    If the community doesn't do this, I might have to modify mine. I ordered one, and it's arriving next month. I want to create large signs and art but don't want the extreme height. Your idea of a folding cart on wheels is excellent.

      Thanks, if I could justify the cost & they were in stock I would order one and get out my chop saw & Mig welder. I have so many other FDM project priorities first though. It may be a while

      Without any accurate CAD reference, this would be difficult to develop further personally ATM

    Actually mold makers can utilize its existing build volume. I think its more of a problem of using desktop 3DP extruder instead of implementing pellet extruders or high flow hotend with 2.85.

    Spot on. The giga is a flawed product (hardware wise) that does not have a proper target audience.

      @boothybuilds  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The only target audience seems to be YT influencers with a lot of spare filament lying around!

    I bought one, just got my shipping number. This is for personal use to make props for amateur theatre, costume pieces for cosplayers (including myself) and create larger (even life-size) figurines. Nothing that requires real build strength but rather as little post-print processing and assembling as possible. The ability to print a stage crown in one print instead of 5 (four quadrants and a top piece) is, to me, worth it. Once it's in place, the unit's height will not bother me.

    Great breakdown and concept, I'd definitely like to see a mod like this in reality. Cheers

      Thanks Tommy. Strangely I do have enough space for one, but if I ever get hold of an Orangestorm, the first thing I will do is get the Chop saw & Mig welder out!

    Alibaba is filled with 3D printers like the one you're suggesting, it's used to make LED signs.

    I ordered one. Reasons for it are, molds. Both for vacuum forming and fiberglass/carbon fiber. I can make gauge clusters for automotive. And prototype dies for a small sheet metal break.

    I’ve been dying for printers like this. If I could get a p1p with a z height of like 100mm and be able to basically stack them like a server rack I’d be in heaven. I generally don’t print very tall things. Even more so with a large format machine. A 500x500x200 would be incredible.

    My college foolishly bought a massive Modix printer and we have run into exactly the same issue. Why should i use obscene amounts of plastic on a really slow printer when I can just buy 10 smaller, faster ones and run everything in chunks to be glued later. Thing collects dust in the corner and wastes space that could be better used on other stuff.

    • @boothybuilds

      It would make a huge filament dryer or filament storage space :)

    I’m kinda excited about it as a taxidermist. This has the ability to print full size manikins for our industry. Each one could be custom sized for a good fit with the skin . Yeah if it works I have a use for it !

    I came to a similar conclusion as you and started planning out a voron in the same vein that was 700x350 (2x1 350mm voron plates) as opposed to 800x800 (2x2 400mm elegoo neptune max plates)
    I've had many prop and product design ideas that could have been better served with a printer extended one axis rather than two or three, and preferably on the horizontal rather than vertical plane

    I can't say I disagree; although personally I would say the application for architecture and the like is an issue of refinement although I will say in my own designs I have found myself increasingly splitting components and orientating them based of where I need strength due to the losses in z plane. I would be looking at the creality cr 30 as potential foundation for my next printer for everyday experimenting .
    Personally I do think because of the layer weakness it doesn't really make sense to scale a printer up in all axis's squarely

    • @boothybuilds
      @boothybuilds  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree, in hindsight I probably could have explained the Client side formal presentation process from my experience a little better but really wanted to focus on the Orangestorm rather than my previous experience. I have since produced an addendum video (link in the description)showing a time comparison of printing the model in one piece or in separate parts. Half the time, half the cost, half the filament usage. There are probably much better examples but thought it more relevant to the one Elegoo chose in their promotion. I think this product is a very positive move, just needs more refinement, probably like my video!

    OMG you are so wrong on so many levels. You do realize that the operator doesn't need to watch the print all the time, they can work at other things while it's printing. As a props and set designer and fabricator we print large things all the time. We even then put them in a 5 axis mill to do further work.

  • @Twizington

    Absolutely stay away from these huge printers, I developed a very popular 500mm printer. The idea seems cool, but to use that size, it costs too much. Also temps changing across the plate cause all sorts of trouble. I could go on and on. It’s not worth it. If you aren’t buying Bambu if you can afford it, you’re a silly 🪿

    • @packapunchburger
      @packapunchburger 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Forgive my ignorance, but aren't bambu printers locked down hardware wise and I did hear a while back of people being locked out of their accounts?
      I mean imo if something is cheap because they have a monopoly on who can repair it I don't want to get comfortable using that as my go to printer.
      I could be wrong but again if I even have to ask whether I can get parts for something that isn't a flagship model and I'm not looking for that in a printer why would I even consider it for that use case?

    • @Twizington
      @Twizington 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@packapunchburger I haven’t heard of that, not saying it didn’t happen though.
      But I would say you’re taking a far extreme circumstance and taking that as standard.
      It’s very reminiscent of the Apple/ Android argument. Bambu is like Apple in the way of you’re going to pay for it, but it is known for just working with little to no hassle on the end user side. It’s beautiful, genius construction, and works like a dream.
      I say this being a guy who has a print farm of sorts, I develop printers and have a business that relies on printers. Once you get a Bambu, you’ll understand. It’s just a better/ quicker/ experience with no hassle. And I held out for a long time thinking it was silly to buy a bambu. I would have been the guy arguing against it, until I got one. I’d say get one. And have a backup in case some of those things you mention happen.

    • @boothybuilds
      @boothybuilds  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have two Bambu printers, a X1 Carbon & a P1S both with AMS. Of the 12 FDM printers, including 3 Vorons, I own, they are best by miles in every way from seamless control to the best quality and fastest prints IMO. Yes there is some critism but a lot of this is by well meaning community based folks that are concerned about closed systems. At the end of the day Bambu Labs are just like a lot of folks trying to retain a living by protecting their IP which they clearly have spent a lot of money on. There is room for both community and commercial delivery in our maker space I think. There is also the concern regards cloud based security but I personally would be much more worried about social media app liabilities than someone getting hold of my print profiles any day.

      @Twizington well i did look into it a little bit more and it's not as bad as I heard in regards to repairs.
      Since I'm here anyway, have you ever used volcano nozzles and are they worth experimenting with? Obviously rn i am using a standard mk8 .4mm nozzle on a q5 , which i believe uses an almost identical hotend to an ender 3.
