The brown paper bag is basically a way to drink in public and have the cops not bother you yes they know there's alcohol in there but like Gaynor said they have better things to do where the brown paper bag is kind of like an unspoken rule between the cops and the public that if they can't see it then most of them aren't going to bother you about it
I’ve heard that a brown paper bag over a drink alone doesn’t constitute reasonable suspicion to detain or search someone. Therefore if you refuse to show what’s inside the bag, they have no right to look. Not sure how accurate that actually is.
It's the same if you put a kid in a brown paper bag: the police won't care if you kidnap them.
Yeah, the brown paper covers whatever you're drinking. If the police can't see what you're drinking you can't legitimately be stopped over it and cited. We also make can coverings to mask beers as cans of soda (they're pretty convincing once in place) and stuff. A whole industry over getting by with drinking in public without getting in trouble over it.
Coffee mug or fountain drink cups work for me fine.🍻
@@tee4222 If they're walking past you and can smell any alcoholic beverage smell, that gives them probable cause.
😂😂😂 you just can’t go wrong with Conan bits. The one where he and Dave Franco go on Tinder is hilarious!
The brown bag serves multiple purposes. The camouflage mentioned by others plus it will help insulate the drink, a little, both keeping it colder and keeping from the cold affecting your hands.
Please do more Conan remotes/skits, some of the funnier ones are Conan throws Jordan schlansky a bachelor party, Conan tries cuban rum, and Conan and Jordan go wine tasting 😁 you won't regret it 🙏
spot on..they are so funny
Brown paper bags are tradition when you are just drinking 40s 😂 those plastic bags aren’t it. The brown paper bags unlocks the flavor
_"Triumph the Insult Comic Dog"_ is a must, as long as you're watching Conan remotes 😁. Triumph visiting the premiere for _"Star Wars: Attack of the Clones"_ is the first that comes to mind.
Wiener's Circle is a really good one (the blokes did that one first).. some others: ComicCon.. American Idol Hawaii.. uhh.. RNC and DNC..
@@kirikayumura6015 absolutely!
Conan is hilarious. There’s another episode of his where he goes to Italy with an assistant who claims to be an Italian expert - you should watch that one as well. I think it’s his best ever.
He's not an assistant lol but yes that was a great video
A really funny Conan bit is Conan delivering Chinese food in New York
The Conan remotes are great! Look for comedy bits with Conan and his personal assistant Sona. She's great!
Triumph the insalt comic dog would make all 3 of you crack the hell up!
Brown paper bag is basically a "technically, you can't tell if I'm drinking in public or not because you can't see what's in here" thing. But also, consider that there's a reason Conan didn't know about the brown paper bag thing: he's white. Yeah, they made it a joke (and it was funny), but black men get harrassed by cops way more often than white guys in this country, so they have to be extra careful.
Your mother is a treasure, I love listening to her tell you guys stories from the 80’s & 90’s when I was growing up. Beautiful family
The brown paper bag thing is pretty much a symbolism about a law so trivial that even cops don't feel like dealing with it. It's a lot of work for nothing. With the bag on, you can drink all you want and the cops will turn a blind eye. Without the bag, everyone can see what you're drinking so they are obligated to come talk to you and waste both your time and their time.
Conan and Steven Yeun from the Walking Dead go to a Korean spa is one of his funniest remotes in my opinion
I’m glad Aiden is back ❤
More Conan!
The brown bag so important 😂😂
Lol Uber is American too… the brown paper bag is just cool I guess, it’s the hood thing to do
Keep up the Conan
Uber and Lyft offer options for a private car or to share, but you would know ahead how long it would take.
Hahah love these. You have to check out his skits where he's traveling to different countries
Conan is 6’4, but his shoes and extra bit of hair makes him look 6’5,6’6
You have to use a app to order a lyft or a uber. They don't go around picking up random people
Keeps your hand from warming your beer to
You guys totally ignored Conan's comment about the tip. It's the best line in the whole skit.
I've never seen a taxi pick up random people while occupied.
Happy belated birthday Aiden
More Conan remotes!!! So much good content.
Thanks!
Thank you 🍻
I worked at Rockefeller center, twenty years ago, and would cross paths with Conan, infrequently... I'm 6'4, and I think he's slightly taller, just passing him in the hallways
Love your reactions. My granddad was English and I loved his sarcasm and accent. I sure miss him.
The outtakes are the best
12:56 conan kills me he has no street cred 😅😂 😂😆 Aiden lmao
Conan is great! I enjoyed your reactions! I recommend watching "Conan Visits The American Girl Store".
