warning to people: you need to go into the bios to turn off the option "fans always on", otherwise even at idle the fans will be on and are fairly loud for an office space.
Always appreciate your videos. Coming from a very good Dell XPS 15 purchased in 2017, I got the version with a RTX 2060 and vapor chamber cooling. Thought this was a great deal as the new XPS 17 is just too expensive for me right now. Unfortunately, fan noise of this version is unbearable to me because the fans kick in very loud even under light Word editing and browser surfing. I've checked your laptop fan noise video and researched Reddit on it -- the only way to counter it would be to use an external software like Notebook Fan Control. But I don't think I will keep this machine. You're mentioning fan noise yourself but it might be more bearable with the 1650 Ti you had.
Josh, thank you! I was waiting for your review of this particular model for some quite some time now. I know you work in order of prioritization and I really appreciate all the time and effort you put in your reviews. I think there is a reason why we still want your opinion on units that have been thoroughly reviewed by other youtubers, and that's precisely because your reviews are not just benchmark oriented, but give some real insight on what the day to day use is going to be. Keep up the awesome work, and I wish you the best of luck, and many, many more subscribers.

Quite good performance, great for anything work related and even some decent gaming (if you decide to go with the rtx 2060 max q varient). Thanks for reviewing it Josh, you are a fantastic reviewer!
@Zheyuan YANG yes i have the 4k version. The battery life is a about average of what you can expect from a 4k display. About 3-4 hours probably due to the large energy consumption. But i don't really mind since I pretty much always have the charger plugged in.
Hi Josh! just a recommendation, could you please include some audio playback while talking about the speaker quality of the laptop that's being reviewed? it'd add more detail into the review! thanks!
Hey Josh, if you ever run out of ideas you should totally review the most popular laptop ever(idk if it’s true but I see them ALL THE TIME at school, much more than anything else): the classic HP Pavilion. Just picked one up used with an i7-7500u for $150 which was a great deal. honestly it clearly has its flaws but I’d love to see someone like you compare a newer mid tier pavilion to other laptops!

I'm erring towards the Envy because of cost and because I'd be switching from Windows to Mac and not sure how I'll adjust.
How long and how hard you load laptop before getting fan noise result? It feels like you get much lower db then other reviewers, when other claim default have 50db and preformance over 55db. So I'm curious is it lower GPU spec or just not enough load:)
OMG I bought this laptop 2 days ago, and now the tech family is getting a review on this underrated machine. I’ll leave it to Josh to judge my decision here Edit: just watched it, I’m glad I chose this
Hi Josh. You say you can't charge the HP Envy via USB-C (I assume you mean with a USB C charger). How about with a docking station that delivers at least 90W of Power? Thanks. Love your videos btw. Cuts through to what us regular folks need to understand. In future, can you comment whether a laptop can be powered using docking stations (where possible) - Thanks!
Nice review...I am a value based buyer and to me the MacBook Pro 16 is simply not worth the additional $1,500+ you'd pay for it vs the HP Envy 15 laptop. That's just me.....
Did the screen hold up to daily use and abuse? They seem to have a lot of wobble in videos. It's top of my list for architecture school but a bit worried about the 2022 hp envy 16 over that issue
I was considering new XPS 15 to upgrade from 9550 model. It’s amazing, that Dell didn’t change the cooling solution of the XPS 15 for four generations. A premium priced computer. For the price of the machine HP came out with similar form factor and a good cooling from the boot. I hate the Frank Azors explanation/excuse „that the laptop is not for gaming”. Multimedia is much better on the Envy 15. Also have it just a week. The HP Envy software seems a small step down from Dell..
Which one you recomend? HP ENVY i7-10750 - 32 ram - 1tb - GTX 1660ti or HP ENVY i7-10750 - 16 ram - 1tb - RTX 2060 MaxQ? Use it for design on the go like Lumion, Autocad, Revit and casual gaming.
I agree this is a fantastic editing laptop - great power, excellent cooling, pretty good build quality, no ‘gamer’ aesthetic and a great screen. Nothing comes close to ticking all those boxes at the price level. I’d get the RTX GPU though...
Dear josh.very great review. I am split between buying this and dell xps 17. Please let me know how the sleep problem affect this laptop and is it already solved ? I read that the laptop is hot while sleep mode. And also it randomly restart.
I had this bad boy since 4th of July...unopened waiting for me at home. The graininess you see on close view of the screen has to be the touch layer....as other laptops like the gigabyte aero 15 with the same panel have an utterly clean image without visible grain close up. Still beats any LCD ✊🏾
I only see 15.6" diagonal FHD, IPS, micro-edge WLED-backlit, multitouch-enabled, edge-to-edge glass, 400 nits (1920 x 1080)...not 4K on the link for config options. Anyone else?
I got this one but mine has the GTX 1650TI, 16GB Ram, 512GB SSD, and the 1080p touchscreen. I like the medium size touchpad and precision drivers compared to my 17t HP envy with Synaptics driver and it’s small touchpad.
Great straightforward review as always. Some have complained about a dot pattern on the screen, particularly with white backgrounds. Was this noticeable to you?
Hi Josh, awesome review, really considering this laptop. I am generally using this for productivity, netflix and browsing. Productivity tasks are Power BI reporting and coding (machine learning and deep learning). I've watched your programming recommendation guide and you left out details regarding graphics cards, would the GTX 1650 Ti suffice or should I aim for the RTX 2060 for machine learning purposes?

