw one of his games where had 2 isolated pawns and 2 doubled, isolated pawns, so 6 paws and none of them could support each other
The surname *Kramnik* sounds as the most lethal in chess history to me, even more than *Kasparov* , which sounds rather "powerful" instead, but as in an energy-related kinda meaning. Now, if considering not only that last name but first name too, *Magnus Carlsen* sounds like "skillful". So, metaphorically, "Kramnik" would be a hitman, "Kasparov" a fighter and Magnus an armored warrior. Note: I thought about this metaphor *before* Antonio published the video titled "The Perfect Warrior". P.S.: "Ding Liren", if wrote *this* way, sounds like a ninja. lol

At 6:46, doesn't Rxg7+, Kxg7,Qh6+,Kf7, Ne5+,Qh7+ is winning. So instead of Kf7 Black must play Kg8 which leads to: Qxg6+, Qxg7 doesn't work because of Nf6+. True masterpiece
1:20 Nd2 is really on point
Am still a beginner, I didn't understand how white pawn captures at b6 when black pawn is at b5 at 3:26
It is a move called en passant where you can capture a pawn which is moved 2 spaces at the start in that position
At 4:55 if queen to H2, rook to H1 and then queen can attack the king in the h file supported by rook
At 4:57, why does Magnus move the Queen there, instead of pulling back to h3, to prepare to move the rook over and continue the attack?
I think it's bc on h3 the Queen is too passive. And also there's no point having the Q+R battery with Black dark square bishop there
Can we let the rook stay on the h file instead of castling? We had to bring it back there ultimately.
something funky at 3:35...was it supposed to be black pawn to b6?

Recapturing with the f pawn would weaken alot the e pawn and ruin the great pawn chain Kramnik had. I guess that was the reasoning behind it.