Yes.. it's Very funny 👍👍
Lyft and Uber are basically the same. I have no clue what other service she is talking about there haha :)
Never heard about the Jersey rudes?? Lol
Yes more Conan stuff please. Also he has a number of clips with Bill Burr too. Include both of their names in the titles for more views.
As an American who drank 40's back in the day we used the brown bag to collect condensation we didnt have coozys big enough.😂
Lyft is similiar to Uber. I used both of them.
I used to live across the street from that 7/11
since i was young you would never see a beer without a brown paper bag where i grew up.
I have caught taxi a lot over the years, and have never seen one pick up random people like Gaynor described. Also, back then, taxi's were a phone call away. Gaynor's memory is fuzzy
Wall township NJ 1996 they took me round the house picking up two other people who were going to the same place. None of us knew the others, and it happened I can assure you! Never again 😂
@@limeygaynor Taxi Companies were and are governor by a board, in each city, town, county etc. If a taxi did this, you should have reported them. When you get into a taxi, they set the meter, and charge you accordingly. This taxi you described is more like a bus, or what we call a gypsy taxi, which is an illegal taxi. I guess you know what you experienced, but that is not usual for Taxi in USA.
My gosh I love the whole family !!!
1:36 I've heard Karl Pilkington talk about something called "dial-a-rides", which seem to be a similar premise to what Gaynor 's describing in the beginning. So the must have had something like that in the 70's and 80s in Manchester. That would drive me... as Karl would say, "spare".
You all should watch Conan Aboard.
Been watching this channel for a few months now, I love you guy's, I love your accents, & your vibes are so beautiful. Aiden reminds me of Tommy from the show The Peeky blinders. Love that show btw lol.
They have more of these with kevin in disguise driving the lyft. That's funny too
I remember when Lyft started. You’d have to put a moustache on the front of there car and it was before Uber started. You can still use Lyft sometimes they’re cheaper. Taxis still exist but at airports nyc and Chicago but mum was describing a shutttle service
It’s also to keep the beer cold
In certain states you cant be holding alcohol without it being covered by the bag. When I worked at a gas station we had to put them in the bag before they left or you can get in trouble.
There are places where you can drink in public. Las Vegas comes to mind, of course it's a party town so you have to expect people walking around with drinks.
You can walk down some streets in the US and drink alcohol. In our state, they have designated zones where it's legal to drink as long as it's in a plastic cup and not a glass bottle.
It's easy to get around the brown paper bag and just put my beverage in a coffee cup or a water cup with straw. I have never been checked for what is in my cup, EVER!
Gina puting wine in her coffee cup is awesome lmaoooo
Someone needs to tell the folks in New Orleans to not drink in public. 😂
Exceptions to the rule. Las Vegas too. No glass containers though.
LETS GOOO! Please keep it coming with the Kevin hart vids!
Also keeps the beer colder longer…somewhat
Lmao yes we have the brown paper bags😂
Ugh oh. There's an echo. Sounds like Conan is doing a show at Anfield. Go Reds!!! 😉
Hello! That is not how Lyft or Uber work! I've never had a different person in the car, and I've never even heard of another customer sharing a ride with another! ;)
About the brown bag. It's illegal in most states to drink in public places so the bag is really for moving your drink from one place to another. I'm actually from Louisiana, New Orleans where our drinking laws are more relaxed. We can drink in public so we don't have this problem lol
the taxi driver probably heard gaynors accent and took on her no a tour through the city 😂
dont know what part of Jersey she was living at but jersey always had like over 30 different cab companies that dont pick up a bunch of people before they dropp you off, probably depends on what part of Jersey shw was at and what city
In New Orléans, it's legal to drink in public.
The food wars guys just tried Philadelphia cheesesteaks in Philadelphia. Would love to see your reaction
It's a little hilarious... Cheers, y'all
howdy from Mexico, Mom is beautiful!!!!
That's right. Wine in your coffee cup. At work you need vodka, just don't exhale too close to your boss.
Carpool Karaoke is fake. James C isn't driving. No one is. Well actually the person driving is the tow truck driver they are attached to. There is a video on YT showing footage. The guests just sit there talking and singing whiles James pretends to drive.
I lived in Coatesville, Pa.
Open container, $600 fine
Drink your beverage from a coffee cup
Coco is 6’7.
Love your reaction videos
In Vegas it’s not illegal to walk down the streets with alcohol but every where else it is and you will get arrested for open container
i believe only place, but i could be wrong, that its legal to walk down street with alcohol is the french quarter in New Orleans. Maybe Las Vegas but not sure.