Hey Josh, what do you think about the MacBook Pro 13-inch M1 vs this Envy 15? I'm considering both options, as they have similar prices, around $1500. What laptop do you think will get the best performance for video editing in premiere pro?
Too different. The Envy 15 has much better graphics and will be better for gaming and video editing. The MacBook 13 is a better all round machine but can't compete with the HP in the areas I mentioned
@@JustJoshTech thank you Josh, I'll try the envy, do you think a $220 upgrade is worth for a 3060 (6gb), or should I stay with the 3050ti (4gb) for video editing?
I'm actually quite shocked by this. Due to my previous bad experience with thermals and fan noise on HP laptops i decided to not even give this one a try. You're making me think twice. Would you still go for this over a dell XPS 15? taking into account future proofing etc
Thats a tough choice. Pro of the HP is 1) Price 2) Runs cooler to the touch 3) No major manufacturing issues such as the trackpad have been raised 4) Can spec it up with a more powerful GPU .... Pro of XPS 1) More premium feeling laptop 2) Better trackpad 3) Better keyboard 4) More useful 16 by 10 screen . Its a really tough call
@@JustJoshTech I actually did for the XPS 15 a couple weeks back, had to return it because of a ridiculous amount of dead pixels out of the box. Went for it again 2 days ago and guess what - trackpad isnt working. Cannot understand how Dell have QC issues like these on their most premium product.
Disappointed with your review mate after buying the i9 8 core version of this laptop. There are 2 clear and obvious flaws which you did not even mention 1) the OLED screen has a terrible touch layer overlay which is clearly visible on any light background and ruins the perceived resolution of the display making it look sub FHD. 2) On battery power the system is slow as the CPU is power limited to 34W and there is no way to change this with throttlestop or XTU etc. Basically on battery power the machine performs no faster than a low range Ultrabook processor. In fact it is on par with my Surface Book 3 15 (the whole point i bought this was to have a faster laptop). What is the point of a portable 8 core laptop if it runs like a 4 core system on battery power? If apple can make the MB16 not power throttle on battery than so should HP. I don't know how you missed these two very obvious flaws! this machine is going back for a refund as it is definitely not worth the money
I loved this review. purchased the HP Envy (canada). But not a great experience so far. Right out of the box, already issues. fan noise is off the charts and (hours of research later) I found its an HP BIOS setting always on even in sleep mode (why in the heavens??). Video playback is blurry and sluggish as is Internet connectivity (side x side tested with my older XPS 15 9560 touch and its completely different). Envy issues of Win 10? Either way Im still troubleshooting and this has been a LOT of work to do just out of the box. ps- the keyboard and touchpad are very clicky and loud. The keys require much more force to depress than the 9560 which surprised me considering the reviews.
@@JustJoshTech thanks for your reply. Just one last question given your experience with software coding and hardware: office, vba, visual studio, etc do they work on a Mac? I mean without boot camp or parallels so without running windows on a Mac. Thanks
Sir should I buy it or wait for next envy model with intel's 11th gen chip and similar specifications .......but I don't want to wait for so long..... Please guide me sir as soon as possible .....
Depends how desperate you are. The envy, M1, XPS, spectre are all great laptops right now and you can't go wrong with them. Apple is still yet to go and announce their M1 16" Pro version. There are many great laptops out now. If you are just waiting for the CPU chip to be better than I'd recommend buying now but if you are waiting for other things that you don't like about the laptops I'd recommend waiting
how can this 1660 ti laptop have a 1800 seconds result on your "premiere pro 4k h264 export" when you got a faster 1300 seconds export on the mx350 based zenbook 14 and much faster 373 seconds on your HP Omen Review (Ryzen 4800H + GTX 1660 Ti) ? is it not the same premiere benchmark project your are running on your different reviews ? or is it different premiere versions ? thanks for clarifying

@@JustJoshTech thanks for your reply. Just one last question given your experience with software coding and hardware: office, vba, visual studio, etc do they work on a Mac? I mean without boot camp or parallels so without running windows on a Mac. Thanks
In your opinion is it worth it to upgrade to the i9 processor for $450 on this model?
Curious. How is the ryzen version of Envy for productivity related tasks? Are they optimised worse?
What pen would you recommend? I like to use a pen to edit in photoshop.
Did you find an answer?
@@arshadm1693 no, not yet.

So would this be a good every day use for Photoshop, Lightroom, and Sony Vegas Editor at 4K or close to? Having a tough time winding down options.
Mine is a lower specs one but it’s arriving at nov 16
make a video on MSI CREATOR 15m with RTX, then compare if it beats this or not
how can this 1660 ti laptop have a 1800 seconds result on your "premiere pro 4k h264 export" when you got a faster 1300 seconds export on the mx350 based zenbook 14 and much faster 373 seconds on your HP Omen Review (Ryzen 4800H + GTX 1660 Ti) ? is it not the same premiere benchmark project your are running on your different reviews ? or is it different premiere versions ? thanks for clarifying
