I found out an hour before driving home from work, on the PA turnpike, that my dad would be going into hospice. The skies opened up and torrential rains fell. I could barely see and was doing 40 mph. I looked to my left and watched an immense, red trailer pass, currents of rain spraying in its wake. The word "Rob's" was emblazoned on the back of the cab. My dad's name is Rob. As if in a trance, and still trying to stay focused on the road, I reached for the knob on the radio and heard "Don't wait up. Leave the light on. I'll be home soon." My dad is making his transition right now, and it intuitively felt that this song was meant for us as a way to accept his passing.
I feel like it's more about making the most of life and the time given to us, and not sitting idle waiting for death to catch up to us. I'm very sorry to hear about your dad. I sincerely hope that when he goes that he goes peacefully and painlessly, and with all his loved ones there to see him off until you all meet again. I will pray for him.