Hi guys. Love your channel!
Two things…who is Sophie in relation to the family?
*Here in New Orleans…it’s legal drink in the streets. 🎉😊
Lyft came before Uber I believe in America but quickly lost a lot of market share. They pay their drivers a higher percentage of the fare, but they get less work. A lot of ride share drivers will work for both.
The bag is a deal, in good faith...
Omg sophie ❤❤❤
uber and lyft are american companies that allow you to basically hire a driver similar to a taxi but you can get better cars wih drivers that haven't given up on life.
There is also a funny video on youtube where Conan rides with a student driver that is worth checking out .
They just reacted to it.
@@emmef7970 Theres a second video of conan with a student driver .
It’s illegal to have an open alcohol container in a car, that why the bag. Everyone does know it’s alcohol though. You have to have more than a suspicion to be pulled over.
If they can't see the bottle or beer they can't legally stop you unless you're visibly drunk. It could be a soda for all they know. Legalities. Also, in my opinion the brown paper bag keeps it colder longer.
Lottery tickets LOL
Lyft and Uber are competitors both based in the US but they are the exact same tbh
Also, if police see folks exit a convenience store with merch not in a bag, they may assume it was stolen. The bag is to show it was paid for.
Not sure where you live but where I live people often walk out of convenience stores without bags. In fact in 50 years I have never seen a police officer detain someone that walks out of a store without a bag unless the store has called them and reported a theft.
I live in a beach town where people are in and out of stores with food, drinks, snacks, etc. at all hours of the day and night and if you just purchased a few things most people don't want bag including me.
It’s called public intoxication but if it’s in a brown paper bag it could be anything. Brown paper bags are only offered with alcoholic beverages but it could be anything.
It's not only alcohol that goes in brown paper bags, even the small bags, lol.
Come on citah 😂😂 I thought you guys were all United fans
I find it that in the US, if you look 'innocent', it's much better to carry a beer without the paper bag. With the bag, everyone knows it's alcohol.
You win get a find
Try Conan buys his assistant a new car
Uh...few things:
A- Uber & Lyft ride share however it doesn't have to be what mother described. Options can be but not default.
Jitneys (cars in the hood) might do it.
What's well known are the approved taxis at the train stations when coming from work take taxis to 'group' ride home. It will be group but "based" on where first person is each person. First person sets the area & the others who approach are the ones are going in that direction. It doesn't take an hour. Being we live blocks from each other it takes possibly 10 minutes.
B - Open Container Law
The open container law applies to all occupants of the motor vehicle, including the driver and all passengers. The open container law does not apply to persons in the passenger area of buses, taxis, limousines, and other “for hire” vehicles, or in the living quarters of a house coach or house trailer.
Each state has regulations of public alcohol consumption.
The United States has all sorts of blue laws about the purchase of alcoholic beverages, from states where you can't buy liquor on Sundays to regulations on grocery stores selling more than beer and wine. But there are also laws about alcohol consumption, especially if you're interested in public consumption.
Alcohol Public Consumption
-Including sidewalks, parks, stadiums, and beaches
-- Considered illegal in most jurisdictions in the U.S. Penalties range from hundreds of dollars in fines to jail time in some locales. Therefore, when you find a state with open container laws, treat it with respect.
But there are confusing delineations such as at an outside cafes, inside baseball & football stadiums but can't bring it in. Can buy the beer once inside the stadium if of legal age. Outside stadium parked & grilling OK. BUT it's where NOT allowed to drink that's the problem. Brown bag doesn't stop getting arrested. It simply conceals the beverage.
Most serious issue is driving & drinking.
If driver is of legal age and not driving still major issue. Technically if have an open container of alcohol in any form while have passengers drinking open container mean shouldn't be having beer or alcohol is arrestable. I know as a rented chauffeur in a stretch with a separated divider I'm okay, if in a black car no divider can't.
Ab - Different states have rules about having alcohol in convenience stores as well as hours can sell. CT has blue laws & can sell 24hrs. Laws may have changed.
Examples:
Arizona
Public drinking of alcoholic beverages is prohibited statewide and considered a Class 2 misdemeanor.
California
Public consumption is only permitted in a few select locales, including the city of Sonoma and a number of state beaches such as Carmel Beach, Paradise Cove in Malibu, and Kehoe Beach in Point Reyes.
Connecticut
There is no statewide ban, but public consumption of alcoholic beverages is illegal in most or all districts. However, while drivers cannot drink while operating a vehicle, any passengers aged 21 or up can sip in the back seat.
Florida
In the state of Florida, it is generally illegal to consume alcohol in public. However, the city of Tampa allows up to two drinks in plastic containers per person on the Tampa Riverwalk as long as they are purchased from a licensed facility between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1 a.m.
Illinois
There is no statewide ban, but public consumption is illegal in most or all districts. However, in Illinois there is no penalty for public drunkenness, unlike most other states.
Massachusetts
There is no statewide ban, but public consumption of alcohol is illegal in most or all districts. In fact, in Massachusetts, even happy hours are illegal.
New Jersey
There is no statewide ban, but public consumption is illegal in most or all districts. However, a 2022 state law allowed for communities to individually designate outdoor areas for consuming alcohol. So far, many shore towns have gotten on board: You can now drink in public in Cape May, Atlantic City, and North Wildwood--As long as it's during the summer season.
New York
There is no statewide ban, but public drinking is illegal in most or all districts. For example, in New York City, you're only supposed to drink outdoors if it's part of a permitted block party.
Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania does not have a law against public possession of consumption of alcohol. While it is illegal in many places, you can drink in public parks (and other public spaces) in Erie.
Sophie is 🔥 cute. My ❤❤
In he US there are laws against having an open container of alcohol so if they catch you you dont' get arrested you just get a monetary fine. Note: it's very illegal to have an open container of alcohol in a car like they are. That can get you a heavy fine, a dui i test, and fines. The open container thing is something you normally encounter if you're drawing attention to yourself. There are a few exceptions like certain street fests where you're allowed to have beer openly. Like there was one in Chicago called Taste of Chicago and everybody had open containers of alcohol because they were selling them and it was part of the event. But if the following week with no event you were in the same spot and walked by a cop and started chugging a beer they'd stop you, make you pour it out, and write you a ticket unless they had better shit to do and made you pour it out but let you go.
Fun fact. It’s not illegal to have an open container in a car in every state. For example in CT passengers can drink in the car
Anthony looks more like Abdul.
I've _never_ heard of any taxi service picking up other people after they already have a passenger, unless the passenger specifically gives them a second, third, etc, address to stop by to pick up someone they know to ride together. I could order an Uber to pick up my cousin and then have it bring her over to pick me up so we can travel together, but there's no random strangers getting in after I've made arrangements on the app, myself. If someone else got into my account for a ride with me....😯
The drivers can't put someone's trip on hold to pick up others at his or her convenience. Also, how would the fare be calculated through the app/credit card?
I did a quick search online to see if I could find anything about it, and I didn't see anything about it for the US, but one person on a travel rating site, said in Athens, Greece, a taxi driver had a passenger and stopped for an elderly lady to let her in, too. People wanted to know if this was common and were told that it depends on the driver as he may have given her the ride because they were going to the same location and she paid her own fare, but that it was still rude of him to pick her up unless the first passenger agreed.
A couple of people said that _some_ taxi drivers will take advantage of foreigners by telling them that picking up people along the way is normal. They're just causing an inconvenience and making more money in a shorter amount of time.
This used to be very common in smaller towns in the US. The dispatcher would quote a charge for the destination with a shared ride and a charge for a solo ride(usually much higher).
It’s like Uber
That's not how Uber or Lyft works. Its possible that driver was trying to save gas by picking up multiple people going to the same area. Normally, its pick up one party, dropping off at requested destination, then going on to the next party.
Where I live that would never happen with either company. You select your choice of rides. A driver cannot stop to pick up other people to save gas or any other reason unless you select a ''share ride'' option on the app. I have taken hundreds of rides through the years for business purposes with both companies. not one was a shared ride. AND, both companies stopped offering shared rides during the pandemic. Looks like Uber has reinstated ride sharing but Lift has not.
A Swisher Sweet is a cheap cigar that could be bought for 99 cents for a pack of four. Ice wanted them because they would be hollowed out of the tobacco and filled with weed instead.
You can ride share with strangers, i think its called carpool? Its cheaper but not worth it imo.
Uber and Lyft are the same thing just different apps. Lyft usually has more sketchy people working for them though. To the point that a local guy was murdered by a Lyft driver in one of the most rural townships in the area.
while it is illegal it also depends on where you live. Bigger cities I imagine deal with it more than places like where I live. less than 500 people and unless your falling into things and being a drunk then 9 times out of 10 the police here will either give you a ride home . Small town in California. Love the channel and the videos keep them coming please
Anyone else getting a massive echo during Conan video?
